I've been watching the coverage of the storm and cannot believe the destruction I'm seeing. Yes, I was definitely lucky .... Two days was nothing and I was having a good time with friends. My heart goes out to those in New York and New Jersey who have lost so much!

Soleil: I LOVE Keith Urban!! CMAs were on at my house too, but I didn't make it very far into them. Fell asleep right after I posted on here...lol.

Geez soleil, I think we have the same taste in men.  First Patrick, now Keith.  Next you"ll be moving in on Matthew McConaughey or Jude Law.

Karen, Jude Law is pretty hot.  I'm forever stuck on Keith, however.

Took a hike with my friends...2.5 hours...It was quite steep in the beginning but I was proud I could do it! Then we had a potluck dinner and fire pit party at the home of one of the hikers. The food was incredible! It was a great day...all very normal...didn't feel like a cancer patient at all!

Spent most of yesterday with other members of my first grade team. Report card/conferences are coming up this week and we have a new report card form that ties in to our on line student info management system. A little wary of bugs and glitches we decided to work together. Not only did we laugh and have fun but the program was surprisingly glitch free. Got all my report cards done, save for the comments, in half the time and enjoyed the company of my colleagues. This may not sound like fun to you, but any teachers out there will appreciate it. Then...I treated myself to an at home kit for gel manicures. I have loved them at the salon but it gets pricey. Had a 20% off coupon at Ulta and bought a starter kit that was highly rated on line. Wow! It was easy to use and my nails look fabulous. Let's see if it lasts as long as the salon gel manis. Not as exciting as foreign travel, or meeting George Clooney but it sure made me happy!

Well, Caryn, that does sound fun.  But who ever mentioned George Clooney....hmmm...I think you like him  :)  I wonder if George Clooney prefers gel nails .

Truly, your day sounded delightful and Jill's sounds ideal.  I'd love to take a hike.  Its so cold here, already cold.  I'm a flop on fun this weekend.  I better get to work on a plan for next week.

It's cold here today too. I was real proud I could do the hike but it was a lot of effort. And today my calf muscles hurt. Next time I think I'll just attend the potluck and walk the mall! I need something else fun to do...even a good read...something a little more stimulating than "Medicare and You".

Jill: Have you read the Fifty Shades books? Definitely more stimulating than Medicare and You.

So my weekend was far too short. Got quite a bit of Christmas shopping done though. And tonight, I'm putting up my Christmas trees - YAY! I love Christmas!

DH and I scored last minute tickets to The Who.  The two surviving band members, Roger Daltry and Pete Townsend put on a great show of Quadophenia and many of their more popular songs.  Got to see Townsend's famous windmill strum.  Old age has mellowed them a bit -- no instruments were destroyed.  Glad that they didn't die before they got old.  Talking 'bout my generation!

Yes, Lana...indeed they are! I read the first one only. I really just read it to see what all the hype was about. I have a friend that wrote an erotic romance that I actually thought was much better. Dangerous Love by Lilou DuPont....if I can put in a plug for her book!

Does almost completely renovating the master bathroom and powder room count as fun? We're getting an estimate (the guy is measuring as I type) and I'm getting excited and scared simultaneously.

Sure that counts as fun. I had so much fun doing my 2 bathrooms last spring. I would love to do some more of my house, just cant afford it right now.

    Tina,

Oh yes. The planning is so much fun! The part when men are tromping through your house doesn't rate as high on the fun-o-meter. The enjoyment of the room post tromping men pops right back up!

I love decorating .  That is true fun for me.  Guess I'm not the only oddball  :)  Still pour over decorator magazines.  I love when they are actually at the doctor's office.

Why do they have copies of 17 magazine and fly fishing in my onc waiting room?  I'm at this classy place and this is what we have to read.  Now, yesterday at the ct, I got my hands on architectural digest and home beautiful!  Heaven....so, I think its the  planning that is the most fun.

stuck in limbo here.  I'm leaving for California in 2 months.  Planning a decorating extravaganza!  I don't think I can afford the big stuff, but paint does a place a world of good.

My husband is a painting contractor, I used to work with him full time, and loved it . Now I just take on small jobs, furn., trim etc..but I do love decorating. My favorite mag. is coastal living, rediculously expensive stuff but such great ideas...

Oh Coastal Living....so beautiful!  I would love to try one of those places for a week  :)  Love so many of the ideas in that mag.  But they seem suited for something a bit fancier than I have.

The thermometer is hovering near 70 this weekend.  This is an odd but wonderful phenomenon for the midwest.  Went for a walk last night.  It was drizzly but awsome.  I'm planning another one today.

We"re on the train returning from several days in New York City. We spent most of our time in mid- and uptown, so saw little effects of Sandy there. Downtown was still recovering and one of the theaters we had tickets to cancelled performances because of a leaky roof and no heat. We had our usual action-packed good time, seeing a new play and new musical, meeting friends to dine, and going to museums and galleries. I am beginning to learn that I can stave off exhaustion if I take taxis instead of walking or using the subway to reach all these destinations when we "do" a city.

So pretty and warm the last few days. Temp was about 72 today. Dogs loved it too. All of them (3) spent the afternoon sunbathing in the yard. I think its time to retire to the Keys or someplace where its warm all year-maybe even Hawaii-I'll just pitch a tent....

I love doing anything outdoors, but sometimes that leads me to "overdo it.". Case in point, went mountain biking with my family this weekend (3 days after a liver biopsy) which was probably really stupidbut the weather was great (it's snowing now), and I didn't know when/if I'd get to do it again. Incision area not too happy today :(

Oh, Chele, that photo reminds me of the wonderful times I had years ago on horseback riding and camping trips in Wyoming's Wind River Range and Colorado's San Juan Mountains. The countryside was so impossibly beautiful and the trips so much the fulfillment of a long-held wish that I teared up just being there. Now I'm doing the same thing in remembering.

Mountain biking mary? Yikes! You're tougher than me!

Thanks Tina. This pic was taken on our ranch here in Kansas.
