Sun....just watched the Stewart link. Laughed so hard I thought my coffee would come back up.

Stewart and Colbert are favourites in our house. Brilliant writing...but they do have good material to work with.
-
God, I love Jon Stewart! He is always spot on. And so hilarious!
Blue, your Dad uses kinder words than I do.
If Willard was (were?) my candidate, I'd be sick to my stomach about now. Not so much with him, but with the thought that I would have no choice but to re-evaluate my beliefs and WHY he's my candidate. But too many of his folowers have no conscience, no need to ponder. Lemmings off a cliff.......
-
They have a psychologist on MSNBC analyzing Mitt Romney's personality right now. Is this the theme now?
-
Loved the Stewart video. Wonder what gaffes will be committed today??
I have some wonderful friends who happen to be Mormon. We were neighbors 30 years ago and have stayed friends even though they moved to another state. I admired the way they put church and family first in their lives and tried to pattern some of our family life on theirs. We were invited several times to their family night and enjoyed games and fellowship. Their kids were all great athletes but weren't allowed to play in games that were held on Sundays. Guess what .... some of the teams changed their game schedule so that they didn't hold games on Sundays. My DH and I studied with their missionaries mostly out of respect for our friends. We attended church with them on a few occasions. There were aspects to their religion we couldn't accept but in my opinion, Mormons are good people with high moral standards and total devotion to church and family.
It's almost too bad Romney is a Mormon .... I don't think he is a positive representation of the religion. -
meant to say, what scoot says about marriage...
it is SO nice being on this thread
don't know if anyone else reads www.Daily Kos.com ( a blog)
I wouldn't repeat here, what I read there, but it's a good source of information and some links I wouldn't have found by myself
-
Jackie's question about why Willard Romney's family was in Mexico to begin with, got me curious, so I googled, and found this:
and this
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/08/mitt-romney-mexican_n_1192694.html
Interesting Willard Romney could have dual citizenship with Mexico. Gee, wonder why no one is quesitoning his birth certificate, after all this....amazing....not that I care, really, just surprised this has been kept so quiet. Well, still 7 weeks to go

-
Sunny, we need to start pounding the table and chanting: Willard, release your tax returns AND birth certificate!
-
Glenna - I do not deny your experiences with your Mormon friends at all. The church greatly encourages family and the support of fellow members.
I do disdain how the church controls it's members, via the Temple Recommend interview, encouraging shunning family members by other family members if one strays from the church, or the threat of separating familes, the way the leaders of local wards intervene into what I would consider personal family matters to get them back in line. They also tie their members up with Monday is for family night, Tuesday is a Woman's guild of sorts. They also plan other events on other nights....it is a full time job. You do not socialize with non-Mormons - no time! The internal goings-on are startling.
I'm not sure if the LDS church has majority or just sub-majority rule of the Boy Scouts of America, but each Ward has their own troop - Mormons only. The church designates the leaders of these troops from their church membership (they really have no choice, they are told, you will be a leader this year). The reason why Gay Troop leaders are not allowed in the BSA is because of LDS involvement, though they do segregate their troops from the troops open to the public.
I think this structured lifestyle, the mormon-only socializing, etc. has to be considered and calculated into any analysis of Romney's personality. Ofcourse, he was a Ward President, so he was the dictator!
Interesting tidbit....my junior high was near one of the first west coast LDS Temples. My Home Economics teacher was Mrs. Romney, Mitt Romeny's aunt. We learned to make a lot of unhealthy food - biscuits and milkshakes
She was nice, though. Her husband was brother to Mitt's father. -
(roaming the plains, looking for chickadee)
Sun- Daily Kos is nice to read. I get updates from them sometimes.
-
They fled to Mexico when the US outlawed polygamy. It is my understanding that the Mexican government would not give them citizenship though. Guess they were illegal immigrants in Mexico huh. Anyway ... they returned to the US when the Mexican Revolution made living there dangerous. And used welfare benefits available to them as refugees. It might be a little bit amusing to start contorting that into wild conspiracy theories ala what has been done to Obama ... but copying stupid just makes you look stupid also

