you know my middle monster would probably be fascinated by such photos. . . .she's the one who had to be given a mirror so she could watch them put the stitches in her own tongue. . while I worked VERY hard at not tossing my breakfast. . . .did I mention she was five at the time?
Congrats Rosemary!
Sue I hear you on the certificate for shopping in Paris but that would have had to come with an airline ticket and alas, that won't be in the works for a while. A family of five taking two trips to France in a year--even with large hunks of one trip paid for by someone else--sure does a number on the finances. If only DH were more successful in his choice of lottery tickets!
Anyrate, I had a blast shopping---including a new emile henry pie plate and set of 4 soufflee thingees in a lovely shade of blue and a scary sharp Wusthoff 9" chefs knife --and only went over by a little bit. . . . .well a small bit . . . well not by too much. . . . -
Susie
That sounds like a wonderful shopping trip. I am home today. It is my regular day off and I am catching up from the holidays and from having had a cold and bronchitis since the 22nd.
This afternoon I go to the dentist. I have such an exciting life.
-
Monstamom ... Your shopping trip sounds wonderful. You got a lot of great things for your gift certificate!
Rosemary ... So glad the results were benign. Good luck at the dentist today. My big expedition out into the world today was dropping by the walmart pharmacy. My life is really exciting too ... I might really get wild and walk the dogs today!
Blue ... Hope you're feeling better.
Hugs to all,
Bren

Back to work today for me - we are about to have a heat wave, so I'll be glad of being in the office and getting away from the SIL.
The pool people fixed the cracked fitting yesterday, it was nice of them to squeeze me in. I had a nice lunch with my bc friend. When I saw her I immediately said "I hate you" - all of her chemo curls are gone - not fair. Mine seem to be worse. Hopefully growing it will drag some out but the interim is hard to put up with. I started telling her all about our trip to the UK and Paris and was nearly late home for Steve to use my car. I want to go back and spend more time in France but sadly our lottery ticket at work didn't win us the big money.
Poppy is glad to be home and has been sleeping on the bed with us for the last 2 nights - I think she missed us.
Hope you are all well and not too cold over there.

Barb, I was coughing up my lungs but I think the spleen made it. hehehehhe! This is a nasty one!
-
Bren, did you get my pm?
-
Blue - hope you get better soon

-
Blue
Get well soon. I hoped you would be getting better by now.
-
Blue .. Sorry I haven't responded. I got your PM and forwarded the information. We miss you!
Hope you're doing better this evening.
love ya,
Bren
-
good morning all especially Blue.
No more coughing up lungs, okay??? way way way too messy.
Glorious beautiful morning here--so sad to be stuck inside. Here's hoping it will still be nice this afternoon when I go visit my oncologist to talk what next now that I've ditched the ovaries. With my luck, it will be raining.
On the bright side, I cleverly scheduled my appointment so I get to go to my knitting support group....
-
3mom, a knitting support group! I love it. I belong to two myself.
-
Not a happy camper here - Steve took my car yesterday and someone was supposed to pick me up from the bus stop. I called and no one answered the phone - SIL heard it but thought they weren't allowed to answer it - WTF??? So I had to walk home from the bus and was crying because my knees hurt so much. It's not far really but a bit too far for me with such crappy knees. Our daughter said she thought her Dad was supposed to pick me up, well how could he if he wasn't home. I've got a good mind to take my car this morning and Steve can have his car and the 2 visitors can catch buses or trains if they want to go anywhere. It's our daughter's 33rd birthday today - she's going out with friends tonight and we'll take her out tomorrow night for dinner.

hey susie, many many hugs....thats rough.
I see NOTHING at all wrong with leaving the guests carless--they are big people--let them rent, walk or take public transport.
-
Susie
I agree. Big people can find their own transportation.
Maybe it's just my kids but they seem to revert from responsible adults to children when they are at my house.
-
Rosemary - Yeah, boring. 10 years - that's fantastic.
Blue - family parts album still has me giggling. I asked the surgeon after she removed my gallbladder about 4 years ago, after I passed gallstones during chemotherapy - yuck - if I could have some of the gallstones. Thinking they'd be crystal like thingies - she groaned & said no, they wer like pieces of poo ;( more yuck. For some reason, I still have all the old mammography pics.
A some day craft project, speaking of parts - b4 I thrw outall my old Olga Minimizer Underwire bras, I cut out the wires! Thinking, theyd be neat painted, and made into a mobile! With crystals hanging here & there. It's in the Pile of Maybe Someday Projects.
Somebody mentioned knitting. I just tore out a half finished sweater I hadn't touched in about 4 years, and now planning to knit something very plain. Looking for a very simple worsted wool cardigan ( no raglan sleeves) - there's something SO hard about picking up and restarting an old sweater, esp. as this was a complicated pattern. I just love knitting. So wanted to give myself a chance to use this wool, and start something new.
-
I did take my car - I asked and they had no plans, so I suggested they go for a bike ride and then rest ready for the night out

