Morning, All! The 4 inches of snow we got last Friday has all disappeared, thanks to rain and temps in the 40s (for you Fahrenheit gals) yesterday. Today it's cold and windy. So hang in there Mary, that snow will be gone in no time -- meantime, your photo was LOVELY!
Bren, check out Huffington Post to see what's going on in Wisconsin. My cousin and his wife helped make it happen -- yeah!
So, today we can't look up anything on Wiki. It got me wondering if there are still struggling students going door-to-door trying to sell encyclopedias -- or does anyone (besides posties, politicians and certain religious groups) even go door-to-door anymore?
Hope everyone is feeling A-OK today.
-
Oh yes Linda - the people who want me to pay them instead of the electricity or gas people keep coming to the door. The logic of paying someone else instead of the utility directly escapes me. The middle people can only be in it for money and they can only get that money from me (if I were to accept their offer). There are also some people who want me to give to charities whose names are similar to real charities, similar but not the same. Those door to door people seem to evaporate when the sidewalks are icy (like today) and the weather is cold.

Agreeing with all my friends re: Manhunts. What Cheryl said - really, I could have voted for him. A few positions that make me squirrely, but honestly, seems like such a good human being.
Mostly, I'm enjoying Stephen Colbert's "run" for office. Ted Koppel interviewed him on Monday's night's 30 Rock- and he is so smart, funny, and what he's talkinga bout is so SAD it really does makes me wanna cry. As if the problem of the influence of $$$$$ in politics wasn't bad enough b4 the Supreme Court decision - a vicious circle of $$$ to consultants ( who probably also get % of the media buys!), buying ad time on major media outlets, owned by most of the same corporations giving the money, so it's going BACK to source, after slinging MUD, innuendos, false information, "dog whistles" and fear mongering.
Yuck.....sorry for being so rant/rage filled, but it's also sad, sad, sad...GO WISCONSIN!
Also, hope the Patriots win, remember, I'm in western MA ;-)))

Waving hi to Linda, Wabbit, Rosemary, Sunflowers, Susie, Cherryl, 3Monst, Mary, HL, Scoot, Lassie, Sewing, Brean and Sandy and I hope that's everyone from the last two pages but if not, I am sorry and please don't take it personally. I have CRS disease.
Agree that Neyrom is looking like the one to win the marathon and I can't even get the energy to go watch. Useless racers.
-
Waving hi back to Sandy, Bren, Barbara, Scoot, Mary, Sunflowers, lassie, Lindasa and everyone else. Agree on Manhunts too. The only adult in the room. Can't think about Neyrom. Still lovin' on WI!
XOXOXOXO to all. I lurk all the time, just too lazy to post!

Waving back at everyone!Well, the snow hit here early this morning, and while 4-6 inches might not seem a lot, it is in Seattle. This comic pretty much sums up snow in Seattle:
I can't believe my daughter's place of employment didn't close today, or at least close early. She works in a jewelry department of a chain store, and was told to come in today "or else". I'll bet she doesn't make a single sale today, but she risked her car to get there! Please send positive thoughts that she'll make it home safely tonight. Mary -
Wow what a lazy day. I got up at 7:30 and got on the couch to listen to the radio and I woke up at 9:30. I cleaned both bathrooms and did some laundry. I made soup from a mix for dinner and that is all I did all day.
-
Rosemary - cleaning two bathrooms, doing laundry and making dinner - what do you mean "doing nothing"?
-
Just got word that my daughter made it home from work safely. District manager overruled corporate(and her store manager) and closed early and sent everyone home. Finally someone with some sense.
No work for me tomorrow. That's 3 days in a row with no school due to the weather. The roads really are bad, though. There's compact snow that is now being coated with freezing rain.
Mary

Morning Gals!
It's freakin' cold here. 36 degrees, but the wind has died down and the sun is out. It's only January and I'm already longing for spring.
Mary ... Do you have to make up the snow days by staying longer in the summer? Glad your daughter got home safely. I have a dear friend who just lost her 20 year old son to a car accident involving black ice. My heart just breaks for her. The ice was really treacherous when I lived in Iowa one winter. Worst I've ever seen.
Rosemary ... Sounds like you were very busy to me. I consider it an accomplishment to get the bathroom cleaned and the laundry in the dryer. Getting it folded is a whole another ball game.
Barbara ... I wish I was in Florida with you. Although Tim is halfway to Orlando right now and he said the temp was around 50. I envy your winters!
Hope everyone has a great day,
hugs,
Bren

