Central Otago - like Dunedin?
-
More pics - sorry if it's too many

This is Franz Joseph Glacier - I walked the length of the river bed and quit - Steve went on to climb up to it.

This is the Fox Glacier - both glaciers are on the west coast which was more to my liking.

-
Last few :

This is the golf course Steve loves. It's called Jack's Point and is a short drive out of Queenstown - Very expensive to play but I went in the buggy with him and enjoyed ball spotting for him - it over looks lake Wakitipu. The mountains in the background are called the Remarkables.

That's it - I tried to pick the best - I did take over 450 pics and I'm sure you don't want to see them all.
Kam - central Otago was inland from Dunedin - old gold minig area.
-
Gasp - never too mamy, Suzie. What a feast for the eyes.
Off to see about that sad waste of electricity, Blue....ETA: Groan!
-
I did love it Athena, once we got to greener areas. The second last one was Doubtful Sound right near the bottom of the west coast - WOW - it is 10 times the size of Milford Sound which seems to be the most popular. My cousin recommended doing Doubtful. The only bad thing was Steve got eaten alive by sand flies and is still scratching

-
Suzieq, your pictures are simply stunning. What beautiful and varied landscapes!

Hi Mods - when I saw you'd posted, I thought you were going to growl at me for upsetting your servers

Thankyou - it was a great trip.

I'm with Athena.....breath-taking beauty. Well, maybe not so much the bike trail. Good thing --- who could ride there and 'look' around much. Sand fleas....are they the little fun guys some of us might call chiggers.

Jackie - I've always called them midges - pronounced midgees. It seems he reacts worse than I do. I'm sure I got bitten but wasn't itchy.
You're right - it was dangerous to look as you were riding as the bike would swerve and slip in the gravel. I still can't believe we paid to be tortured. One lady, who did no prep actually managed the whole thing. I did see other people travelling with a different company who had wide sprung seats and mountain bike tyres - ours were not suitable IMHO. The bike I got for the winery ride had a lovely sprung seat.
-
Suzie -- I have always called them chiggers, but others here call them no-see-ums. Either way, they can cause a lot of distress.

Just saw this one on facebook. Had to share.

Suzie, your pics are wonderful! Can't get enough of them. NZ is one of the places I definitely want to visit.

Wow, I feel like I've been traveling this weekend. New Zealand is beautiful. Suzie. Thanks for the pictures. Sounds like a wonderful vacation (except for the bike ride).
Linda, I'm envying your honeymoon. Thanks for sharing some of your travel with us. How nice to start our your marriage in such a special way. Welcome home!
Athena, I've read about your doctor. Was shocked to hear you were one of his patients. I admire your attitude .... You are quite a gal! I know many Christians who would not be so forgiving.
I loved the brain teasers .... Not going to say how I did ... LOL!
Lots going on here, almost too much to comment on. I enjoy catching up with you all. You entertain and educate me and I appreciate having like-minded on line friends.
Have a great weekend, everyone! -
Had a lovely nap - washing still going on, I gave in and put things in the dryer as the rain is not going away. Not looking forward to work tomorrow, it will be interesting going back.
I did read back over many pages - good to see Lewing home and happy and GG house sale go through and Alexandria MIL doing OK. I did notice Blue say "Where's susie" at one stage - I did try and post a couple of times but I gave up on the stupid little netbook I took - too slow and most places wanted money for wifi. Next time I'll get myself an IPad or something that actually works.

I left this elsewhere a short while ago, but think it is such a good part of what you gals have going on here, and why it is so pleasant to come here:
"A keen sense of humor helps us to overlook the unbecoming, understand the unconventional, tolerated the unpleasant, overcome the unexpected, and outlast the unbearable."
Billy Graham

Tom Brokaw put it very succinctly on MTP this morning. Comes too, much ado about nothing. Said that reporters routinelyhave a 'dressing' down as it were from the White House and most are far worse than Bob Woodward's even approaches and that way too much time is being given it.
So as someone here said.....Woodward was feeling the lack of some strokes and knew just how far to go to get some. As Brokaw said....shame on him as we have other things far more deserving of the attention.
Sun out today....thank goodness. I have not much "cried" about it here, but too many gray days in a row does not bring out the best in me. I need sun if I am to bloom at all, in any way. Glad to see it and generally lifts my spirits way up high and make me eager to change something for the better.
Just a brief thought here.........has anyone heard that Romney will run again in 20016. Is that partly what today's' interview is for and is to kick off. Really.....told Dh, the only thing I would think is that having watched our great Pres. get another resounding win....perhaps the Repugs think they know how it is done. I certainly think out of those who 'could' perhaps vie for the ticket, most have stepped neck deep in unmentionables already but I think it is far too early to get to that. I feel like they need to get 2014 out of the way and find out who and what is standing at that time.

To some (not on this thread) I say.........

OMG!!! My sister from Boston dropped in to see my mom yesterday. First of all, she calls when she is 2 hours away. She always does that even when I ask her to just let us know when she knows when they will be heading north. We had to miss an annual party at the last minute.
Anyways, the talk turns to politics. Here are just a couple of her 'thoughts.'
"The banks had nothing to do with the economic collapse in the USA. If the gov't would leave big business alone everything would be fine."
"The only reason Obama hasn't been assissinated is because no one wants Biden to take over as president."
"We are hoping Romney will run again. He would be a great president."
"We absolutely hate Obama. He is evil."
"The Bush wars did not cost the tax payer anything. They came from a different fund set aside for war time."
And if you guessed that they are part of the 1%, you are right. They constantly travel but hardly ever visit their parents here. Usually once every 2-5 years. And they have never even offered a dime to help with my parents care, even knowing that we are still paying off my late father's debt incurred while dementia set in.
Sorry, my rant for today!! Thanks for listening.

-
Blue, once again such cuties!
Pip, there always seems to be (at least) one in otherwise rational families. I've got them.

Now, here's my thought for the day:

-
Pip ... maybe you should have gone to the party instead? The banks and markets were doing nothing wrong and the wars funded themselves out of a magical pot of fairy dust. Self serving delusions. Why am I not surprised that she isn't willing to even support or assist her own mother.
-
Wish me luck for my first day back at work - I want to go on holiday again already.
