Bedo, peel and freeze bananas. Then you can make bread or smoothies on your own time. Daughters are so much fun. LOL

Bedo and all the other Pickity Place gals - yes, this Saturday!  Our reservation is at 12:45.  Looking forward to seeing everyone, hoping it doesn't rain so we can enjoy the foliage which should be quite nice.

Over-ripe bananas - yes to banana bread or muffins.  Or just pop them in the freezer, skin and all, then thaw and use when you're ready to whip up the batter.

Deb - thinking of you and your dad.

I'm making lasagna today, gotta do it since I bought the ground beef on Monday.  After these last few days, I may not cook again until we return from Hawaii on 10/21!!!

We have a couple of the WI group getting together on Friday. I am looking forward to that. I can imagine your group too, I hope more people can get together too. I am getting excited for you and your trip to Hawaii. Soak up some color for us! We will need it this winter! LOL

Moonflwr - I hope you have a fabulous get-together!  Who knew, years ago, that "internet friendships" would develop as they have, with people meeting up and making life-long friends?

Oh you can be sure I'll be soaking up some color!  My DH made a comment the other day that he was afraid I'd "overdo it" in Hawaii (that was after my cooking extravaganza on Monday).  He ordered me to have plenty of "beach time."  He should know me better.  Give me a pool and a beach, a lounge chair and my Kindle.  I won't move for hours except to rotate my body like a rotisserie chicken...LOL!  And a little basting with umbrella drinks!  Yes, I will be taking it easy and soaking in all the Vitamin D I can get!  The LA portion of the trip will require a little more energy - we are going to Catalina Island, visiting relatives and probably doing some other "touristy" thing.  Once I get on that plane to Hawaii, though, I'll be in a completely different mindset!  I expect the hardest thing I'll do is press the shutter button on my camera!!!

Michelle  I loved hawaii  You can definitely do a relaxing trip if you find a spot away from the tourist.  You must be very careful though, as I came home pregnant with my first child!  Ahhhh it was such a good trip!

Ahhh   Hawaii!!!  Super jealous!!  Carrie too funny on coming home pregnant!

Debbie- I'm sorry your dad is having a hard time.  I can't blame you for wanting to see him though.  You know what it is like to struggle through treatment.  Sometimes it's nice to just sit in the same room and watch tv with the one you love, read a book etc.  Thanks for the well wishes too.

Bedo- sorry but lol at your daughter driving you nuts!  What are you reading?

This cold is brutal!  I have so much to do and don't want to do any of it.  I went to the grocery store this morning and felt like I was walking through a thick fog, so out of it.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.  I bought a pork roast on sale and will make that in the oven with garlic and onions with mashed potatoes and butternut squash for dinner.

(((Laurie))) Seems like you had just a couple months off and now the cold season is already upon you.  Sure hope you're feeling much better soon!

LOL, Carrie...the beauty of menopause Wink  We are staying at a hotel on the Kahala coast, a bit north of Kona.  We'll be away from the touristy areas but right on one of the nicest beaches on the island.  My DS and his SO will be on the island, too, but they are staying near Kona.  We'll be checking out the Ironman Competition - "watching it" is as much exercise as I'm planning to get!

My last big cooking deal before we leave for vacation - I'm making lasagna tonight.  After this, we'll be eating up what's in the fridge, the freezer, eating out (birthday celebrations this weekend) and practicing for vacation!  And I'm spending next Thursday night with my good friend who lives south of Boston.  I have to be at Dana Farber at 9 and that's a tough drive from our house during commuter traffic.

DH and I took mom out to lunch, then a haircut, then I went back to her apartment and switched out her wardrobe.  Now I'm spent!  She was in good humor again today, and the staff said she's been doing much better.  It's such a relief, I was getting worried that I might have made a big mistake.  But she is adjusting, finally, and she was smiling for our whole visit.

Thanks everyone to all your kind words of wisdom and well wishes!

Bedo- Over ripe bananas are great for banana bread or you could even put it in some pancake batter if you wanted to eat them fast! I think your DD knows she has her mommy wrapped around her finger!!

Michelle- LOL on the basting with umbrella drinks! We are going in January wish some how it would of worked where we were there together at some point so we could at least have a nice hawaiin drink together! But So glad you will get to unwind and relax doing nothing, Is that even possible for you?? LOL! Lasagna sounds really good right now with some garlic bread.

Carrie- LOL! Oh no you didn't! hehe!

Moon- I hope you will take some pictures of your get together! Have fun.

Laurie- If I could I would bring you some turkey noodle soup. suppose to be good for colds. I seem to be getting a lot of colds too this year, hope you feel better by this week-end with all the stuff you have going on.

Joyce- Wow, has it really been 6 months since you got your puppy? Seems like yesterday. Your dinner sounds great. I havn't had a decent sweet potato in awhile since they were out of season should be good  now, think I will buy one for me for dinner tonigh since DH is golfing!

Looking forward to meeting you, Saturday Joyce and Laurie!

Bedo, I always have very ripened bananas in my freezer, and often throw them into my morning smoothies.

Kaara, happy for your mammo results!

Debbie, sending you caring thoughts as you navigate this painful time with your Dad during his treatment.

As our days have cooled a bit, I'm getting envious of your Hawaii trip, Michelle. Sounds heavenly! And it is probably curative....so maybe a medical expense write off? ;)

Had gazpacho, teriyaki salmon, brussells sprouts and brown rice tonight.

kidsand labs - my center advised eating a breakfast with protein prior to tx.  It is good to have the BRAT diet ingredients on hand in case of the Big D (bananas, rice, apples, toast) - good luck!

all - quick enchiladas - 1 pkg. small flour tortillas, 1 can of red enchilada sauce, 1 pkg. shredded cheddar cheese, 1 rotisserie chicken - remove chicken from bone and shred, chopped onion, 1 can of mild green chilies (chopped).  Spray a rectangular baking pan with cooking spray, mix chicken, onion and chilies toegther.  In each tortilla put some cheese and some of the chicken mixture, roll and place seam side down in the pan.  Fill all the tortillas this way and pour the sauce over all.  Top with more cheese and bake at 350 F. for about 30 minutes or until the sauce is bubbling.

debbie - prayers for your dad - I know how hard this is.