My brother posted a pic on Facebook that looked very much like Mary's earlier. Stay warm girls.
Very humid here yesterday, no rain for relief. I can't believe it's Friday already, just goes to show you how having something to actually do at work makes the time fly. We had another meeting yesterday to reinvent yet another wheel - ridiculous.
-
Wow, Mary! 3monst, how is it in Seattle?
-
I was busy yesterday morning but I only worked for about 3 hours and then I pooped out.
It has stopped snowing but it is still blowing. It is supposed to be very cold for a few days and then back up into the forties. It is a crazy winter but what can you do?
-
Still snowing here in Shoreline(north of Seattle). I have about 8 inches in my backyard right now. They keep forecasting that it will turn to rain, but not yet. Only about 29 degrees here. I'm going a little stir crazy. I did get out for a walk to Starbucks today. I don't see how we're going to have school tomorrow. The roads have not been cleared at all.
I made oatmeal prune cookies. I was out of raisins. I cut the prunes up small like raisins, and I'll bet if I didn't tell you, you wouldn't know the difference. Now, who's going to eat them all?
Bren-we have 3 built in snow days, but as of today, they're all used up. After this, we go into the summer.
Mary
-
Holy moly, 8 inches! That is a LOT for WA. Just dropping by to say morning. Insomnia again. Only one more day of the hated job then two days of bliss. Aaaah.
-
Mary - as Barbara said, that IS a whale of a lot of snow for you guys!!!!!
Having a bit of a giggle reading Bren's post - ah, for the warmth of 38 degrees

It's below zero here now ( 9 am) can't tell exactly, too cold to keep the door open long enough to read exact number. Will warm up tomorrow, when we expect about 5 inches more snow. IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL - sunrise, reflections of sun on ice coated fields of snow, look as if someone very artistic sprinkled diamonds all over the field. Crows are walking about looking for the the fruits that's dropped from the sickle pear tree - and watching them slide about is fun....speaking of fun, a friend sent me this little video and I LOVE it...
Happy Snow....http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8402389/crow-filmed-using-lid-as-snowboard

