Another day, another pope.....its about time. Hope some modernization does come. No one can afford to protect criminals.Jackie

This was hilarious! Catch it today on Comedy Central if you missed it last night:
Jon Stewart on Monday dedicated “The Daily Show” to Pope Benedict’s resignation, in “Holy Quit! How’s It Going With That Popey Changey Thing?”
“Popes can do that?” Stewart said of the Pope’s resignation. “I assumed the papacy was a lifetime commitment, like being in the mob or a correspondent on ‘60 Minutes.’”

I NEED the blue one! It would be the perfect accessory to my "new" 1951 Packard Ultramatic (museum condition, 40,000 miles, deep Packard blue). Now I need to find a hat, purse, and shoes to complete the look.
-
You have a 1951 Packard??? Oh you lucky dog. Show us a picture!!!
-
I remember when he was made pope. We had the discussion then that he was only meant to be interim...they did not want him to be a long serving pope. I don't think this 'decision' had as much to do with what he wanted...all politically calculated.
JMHOMuch like our new Ontario premier, Kathleen Wynne.....

Will watch when I get home Blue.
I love the fuschia dress too. And the color of the blue is exquisite. I don't think Carolina Herrera gets enough credit for what a spectacular draper she is - as good as the great (late) Halston himself, IMO. It takes mastery to have that effortless spread of fabric actually touch a woman's body in just the right places. She doesn't have the range with fabric that other designers do, but, boy, she knows how to work with what she uses.
I found myself agreeing with Cathy Horyn (the NYT fashion critic) on another collection in New York Fashion week - Phillip Lim, another Chinese designer and the son of a seamstress. Horyn is right - he was a breath of fresh air with his casual tailoring and street clothes. Here are some looks I liked and would buy:
I LOVE the boots.
-
I'm confused. I thought Fashion Week was Spring collections. These all look like Fall and Winter.
Mary
-
Athena, liked the Lim clothes, but before I had scrolled down to your comment, I was exclaiming to myself, "I LOVE the boots!" then I saw your comment, lol. I love how they are sexy but elegant, instead of slutty.
-
Alexandria, the most I would do with the red Herrera dress is adorn it with the right bracelet and earrings (no necklace, of course). The simplicity is part of the elegance.
-
Also seeking photos of....Scuttlers's Packard - how can we NOT see that?! Picture please.
I'd also like to see Franz, but mostly, E's new truck (call him "Mickey" or "Butch" - or "Medicare" - that will make him a "real" nasty bastard), and her new farm.
-
Agreed, Momine.
Mary: Fashion collections are always presented waaaaayyy before the actual season, so this New York Fashion Week is presenting Fall/Winter for 2013-2014. The Spring/Summer ones were presented last year. In fact, Chanel had its pre-Fall collection out in about November. The big European houses, like Chanel and Dior, are always very early, partly because they have five or six collections per year. Menswear happens even earlier.
In Paris, where there is haute couture in addition to the Pret-a-Porter shows you have two seasons for couture and two for ready-to-wear. Then you have resort or cruise collections, which are for travel/summer-y and you have pre-Fall. Each of these occasions demands a "fashion week" in Pairs. New York only has two (we don't got us no couture in Yankee-land) fashion weeks - in February and in September. Milan also has its seasons, but generally only Paris shows couture. If you are a non French house and you do couture, you show in Paris. Versace has Atelier Versace and Armani has Armani Prive, and both do their couture shows there and the rest at home, as far as I know (though there may be exceptions).

awwwwweeee!

I have always had an interest in fashion but I find it even more appealing post cancer. We spend so much time suffering over what our bodies do and become, thinking of how much pain they put us and our loved ones through because of ill health that it is wonderful to realize that we still have a temple that can accommodate beauty - even with a few natural breasts and/or screws missing....:-)
I am going to a day spa this weekend to have a long, intense facial and an equally detailed massage.
All that to seguey into the "ugly" world of politics.
Ted Nugent is coming to tonight's State of the Union speech, by invitation from a Republican congressman.
I hope to see lots of little boys and girls next to Michelle who can stand up for their brothers and sisters who died in Newtown. I hope to hear strong words from Obama on guns, even at the risk of having some lowlife shout something like "you lie."

Goats, goats and more goats.............

One more for the road............

-
Athena, love the fashion show!
Don't forget the video!
-
Guess who?

-
cheesy gtos in drag?
Medicare?
-
Well whoever it is, IT is better than anyone that would call their President a POS.
-
It reminds me of Joe Walsh, former Illinois R congressman who voters had the good sense to kick to the curb. You know -- the deadbeat dad who now is asking the court to release him from his child support obligations because he is unemployed. Hmmm. He played, now he pays. Or -- he made them, now he supports them. Isn't that the right way?
Not much to contribute on the fashion front - the Talbots and the Orvis catalogs are my speed.
Rough couple days at work -- my left eye has finally stopped twitching (not kidding). June 1 cannot come fast enough!
Had my 6-monthly checkup with my plastic surgeon - 18 months post-DIEP. He pronounced himself thrilled and me healthy. I will see him in a year. I don't object - since I no longer get mammos, I am happy to have extra observation.
L -
HL - glad you got the all clear on the diep front! Sorry about work - arghhhh!
Ok, for us peanut gallery dwellers --and any would-be "you lie" liars out there-- here is what we can expect tonight:
"WASHINGTON — President Obama will challenge a divided Congress on Tuesday night to embrace a second-term agenda that includes new government investments, limits on guns, a revamped immigration system and a plan to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan, White House officials said.
Mr. Obama’s first State of the Union address since winning re-election will focus on new initiatives to kick-start the economy for middle-class Americans, aides said. The president will propose government action in education, manufacturing, infrastructure and clean energy.
“It is our unfinished task to make sure that this government works on behalf of the many, and not just the few,” Mr. Obama will say, according to brief excerpts that the White House released Tuesday evening. “That it encourages free enterprise, rewards individual initiative and opens the doors of opportunity to every child across this great nation of ours.”
-
Waving hi and on to some work. Hope you all had a good day.
Jackie
who is loving the pictures.
-
Looking forward to President Obama's state of the union address tonight. Thanks for the NYT link, Athena.

Forgot to say....I think Mr. Nugent is a very scary person. JMO, but I think his mental faculties went out to lunch and never came back. I guess it is a free country, but I really think that is pushing the envelope to invite some one with his lack of moral stature. I'd like to think the Republicans could be above that. Shameful>

From the Daily Beast:
"Republicans are spending a lot of time rebranding themselves as a more inclusive party. So will the House GOP finally vote to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act?.......
........Slogging toward compromise, even imperfect compromise, is fundamentally what Congress is paid to do, no matter how abhorrent many current members find the concept. The question now is what price House Republicans—and their leaders—are willing to pay for digging in their heels and demanding to have their own way.
The cost could be steep. Last time I checked, women made up more than half the electorate. A political party that so easily allows itself to get painted as hating on the ladies is a party on the road to extinction."

Regarding the news that Ted Nugent will be at the State of the Union address......wow, just wow!
"Ted Nugent drew criticism—and the attention of the Secret Service—after making violent comments about President Obama at the NRA conference in St. Louis. But this is not the first time he has uttered controversial words. Watch Ted Nugent’s most bizarre rants."
