    Hi Girlfriends!

Thanks for the birthday wishes.  I spent the day at the dentist.  I broke a tooth off last night and cried myself to sleep thinking he would have to pull another one.  This one would be quite noticable when I smiled.

Thank goodness the dentist was able to cement the broken tooth back on.  I am so glad I saved the part that broke off.  He drilled a little spike thingy into the tooth to use to hold it in place.

Good news is Mr. Tim was home today.  He's been gone for two weeks and he leaves again in the morning.  It's the first time in years he's been home for my birthday.  woohoo!  My sis bought us some steaks at Sam's club so he's going to bbq for dinner.  We're also having bbq baby zuccini and steamed broccoli.  Yum!  I'm so happy I don't have another hole in my mouth and I can enjoy dinner.

    Hugs to all,

    Bren

The ones in northern Indiana are in the middle of farm fields.  When you get close you see that they are really quite far apart and the base of them is small.  Those fields are being farmed right around them.  So it is not taking taking farm land ... just turning it into dual use land.  Like anything new it will probably take some studying and fine tuning to prevent and cure the problems and get it as efficient as possible.

Happy Birthday, Bren - glad the dentist could fix you up.  I have to get a crown replaced and am sincerely dreading it.

Susie - I've heard that claim about base load from renewable energy sources before, but according to many, it's a fallacy - especially for wind energy - solar maybe not so much, as it's pretty hard to generate solar energy when the sun is below the horizon.  Wind, though, as long as the wind farms are geographically distributed, is pretty reliable - though I agree that any energy company based wholly on renewables that didn't have back-up gas or hydro turbines would be skating on fairly thin ice (with the notable exception of hydro, as rivers run pretty constantly).

Kay - much of the energy for the NorthWestern US comes from hydro.  That is also remote from most of the users of the electricity.  Also, electric companies buy and sell power, so, for example, when Seattle City Light has more than it needs for its customers, they sell the power to other electric companies and vice versa.  It's very high volume trading that goes on all the time.  The electricity running through your house could very well have been generated hundreds if not thousands of miles away at any given time.  As long as we use electricity, it must be generated somewhere - It would IMHO be ideal if each and every house/apartment bldg had it's own solar panel(s) that generated power and sold the overage to the electric companies, and that may be in our future.  One of my big regrets is that we didn't install solar panels on our house when we purchased it.

YorkieMom, I expect you know the beloved Molly Ivins, a Texan, wrote a great book about GWB - the Title was Shrub.

Speaking of TX - does anyone know how  our Chickadee is doing????

Don't know about the Penn State ruling - I thought it was "decided" in our favour ( Hugs to the Canadians & Brits) but not sure - maybe I was just dreaming/wishing...

Sunflowers - I think you were just wishing - there was an article out yesterday that said the Pennsylvania Supreme Court would make a ruling this week.

I live in Pa...........and can honesty say...I don't think it has been decided yet what they will do as far as the ID's go................sad for the elderly, and we know why it is being done..........at least in the Philly area we know why...............so what else is new...........Let's make him a 1 term President......sound familiar......what better way then to lose the Philly vote because of ID's.....................

Bren - funny you broke a tooth too - I also took the piece with me in case he wanted to superglue it on or something - he didn't need to.

Riley - my mention of a wind turbine catching fire, was just an anecdote I remember seeing in the news lately - not a statement that they are bad.

Ok - did the research and found this article all about wind turbines, health etc

BTW - I'm all for alternative energy as long as it's not nuclear or coal seam gas which seems to be the favoured thing here at the moment - very dangerous stuff IMHO.

I have hope for the Penn ruling.  I saw snippets of the questioning and all of the justices seem to wonder "why do we need to implement this so fast?"  The "Liberals" on the court questioned the political motives of the law, specifically the Republican head of the State Senate who basically said to some group of Republicans "Implement Voter ID Laws - get Romney elected - Done!"  They also questioned the amount of Voter Fraud that had occurred in Penn and the government's lawyer basically said "Well, we have no documented cases."

Jim Cramer (CNBC) tweeted a couple of weeks ago "I have a problem.  My dad, a vet, won't be allowed to vote in Pa. because he dos not drive, he is elderly, and can't prove his citizenship."

Ofcourse, the state of PA came quickly to the rescue of Jim's father because of the bad publicity, but what about the 750,000 others?  Argh  This is how they steal elections now.

There is a very upsetting article in today's Washington Post about a woman who is a janitor at a hospital in Philadelphia. Sorry, I can't post it on the iPad. She is 54, has been registered to vote since 19, but has no driver's license. She took herself to the driver's license bureau to get a voter ID card. It took her four hours on a weekday and cost her $13.50. From where I sit, that is a poll tax! How can working people take off 4 hours to get an officially-sanctioned ID and pay precious cash for it? The people in favor of voter suppression will say, "Well, she got it so it can't be that hard." Well, there are a LOT of people who can't take off during the work week. There are a LOT of people who don't have an extra $13.50, let alone the money to get a birth certificate to get the voter ID. Those are the people who the 1% and their minions don't want voting.

There was also an incredibly disturbing article in today's NY Times about an organization called "True the Vote," which by all accounts exists to harass, intimidate and otherwise suppress the votes of the poor and people of color. Again, I can't post it from the iPad, but take a look -- it is worth the read.

The sad thing is that the politicians who vote for what is effectively a poll tax, think it is AOK, including most of the people who voted for them.  They also don't care that the political operatives storming Broward County were from DC working for Karl Rove and pretended to be local concerned citizens.  Stealing an election, whichever way is ok if their guy wins.  I felt like a dark cloud moved over my life in 2000 and didn't leave until 2009.

Well gosh, it's good to know that I am a welfare queen, dependent on the government for food and housing.

Good going, Romney. You just insulted nearly 1/2 of the people you claim you want to represent. Asshole.

Scoot, I suppose Romney is forgetting what it is supposed to mean to be American. He doesn't remember to mention our troops in Afghanistan during the most important speech of his life, and these men are dying, so what are the chances he will remember that people who pay into a system deserve to benefit from it too?

(((Barbara))) How are you doing - any luck with jobs?

Oh boy. The tape of Romney saying that and more was on NBC Nightly News. Go to "Mother Jones" and you can watch the whole tape. Nothing you didn't already know, but pretty bald out there.

Just read the Wash. Post story you referened, HL. I can fairly say that if such a thing happened in many developing countries it would be a scandal. Here it is:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/decision2012/for-some-pennsylvanians-voter-id-quest-is-an-ordeal/2012/09/16/758d4f52-0027-11e2-b260-32f4a8db9b7e_story.html

There is an enormous inequity in voting in this country.
