Bren, how big a dog is Maggie?
Edit to add~and how old?
-
Thanks for the good thoughts about Maggie. She's a 40 pound border collie and she's 10 years-old. She's getting around pretty good on three legs. I'm just worried about the surgery on Wednesday and how I'm going to pay for it.
hugs,
Bren
-
Bren~
Do you know how bad the tear is in the ACL?
Our border collie tore his at 9 years old and the vet said we could do the surgery or give him "bedrest."
We went with the bedrest and pain meds and he is back to his normal self.
He was not very happy about being crate bound for a bit.
(I'm sure it depends on how badly they have torn it...)
Hugs to you as I know how bad those vet bills can be.
-
Bren, I've know of several people who did not address it surgically. (I may be comparing apples and oranges since I can't say for sure how badly each dog's crutiate was damaged.) As Ang7 said, COMPLETE stall rest. (Crate.) I'd be hesitant to spend that kind of change on a 10 year old dog without first trying rest and only outside on a leash to do the necessities.
Hugs.
-
Thanks for the comments gals. I really don't know what to do. She's not in a crate, but she stays very quiet during the day. Only goes outside twice to pee. I'll talk to Tim and see what he thinks we should do.
We're under a tornado watch here ... arghhh. And with Tim at home now, he'll probably make me go to the basement!
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Bren

Stay safe Bren, basement if nesessary!!!! Listen to Tim.

I went to the RO today and the PA wants me to have an ultrasound for a bb sized lump in what used to be known as my good breast. Ultrasound Wednesday and back to the doctor Friday. Are we having fun yet?
-
(((((((Rosemary)))))) - if it does turn out to be something, just think it's good if it's been found early. After 2 times, I appreciate both were found when really small. Hoping it's nothing though.
-
Hugs to you Rosemary. We're all here for you and hoping for boring, B9 results.

I posted this on the "Calling All TNs" thread, and since I don't think there is a lot of overlap between who posts here and who posts there, I'm posting it here, too.
I ran across this video on YouTube and was laughing so hard I was crying. It's titled "O Fortuna - Misheard Lyrics (Animated)"
-
Riley
That is too funny.
-
Rosemary, that sux. Like the rest of us here, I am chanting "benign, benign, benign" on your behalf. And, your phrase, "...what used to be known as my good breast," is too true. No, we are not having fun yet. (When does the fun start???)
Hugs to all here. I've been reading occasionally (on the road again), but not posting much. Blue, still heading toward that "normal" feeling? Bren, are you out of the basement? What did you decide about surgery for Maggie's torn ACL? Jancie, are you back up on Jazzy yet? And, dear Scoot, healing quickly I hope... (I'm not intentionally skipping anyone; it's just that I don't want to flip back to the previous page.)

Hey all~
I posted this on another thread but wanted your thoughts...
My oncologist said my lymph node pain could be due to hormones and my use of Lavender lotion?
Has anyone heard of Lavender oil causing this?
Good grief. Guess I will switch to coconut oil unless there is a problem with that.
-
Ang, that sounds a bit far out to me.
-
(((Rosemary))) Praying it will be boring b9.
ang. I can't imagine it's the lavendar lotion.
Bren, we also had a pet that needed crating due to that injury. It took a while about 6 weeks in her case but well Worth it!
-
Ang -- I don't remember where I read it (but I guarantee it wasn't on a "woo" website!) but I recall that lavender should be avoided -- in lotions especially. Which I found depressing, because I love the scent of lavender and we have a wonderful lavender farm in our area which the growers use to make all sorts of products.
Frankly, I am a bit disdainful of the phyto-estrogen fears, because there just hasn't been enough good research. But it's kind of interesting that your oncologist mentioned the lavender connection, and I'd humbly suggest changing lotions.
Rosemary, here's another one mumbling B9, B9, B9. As for a good breast -- ha! I've supposedly got a good one too, but the onc keeps a careful eye on that little "nodule" that apparently hasn't changed in the last 4 years. -
Riley -- I just watched the video and almost fell off my chair laughing! Thanks for sharing
. -
Oh, cr*p. Now, we're supposed to avoid lavender?
That has turned out to be a magic fragrance for me. One of my chemo buddies (from the May '08 thread) gave us all gifts from her store, including bath bombs made with lavender. Not being a bath-person (preferring showers), I put my bath bomb in my underwear drawer. I soon found out that the fragrance of lavender wafting out of that drawer every time I opened it had a calming, soothing effect on me. I took the bath bomb with me, tucked in a suitcase or plastic bin, when I traveled somewere I thought might be stressful. A few deep breaths of that lavender, and I felt better.
It's funny... I'm skeptical of most of the claims about "this causes cancer" or "that protects against cancer," but, for some odd reason, I find the phytoestrogen stuff scary. I guess it's because the chemistry almost makes sense, but I don't really understand it. (I've forgotten most of the organic chemistry I ever knew.) So, even though I don't worry about plastic water bottles, I do avoid soy. Go figure.

