Chiming in very late..Happy Birthday Bren. Lots to read today.

Here's a link for that:
I'm just happy he hasn't a chance of winning. Mr. NO EMPATHY AND STARTLING IGNORANCE. If he truly believes almost half the country consists of people who take no responsibility, then why would he want to govern? Who, except a no-empathy power hunter, would want to lead such a nation of supposedly lazy, irresponsible people? Only an idjut.
Again, there is a major power vaccuum on the right and I think this video makes it clear why: there is also a major knowledge and reason vaccuum.
-
So now we know why our troops in Afghanistan were not mentioned by Romney during the convention (only half joking). They are all freeloaders. After all, it's the guv'mint that's a-keepin' them fed and clothed! I guess that's why Bush-Cheney didn't think fit to make sure our soldiers in Iraq were sufficiently well clothed or armed. We needs more welfare queens and kings!
-
He stuck his foot in his mouth again. What a doink!

Here is the URL for the tapes. Wow.

As of right now, the comment in The New York Times that got the most recommendations in reaction to the video says the following:
You can shoot yourself in the foot. You can put your foot in your mouth.
But it takes a special talent to put your foot in your mouth, and THEN shoot yourself in the foot!More here: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/17/romney-faults-those-dependent-on-government/?hp

Well sh*t ... I wish he had told me that sooner. Since I got my butt up and went to work every day I never drew a penny of welfare, or food stamps, or unemployment benefits or even Social Security off my husband's work history. But since I'm an Obama supporter and he wants to tar me with that brush may I please claim all those freebies he's convinced I expect retroactively??
ETA ... and the reason I never needed any of that stuff was because I was lucky and never lost my job or got too sick to work or watched my job get outsourced. Those are good programs and should be there for people when needed.
-
I'll have some of that unclaimed government support too, please.
-
Pretty brazen words about people paying no federal income taxes coming from a man who refuses to release his Federal income tax returns. Hmmmm... Could it be that he is one of the 47% who paid no Federal income taxes? Seems like he is pretty dependent on corporate welfare!
L -
HL, my thoughts exactly.
-
Make no mistake though. Some of his supporters are going to eat this up like candy. They want to believe that all Obama supporters are lazy and looking for handouts. It's what Rush, etc. have been telling them all along. And they can draw unemployment and get federal backed student loans and grants and home loans and even food stamps and never realize he has that same level of disinterest in them too.
-
Why is he (and his supporters) assuming that everyone who doesn't pay taxes is an Obama supporter? He apparently doesn't realize that he's insulting a large part of his base, and they don't seem to realize it, either. Weird.
-
Wow - lot's to catch up on in today's news. I'm going to prepare my eggplant that I bought at the Farmer's Market, probably raised by some freeloading organic hippie farmer and paid for by my freeloader gubmint employment. Wow, I can't wait to have him as my boss.
I remember the news of Molly's illness came almost simultaneous with the news of her passing. I hadn't heard of IBC either, but her death certainly raised my awareness. They give menstruation classes in 6th grade; maybe they should also give classes in BC for as many women that are affected. I'm also one of those who didn't know much about BC until I had it, but I had squirreled away this little tidbit about Molly.
-
Wow again - Rachel Maddow just said this was possibly the worst day of Romney's campaign newswise, as of this morning, but that was before the late breaking news about Romney's campaign today.
-
Holy post threads, batman! Five pages of posts since I was last here....phew. Well, hoping all are well!!!
-
I was going to post the Mother Jones link - but HL beat me to it!!! Boy, Willard really chomped on his foot this time. Lo, tho he only pays ( par only 2 years of tax returns) 14% on MILLIONS of dollars, and has most of his funds Off Shore to avoid taxes
think it's a great idea to read this report, after listening to Willard Romney lament all those "taking advantage" of the US government and "not paying any taxes"
Really, you can't make this stuff up. Can't WAIT to hear what Dave Barry, Jon Stewart, and SNL do with this.
YEAH, David Corn!!!!!!
-
ATHENA - that is the MOST MOST fabulous comment - darn it, we have to stop this chortling and read...
YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST, do you know that, JUST THE BEST!!!!!
-
I just read that Romney believes that middle income people are those who earn $100,000.00 to $250.000.00. My prescription for this man is duct tape.....several layers. I keep expecting some one will take him aside, but it may be like Sunflowers article.....he has put himself in the driver's seat and man the torpedoes, full speed ahead.

Athena:
I LOVED this comment too: Mitt Antoinette: "Let them eat food."

