Well today was my usual day to babysit my 2 year old grandson and I believe his grandpop is a little jealous because he wanted grandma to play with him instead of grandpop. I told hubby it was only because I do any thing he asked. (today I was a dog complete with a leash around my wrist) But he makes me laugh and thats worth every second of making a fool of myself right? Off to the nc state fair sunday and will spend the night in Raleigh. Never been before, it should be fun..

We just enjoyed three very low-key, inexpensive days in Chincoteague and Assateague Islands, Virginia. It was a perfect time to go. The weather was warm, the tourists were gone, the restaurants were open, and in very small-town fashion, the middle-school football teams were practicing on a field lighted by the headlights of surrounding cars. We took boat tour with an informative guide and saw dolphins, egrets, herons, bald eagles and the famous ponies. There is a stunning new visitors center on Assateague. I regret to add that the mosquitos are still out in full force, but only in the woods.

I am now researching places to go for three to four day trips, using for inspiration the New York Times "36 Hours" book that features 150 cities in the U.S. and Canada. We get to New York and Philly a lot and have explored all over the Northeast, but there are many places we have not been---and we are going to check them out!

I love smacking people with foam objects

At 9 years old I loved the "Misty"/island stories. That would surely be a bucket-list entry for me. All those shorebirds would enter into that list!

How I would love to snuggle all those babies! I just love the napes of their necks. DD is otherwised occupied so little ones for at least a few years. Bwhhaa:(

I visit with my 4 month old granddaughter every week. I curl up and read books on my kindle, I will visit one of my sons and other wonderful family in NY for Thanksgiving, and I spend quite a bit of time studying Japanese tea ceremony, which provides me with a space of stillness and beauty.

Oh, and a nightly date with Stephen Colbert for an end of the day laugh.

Chele, What a wonderful gift! You are her fairy godmother!

Soleil, funny.... I bet your daughter isn't kidding; but neither are you! My daughter would have loved more decorations in her house, but my mother wasn't playing.

Tina, now that is a great idea. I always read those NYTimes short trip articles, but haven't done a thing about it.

Lately for fun, I have been making a point of visiting with friends. Last week, headed North to help my mother, and then drove even farther north, up the Connecticut River Valley to pick up my lamb. He was harvested two weeks ago. This valley is beautiful. This was my first time driving north on the NH side. My loss completely. Tonight we are taking the 'kids' out to a fancy dinner to celebrate my birthday. This is a splurge, but I insist on birthday celebrations ever since I progressed.

Happy Birthday, Susan! Hope your dinner is delightful! BTW, I was happy to see that you dined at Rasika when you visited DC. We love it and have been there four or five times on special occasions. It's tough to get reservations on Fridays and Saturdays, as you might imagine.

I think we should meet next time you get to this part of the East Coast. In the meantime, happy trails. Do check out the NYTimes 36 hours book. I think all those articles might be in the online archive, but it's more fun to page through the book and stick post-its throughout.

Still househunting in Seattle....in the pouring rain! Guess thats not too much of a surprise, is it? Soleil, have seen some nice ones but havent found "THE" one yet. Tonight going to take the kids out to a special dinner as it is my son's birthday. I feel fortunate I am here to enjoy it with him.

Soleil - swords, axes, staffs - they even have bows and arrows with big soft tips. So much fun!

So this week I'm looking for a bath and some tiles via Mr Google as my counts are low and I've got a bit of a sniffle so avoiding 'planet outside' as much as possible.

OK so it's not a big deal but getting a bath after years of having a walk in shower is pretty exciting for me! With the recent ascites I've been having, sometimes the best thing (like when you're 9 months preggers) is a nice deep bath with a pillow and some smelly stuff.

My great dad who only went back to Scotland last week is coming down again at the end of this week to pull out the old shower and tiles, ready for the plumber. 74 and still as fit as a fiddle!

We built a new bathroom in some attic space last year. I had the best time picking the tiles! Here in the states, they will let you take home samples to test in the space. Maybe you have a friend who could pick up the tiles you pick from home so you can see them "in real life" before buying. So happy that you will get a tub. We should all send you our favorite bath bubbles or salts.

Didn't mean to make you cry! Since she can't take the pony home with her I made her a little photo album. I'm looking forward to her next visit.

We finally went on an official bird watching trip at the locally famous Dauphin Island.  Just being with these two people was the beauty of it though.

DH Tim, SIL Lisa,  and me. (im thinner but the face is gone from rads; at least I have vision!   Will I ever get over wanting to be cute....)
