Well POP, that does sound like fun actually.  I read somewhere that you are supposed to look down when they take the license picture.  Tried it, I think it worked well once.  You and your mom should google  How to Look Good in your Drivers License Pictures.  Can you take a repic?

Finally got back into dancing last night. Ran into a guy I had seen there a while back. Him: Remember me? Me: Let's see...the last time I saw you you practically chased me to my car and threw your phone number inside! Nope..no recollection. (I do remember at the time quickly telling him I was terminally ill and not interested). So I danced with him once last night and he says, "How are you doing?" But before even waiting for a response he pulls up his sleeve to reveal an arm brace telling me HE has "tennis elbow"! Me: If you're going to try to one up me in the physical ailments department at least tell me you have high blood pressure or something...diabetes even ??! Really! I guess he was trying to find some commonality...but I was NOT impressed with his "boo boo"!

Today was an incredibly beautiful sunny Fall day with all the leaf colors at their peak...breathtaking! Went to meet some friends to take in a parade..then sat at an outdoor cafe for horsdeuvres. Great company..lots of fun.

Got home just in time to go out and meet up with some early stagers celebrating Pinktober!

    Early stagers are people too.....:)

Jill,  Sounds like he is sweet on you.  Poor guy, he was trying  :)

Today I'm going to Chicago to see both my daughters.  Pretty exciting. My youngest is flying in to be part of a promotion for her company.  She's not working today. So my oldest, her little ones and I are going downtown to spend the afternoon having some fun.  It should be delightful.

This morning, I'm taking my walk and then putting away my flowerpots.  So sad to put away flower pots, isn't it?  But the sun is supposed to be out and the day will be perfect.  Hope everyone enjoys it.

What a pretty day to be in Chicago Soleil! I usually make it up there once or twice per year, and haven't been there all year yet! Maybe next year.... When I saw your post re: your flowerpots, it went through my mind, I wonder where she'll be when she puts those flower pots back out next year? I envisioned you putting them outside your little sunny yellow trailer in California in the spring, and never needing to put them away again as you'll always have nice weather in California! Enjoy your kids and the day!

    Surfdreams,

How did you know it was yellow? We do think alike  :)

I had such a beautiful day today.  Hope everyone else did too.

Soleil - I just thought that if your little trailer wasn't sunshine yellow before, you should paint it that color to match your disposition. Glad your day was great! ;-)

    I love you surfdreams!

My day was beautiful.  I'm still a bit wobbly from side effects but I made it through the Water Tower.  I used to work there when my daughters were very small. We had to check out the old DB Kaplans site, Watertower finally rented it out.  It was on the 7th floor.   Then of course, we went to American Girl Store, Lego Store, 50 million shoe stores( my daughters are fashionistas) and we had a great dinner at the food court.  We also managed to walk outside a bit.  It was a beautiful day.

I do have my eye on this cute little yellow trailer.  Just not sure what to do because of  my situation. I don't want my daughters to deal with any sort of mess at the end.  Then again, I could have a couple years and I love a garden.  So, we'll see.

Now getting ready for next weekend.  Its the annual trick or treat Sunday here.  My daughter brings the little ones up and out we go downtown. Everyone dresses up here.  Its alot of fun..  This year, I am attempting to make an apple pie for us to have when we return .  I haven't made one in about 20 years, but its my daughter's favorite so I want to give it a shot.  My neighbor has really done her house up.  Crazy!  She's a widow, a bit older, kind of surprising that she is Halloween Crazy.  I put some big spiders out , but mine sure looks lame compared to her. I might be forced to go to Walmart and pick up some halloween lights, just drape a few in the bush  :)  Its going to be an awsome day!

Gosh, I haven't been on this thread for a while. I've enjoyed catching up. Chele, OMG, what a wonderful gift for your niece. I'm sure she's hooked for life! Nancy, great pictures, and all of you, such fun you are having and planning. Tina, Chincoteague is one of my favorite places in all the world. When I was teaching we bought a condo there and I spent most of my summers there, but now that I'm retired we have to rent it out in the summer so I don't get there as often. We love to walk the nature tours on Assateague Island and of course spending Pony Week there was always fun. I love the slow pace of life there. It's like being back in the 50's. I just got back from 10 days visiting family in Florida. Also had time to squeeze in some visits with old college friends and attended my sister's 45th h.s. reunion with her. We share a lot of friends from the past since we're only one year apart. I'm leaving Thursday to go to Boston with one of my close friends. Her brother and his wife live there so we're staying with them and doing the whole tourist thing. It's a city I've always wanted to visit. I love seeing new places but doing them with good friends or family makes it all more special!

