Joyce, please add my thoughts and well wishes to all the others as you cope with the waiting now, and the procedure on Monday.

Moon, thank you for explaining taggies to the crew! I have been busy here in NJ helping to "entertain" the recipients of my taggie efforts, so little time to post. I feel sad for my DDIL who is coming to the end of her maternity leave this weekend, when she is totally loving caring for these two babies.

Laurie, I'm very glad that you are getting that sinus infection taken care of! And I'm in solidarity with you re: the rigors of this childcare business! These kids have DH and I exhausted...and delighted!

Loved reading all the dinner suggestions...I may have to re-visit them tomorrow as we figure out what to have.

I will probably make chili, it sounded so good.

Lacey, I guess I was just in an explaining mood! LOL

Michelle- Thanks for the update on Joyces appointment.

Joyce- Sounds like you are in good hands with someone from Mass general. I know you already know this, but try to keep busy to take your mind off the dreaded waiting. We will wait with you holding your hand. (hugs and love)

Laurie- Funny that your DH wants to cook a turkey out while camping, i suppose people do it, just sounds funny to me especially even in my kitchen it sounds like a big deal lol! Hope you feel better with the antibiotics!!

Seaside- I remember when you did the chopped challange on here, I should start doing that, might make being in the kitchen more exciting. I know you have a anniversary coming up in 2 days, what are your plans?

Tazzy- I also had beef taco's for dinner, one of my favorite foods to eat. Dh is not a mexican food kind of guy so don't get to make them as often as i would like.

Kay- I have a fitness membership and have only used it twice in 2 years, I get it free Via DH being a director at the casino but I need to start taking advantage of it.

Thanks Moon for the descriptions on what all those things were! ha!

joyce:  Sending you prayers!  Hoping this is just a cautionary thing.

My company has come and gone.  Fortunately the weather held out for two days so we could do some touring and attend a concert in the evening at the Biltmore Estate.  Since then it's been raining so much I need to build an ark!

I made an awesome short rib dinner in the crock pot.  My friend raved about it.  It was made with sliced onions, beer, spices, some beef broth, simmered for about 10 hours, and then served with carrots and mashed potatoes.  Very easy!  I also made a pineapple upside down cake which called for vanilla pudding in the mix.  I'm not sure I liked that because it made the cake a little soggy to me.  I wouldn't use that again.

I'll have to catch up on all the posts!

Kaara, the beef short rib dinner sounds good.  I have a couple of packs in the freezer.  I bought them at a meat market in SD along with a couple of flat iron steaks, ribeye steaks and hamburger.  Wish we had meat markets here in south Louisiana.  All our meat markets are in supermarkets or food markets like Fresh Market.  We do have seafood markets where you can be sure of buying fresh fish or shellfish.

Have any of you heard of Tastefully Simple food products?  I had a box of the products waiting for me when we got home.  It's a business like Pampered Chef that markets through home parties.  A woman at the resort in MN had a party and I bought some of the products to help her out.  She works to support her family because her husband is disabled.  Most of what I bought are seasonings that can be used to make dips or can be used as seasonings.  Every food is prepared by adding no more than two ingredients.

With all the talk of tomato sauce in my mind, I peeled a couple of huge tomatoes that had grown soft in the camper refrigerator, chopped them up and cooked them in a skillet with onion and garlic powder, EVOO and some balsamic vinegar.  I added this sauce to last night's linguine w/Italian sausage and pesto.  Was really good with sprinkled Italian cheese.  But there are still leftovers since dh and I are trying to limit our portions!  My weight and bp are up and it's time to take off some lbs and get the bp under control.  The latter will involve some med change.

Now I must go for my 3 mi. walk.  I think tonight will be chicken prepared in some way.  Or--maybe walleye fish.  Our SD friends gave us several packs that had been caught by their fishing relatives.

Hang in there, Joyce.  We all empathize with your worry.

The taggies sound cute.  Is the square in the middle padded?

    Debbie,

Yep! Our 25th anniversary is tomorrow (Oct 3).... Can't believe it's been that long. We met at work when I was just 20... A huge group of us started around the same time and all hung out together! We didn't start dating until 3 years later so had a nice long time to get to know each other as friends!! We got married 2 years after that! I can honestly say that I married my best friend and even after all this time we still like each other...lol!

