Welcome Cindy, glad to know that you have joined us. You do not live far from me. I live on 43rd Ave and Union Hills. Sounds like you are on your way to getting all better. These things take time and it is seems like we all go through our roller coaster of stuff. This is normal. I am glad to know you do not have to do chemo. What a relief that must be. Like Karen said this is a great group of ladies. I am the coordinatore and our next get together will be Dec 17th for the ornament exchange.I will be sending details soon.
Meeko I am hanging in there going to get my PET scan tomorrow. I am happy to get this part over with so that I can know if the chemo is working or not. I just want to know. Sounds like you are real busy. I am sure things will slow down soon enough. Cherish these moments while you can. Someday he will leave home and it just will not be the same. Keep that hair growing LOL.
Donna, I will make sure that Jill will contact you.
Have a good week ladies. Elizabeth

Curious to see what others here may have in Vitamin D levels. Just received blood work done and pleased it is 55. A year ago, prior to moving to AZ,after chemo, it was 48. Prior to BC..in single digits!!!Anyone checking in on theirs latley? Wonder if living in a more sunny climate is helping! The say 100 ia top level for this test, and under 30 not good.
However, , my cholestral and insulin levels are poor.Have had a issue with my bad cholestral LDL for some time and just don;t want to go on the meds. STOPPING desserts and my sugar stuff that is considered more refined sugar, and I knew this was always bad but never thought I did alot??..Say I am pre diabetic. The thing is BOTH insulin and Vit D levels are so impt to keep at the right levels as they are markers to consider for cancer. I am thin, cannot gain much. so I would eat anything if it was sweet and the rest I ate pretty healthy..now it is really healthy and really kind of boring!!!!See in three months if this will improve with blood work.
Thanks Elizabeth re Jill etc!!!
Have a great weekend all and get some good Vit D!!lol

Donna, I do have low Vitamin D and have increased over time taking Vitamin D and spending about 15 min out in the sun sometimes less depending on the time of year. I have heard that low Vitamin D is linked to breast cancer. It is amazing how many women I do know with breast cancer and that their Vitamin D is low.
My husband was pre diabetic for 20 years. He was just dx with diabetes a month ago. It has been a challenge for him adjusting to the meds and new way of eating. I do my best not to eat suger even artifical sweetners. Sugar is toxic and loves cancer. But what doesn't love cancer now a days.
I saw Jill today and she said she send you information on that Dr. she sees in Tucson. So I hope that you check out a few oncologist before you decide on one. That is important you need to be happy with your decision and team of Dr.'s.
Sorry it has taken me awhile to write.
Mieko I am doing good thank you so much for asking.
In fact everyone I am so good that I went in for my PET scan last Friday got my results in and the chemo is responding well. God is good he directed me in the right direction and gave me Dr.'s with the knowledge I need.

Hi There Ladies,
It is that time of year again. It was 3 years ago and one month that we meet for the ornament exchange. I am so happy that the group is still growing strong. I have meet a lot of wonderful women and only pray that it will continue to bring the love and support of this group. How the ornament exchange works is that we get a ornament along with the wrapping choice for all under $10. We will put the bags on the table and I will place numbers on them and then we will draw a number and see which one you will get. We will not be trading or taking away our special gift we received. I want to thank Joy who was going to have it at her place. We had to change it because of allergies to animals. So out of respect and consideration we have planned it at the Old Spaghetti Factory where we have had it for the last 2 years and then Jill had offered her place last year it was so awesome to go to her home. Really had a nice time. The Old Spaghetti Factory will be sitting us in a private room. I have already made these reservations in advance. If you are able to carpool that is great. I do encourage that. We welcome all the new ladies and hope that you will be able to join us during this special time.
Location:
Old Spaghetti Factory 1418 N. Central Ave. Phoenix, AZ
Reservations under Elizabeth Fugate
Date: Saturday December 17th
Time: 6 PM
I will send you out a couple of reminder as the time gets closer
SNOW MANY FRIENDS!!