A Facebook friend (a girl I went to high school with), posted a photo of a garter snake in a bush beside her house, and she and her friends were having a right proper freakout about how they'd scream, run, pee their pants, call 911, etc. I pointed out garter snakes were harmless, it wasn't going to start living in the bush (it was probably either after bugs or trying to get away from a cat or something), and that perhaps calling 911 was an overreaction.

I then told them the story of a neighbor I'd had, who had come over banging on my door in a panic because there was a "scorpion" on her patio. I reminded her that we didn't have scorpions in Indiana, but she insisted she had it trapped under a bucket. It turned out to be (drumroll please!) - a crawdad. After I laughed at her, I tipped it into the bucket and carried it over to a ditch on the edge of the property.

The gals on Facebook were NOT amused and insisted a garter snake in a bush was a valid reason to call 911, and I suddenly remembered why I hadn't kept in touch with that bunch after high school.

Riley~
Your posts are just what I need...
thanks for the laughs.

I've heard the "lavender" story before - can't remember where I saw it - I do love the scent of it though - seriously, how much could a little of it hurt?
Bren - I have a friend whose (giant) labrador tore an ACL a few years back when she saw the price of surgery she declined it and just kept him quiet - no chasing after the tennis balls down to the ravine, just quiet walks on a leash a few times a day (shorter walks) - it's been three years and he's doing just fine - honestly the surgery was exhorbitant (think it was in the $3,000 range) - don't know what's going on in the vet world but mine wanted $500 to clean Munchkin's teeth - she's 14 and has all of her teeth - a bunch of my dog walking friends were advised to get teeth cleaning by the same vet clinic - some of the dogs aren't even a year old - tired of the cash grab - many of us are retired, on a fixed income and rescuing pets - how many rescues are going to take place if the vet's bills keep escalating?
-
Riley, garter snakes are very, very scary, OK?
That is too funny, and I see what you mean about not keeping in touch. -
Big day today! My son(my baby son
) is graduating from the University of Washington! I'm so excited! Now I am the mother of 2 college graduates. Big accomplishment in our family! It looks like it might be a nice day as well, so we can take outdoor pictures.Mary
-
Congrats on the 2 graduates. No more tuition!! What to do with the extra money???
-
Riley,
Thanks for the youtube link. That's the best translation I've heard!
Rosemary, Hugs and chants of B9, B9....
-
Congratulations to you and your son. Is graduate school in the future?
-
Hey Athena - DH and I are watching a show called "The Truth about Lions" - made by the Big Cat Diary bloke. I thought of you when they attacked a warthog

-
Here's picture of me and my son at his graduation yesterday. Isn't he handsome?
As far as extra money? What extra money??? He's planning on travelling around the US for a couple of months, visiting friends he's made over the years. He has some good job prospects with employers that are willing to wait.
-
Handsome son and pretty mom. Congratulations! (Why a lei, did he graduate in Hawaii?)