The Mormon church is known for taking care of their own. Which I consider admirable but some would consider socialism. Ironic.
ETA ... Interesting Kam. Perhaps that is some of his problem with his campaign. He is not used to discussion or explanations or disagreement. But rather to a rigid structure and either you obey or you order and others obey. Throwing out the 47% in his remarks would also be akin to shunning. Who knows ... all we can do is admit our puzzlement.
-
I don't think too many of Romney's followers have no conscience. Conscience (or lack thereof) is bipartisan - it's just that it might translate in different ways.
The presidential voter I have the most disdain for is the one who only votes his personal interest for president and nothing else. Plenty of that in every party.
I wonder how many republicans plan to sit out this election. William Kristol doesn't sound terribly enthused, nor does Peggy Noonan. And David Brooks (who is no longer conservative in this environment) will probably vote for Obama.
What I would be very surprised to see is any democrat voting for Romney after this week.
-
I'm sorry Sunflowers for not answering your question which White Rabbit did quite well. I will have to read slower. And...yes Athena....I think the ship could be so much lighter now from both parties.
Jackie
sorry....in such a hurry.....going to be late for work if not careful I put in the wrong name....got them straight now.
-
I'm really surprised about William Kristol. He is such a rightwing ideologue. He was behind the Sarah Palin nomination! I keep wondering if he spoke too soon and wishes he could take back those words and spin the whole Romney inelegance into the redistribution of wealth argument like the rest of them. Could be he's waiting for 2016 because he knows Romney would never make it more than 1 term anyway. By then, this country would be sick of Republicans for a lifetime as Romney has zero chance of being a good President without much luck. He'd have to shutup and not engage anywhere, though.
Has David Brooks actually said he'll vote for Obama. I know they have a mutual admiration over their respective knowledge bases.
-
WR "copying stupid just makes you look stupid.."
You are so so right. Kay
-
Kam - I'm not sure re: David Brooks. Just my speculation.
Kristol says his dream ticket is Ryan/Rubio (yikes!)
-
Yorkie - the last 2 PMs I sent you were not allowed - "limited number of PMs allowed per day"...I've exceeded. Strange.
-
That's it...Kristol is waiting for the heir apparent...Ryan. Even if I agreed with Ryan, I'm not impressed with the kid. I thought he would give Romney more uumph. Strong phenotype with a weak genotype.
-
I think someone reported one of your posts and you are on restriction, time out.
-
Reported for what? Am I not allowed on the Conservative thread? To correct their facts (which, by the way, they agreed with me!)? To express an opinion about a politician?? I can follow rules, but first I need to know the rule(s) I violated??
Yorkie and I were PM'ing about our BC diagnosis and tx and now that dialogue has stopped. I'm seeing an oncologist 366 miles away tomorrow and I wanted some information so I could ask that doctor about it (she's not my regular MO, but a gyn/MO who did my ooph a few weeks ago).
-
Ok, Kam. Silly rule, imho. I'll be off to see the MO in about an hour. Wait, WHAT, Kam is on restriction? No way!
-
Kam,
maybe too much thinking?????
I thought the lurkers were gonna stop hassling once they had their own thread...hhmmnnn...
well, guess it's up to the Mods to see WHO IS DOING THE REPORTING BASED ON WHAT RULE
-
Well, I'll be away from the computer for the next 8 hours, driving to see my surgeons anyway, so maybe by the time I get to my destination, someone will have answered my questions above and Yorkie and I can continue to discuss things before I see my doctors tomorrow morning.
-
Kam-you don't have to be violating any rule to get reported by a community member. It's report first, mods investigate later.
Some people don't like facts or differing opinions, and rather than see them, I suspect they report.
Edited to add-Free speech is apparently free only when one is in agreement.
Mary

Thanks guys! I reread my posts. Nothing there but the truth, nothing mean. I can't imagine reporting someone because I disagreed with them. I like to engage with people of different beliefs, but I don't like misrepresentation of the facts, or outright mistruths. It will be the downfall of our society, eventually. I'm turning my computer off and heading north to beautiful Portland, Oregon. I love seeing my gf and going to all of the fabulous PDX restaurants. We're going to hike up Mount Tabor.....the first big hill I will have tackled since finishing chemo and my latest surgery. I cannot wait!
-
Take care Kam! I love Portland!! Enjoy and forget about the idjust!
-
-
kam, sadly, many of us have learned that even what we think is "the truth" is seen as "confrontational" to others who post on BCO.
As long as the "disagreements" from any other thread, don't start showing up on this thread,I don't care what anyone says. But MUCH TOO MUCH history of provoking posters on this thread to explain, and expect, as they did with Athena's attempts to explain the Moderators will delete this post. Under the rug is fine withme, always, when it comes to BCO.
Have fun in Portland, and walking...
-
Kam - go to your "dashboard" and scroll down to where it says "recent posts" and you might either see something that says "removed by the community" if that is what happened OR you might notice that something you remember posting simply isn't there. Another option is to look back through about 24 hours or so of threads where you have posted and see if you can find any "removed by the community" or "deleted by the moderators" next to your name.
If your PMs are restricted you may have to wait until tomorrow before you can message the mods and ask for an explanation. I hope they deal privately with you in this.
If you are having trouble wading through your recent posts, then go to the e-mail address associated with your BCO account and see if you received an automated BCO e-mail there. The time stamp can at least tell you something.
Sorry this happened - been there many times myself! If you write to the mods asking for an explanation I would also request that they take you off PM restriction, as you are trying to get private cancer treatment-related info from another sister.
Good luck!
-
Speaking of not wanting to hear opposing viewpoints - my niece (a hard-Right Palinista lawyer) has informed me I may no longer make comments on her politically-related Facebook posts. Agree to disagree, blah, blah, blah. I think she sounds more than a tad defensive!
