So...whats for dinner?

LOL Chabba!sounds like something my DH would say. Nice pics, thanks for sharing. Wish we had something like that around here.
Joyce, sending thoughts and prayers your way Joyce. Only thoughts of benign. Hugs.
Still thinking of your dad and Chuck Debbie.
Thanks for the advice on the blender. It was a combination blender/food processor, so I still can use thhe food processor. It's just a little smaller than the pitcher for the blender. I saw a cuisinart immersion blender at Costco today for $30. They had a blender for.$20, but it wouldn't fit my base. I have to check out bed, bath and beyond and see what they have. And maybe kohls.
Not cooking tonight, just took some leftovers out of the freezer. Tomorrow I am thinking eggplant parm though -
Oh and thank you Joyce for the advice on the dog collar. A friend of my DD's was over today and was telling me about the same thing. I went out and picked one up at pet smart. She is much more comfortable with it. No more cone of shame for Bella.
-
Laurie- Thanks for the pictures. Oh yumm that dessert looks sooo good.
Michelle and Joyce- You both look so pretty!
So thats what a facinater is, never heard of it before have seen them just never knew they called it that.
Going out to dinner tonight with friends to hear some guy play the saxophone. should be interresting.
-
Everyone looked fascinating modeling my Fascinator. Lunch was delish, can't wait to see Michelle's pics. Stupid me forgot my camera, DUH!
-
Laurie, how fun, everyone looks wonderful, including the dessert!
-
Looked like fun. I still can't post pics, maybe I can try tomorrow on the computer, and post the WI pics. I had a drunken jerk, pork jerk style with pineapple salsa and fried plaintains, wonderful. Today, my husband was home for the first time since my hospital debacle. So he took me out to dinner. I had lobster! I loved it, he earns extra points. BTW, the lobster was only a dollar more than the shrimp, which is usually my go to for celebrations, becausebi can't afford lobster very often, but lobster is cheap this year, so I got that. Only a 5 oz, but it was enough for me with a spinach and Bacon salad. Yum! You guys on the coast may not think its all that special, but here in the Midwest its party food! LOL

Yes, today's gathering at Pickety was so delightful...such good company in a truly unique setting with such savory food. Now Joyce, I think we may have to get in line for the Laurie adoption. She is such a great gal, maybe we could all take turns being her adopted moms! I am also daughterless, and daughter-in- laws are lovely, but not exactly the real thing. I was so happy to finally meet both you and Laurie, today. So much fun!!
I keep thinking about your pizza dinner, Michelle....hope you had a great time, and could move from the table after eating again! So good to see you again, and I forgot to say how much I like your "long" hair.
Deb's daughter's wedding photos were beautiful....her daughter radiant, and it was great to see the two families enjoying themselves.
I came home after stopping at Trader's (one that has wine, in Framingham, and I found one of our favorite red wines from many years ago....called Bulls Blood, for 4.99.... we paid a least that in the seventies!) We may find that it tastes like rot gut to us now....we'll see!
I just could not escape my cooking addiction today, so I baked up another lasagna with roasted tomato sauce and eggplant to bring to DS and DIL's this week....and then baked a couple of loaves of pumpkin bread. Now I'm off to start sewing all the little ribbons on the taggie I am making for my new granddaughter. I needed a deadline for getting this completed and driving down there on Monday provides that very nicely!
I think it's neat that there is a more pooch friendly "Elizabethan collar" for the dogs to wear. Poor Lacey, our miniature schnauzer had to wear one often during her sensitive skin season. She adapted to the darn thing each year, but it never looked comfortable.
Kay, I do have an immersion blender named "Dualit", a brand I do not know. I probably use it two or three times a year, but it's nice to have when you need it! I do wonder now that I have my prized Vitamix, if I will ever use it....we shall see....with my current cooking craze, I probably will.
Eager to see your pics, Moon, and glad you got your special birthday dinner!
Debbie, sending you caring thoughts with all that you are coping with!
I agree with the others Eric, that you need to take a bit of a rest! Hope you can....
And Joyce, so many positive vibes will be travelling up the highway for you as you undergo your procedure on Monday. (((((hugs))))) -
Joyce and Lacey- You sure know how to make a girl feel loved.
You both brought a tear to my eye. Also, the feeling is mutual. You are wonderful ladies and I am so lucky to have met you. I will keep you in mind when I am wanting to complain, celebrate and just babble...that's what I used to do with my Mom. I know I almost always need to do all three of those. Especially when there is a "miss- fire"!
-
I almost forgot- dinner tonight was half of a left over cheeseburger my son had eaten most of. I am still hungry and headed to bed. I've got a birthday party to prep for in the a.m.!