It is still too hot here for much cooking in the oven, we are still doing a lot of main dish salads, or quick things on the stove.

kaara - yay for the clear mammo!  Enjoy your friend!

Hello to everyone and this has been a busy thread!  It is full of nice people!

Lacey - I'll have to try that medical deduction and see if the IRS agrees...lol!  I'll get my doctor to write a RX for Hawaiian sunshine and warmth!!!

Our Pickity Place menu looks amazing.  I'm going to be so stuffed...and then we have to be at the European in Chelmsford for a family birthday dinner at 5:30.  I'm so NOT going to be hungry.  They were known for their gigantic pizzas, so we are pretty sure the grandkids will get a big kick out of this place.  And there will be about 15 of us, it's a good place to handle a big crowd.

Lacey  Yumm on the banana smoothie...with my tummy still a little off a banana smoothie sounds soo good.  I bought some bananas to help with the big D but they are on the green side right now, makes me want to let them get really ripe just for a smoothie.

You guys have a great time at Pickity this weekend...dont forget the pictures.

Laurie  Are you going to make it to the get-together?  I hate to say this, but the best way to get better is rest, rest, rest.  I know how  impossible that is with little ones and the demands of a family.  Hope you kick this soon.

Still no cooking here till my tummy settles. My DH is being so patient, and thank goodness he loves canned soup.

Carrie I hope you feel better soon, a yucky belly is a horrible thing to have.  Yes I am planning on going to Pickety on Saturday!  I just hope I don't give this to anyone.  (Also, if anyone would feel safer with me staying away I totally understand.  Especially you Michelle being in the trial and with Hawaii coming up.)

The nest week and a half are going to be a whirl wind- no rest for me.  Today we are going to get stuff for DS birthday party on Sunday and to look for Halloween costumes.  Next weekend is the Halloween camping weekend with trick or treating etc.  Having the party is stressing me out.  The bathroom is only half painted and the place is not looking great.  I need to do hard core cleaning tomorrow even though you probably won't be able to tell by Sunday.

Tomorrow is our tenth wedding anniversary and we have nothing planned!  Ds birthday is over shadowing us right now lol!  I have to try to at least pick up a card while I am out!

Laurie - I am sure that by Saturday you will be well-past any contagious stage of your cold.  I'm not worried at all, so don't even think about it!

Carrie - hope you're feeling better soon!  Tummy troubles are no fun at all.

laurie - I know what you mean when events are too close together.  DH and I thought a Christmas wedding was romantic - now the anniversary gets lost in the shuffle of the holidays and who has extra money for an anniversary blowout?  I am sure it will all come together for you and be a great success - you are just in stress mode right now!

    Laurie,

Happy 10th anniversary!!! I hope that you find a little calm in the wonderful chaos that is raising children to celebrate! DH and I will be celebrating our 25th on Oct 3.... I also completed treatment on Oct 2, 2009.... So double the reason to celebrate!!

To all the Pickety Place ladies... Have a great time!!!! Soooooo jealous!

    Debbie,

Your post made my heart hurt... Of course you want to be with your Dad.... As to what you were thinking to suggest a trip... Please, please, please.... Do NOT beat yourself up over this.... You are such a kind and caring person and I am the same way... would want to be there... but we have to go by the wants and needs of others, hard as that is... I think I was a far better patient than I would have been on the supporting end...

You and your Dad are in my prayers!

PS.... How is Chuck feeling lately? Hoping he's doing well!

I'll bring a lot of pics, want me to wear my Fascinator? LOL  I will bring it to Pickity Place, I love it.  I'll take pics of everyone modeling it.  I'm going to have a busy weekend, Saturday, Pickity Place and Sunday at 2, going to the 99 in Westford to eat with some local gals I graduated with.

I guess the lawn mowing will have to wait.

My husband's efforts which included clearing the area of the basement around the boiler, and rebuilding the cellar stairs paid off. They turned on our new hot water heater at 2 this afternoon! This was 12 work hours ahead of schedule. Of course that meant that we couldn't justify a dinner out.

For dinner I made a roasted orange cauliflower soup with andouille sausage and some Vermont cheddar cheese crackers. The soup was actually fabulous! It was a total freelance effort so I will never make it again. I have no idea how I made it, really. The crackers were 97% successful. I would have prefered a bit more crunch. However, the recipe is worth making better. I love crackers! [Who doesn't? Butter, flour and flavorings, crisp in the oven.]

My ambitious husband went to the farm and bought 20 more pounds of tomatoes. So, 8 more pounds of roasted tomato sauce is done.

Have a wonderful time at Pickety Place. Sorry I can't join you, but I am dining with another member of this site. Can't divide my body as hard as I try!

Thanks everyone for the wonderful Anniversary wishes!  Michelle and Joyce- you brought a smile to my face and a tears to my eyes with your offer to take care of the gremlins :)  Thank you so much.  DH is plotting and planning for us to go to Foxwoods for two night in the next couple of weeks- the problem is we are so busy!  But where there is a will there is a way right?

Dinner tonight was American Chop Suey, lol.  Not Dh's favorite, but I like it a lot, reminds me of being a kid.   I think I was the only one.  Haven't made it in years as it is not a house favorite.

Good night everyone and sweet dreams- this thread and all of you make me smile.
