Hi Patty, we do not have anyone that far out there yet. You would be the first. Maybe some interest will spark up that way too. It would be awesome to see other areas in AZ connecting. I think it is important. that we are able to connect from all of AZ. May have to start other groups in other areas.  You never know anything is possible. I know that Omaz is from Tucson, Michelle is from Cottonwood so far distance goes.

We have talked about doing a Laughlin trip sometime in the future. Maybe next  year. i know that 6 of us BCO ladies here in AZ are going to Vegas this Sept 30 to Oct 2nd with the TaTa sisterhood reunion. We are looking forward to it. 4 of us went last year and had such a great time that we are returning for another weekend of fun. Maybe next year we can get more of Arizonian's to come.

ebann - now that I know the Ta Ta's Reunion is the last weekend in Sept, I will hopefully be able to plan for next years trip.   I had just planned a trip to Vegas this year when the dates were announced and could not justify 2 trips in one year...Have a GREAT time!

Hi everyone just a reminder that we are getting together at Olive Garden at Metrocenter. Saturday  August 27th at 1pm.

Just send me a for sure pm or here to let me know you are coming. Need to call Olive Garden by Thursday to give them the count so they are able to reserve us a room or tables depending on the size.

Meek thank you. I am doing pretty good. I usuallly do chemo on Wednesday and for some reason the se's hit the day after. When I did chemo before it would hit me 2 to 3 days later. My blood count has been low so that has caused me to be weak. I am staying busy though by going to the gym and riding the bike for 15 min and doing some exercises in the pool. This helps to give me some engery which is needed. I find if I do not feel good and go to the gym I do feel better. Thanks for inquiring. I hope you are doing well too.

I am ready for reconstruction and am considering Dr. Gawley or Dr. Kalnoki-Kis. Can you give me more feedback on Dr. Gawley or Dr. K?  Do you know anyone who has used him/her for reconstruction following a lumpectomy with radiation?  I am 8 months out and am just starting to get more comfortable with my diagnosis and am ready for the next step.

I heard Dr. Northfelt was an awesome oncologist at Mayo. I didn't like the way head surgeon at Mayo treated me and didn't end up staying there because of her but heard only great things about Northfelt.  I am using Dr. Polowy now, he has an office in Gilbert and Mesa and I love him, he is the most caring individual I know not alone doctor!  I interviewed several before I found him.

What did you think of Dr. Gawley, were you thinking about not using him for a reason?

Hi all!  I am finally home, exhausted after taking two teens shopping in one mall, several strip malls and the outlet stores in Anthem!  Thankfully they did not ask for much and we stuck to the really NEED not really WANT items.   They can be very thrifty when they want to :)

I had such a lovely time and will really try to make one of the next few events.   Next time I am leaving the rug rats at home though :)

Ebann - Thank you so much for putting these events together...I will do some research on eateries in the Sedona/Verde Valley just in case the Sedona trip works out...

Teena - thank you so much for the goody bags!  My DD, sister and I had a mini pedicures last night with the new polish and lotions :)

Karen & Jill - it was so nice to finally meet in person!  I will always remember those first few months after dx and your posts of encouragement! You are such beautiful ladies, both inside and out!

Meiko, Nicole, Joy, Sue, and Melody it was such a pleasure meeting you all!

Have a GREAT night and wonderful week!

Michelle thanks for checking on that for me. I am curious what wonderful places you will find. It was nice seeing you and meeting your children as well. Glad that you made it home safely.

Time for the month of September Meet up

We are going to get Pedicures and Manicures.  Joy is supplying the appetizers & wine. For Pedicures it is $16 to $18 & $5 for the pink ribbon on your toe. Then there are manicures and those are $15 We need to get a count of how many will be attending before we set it up with them. For those going to Vegas we thought this would be neat to do & even those who do not it is just nice getting together.

We are looking at September 25th which is a Sunday time TBD. Location is in Chandler on Chandler  Blvd & Dobson Rd. So we will be on the Southeast side.

So can everyone shoot me an a Pm or here to let me know if you will be able to make this.   Remember we can always carpool.

    Elizabeth

Remember also if you come into contact with anyone who has experienced breast cancer to invite them to one of our meet ups. Celebrating 3 years in December.

I see Dr. Polowy as well. I switched to him after not really being impressed with Ironwood. I really like Polowy...I have a friend who sees him as well and loves him. He is very attentive and I am sooo glad that I switched.

It was great to meet everyone last week...I am glad I finally decided that I "needed" to meet people in the same boat as me. I am definitely up for meeting up again...I won't be able to make the Sept. nail party...as I will be vegging on the beach in San Diego solo...watching the waves crash... :) I so need that!

Nicole it was wonderful meeting you as well. It is important to be around others that understand what you have been though. It makes a big difference. I would take vegging on the beach over a pedi any day. Have a wonderful time. Remember when you get back to tell us all about it. We will be anxiously waiting for a reply.

    Hi

I just found this thread.  I live in Tempe and would love to join meetings.  What is date of nail event?

Also, from what I've heard Dr Gawley is really good.  I couldn't use because he didn't have privileges at hospital where my bs practices.

    Thank you all :)

I just learned last Friday that it's going to cost me $55 for every chemo and radiation treatment, which right now is recommended to be at least 40 visits.  This is because the chemo pods and radiation treatments are located in Doctors' offices.  If they were in a hospital or facility I would not have to pay a co-pay unless I also had a visit with the doctor.  I live in Scottsdale and I'm wondering if anyone knows of facilities that provide these services that are not located in a Doctor's office?  Also, obviously considering recommendations of Med Onc that you like.  Thanks!

OUCH!!!!!  That is a lot of money, good grief!

there are many locations around the valley the provide chemo in a clinic environment, I am not quite sure about where to get rads as I didnt have to get that.  I am sure some of the other ladies will chim in with Rad info.

Check out Ironwood Cancer Center and also The Mayo Clinic on Shea but if you want to have it done in the hospital, the Mayo Hospital on 56th and the 101 also has a chemo center....so it should work out for you either one you choose.

I went to Shea for the majority of all of my chemo injections and it became my preference, the nurses there are extremely attentive and I would recommend them to all.

I also went to Ironwood before I found Mayo.

My Med Onc is Dr. Northfelt at Mayo, he is awesome, I luvs luvs luvs him.  Very attentive, caring, concerned, knowledgeable, patient and reliable.

Good luck............PM me if you need more info