-
Wow. Lots and lots of posts. It sounds and looks like everyone had a good time at Pickety's. I like the pictures. I'll have to find some of our wedding pictures, scan them and find a home for them on the Internet.
Moon. When I read "I had a drunken jerk", I kind of stopped for a moment....
:-)
Today was kind of quiet...laundry and a deep cleaning of the kitchen...even brought in a ladder so I could clean the tops of the kitchen's ceiling lights.
Dinner was breaded pork chops, green beans and some fruit...after which we took DD to the high school homing dance.
Coat pork chops in a flour, salt and pepper mixture, then dip them in a milk egg and mustard mixture and then sprinkle them with bread crumbs. I baked them about 10 min on a side as hot as the oven would get..450F degrees.
Monday will be the end of the 4am days. The regular bus driver will be back and I won't need to drive the bus after that. I'll be able to sleep in until 5.45am.
Sharon's energy is coming back...which is good. She started the tamoxafen this morning...the pharmacy had to order it and it took a couple of days for it to arrive. I guess that's good news that they don't have to dispense it often enough to keep it on their shelves. -
Here are the group shots from yesterday's Pickity Place excursion:
There's me and Laurie in the front, Joyce, Deb and Pat in the back. We're a good looking group!
This picture was taken outside in front of the gift shop.
Pat posing with the fascinator
The sesame crusted tuna entree - such a work of art!
The cute potting shed
The colors of fall foliage on the way were starting to really show
A rafter of turkeys hogging the road on the way out of Pickity.
We got back to Joyce's house at 4:30, I high-tailed it home with a stop at CVS for a couple of cards. We got to the European at about 5:50 and there were 15 of us plus a baby - a huge crowd. Our end of the table ordered two pizzas, the other end stuck to entrees. The service was incredibly slow and it was well after 8:30 by the time everyone got out of there. We went back to the birthday boy's house and they had all kinds of food out - which no one touched! We didn't get home until after 1 a.m. It's going to be a long, do-nothing kind of day!
Here's one of the TWO pizzas that we ordered. My DGS#2 was waiting patiently for the arrival of theses gigantic pies. We had almost a whole one left over! The two adults you can see in the picture are my son-in-law on the left and my older daughter on the right.
-
Great pics Michelle. Also love your new avatar. Your hair has gotten really long!
-
Michelle, thanks for all the pic posts......They came out great....turkeys and all!
What a long, full day you had. Some serious chair time must be in today's game plan...
Wow that was one bigga pizza! Having your grandson standing behind it really gives size perspective.
Laurie....bring it all on.....anytime! -
Michelle those are great pics. Looks like you guys had a blast. How did you get that cat to pose for your picture? Too cute.
We did a cruise down the canal yseterday, and our leaves are just beginning to change also, will have to do another one when they have changed more. got some great pics of a beautiful blue heron though.
Today will be friends over for the Buffalo Bills game against New England....the game is on you New England ladies!! LOL Made some broccoli chedder soup, and will have with just some bread and probably a big bowl of popcorn. Rainy and cool here.
Love and prayers for you Debbie and your family.
Moonflwr So glad youwere feeling up to a dinner out, What a great husband to treat you. Its the same here with the lobster...we just dont get it that often due to the price.
-
Carrie - it was funny, the cat was just there and didn't seem the least bit disturbed by us when we posed for our pictures. There was another one on a chair in the gift shop - same story! I think they may be the most mellow kitties I ever saw!
Lacey - really serious chair day. Rick and I will be fighting over the Ryder Cup golf vs. the Patriots game. I may move upstairs to one of our other tvs. Gotta keep track of my Fantasy Football team!
Thanks, Nancy! My hair is really long (for me) but it's so curly that you can't tell that my bangs touch my nose when I try to straighten them!
-
Michelle, I hope you got my email about my neck. It looks like you had so much fun! I'm jealous and so sorry I had to miss it. Your hair is so long. I could have played "boingy curls" anywhere!
-
Michelle, thanks for the pics. What a busy day for you. I am glad you are resting up today!
Carrie, canal ride sounds so nice. Trees are changing here rapidly.
To all, much love! -
Bedo - yes, I did get your message. Sorry you couldn't join us this time, I thought of you when we were noticing the kitties! And yes, you could play "boingy curl" with my locks! I thought for a second about trying to dry it straight, but the weather was so crappy that the curls were going to overwhelm any effort on my part. I keep hoping they might loosen up a bit as it gets longer. But that begs the question, how long am I willing to let it grow. I've had shorter hair for decades! At least I can keep it off my face, which was always my issue in the past.
-
Wonderful pics, where did you see those Turkey's? I had a wonderful time with all you wonderful ladies.
That Pizza is huge.
(((TO ALL))))
Getting ready soon to meet up with some 1969 high school grads.
-
Deb, have fun with your HS friends today...
