I told Steve about that guy and he couldn't believe it - I'm going to send him the link.
We've been out in the garden. Steve has suddenly decided to clean up a messy part near the pool - pity he can't play golf today
I've had to supervise some of it as he was about to cut things that were good plants, not weeds - help!!!It's really humid, so I'm not doing anymore - I just picked up sticks that had fallen and potted a couple of basil plants I bought at the markets.

Glad to hear any word from you Blue!

<sigh>
In defense of some people I know who happen to live in, or hail from, Oklahoma, I'll offer this: State Senator Ralph Shortey (R, Oklahoma County) is a wet-behind-the-ears rookie. He was elected in 2010: http://www.oksenate.gov/Senators/biographies/shortey_bio.html
Furthermore, he does appear to be a loose cannon, at least to those residing in districts other than the Oklahoma district he represents. Note that the not-so-complimentary article cited upstream is from KRMG, which broadcasts out of Tulsa. OTOH, here's a more detailed account of the good Senator's escapades from The Oklahoman: article from NewsOK.
I know... <sigh>. The guy truly sounds like an idiot. Please don't assume everyone from Oklahoma is the same. After all, Will Rogers was from Oklahoma.

It's raining again - hurray!! A nice relief to the humidity we had today.
Steve has left 2 big piles of garden rubbish out by the pool - sigh. The bins are full and the trailer is full, although I'll see what I can fit in. Lucky our green bin gets emptied on Tuesday. He hasn't left enough room in the normal garbage bin for the food rubbish between now and Tuesday - I can always sneak it in to next doors the night before
Mind you I did ask if he could leave some room - the pest. -
thenewme - thanks for the laugh, and Otter for the perspective, still makes me shudder to think of what USA politics are. 3M's - perfection. So good to be able to come here and LAUGH..
good healing wishes being sent over the border to Blue

Bwaahaha, 3monstmama! I think you *should* write to him!! It could be a real threat, and surely it would be best to be proactive and get some legislation going to prevent alien misbehavior!
Otter, I really do get what you're saying, but I laughed out loud at the article you posted! It only makes him look more idiotic than the one I posted, LOL! Like this :
"As a pro-life advocate, it kind of disturbed me that we would use aborted embryos or aborted human fetuses to extract stem cells and use them for research to basically make things taste better."
Oh.My.Gosh. Hehe, wet behind the ears rookie or not, there's just no excuse for that level of stupid. And the very fact that he's a rookie, meaning he was recently *CHOSEN* by the people of his district.....wow. I'd be pretty embarrassed if I were from Oklahoma. I wonder whether Will Rogers was a cannibal? -
This country has come to feel the same when Congress is in session as when the baby gets hold of a hammer ... Will Rogers
Good morning all! Glad to see you joining us thenewme ... pull up a chair and get comfy.

My late DH was from Oklahoma as were his folks for many generations past - they were all Liberal Democrats and are "up there somewhere" cringing today BUT Oklahoma isn't the only state having problems - what about Arizona - what's up with Jan Brewer??
-
There was a brief article in yesterday's Globe and Mail in the Social Studie section, helping to explain why some folks are liberal and others are conservative. Herewith the report:
"Conservatives and liberals really do see things differently. Right-wingers' brains are wired to concentrate on negatives, while left-leaning people focus on the bright side," reports The Daily Telegraph (UK paper which leans to the right -- my comment).
"The research could explain why liberals traditionally accuse the right of scaremongering and exaggerating perceived threats, while conservatives say the left is too self-indulgent and dithers on urgent issues. Researchers from the U. of Nebraska measured brain and emotional responses in 200 people with strong right or left wing views as they were shown combinations of pleasant and unpleasant pictures on a screen. The test showed that liberals tended to focus on the more pleasing images, such as a beach ball or a pet rabbit, while conservatives were naturally inclined to stare at the negative pictures such as an open wound or an unflushed lavatory."
So there you are ladies -- the rookie state senator is only doing what comes naturally -- to him!
-
Morning Everybody!
Sandy ... Don't get me started on Jan Brewer this morning. Did you see the picture of her sticking her finger in Obama's face? Made me cringe.
Linda .. That paragraph is hilarious! So I prefer to look at a pet rabbit rather than an open wound. How true is that!
Hope everyone is having a good day,
Bren

Hi there. I finally made up my mind and got a Nook Color. It is charging and I am impatiently waiting until it can come out and play.
-
I hope you enjoy it, Rosemary. I'm absolutely in love with my Kindle FIRE!
I subscribe to the "if something sounds too ridiculous to be true, it probably isn't" philosophy, so with that in mind I'll go searching for the text of the anti-fetus-eating bill. I cannot believe it reads as the headlines say.
-
Well okay then. The text of the bill:
"No person or entity shall manufacture or knowingly sell food or any other product intended for human consumption which contains aborted human fetuses in the ingredients or which used aborted human fetuses in the research or development of any of the ingredients."
http://www.oklegislature.gov/BillInfo.aspx?Bill=SB 1418
He wrote it in response to Pepsi, who apparently used the services of a company that uses stem cell lines in food research. Some anti-abortion groups tied stem cells to fetal tissue and voila, instant bill.
-
Is that like instant water? Just add...you guessed it.
-
I thought about patenting dehydrated water and selling it to the End of Days people, the ones who stock their garages with 10 years' worth of freeze-dried and canned goods. Oh, and guns to keep the other survivors away from their foodies.
-
dehydrated water eh? Good luck with that
-
Yeah, scoot - don't forget to file the patent. Think you've really got something there with dehydrated water - maybe we could all get on our fancyschmancyspanggled scooters and serve it at the next debate???
-
You mean our bitchin' scooter-ridin' gang? Bring along the daisy paint!
-
Empty plastic bags emblazoned with a US flag, and instruction: Just add water. I think it's brilliant!
-
Ah, scoot, didn't think you could improve on the original idea of dehydrated H2O - but ya done gone 'n done it
-
You mean there are people that stock their garages with dehydrated food and guns? You're kidding me? By the way how are things on the rightyloon dimensional plain. Haven't visited in a while. Been sick enough! hahahahhahaahaa! CRAZY!
-
I stay on my own dimensional plane, thank you very much. Working on a new patent for dehydrated guns that you can also eat. I think there's a market.
-
Hey Scootaloo, I want in on the ground level opportunity for your scam marketing plan....errrr....ummmm....I mean multilevel marketing! I'll start working on some testimonials right away and start thinking up some colorful user names as my new "friends" who swear that not only can you eat the dehydrated guns, they even CURED their cancer! Oh, plus they just *feel* so much better after eating them, and they've lost weight too, and they don't get chin hairs anymore and their toenail fungus has cleared!!! It's a miracle, I tell ya! Count me in!
-
Okay, thenewme, you and me is partners in this venture! Do you think the domain name "theresoneborneveryminute.com" is taken?
-
Scoot, you're a genius!
-
Yes. Yes, I am.
-
Can I be a distributor?
-
Absolutely! The more, the merrier!
-
Oooh, I LOVE MLM schemes...I mean businesses.
-
This is no pyramid scheme! It's a perfectly legal business involving the sale of dehydrated liquids to survivor/soldier of fortune types. I may have to add dehydrated tequila to my product line...hmmm....
