You ladies move from topic to topic and I never know what is going to be next.
Sewing - I still take my things to my mom to help me.
She is wondering when I am going to learn...
-
I remember when I was 8 years old, my mother had a factory machine and someone came to the house and heard the machine and thought Mum was sewing - it was me - I was using it without her knowledge, making pyjamas for a teddy bear. I think sometimes it's just born in us. My daughter sews too but she is messy. I remember fixing a costume she was making for something or other - what a mess - she doesn't neaten the edges most of the time. Maybe she has improved now, I haven't been game to examine anything she's made.
-
I'm with Ang, I take my stuff to Mom to mend. In fact, I don't think I even have a needle in my house. When Mom passes, I guess Goodwill will get the stuff.
-
My mom was a professional seamstress and taught me everything she knows including "french seams". I used to sew all the time. NOT anymore................bloody hell! Mr. Parkinson's takes and takes!
-
Hey everyone!
I hope you all had relatively good holidays, crappy weather, sinus infections, bronchitis, kidney/bladder/urinary tract issues notwithstanding. To all of you suffering from ailments, hugest hugs, homemade chicken soup, and a blanket of healthy vibes. Blue, no more organ-expelling coughs! Please get better!
For everyone with family and continuing cancer issues, I don't know what to say other than to send love. We're fortunate to have such a vast support system here, on these boards, and on this thread in particular. I don't know what I'd do without you guys.
Regarding knitting, my daughter's recently been bitten by the knitting bug and got a whole bunch of knitting-related items for Christmas. I actually made a "knitting needle cozy" for her out of one of my old fleece shirts. It's structured like a jewelry roll and trimmed with miles of hand-stitched ribbon and felt flowers. I am NOT a sew-person ("sewer" didn't look right! hahaha) but it actually turned out pretty well. Turns out I could have bought the silly thing for $11 instead of spending 20 hours on tiny stitches. :-) Did I already post this? Can't remember.
Anyway....she does quality work and hopes to sell a bunch of stuff on Etsy at the beginning of next winter. Place your orders now! ;-)
Enjoyous, soon to be "Scootaloo"

Sunflowers and anyone else:
if you are looking for patterns--free and otherwise--you need to check out Ravelry.com the very very best place. Tons of patterns and lots of reviews so you can evaluate whether you really like the pattern or not.
Knitting is good. It de-stresses me when I can't cook. Unfortunately no one in my immediate family has any interest in handknits so my recent options were pretty much making stuff for me or making stuff for charity and most charity stuff doesn't want fancy yarn etc. Then I discovered Swapping!!!! Now I can make something for someone else and they actually appreciate it as opposed to hiding it under their bed or tossing it in the wash to shrink! I did four swaps last year and had a blast.
Never tried cross stitch, never sewed worth a damn though I own my grandmother's old peddle machine and would love to try using it for basic stuff. Alas! its in the hoard house not to be found for who knows how long. Long ago I embroidered up a storm but having picked up the stuff in years.
enjoyous shame on you!
so you could have bought her a needle case--not nearly as nice as having one her mom made for her. My MIL made me a knitting needle cozy for Christmas for my double points. It is ever so much more special that she took the time to make it for me.Even as I type my mother is at her oncologist appt with godbrother and DH. We shall see what comes of it. I did not go--every time I spoke with her on the phone she was nasty to me and kept harping on wanting my god brother there. I guess I got one too many "you aren't being my advocate"---because mind you, I did awful things like wouldn't tell the nursing staff at the skilled care place that she should do what she liked about her pills and wouldn't agree to tell her oncologist his business--and just thought what is the point--- Whatever the onco says, if I tell her he said it, she won't do it so really my going is more harmful than helpful. Besdies, godbrother was off from work today and willing to come over and I would have had to take leave. . . .sigh......
off to dream of knitting something, well actually off to get some work done. So behind from all the crap going on...

Having lunch with DH today at yummy italian place. can't wait!!!
-
28 sewing machines! I'm for ever guilt free about all my yarn, paints, pastels, STUFF - oh, joy. Being guilt free. THANK YOU scutters ;-)
Thanks SO much for the references to the web sites for patterns - I'm going to check them now!!!

Morning girls - Steve said last night he wants our house back - only 3 days to go and they go home. I'm upset because I think if Annie was here by herself we would have had a much nicer time - SIL is getting in the way of me being close to her. We're taking them out to dinner tonight as it was her birthday yesterday.
They ended up catching the bus into the city yesterday and came and found me where I have my lunch. Busker Tim wasn't there yesterday, so I told them where he busks for the rest of the week. They saw him and thought he was great. It's too hot for him to busk outside my work at the moment and they've fenced off the park again to fix up the mess the occupiers made of the grass.
I found out which project I'll be working on this year - a much better one than they had originally put me on. It will involve me moving back upstairs, but that's OK. The other people on it are nice.
Have a great weekend!!!