....and I forgot to thank you for again (!) shepherding me back to civilization after our fun soiree! I've decided that there really is no way for me to get to Pickety for under an hour and a half. Tho the long drive was very pretty. -
I guess it's fall here. The high temps are now down into the low 100F range. The nights are *really nice*...low 70F range.
A pie pumpkin is cooking in the oven......... DD is excited....Sharon is mildly pleased--she's on weight watchers getting rid of the chemo weight gain.
Debbie thinking of you and your family...take care.
Eric -
Love all the pictures, you all look like you were having so much fun. And love the color of the leaves and everything changing now. So beautiful. Thanks for posting the pictures.
Michelle- Your hair is growing so fast, I love the curls. I normally have straight hair but when it grew back from chemo it was really, really curly like tight curls but once it got to shoulder lenght it relaxed and I loved it at that point. Now it is in the middle of my back and I have to use a curling iron. I might go get a light perm because I actually liked it when I had those curls.
Eric- I cracked up at your drunken jerk experssion LOL!
Bedo- Are you ok?
Seems like it's been awhile since we heard from Apple hope she is ok.
Last nights dinner was not good but the music was awesome, had a piano bar with a great singer and had several people singing and a guy playing trombones, he also would play 2 trombones at a time. It was called torch and swing! The dancers were amazing too. If only i could dance like i used to.
-
Joyce- Me too! wish I could meet you all in person maybe some day.... Maybe some day we could all plan a vegas trip and meet there. I know I wouldn't have any problem getting DH to take me there and we all love the casinos right? ha! You are always in my thoughts and prayers too Joyce. xoxoxo
-
We may be a dangerous group in Vegas, but would love to give it a try.
I went to the local farm stand/bakery, out here in the country in the middle of nowhere, to get some bread to go with my soup today, and the owner got me two fresh baggettes, one rosemary and the other garlic that were fresh outta the oven...amazing! And I got a concord grape pie, made on site that was great also. Our guests from PA had never had a grape pie, and loved it....served with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream...mmmm. This place is a treasure for us out here in the boonies, where the nearest store is 20min away.
Eric thats so funny on the temps, dont know how you ever turn an oven on.
-
I'm "doing" the pork roast today. The corn and zucchini are waiting for their time on the stove, the rolls are at the ready, the pumpkin pie is hanging out in the refrigerator and the salad stuff is patiently waiting.
Eric -
Eric- sounds fantastic! I agree though- I don't know how you turn the oven on with those kids of temps.
Carrie- Mmmmmm- bread!
Ahhhh Vegas. I have never been and don't think I will make it there and time soon. I might have to live vicariously through you ladies.
Today was DS 5th birthday and everything went really well. It was so good to see all of our friends and Ds was so happy with the whole thing. His cake, which I had made came out amazing, chocolate with a chocolate chip frosting in between the layers. This girl who makes the cakes is very affordable and does such a great job.
-
Eric, I am so pleased that your food is willing to wait, and patiently at that!
Another 20 lbs of tomatoes are turning into roasted tomato sauce. I increased the amount of herbs since it almost time to bring in the oregano plants for their winter home under the lights. I have found that they do much better if they have been trimmed way back before moving to their winter home.
13 cups of chili are cooked and put into containers. When they are a bit cooler, I will tuck them into the freezer. This is my husband's favorite "Susan is not here for dinner, what will I eat" go to dinner. Chili is never my favorite meal, but we had that for dinner since it was all ready to go, accompanied by some freshly made chips I made from left over corn tortillas.
Finally, I have harvested all of our remaining basil. It is all washed and is now drying before I turn it into a garlic-basil-oil paste. This can be the basis of pesto or sometimes I just thow some into a soup as a final garnish. To freeze, I am putting it into ziploc bags, and then using a chop stick to create squares. I hear that you can then break off one square at a time. Perhaps this will work! Always looking for the most efficient way to store our summer goodness.
The PP women look just wonderful. What a lovely group. So glad that you had a wonderful time together.

Great pics! Bedo, i hope you're pkay? Beautiful cake Laurie.
Susan, I am so glad you're posting. I will hopefully pick up some tips from your posts.
Just had some chicken breasts cooked in the crock pot with barbecue sauce, sweet potato fries, and a big salad. And enjoyed a beer with it. I think my Irish is showing.
-
-
Carrie- I never have tried grape pie either sounds good though.
Laurie- That cake looks so beautiful. Happy Birthday to your son. Looks like he had a great time that crane you got him is ginormous!
Susan- Oh my, how do you find the time to do all that? I wish I had a big enough freezer to freeze things and had the ambition too.
Made steak tips with mushroom and onions in a brandy sauce, and macoroni salad with imitation crab for dinner. Wish I had some of Lauires cake to top it off.
