Athena, could you explain what the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling means to the people in Pennsylvania?

I'm afraid I can't garden. :-) I am not particularly knowledgeable in that area. I am sure there are folks who know more and can explain it. It appears that the state supreme court has suggested that the lower court issue an injunction - whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.

When Liberal became a "bad" word years ago, I began to call myself a Knee Jerk Liberal Wink

Don't think I'll need to take the test.

Glad you're safe Bren, it's HERE now - winds, rain all day - tornado watch- no basement, well, only access from outside, so I put a few pillows in tub, just in case - only room without a window,  think the worst is going to be a little west of us -there they have "warnings" - I'm learning the difference.

ETA: ooooooh....Kam, I love it - and if that's the same chipmunk that kept eating the shoots of my sunflowers as soon as they peeked green above the earth - I hope it winds up being some furrball's lunch!

I wonder how David Koch might respond. See this:

TAMPA, Fla. - Billionaire industrialist David Koch, who is helping steer millions of dollars to elect Mitt Romney and congressional Republicans, on Thursday told POLITICO he disagrees with the GOP's stance on gay marriage and believes the U.S. needs to consider raising taxes to balance the budget.

Koch, who is serving as a delegate to the Republican National Convention from New York, spoke to POLITICO after delivering brief remarks at a reception held in his honor by Americans for Prosperity, the political advocacy group he chairs and has helped fund.

The 1980 vice presidential nominee for the socially liberal - but fiscally conservative - Libertarian Party, Koch told POLITICO "I believe in gay marriage" when asked about the GOP's stance on gay rights.

Romney opposes gay marriage, as do most Republicans, and when that was pointed out to Koch, he said "Well, I disagree with that."

Koch said he thinks the U.S. military should withdraw from the Middle East and said the government should consider defense spending cuts, as well as possible tax increases to get its fiscal house in order - a stance anathema to many in the Republican Party.

"I think it's essential to be able to achieve spending reductions and maybe it's going to require some tax increases," he said. "We got to come close to balancing the budget; otherwise, we're in a terrible deep problem."

Athena, I read that and my thoughts were, either David Koch is lying his ass off or he has no idea what Romney's positions are and who is advising him on foreign affairs.

Can't say I disagree with any of what Koch says there. Defense spending is the elephant in the room, in my opinion.

I do actually believe thata strong military is necessary and all that, but not to the tune of 600 billion a year, or whatever it is now. Defense contractors are the beneficiaries of the hugest entitlement programs out there. WIC is chicken feed in comparison.

Surprise, surprise...the Christian Science Monitor says I am left of Obama...lol.  No kidding!  ...as you all know, I have been seriously disappointed by much that has happened in the past 3 years on environment...  I wonder if I am left of Jill Stein????

It is a sign of how disorganized or non-existent the Romney campaign messaging is. One would think the democrats would be more likely to have such a disparity. The Bush days of total message discipline are clearly behind us. I don't know anything about Koch, but one thing I am fairly sure of is that the Romney campaign has not bothered to give its top supporters basic talking points to make sure they are aligned. I wouldn't be surprised if David Koch doesn't know where Romney stands - not that it matters anymore.

So far, the only ideological stance I am certain Romney has is: "the working poor are useless tossers and anybody who wants to become rich still can." Besides the lie, and the moral implications of this, another inference we can make is that Romney seems to think this is still a land of endless opportunities and the country's economic landscape is fine and this is Utopia for the responsible citizen. Surprised He's not in a country club fantasy - he is in an Ozzie and Harriet one.

So David Koch pretty much agrees with Obama.  Interesting ... what do you suppose he is expecting to get for the vast amounts of money he's spending to elect the GOP?

The idea that Obama is a socialist is a fantasy.  The complaint from the left is that he is not 'left' enough.  Moderate with a lean to the left is more the truth IMO.  And an unwillingness to sell out the middle class to the corporations.  Which answers the question above.

Kam ... love the cats picture!

Hope you easterners get done with the rain soon.  It is much cooler here after the rain went through.  Sunny and breezy.  Athena weather I would guess :)

WR...I totally agree with you.  Obama is moderate.  He is no liberal.  A liberal would have worked a heck of a lot harder toward putting an end to our wars and an end to the Patriot Act and an end to exemptions from the clean air act for fracking.  A liberal would have put an end to allowing Monsanto execs into his administration.  A liberal would never have given in on universal health care.

While I am a liberal, I accept that at this point, we will not have a liberal leader.

I believe that people's willingness to paint him as a liberal is entrenched in racism.  There is some assumption that he is a radical because he is not white.  Sigh.

    I lean left.

And I understand why Romney said what he said. He has a big fight on his hands and he's making it seem winnable...with just a few more dollars. See? We don't have to go after that 47% because it's already lost (insert pandering, insulting and racist language here because that's the language his supporters speak) but we can go after that gullible 10%!

It was his great misfortune to have a camera in the room.

I do hate politicians in full fund raising mode.

Yeah...those crazy Europeans that have incentives for people to ride bikes, get preventative healthcare and avoid gmo's.  What is wrong with them?  Downright immoral, evil people, interested only in people's welfare.  How dare they?

You know, on the Kelly and ? Show, Mitt was asked what he sleeps in.  He prevaricated, ofcourse...can't remember his answer, but it wasn't the truth.  I can tell you exactly what he sleeps in - his LDS underwear!  A t-shirt and bike shorts (either white, or for military, a camaflouge color) with little insignias on them (above the knee and i think chest) that he purchased at an authorized LDS outlet.

    This, however, http://www.cnbc.com/id/49071984/

shows how many view his stance.  I'm not saying that the vote isn't padded by Romney lovers who just keep clearing their cookies and re-voting, but we do need to face the fact there is a large contingent of our society who don't understand that the 47% they rail against includes their grandparents and parents, and that the reason that young people pay into social security is because someday they too will be old people, and will then be entitled to receive that money they paid in as a small pension.  As companies no longer award loyalty by offering a pension, often social security is the only thing people have to keep themselves alive.  I was listening to NPR this morning, and heard that something like 75% of people over 55 have only $26,000 in savings, which means they do have any option - no matter the state of their health, no matter the state of anything, they MUST continue to work, if they can find any kind of job.  If the Republicans manage to pull this one out as they did the last two Money mouth the people who are often the most rabid supporters of the far right may soon become unbelievably disillusioned.

It's VERY important that Democrats do not become complacent.  Romney may be a foot-in-mouth kinda guy, but that doesn't mean that people won't vote for him in droves, because they DO NOT WANT OBAMA.  Getting out the vote is crucial.

Pip - rofl! I hereby post some of the text in your link:

    September 18, 2012 3:35 PM EDT

Clint Eastwood called Republicans "dumb" for letting him speak at the Republican National Convention last month.

In an interview with Extra, the celebrated actor and director tells reporter Jerry Penacoli, "If somebody's dumb enough to ask me to go to a political convention and say something, they're gonna have to take what they get."