Ahhhhhhhhh...spoken by the eyes of a true artist, Sunflower.
-
I admire artistic people in much the same way I admire linguistic talents. It's just another foreign language to me, but beautiful to see/hear it all the same. :-)
I heard that some serconvatives are targeting the current Mrs. Grinch for being a mistress. But it's okay for Mr. Grinch to have a mistress? The laughs just keep on a-comin'. Meanwhile, Mr. Money keeps fighting the release of his tax returns...... stay tuned!
-
Slowly returning to normal here. School is closed yet again, and I still can't get my car on the road, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Temps are warming up and things are melting. I hate the transition from snow to slush and mud-so ugly after being so pretty. I think I'm going to walk to the bank today, just to get out, and to check the roads away from my neighborhood.
As far as the election goes, I don't know whether to wish for an honorable, worthy opponent, or to be happy that they seem to be a group of buffoons.
Mary
-
Mary, that's our typical transition - glorious snow, melty temps, icky mud, piles of salt-and-dirt-encrusted snow, then just plain gray uck. No snow for us yet this year but we're supposed to have freezing rain tomorrow. Yay...ay....ugh.
I'd like to see an honorable, worthy opponent. I know they're out there, hiding from the ultra-right storm-troopers. We should check storm cellars and find us one.
-
Oh wait! Now we're supposed to get snow tonight! YAY!
-
Greetings!
Well we did get our snow and I got two whole days off from work!!! yipppeeeeee!!!! it was LOVELY--even though I still woke up at 5:30 on autopilot to check email and see if we were off. I ate, I read, I cooked, I watched the monsters sledding. I did NOT go to the store, not once, I sent them. Lazy lazy lazy me. Yesterday it was supposed to get warm but never ventured above 29 degrees. Today it is decidedly warmer but not enough to fully melt things which means tonight will be wretched as will my commute if the temperature starts to drop.
yes, Seattle does suffer when it snows but what do you expect from such a hilly city? Much like San Francisco--Not made for snow. I lived in Cleveland for 5 years--much of Cleveland is flat as a pancake and those hills that do exist are avoided in winter. Plus they always know they will get snow while in Seattle it is completely hit or miss.
DH and I headed out by public transport to get my mother to her chemo today--our car is iced in until the thaw. Fortunately her nursing home is in the area where there are three hospitals so many of the roads were pretty good and the nursing home driver was able to transport us the 3 blocks. Good thing as we could not get a taxi, despite calling the night before and all morning. Anyrate we get her to chemo and while she is sitting there, she decides to launch into a loud philosophical pontification on death and how she doesn't mind dying and her beliefs on the subject in general. And mind you, the not minding dying part is crap as after all her complaints about chemo the oncologist gave her the option of stopping and turning in her cards, so to speak, and all of the sudden she is up to doing chemo some more. Finally DH stuck his head in her face and said loudly in her ear that he wasn't sure the rest of the patients in chemo were interested in her feelings on the subject of death to which she said oh.
The urge to yell to the rest of the people getting chemo that she is a nut job and they should ignore her cannot be underestimated........
-
Oh 3monstas...I feel for you.
More snow here . They can't decide if we'll have 2-4 inches or 3-6 inches or 6-8 inches. All I know is that it is snowing and cold. It warmed up to 19 today and now is going down. The cold air makes me cough and I think I pulled a muscle coughing. It hurts when I cough and now it hurts when I move. I am very grumpy and ready to go out and get a big glass of wine. Good thing both cars have all wheel drive.
-
No cheese with my whine thank you. Sorry I'm such a big baby.
-
Rosemary-B no no no , you have it wrong---get the big box o' wine and stay home....no driving...driving is what makes the weather blechy!
or go for the hot drink---warm some cider and toss into a mug with a shot of rum, a teaspoon of brown sugar and a pat of butter.....good for what ails you!
-
OMG Rosemary you're NOT a baby! (((ROSEMARY))) You want to see a big baby? Watch The Grinch whine about the press and questions about his marriage - that's a whiney baby!
-
From our perspective you guys don't have much in the way of candidates - you need a shining star

Just showered and had to sit in front of the fan to dry up the sweat - I really envy your snow. I'm dillydallying this morning so I can go to the libary. DH off to golf, so no hurry to get home and feed him lunch. I cooked him scrambled eggs, bacon and tomato for brekky, so that should keep him going.
Catch you later girls - shopping to do - sigh

Susie, this is for your DH,
Ted and Nancy met on a cruise and he fell head over heels in love with her.
When they discovered they lived in the same city only a few miles apart Ted was ecstatic. He immediately started asking her out when they got home.
Within a couple of weeks, Ted had taken Nancy to dance clubs, restaurants, concerts, movies, and museums. Ted became convinced that Nancy was indeed his soul mate and true love. Every date seemed better than the last.
On the one-month anniversary of their first dinner on the cruise ship, Ted took Nancy to a fine restaurant. While having cocktails and waiting for their salad, Ted said,
"I guess you can tell I'm very much in love with you. I'd like a little serious talk before our relationship continues to the next stage. So, before I get a box out of my jacket and ask you a life changing question, it's only fair to warn you, I'm a total golf nut. I play golf, I read about golf, I watch golf on TV. In short, I eat, sleep, and breathe golf. If that's going to be a problem for us, you'd better say so now!"
Nancy took a deep breath and responded, "Ted, that certainly won't be a problem. I love you as you are and I love golf too; but, since we're being totally honest with each other, you need to know that for the last five years I've been a hooker."
Ted said, "I bet it's because you're not keeping your wrists straight when you hit the ball."

Cute Cherryl
We are home. DH drove. I feel better but might take codiene cough medicine tonight. As my kids say...if it's not one thing it's your mother.(Right 3monstas?)