I did wish my daughter a happy birthday. It would have been such a nice visit with her if dhead wasn't here too - oh well.

Sunflowers
I have a basket of "cool stuff" that I thought would make good craft projects and there it sits. I am making a pair of mittens out of a felted sweater, with lots of embroidery. I think embroidery is the craft I like best but one of my goals for this year( not resolutions) is to learn to knit better.
-
Agree with 'let them rent' . Sunflowers how cool you will do the underwire craft project. Pix when you do it!
-
I haven't knitted for ages but was very capable when I did. I got stuck on cross stitch - totally love it, but haven't got room for more wall things. I'm now trying to make smaller things - like pin cushions. I did get a great knitting book not long ago with really cute wee teddies in it - that's going to be my next project - one for each grand baby.
-
Susie
My family is inflicted with my sewing and crafts as I have run out of wall space. I think crafting is very healing. It at least keeps my mind of fof health problems.
-
Sunflowers, knitting pattern central.com has tons of free knitting patterns. You have to register for a few,but the majority you can just download at will.
I'm finishing up a sweater that is knitted from the top in one piece. No Seams!!!!!
Happy knitting!!!!
-
Cross stitch suits my computer programmer mind - you start with a blank canvas and have to be extremely accurate or you're stuffed. All of the counting is fun
I've got 2 I haven't had framed yet and another big one (the last one ever) on the go. I've just been doing some wee ones I bought in Scotland - a pin cushion, a needle book and a scissor holder - all with thistles on - they're really lovely.I also do patchwork, crochet, applique and sewing but don't really have the time anymore. Cross stitch is good cos I can do it while watching tv.
-
I bought myself a dressform for Christmas so I must get back into garment sewing. I enjoy it but it is time consuming to do it right. I have a lot of plans. We'll see what gets done.
I like sewing embrodery card making and finding interesting ways to reuse things. Felting (fulling) wool is fun but I have a lot of felted sweaters and fabric that needs to be made into something. I have made baby shoes mittens purses and little zipper bags.
-
I don't sew anymore because it is so much cheaper to buy things ready made these days. Mum was a professional dressmaker and she still sews for others. She made DD a maternity dress the other day, but DD is not sure she likes the fabric. My Aunt was a tailor - you should see her embroidery - the back looks like the front - mine's not that good.
-
I like to line or frame my embroidery. Then you can't see the back. This from a woman whose grandmother said the back should look as good as the front!
-
OMG, y'all are talking my language. Last week I only had 27 sewing machines - went to the antique auction - and you guessed it - bought another one! (It is a treadle, rotary, in a parlor cabinet - really a beaut!). And got a new, updated, modern dress form - my old one is from the 1940's.
-
Wow Scuttlers - that's a lot. I only have one, however, it is a Bernina - the best I think.
-
28 sewing machines?!??!!! I am so over apologizing for my yarn stash now. Wow. I'm impressed.
-
I crochet - I prefer thread and little steel crochet hooks. I'd love to knit, but I can't get the tension right. The stitches are either so tight, I can't get them off the needles, or so loose, they go flying off the needles! LOL
I got a knitting loom for Christmas; big enough to make a blanket! And I got a wild idea to combine that with another project - crocheting cloth strips. So I bought a strip cutter and am in the process of cutting strips to loop join together to use as the yarn in the knitting loom. This project may take a while!
-
well something I can comment on,if you need a crocheted chain I could make that, maybe start a "CHAIN letter" send it along to someone to continue and on and on so we all are represented on a chain for posterity and maybe get it in the book of Guinness as a cancer chain. Just took my sleeping pill, so it may be a dumb idea=========kad2kar