-

Hope you will be able to make it to the Ornament Exchange. It is fun and the women are awesome.
-
Thanks ebann for your recommendation. My mom saw Dr. Zannis couple of days ago and she said he seems very nice. It is good to hear from someone else about the same doctor.
I would love to be there for the Ornament Exchange. Thank you for planning for it.
-
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! Remember to confirm your reservations with me for the ornament exchange. I have a table reserved for 12 so far 6 are going. So we need 6 more or even more is good with me. Hope to see you soon.
A!B! looking forward to meeting you at the ornament exchange. Have you gone to see Dr. Walker or Dr. Zannis yet?
-
Hi ebann,
Ya, ahe saw him and is going to have her surgery today, we hope everything goes good.
Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to make it to the event on the 16th. With momy's condition I decided to drive my car from sacrament to Arizona after finishing my classes on Friday, so I would be able to drive her around during my 3 weeks break. But my thoughts would be there with you guys. -
Hi A1B!, I hope that your mother's surgery went well. I am glad she went with Dr. Zannis I have heard so many good things about him. I am sorry we do not get to meet. Maybe next year we will get an opportunity. Where is it that your mother lives? I live in Glendale off the I-17 and Union Hills Rd. Hope your Thanksgiving was good. If I do not hear from you have a blessed Christmas.
-
Hi ebann, she is doing good. Next step is radiation and possibly chemo! How funny, my mom lives in Glendale as well, she lives off the 101 east and 59th Ave. I am very sorry that I can not make it. Hopefully next time. I wish you and your loved ones a very merry Christmas.

Hello Everyone
I just started on this thread and it looks like you have a wonderful support group here in AZ. I live in Phoenix (75th ave and Peoria) and would love to come to this years ornament exchange. I'm still waiting to find out when my surgery is but hopefully it won't conflict with getting together with you. I've been posting in another thread for a few months, ever since I found out I had BC it's called (Bone Cancer...Now This?) and I've been able to get a lot of support there but I would really like to find a "sister" close enough to me to be able to get together on a regular basis. I want to have someone near me that really knows what I'm going through because all of my current friends seem to look at me differently now. Apparently only strong, beautiful and wonderful people are able to get BC. lol Feel free to PM me if you are close to me or if you just need someone to talk to. I'm so excited at the prospect of getting together with everyone, so if I'm not in the hospital...I'll be there!
-
Hi Cindy, I am glad you found us. I live on Union Hills/43rd Ave. Not far from you at all. I hope that your surgery does not conflict with the ornament exchange either. It is fun and the ladies are great. You cannot help but love them. I know we can all relate. I have cancer in my bones too along with my liver, nodes, glands, lower back and neck. It is shown now to be 80% stable. This is my third diagnosis. There are some other ladies that are going through it again as well. I understand about friends and how different it is . We all have experienced that too. I hope we get to see you there. We love meeting new faces.

A recommendation for an oncologist?
Hi Arizona ladies. So my Mom had her surgery last week and yesterday we got some bad news that 1/3 lymph node is positive and she needs to consult with an oncologist and also her margin in still positive so she needs another surgery!
I am looking to find her an oncologist in Arizona area, Please either post here or PM me if you know of one in Arizona.
Thanks

I'm seeing Dr Amol N.S. Rakkar but I just started seeing him and don't know much about him. He is very nice and personable and makes sure you know what all your options are.PaloVerde Hemotology, Oncology he has 3 offices Phoenix-Glendale-Scottsdalethe # in Phx is 602-978-6255
-
I go to Dr. Sharon Ondreyco. She is a very straight forward woman and I love that about her. She knows her stuff. Voted best woman Dr in America, Top Doctors in Phoenix. She started Palo Verde 31 years ago. She was voted out of her own business. I went and followed her. Tried the Dr's at Palo Verde and did not care for them. Plus Dr. Ondreyco helped me get through IBC. So that is just a personal thing. You need to make that decision for yourself.
Cindy Rose looking forward to meeting you.
A1B1 hope that recommendation helps. 7200 Bell Rd. 623-487-3700

I am with the Mayo and really like the "one stop shopping" sort of atmosphere there. Not only that they have quite a good oncology staff.
-
Elizabeth: do your chemo treatments make you sick and if so for how long? My Dr said it shouldn't be too bad for me but they always downplay things so I'm a little worried.
-
Mayo is very good.I know several of the women who go there. That is what I love about Ondreyco everything is done in her office.
cindy rose- It really depends on the individual and what chemo you are doing. For me the first time I was dx it was a tough one. I did it for a year. This time it is going passed a year. Though I was on Abraxane/Avastin those were mild SE's. Now I am doing Carboplatin/Taxotere and I have done well. An upset stomach but I take ginger capsules and that really helps a lot. I know that I have had a difficult time being anemia. So I am really tired and it takes awhile to get things done. But being sick no. Usually if I do not feel good it take 2 to 3 days before the effects start happening. Hope that is helpful.
-
I have a friend who highly recommended Ondreyco when I first found out I had breast cancer.
-
Thanks Elizabeth, that makes me feel a little better, I guess I just have to wait and see what happens, but I'm hoping for the best. I'm glad that you don't have any major problems.
-
welcome cindy-rose,
you have found a great place for friendship and support. look forward to meeting you!