Well, it's Friday evening and I have two choices: 1. Go watch HGTV and 2. Go drive 65 miles one way to see DH's band. The driving part has me leaning toward 1 but two friends of mine live up that way and are going. Sheesh. What to do.
-
lunch was ever so yummy........farfalle with pea pods and some kind of salami and some kind of appetizer and a glass of white wine for me, only thing different for DH was his choice of pasta (sunchoke ravioli, tremendously good which I know because I begged and he let me taste one). then we walked around and picked up a bottle of wine (type we had at our wedding) and even held hands.
In Other Words, Ladies! I Had A Date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and now back to reality which is relatively good. They are reducing my mother's chemo and giving it to her every week instead of every three weeks. DH says the doctor et al said they were really surprised by how poorly she reacted--he bit his cheek not telling the doctor how she did NOT walk and she did NOT eat and she did NOT drink per his instruction.
DH figures the nurse probably passed on DH's earlier statements to the doctor. Think she may just stay in the skilled nursing for the chemo treatment. Makes a lot of sense---if she is there, they will make her eat and drink and the PT guy will make her walk. . . . .
DH will be taking her to her treatment each week and then walking down the hill to have lunch with me every Friday!!!! OMG, date lunch ever week?!?!?! i shall faint!!!
Happy Friday and have a great weekend to all!
eta Barbara, i am so lazy. I would sit home and watch HGTV unless I could persuade friends to do the driving. . . .

Ok - just told DD that SIL is a dipstick !!! I'm a bit pissed
(slightly inebriated) as we just got home from taking them out to dinner for her birthday - a few too many wines
.. I told her I don't like the way he spoke to her when we were away and she should stand up for herself. I also said I can't understand how she puts up with him. She agrees he doesn't know how to behave.- I told her to teach him. What an f-whit!!!!!!!Dinner was excellent - the best calamari I have had ever!!! I tend to have calamari when we got out as it is something I don't cook at home. This restaurant was one we used to go to 10 years ago - he has reopened near us about 8 weeks ago. We were pleasantly surprised to see our favourite waiter still working for the chef. His name is Bikash and he comes from Nepal and he remembered us. The chef also remembered us - down right wonderful. I told Steve we have to go there every payday. His steak was impressive - eye fillet with a pomegranate sauce.
Will talk to you when I've sobered up
tomorrow.Slightly Pissed Susie

-
Dipstick has gone out with a friend of Annie's for a boy's night out - better not make a noise when he gets home........... Only 2 more days!!!
Just realised we haven't heard from Athena for a while - where are you Sweetie?????
-
Still up - 11:15pm - got to wait for food to settle - shouldn't have had the sticky date pudding
YUMMM!!! -
Yum is right, Susie, sticky date pudding sounds divine! Worth a late night for sure. 3Monst, how cool you will have a date every week! Joining in with Susie...miss you Athena!
E meant to tell you I was glad to see your post, missed you, too.
-
I'm still up - must go to bed right now. Still feel quite pissed - naughty girl
Life is for enjoying everything even wine
It was good to hear from E. -
E
Scootaloo? What the who?
-
Googaloo it, Rosemary! :-)
-
E, OMG!

I had the most frustratrating afternoon yesterday. I bought kids toys and clothes on clearace. I reached in my purse for my wallet and it wans't there. I ran out to the car thinking evil toughts about the woman standing next to me in the toy department. Unbeknowst to me when my purse had fallen off the car seat, into my tote bag for work, the wallet had fallen into my tote bag for work. Onetrashed car and dumped totebag later I found it went in and paid. Then I returned the slippers my mother-in-law gave me for Christmas and the store had only ugly slippers. Then I went to the pharmacy and you guessed it...They did not have my prescription. I got home, we went out to eat. I had a burger and the best fries I have had in ages and a big glass of wine and felt much better
Then we fed the cats. They had goose liver pate cat food with fish eggs. So I had a burger and Baxter had caviar and pate. Bobba didn't eat. I am worried about her again.
Now I must get dressed and see what the Farmer's Market has. I have not been there since fall and I am intrigued by what they will have in Michigan In January, although it is supposed to be 40 today.
-
Okay E. Are you trying a new medication? Getting a tattoo? Or is this a cry for help?
;-)
-
Neither, Rosemary. Just an homage to past friends and fancy.
-
LMAO
-
ROFLMAO
-
I expected something different from a combination of scoot and loo

-
So DH brought home shrimp and catfish(fresh) for the cats. Hrmmph! I think I'll pu my plate on the floor next to their bowls and see what happens.
I got ground beef chicken thighs garlic onions cranberries and feta from a local cheese maker at the Farmer's Market. My meat guy had smoked chicken. It was intriguing but I am not one for smoked meat. I just wish they didn't just take cash. I ran out.
-
SIL got home at 5 am!!! At least he didn't make too much noise. I'm up already because as soon as the birds start making a racket I can't sleep.
Rosemary - lucky you found your purse - it would have been scary if it had been stolen. My new handbag has a zipped compartment in the middle and that's where mine stays with the zip done up. Most stalls in our farmers markets take cards - very handy if you have no cash.
It's supposed to be 32 celcius today and 34 tomorrow - sounds like lying around in the pool will work. I do want to go back to the garden centre where I had lunch last week as I didn't get a chance to browse that day. They have gorgeous gifts and I need new secatures.
DD and SIL are supposed to be going out to meet up with an ex of hers and his wife. I told them I'll give them a lift and they can catch the bus home. I wonder if he'll wake up in time

-
Hey everybody 700 Pages AND that is in time out. You guys rock. I don't know a better bunch of women.
-
I agree Rosemary - love you all
-
Think this must be the longest "time-out" in history - just sayin'....
Sandy
-
Well, I'm Virgil's chorus. We've been honky tonkin all night long! Seriously, I'm a little better but this thing has put me out of commission. I haven't really read back. Love you guys!