It gets more and more interesting. Much of the conservative base - the real ideologues - is displeased with Romney. They see him as not being true to conservative values, and they are highly critical of the way he has run the campaign. You will never guess what I just read on The American Conservative, of all places. The following article:
The Internet is abuzz with Mitt Romney's remark that 47 percent of Americans pay no tax and therefore can't be expected to appreciate his message of personal responsibility, and so on. Since Romney sees the 53 percent of Americans who are net federal taxpayers as his natural constituency, you expect him to be doing especially well in the states where they live.
That doesn't seem to be the case. Via @emsimpson, here is a map of federal income tax non-payment rates by state compiled by the Tax Foundation:
Of the states with the lowest non-payment rates, only three-Wyoming, North Dakota, and Alaska-are clearly in Romney's column. These are also the states with the lowest population. On the other hand, eight of the ten states with the highest non-payment rates are solidly Republican. The exceptions are New Mexico and Florida. In short, Romney's geographic base is in states where large numbers of households pay no net federal income tax.
Of course, it's possible that all or most of these "lucky duckies"are voting for Obama. But it's more likely that Romney shares the delusion that the freeloaders and looters are concentrated in the Northern, coastal cities that Democratic dominate. Actually, the states they call home are the heart of his electoral strategy.
More here:
http://www.theamericanconservative.com/where-do-the-47-percent-live/
In fact, if you want to read some of the harshest criticisms of Romney, the conservative press is an excellent resource. Not the "establishment" press like Fox but some of the talk show hosts and even "reputable" conservative voices.
I can't imagine southern conservative Christians whose main issues of note are social being exactly pleased that Romney considers them "victims" with a sense of entitlement simply because they don't pay federal income taxes even though they work and pray hard.

David Corn tells Rachel Maddow video was taken at home of Marc Leder in Boca Raton, FLA in May. From the Palm Beach Sun Sentinel:
"
"Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney wrapped up a two-day Florida fundraising flurry with a pair of invitation-only events in Boca Raton on Thursday night.
Romney’s first Boca stop was a reception at Woodfield Country Club and then on to a $50,000-a-plate dinner at the home of Marc Leder, co-founder of private equity firm Sun Capital Partners."
If you want to learn more about the lifestyle of one of Willard's big money supporters, there is this piece in the NYPost:
http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/nude_frolic_in_tycoon_pool_S8t8KXKG1IeGFSDtN6Xm9M
Somehow isn't quite the image I was thinking Willard would want associated with his "Republican values"
Could this get any better??
-
WR, I just got home from work and saw the article on ragweed farms. Who knew? Thanks. We could be sitting on a fortune here.

Susieq, thanks for your article on wind turbines. I guess it depends on how sensitive a person is to the infrasound. I don't think too many birds would venture near them as they are very sensitive to changes in the air flow and sound. I understand about it being worse inside a building. They have been pulverizing the pavement in front of our property. When I am inside, I feel like my head is going to blow up. Outside, it is just an annoying noise and vibration. Is that what fracking is like?
-
Just to make sure everyone gets the setting - this video was taken at a $50,000.00 a plate FUND RAISER in FLA.
That's FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS A plate. Per person. At Marc Leder's Boca Raton home. Wonder if there was nude frolicking in the pool there too????????????
-
Romney is now saying that his remarks were "not elegantly stated" and were "off the cuff."
Sad. Mr. no empathy still doesn't begin to get it. He almost makes things worse. He is essentially saying 'I should have said half of Americans were lazy victims better.'
-
Oh, please, please let him just keep talking, PLEASE Willard, don't stop explaining yourself

Did everyone hear who helped FIND the video - Jimmy Carter's grandson!!!!
Ain't life grand....
Nite all - SWEET DREAMS everyone...
-
Interesting....I went to the Faux News website to find out what they were saying about the Romney 47% speech and there is not a story to be found about it. But they're "fair and balanced", right??
Mary
-
Actually Mary, Frank Rich did a nice interview with RM tonite about Faux News being the "Romney Network." Ofcourse, that is sooooo hard to believe. (sarcasm, ofcourse) -
This actually makes me sad. It lowers the national discourse. It's a shame that America can produce such a major candidate. That is too much hate at too high a level.
-
I agree with Athena - it is SAD. Truly, that this could be a candidate. Not surprised Faux news has avoided it
Just got this email from a friend = every other media outlet is all over it - and it will certainly lead tomorrow's news
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-09-17/today-mitt-romney-lost-the-election.html
-
Republicans have not had a responsible and reasonable candidate since Bob Dole. There are many reasons for this, but I'll list two - Rush Limbaugh and Faux News.