    Glenna,

Hope you enjoy your time here in Boston. We are having some oddly warm weather right now, so it will be fun to walk the city. If you need suggestions as to wear to go [give me an interest] or what restaurants are worth the calories, send me a PM.

Tomorrow is going to be 75 and sunny here.  Can't wait.  I am playing hookey from work ( its easy to do when you are the boss).  I'm spending close to  the entire day in my yard.  Taking a few walks and having lunch with a sweet friend.  I'm so excited about tomorrow I could burst with joy.

75 and sunny is a rare commodity here this time of year.

Glenna, Boston is a great town for tourists. I've visited several times and love the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, not to mention the Museum of Fine Ahhhhts, walking the Freedom Trail, seeing the historic sites, shopping on Newbury Street, and much more. If the weather is fine, so much the better. We even took a narrated boat ride around the harbor, but it may be off-season now. Whatever you choose to do, you're sure to enjoy it!

Now that sounds like the perfect day! I will be at a client's office. They want me onsite during inventory, just in case. Nice paycheck for the month! Then I can have fun.

    Susan and Tina,

Since I'll be with a friend and visiting with her brother and his wife, I'm sort of "along for the ride". We are doing the Freedom Trail on Friday, the USS Constitution and Museum and possibly Isabel Steward Gardner Museum. Will be having dinner in the Italian North End. Any recommendations there? They didn't mention a particular restaurant. Saturday they mentioned Walden Pond or Fruidlands. Sunday we are attending a winemaking class and tasting. Not sure where that is. Then we leave on Monday morning. Sounds like a full weekend for someone struggling with hand and foot syndrome ..... LOL! I'm excited about seeing some fall foliage and being in a city I've never visited. Every day is a gift, every new city is a gift, spending time with a good friend is priceless!

    Glenna,

That is a full weekend! I don't eat often in the North End, but there are a few favorites. The original Pizzeria Regina's, nebo, Neptune [if you like fish], and Mamma Maria [I think it is called.] I bet they have a place selected though and you will enjoy whereever they take you. I will hope that our leaves hold on long enough for you to see them.

    Enjoy!

It's so lovely to read about the places you go to. WISH, WISH I could got to the States again, there are so many places there that I love. Had a thought yesterday, how nice it would be to be in Newport, Rhode Island for Halloween, and Chicago for the German Christmas Market, and sit on a warm evening drinking cocktails at the Coronado Hotel in San Diego where they filmed "Some like it Hot" listening to live music (my late husband and I did this on our last trip abroad together before he got cancer and died). But I guess I've been lucky enough to experience all these things, and one must look forward and create a future for oneself, even against the odds. So I'm making plans for the new year. Perhaps a visit to Stockholm, or back to Florence. Well, a girl can dream!

Lemonsoda, I am dreaming of a trip with a tour group in Sept. 2013 to visit England, Scotland, and Wales.  I have wanted to visit England for years.  And when I saw this trip advertised, and being led by a couple I know, I decided that I had to go.

My oncologist says she wishes I was going this year, because I am feeling pretty good and the cancer seems to be stable.  I guess it does seem crazy to wait until next fall.

But I am praying that I will be at a good place in my treatment then and will feel strong enough.

Lemonsoda, You don't have to just dream it.  You need to do it.  At least do the trips near you.

Holdontohope, While I understand what your onc is saying, I think you need to feel hopeful.  Stable can last for years, right?  So, you will have so much fun on that tour.  Its going to be great!

Suggestions wanted!  In an effort to "grab for all the gusto I can get" (vintage beer advertising slogan) while I feel well and strong, I am making a list of all sorts of possible trips, large and small, that I can take in between monthly treatments. For instance, we are going to Santa Fe in early December for a week. We've been there before, but this time are staying in our own "casita" that we won in a charity auction.

Once upon a time I loved winter, but I am less enamored as years go by. The days are too short and too gray. I don't like sitting on beaches and am not drawn to tropical islands, but I would like to visit somewhere warm and bright and interesting when winter starts depressing my spirits--usually around February. We appreciate the countryside, and are happy to motor through it, but prefer to spend time in cities with their museums, historical sites, theater, music venues and restaurants. We love nature, but are not physical adventurers at this point. We "did" Ft. Lauderdale and Key West last year.