No special plans for tomorrow although we have a party to go to for his work and that will be fun!! We went away and stayed at a Bed and Breakfast for the weekend 2 weekends ago that was on the pricey side so, I guess that counts.... lol!

    Moon,

Thanks for describing all of the terms that we were confused about!! I swear I learn something new ever day here! Bumpy cake sounds really yummy! Wish I had some now!

I don't think I have ever eaten ribs?  You ladies make me want to try them.

What a day.  I woke up this morning feeling so awful I could barely function, I managed to push trough the morning and went to the Dr and got my antibiotics.  I am already just a bit better.  So...this morning my youngest comes up to me and tells me he stuck a bead up his nose.  I tried to get him to blow it out I tried to get it out with a tooth pick....nothing.  I called the Dr's office and they tell me I either have to bring him to an ear nose and throat specialist or the ER.  Hell no.  I asked if she had any other ideas.  So she talked with some of the nurses and they suggested I block the nostril that does not have the bead and then blow into his mouth to force the bead out.  It worked!!!  Thank God.

So now we are off to soccer.  Dinner is a frozen pizza and salad.  After that DS 1 and I are going to make fruit ka bobs for school tomorrow to celebrate his birthday.

    I think I can....I think I can....

Laurie, add bead removal to your resume! What a strange story. So glad it worked.

Dinner tonight is already somewhat underway. Started this afternoon making a Indian tamarind-date chutney. I love this sweet sour sauce and it keeps for months in the fridge, so I always make a quart. Dinner with be what we call Samosa meat. This is the last package of ground lamb, and I make it into that savory samosa filling. But we don't need the extra flour and deep fat from making dumplings and frying, so we just eat the meat with peas. Will serve with a Masoor Dal with garlic [yellow lentils with garlic and tumeric] and some plain basmati rice. I put some rice in a bowl, and cover half with the lentils and the other half with the Samosa meat. Then drizzle the chutney over the meat.

This is one of my favorite meals, and the leftovers are wonderful!

Susan, I want to come to your house for dinner.

My dinner is a very mundane grilled hamburgers and oven fries, but the steak tips last night were wonderful and Debbie, the brandy was a very flavorful touch. I think the primavera is on tap for Thursday.

Hey Michelle, I'm going to kc next week, anyone you want me to say hi to lol?

Poor Laurie, I hope you get some rest soon and the antibiotics fix you up.

Oh Laurie, so glad you got some antibiotics...on to getting better.  Funny story on the bead, moms really have to be "jack of all trades"  It probably would be funny if you werent feeling so crappy and really didnt need an extra challenge.

What did you ladies use as "steak tips"  Do they sell them labeled that way? Sounds great to me with the brandy.

Susan you are way above my head in the cooking dept. Everything sounds so professional.

Happy Anniversary Seaside Sometimes celebrating at home can be just as romantic....light the candles and put on some music and enjoy a nice dinner.

Carole  Yes I have heard of tastefully simple...garlic garlic  and bacon bacon  ha ha they name things twice.  Very good for dips and cooking.  I buy the stuff for my kids as Christmas presents...good stocking stuffers.

Dinner will be two potato scalloped with ham steak. I used leftover potatos from breakfast (homefries with onion) and frozen sweet potatos, scalloped. guess ill have leftovers again! LOL. But I love leftover scalloped potatos, I just add more milk to make it soup, or just eat them for breakfast. My favorite meal. Haven't cooked it since the BMX.

    Leftovers tonight.

Let's all go over susan's to eat.  When I come home from work, I just don't feel like cooking.

Trying to get a bill resolved that BCBS won't pay.  The coding is wrong, the clinic that I have my lab work done or someone keeps coding it as routine not diagnosis.  Double dumb asses. I have to give the nurse at the office a call tomorrow she left a message on my phone at home.

OMG Laurie, you brought me back to my very first visit to a pediatrician with infant DS1 (who is now the sweet daddy of these little grandkids), back in 1977!

The patient before me was a pre-schooler who had put a bean up his nose. Dr. Hass promptly got it out! I guess that it was before all docs became so specialized .....and pediatricians do not have the right "equipment" to handle such cases. ;) Good thing mothers do!!

Spent a rainy day inside with the babies. Boy are they busy....even little Ava has figured into the attention mix. We will all sleep well tonight! Hope they do.....