That all said, I don't think we can venture too far afield from the U.S. I'd welcome your ideas. Thanks!

    Tina,

What a great idea! I have suggestions, but as I reflect, I think an idea is more useful.  I would create a list of every destination that you can get to from your home airport with NO stops. Short vacations and switching flights are not a good combination.

Places: San Juan, PR in the old city, Santa Fe, New Orleans, for the Southern tier. Boston [of course!] when it gets warmer. [I have to plug Boston; it is in my DNA.]

Tina: I have always wanted to rent a houseboat and cruise the canal systems in upstate New York and the Finger Lakes region - but http://www.houseboating.org/ has rentals all over the country.

Fun! Fly into Memphis, TN and hang out on Beale Street for the best blues and bbq. Tour Elvis' digs if you'd like. Go to the Peabody Hotel and watch the famous ducks take the red carpet walk to the fountain in the lobby. Check out the museums and then rent a car and head south to Clarksdale, Mississippi and spend some time in Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero Blues Club. Order some Soul/Southern food and enjoy some great music. Head further south. In February/March, Spring is in full bloom in this area. Head to Vicksburg - tons of history and tours asthis was a Civil War Battle area. Head further south and take in Natchez, Mississippi's Spring Pilgramage tour where you can tour lots of antebellum mansions hosted by characters in period costume. Enjoy a Mint Julep in the backyard of one of these fine old homes (Pure bourbon whiskey with a mint leaf floating in it - Whew!). Take the last leg south to the Big Easy - New Orleans. Eat beignets and drink chickory coffee at Cafe DuMonde near the open air market on the waterfront. Tons of places to see and things to do - and the weather at that time of year is usually lovely. Also saw that there's a river boat tour from N.O to Memphis at Rivercruise.com

Surfdreams, you left out Key West!

So, join the sunset celebration in Key West.  Take lots of pictures.  Maybe have a margarita at the open air bar..  Dance salsa in the street around the corner from Mallory Square and watch the sun come up at the southernmost point.

So, you have that add that to your amazing description of traveling somehowSealed

    Glenna,

A little grey today, but if there is no rain, you can walk the freedom trail. Ah yes, Sandy....well, let's hope that you don't get stuck here for extra days. We have taken in the outdoor furniture and a few things we had stored on the porch. Wind is in the forecast. My house is on the first hill off the ocean, so we get hit pretty badly.

I read the hurricane is working its way up the east coase. Sorry, you guys!

We're enjoying cool sunny fall weather here.  Tomorrow is our town's Halloween.  I'm attempting to bake an apple pie for my oldest daughter and her husband.  Scary because I haven't done a thing like this in about 20 years.  I'm thinking I may make a nutbread too, just in case.  We're taking her little ones downtown for trick or treat, then returning here for our pie.  I'm excited!

Last year, i wore a clown costume which terrified my 5 year old grandaughter. She told me I could wear it this year.  She's braver ....but i'm kind of thinking a witch would be easy and fun.

There are a few things I'll miss about the midwest, fall days like these are among them.

Lanagraves - I'm not from Mississippi. Illinois. But I've visited your beautiful state a number of times. Years ago, my sister and I watched the North & South mini-series and decided to find and tour all of the major sites from the movie. Drove the Natchez trace and did the pilgramage tour. Took the backroads down to New Orleans. Still one of my favorite all time trips. You see so much when you stray off the interstates. We did find all of the major mansions and scenes from the movie, but couldn't find the last one - I think it was David Carradine's abode - the evil guy. Then it just jumped out at us in the middle of nowhere on that little country highway on the way to Louisiana. There's so many great places to go to in the country. Just wish I had the time, the money and the energy. Would love love love to go to Boston and NYC and the New England states (although I don't envy you New Englanders during the Frankenstorm that's coming).  My daughter is still in school, so it's hard to fit a lot of trips in around the school schedule.

That mini series is one of my all time favorites.  Patrick Swayze at his best, I think.  The scene in the church takes my breath away.  Thats the scene where he finds her and they make love.

After my liver surgery I was stuck on the couch.  Dug that scene out of you tube and watched it over and over.  I've always been in love withh Patrick Swayze....Sigh.