DDIL and I spent most of the day in the kitchen....making veggie/fruit smoothies to introduce to DGS, making an interesting quinoa/brown rice spinach loaf that could be sliced for DGS's snack and called "bread" since that is his latest favorite food. For dinner we made a tasty Meditteranean quinoa salad to go with marinated grilled chicken.

Relying on Trader Joe's for a Pear Tarte dessert.....then sleep...........

    Laurie, beautiful and yummy looking!

Carrie, I believe steak tips are usually sirloin or sirloin tip, which is marinated. I used boneless ribeye because i had a single largish steak on hand. I've also used tenderloin when I've bought a whole one and cut it up myself. The end pieces make great tips.

    Those fruit kabobs look delish!

Susan, you do sound like a professional chef.  We'll all come to your house for dinner!

The panfried walleye fish fillets were SO good.  I heated up the skillet with some EVOO and a pat of butter.  Browned the fillets.  DH made a tartar sauce.  Our side was steamed broccoli with squeezed lemon juice and some pats of butter.

Laurie, yummy looking ka babs. The kids will love 'em!

Carole, the taggies do not have to have any extra padding/filling if they are made with two pieces of fleece, since it is thick enough to feel padded. When I make one side with a silkier fabric, I usually line it with polyester to keep it plumped enough. When I get home, I'll try post some of my favorite taggies...do I need to put them on Facebook first? What other sites could I use first?

    Thanks!

Nancy - have fun in KC!  The American Royal is underway during the month of October.  If you're in KC this weekend, don't miss the World Series of BBQ competition - it's heavenly to walk around and smell the delicious food being prepared for judging.  And you won't believe the creativity of some of the homemade smokers.  It's a real party event!

Laurie - the kabobs look fabulous, I'm sure your DS is excited to bring them to school tomorrow.

We went out to dinner tonight with JoyceK and her DH, had a fabulous meal and great conversation, as always.  She had a homemade fettucine dish, my DH and I had buttermilk fried chicken with hand cut french fries and asparagus (really naughty but we had half of each dinner left over) and Joyce's DH had short ribs.

I had spent the afternoon shopping at JC Penney for new undies, socks and bras for my mom, then went to visit her.  So by the time we got home, I headed straight for my PJs!!!  I think Joyce was planning on doing the same.  We're real party animals...lol!

Laurie- Those fruit kaboobs look so yummy! Hope those anitbiots help alot!

Nancy- Glad you liked the brandy with it, I usually will have a small shot when I make them too it helps lol!

Carrie- Nancy is right sirlion tips are usually what you use for the tips, however any steak you have on hand will do. I also like to make them with filet mignons if they are on sale.

Michelle- Sounds like a great dinner you and Joyce had out!  How is your mom doing?

Made pork chops for dinner after I cooked them I put some shredded asiago & parmesan cheese on top and put it under broiler for just a minute. Sweet potatoes and brussell sprouts. Pretty yummy!

Debbie - thanks for asking, my mom is doing much better.  She still has some weepy "I hate this place" moments, but she has far more better days.  They upped her antidepressant med and it seems to be taking effect, thankfully.

    Happy anniversary, Seaside!!!

Reporting back on the basil-garlic-oil. I had read that you could put the oil into a zip lock, and then with a chopstick or skewer mark it in squares. The theory is that then you can break off pieces as needed without thawing.

HA! My basil-garlic-oil laughed and taunted me. There is NO way that this concoction is interested in cooperating with me. For a short moment it would separate like the Red Sea, but then it remembered the law of physics and oozed to fill the open spot. Now I have to hope that smashing the block against a counter will crack it enough for me to use smaller pieces. Next year, I am going back to using ice cube trays.

Susan- LOL! I just saw the "Kaboobs"

Susan- Could you defrost the whole thing in a bowl and then reput them in ice cube trays?

    Seaside- Happy Anniversary!

Pushing through another day with this yuckiness.  Ds special snack was a hit and he was very proud so that made me feel great.  Thanks for all the compliments  :)  He got to choose dinner tonight and he picked spaghetti- no meatballs.  So I am making Michelle's sauce and some garlic bread and salad.  Nice and easy.

I need to get my menu together for camping this weekend and do the shopping and some cooking tomorrow.  I am hoping these meds kick in big time when I sleep tonight!  I will admit, we all took a two hour nap today :)
