I'm in Mesa but work in the Biltmore district. Anyone interested in meeting up?
BTW, I'm a 37 year survivor of just over 3 years
-
Hi ImShelle!
I'm not in the Phoenix area, but my Son lives there! He used to live in Mesa and now lives in Queen Creek..................we were out there in November and I would love to go back now, but realistically it will probably be October or November before we do.
There is a lady from your area........her name is Karen..but not spelled that way at all..I've talked to her numerous times in the past and we tried really hard to get together last Nov. but it didn't work out. She post mainly on the "NoSurrender" site..........I'll look her up for you and hopefully the two of you can meet!
Neesie

Thank you so much!!! If you'll be back later this year, I'd love to meet up
Shelle

Hugs, Karen

Hi Ladies,

Let's keep this thread alive and plan a get-together. I know at least one other Phoenician who posts here - AZsunn. We share a PS.
I live in Phoenix, work in Glendale. Finished chemo in July and had reconstruction surgery two weeks ago.
Love your signature quote, Teena. I'm an English teacher.
Okay, whoever feels like assuming the position of social planner, step up!
Sue

Hi Sue!
Good grief, I'm a terrible social planner...all I can ever think to do is go somewhere to eat. So I'd best leave that to those with a talent for it...!
Thanks about the quote...hopefully I'll remember to rotate it every once in a while to keep it fresh!
Love,
Teena

I am in Phoenix - live in Ahwatukee and work in East Valley. I am still in tx - had a lumpectomy in June, have my last chemo tx this Friday and will start rads in December followed by tamox. I am not a good social planner either but would love to meet up with everyone.

Hi ImShelle;
I live in Glendale AZ. I am a native of AZ. I was born and raised in Chandler, and moved from Chandler to Glendale 7 years ago. I had a radical mastectomy on 9/29 and start chemo and radiation tomorrow. I was dx in April 2008. Had completed chemo and found out I need to do more chemo along with rads. They start tomorrow. During surgery they found more cancer. I love to plan things. What does everyone like to do? Reasonable is in. Where is a in the middle meeting place? Coffee/Tea? I love to do tea parties, (have to wait till I am better) Ice Cream? getting cold right now. Walk around the mall? Good excerise and warm for the winter holidays. Go shopping this is the time of year. Take turns meeting at everyones home. We can rotate. (good excuse for cleaning) LOL Who likes to scrapbook? Who likes to paint? Go to a movie? (this can be later on after we have gotten to know each other) Places to eat, everyone loves to eat. Plus it is the holidays we can diet after. I get to wait a little longer my birthday is the 9th of Jan. LOL Sweet Tomato, Mimi's Cafe, heck McD's for iced coffee! Maybe you have a really great place to out and eat! So many varieties. Get everyones emails and set up evites for our monthly get togethers. Oh the list can go on. These are just some ideas. I look forward to meeting some you ladies. ImShelle this is a really great idea. Are you an event planner? Anyone else has some great ideas throw them out there. Just as long as we get to meet and talk and have fun.
Blessings; Elizabeth
GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN!

Hi everyone, This is so exciting and just what I need....I have been fighting the bc blues. I am 3 weeks post bilat mast, with expanders. I am not a social coordinator but if no one else has a knack for it, I will try, although Shelle, you sounded great!!!!! Sometimes a restaurant can be hard to talk to everyone, so lets make sure the setting is open for that kind of communication. I am happy to open my home up first....I live in Chandler tho and everyone may not want to go that far. I am open to anything, I just dont want to see this dwindle away. Lets get some ideas rolling!!!!!

Nessie sent me a PM and told me she is going to be in town. That she is not busy on Monday or Tuesday. The one thing I do have every morning at 10am is rads. So what do you say girls what are your schedules like and what time works best? I am open after 11am. It would be great to start it at Karen's home (KinAZ) I can bring different tea's, cream, & sugars. I will send information to Nessie about where it is going to be.
I think taking turns at everyones home is a great idea. It is private, we have the freedom to talk and enjoy one another company. Good food, and then we can plan certain activities every other month. What do you say?
PM me with your emails so I can send out an evite? Let's coordinate the time, place, and what to bring. (food, snack, beverage etc) Need to hear from.

I am happy to be the coordinator. This is one of my passions. I am not sure we will hear from ImShelle she has not been on since 6/11/08 if she does then great!
My email is ebann@cox.net or you can PM me in breastcancer.org

Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for taking this on! I know you just started tx - how's that going for you?
Unfortunately, I can't take a turn if we decide to meet in each other's homes. I have 3 very large dogs who aren't too friendly...but everything else sounds great! Maybe when it's my turn we can go out somewhere...?
Love,
Teena

Elizabeth, Thank you for being our official co-ordinator...
Everyone be sure to check your pm...I know alot of times I will just come to the sight and I dont always log in. Elizabeth has put together a wonderful questionnare.
Looking forward to meeting all of you,

Hi Everyone;
I am more than happy to be the coordinator. We all are really. Because we make decisions together that is how all this is really going to happen. I would like for us to meet this Monday since Tuesday is election day. I do hope that is okay. The reason why I made the choice for meeting this Monday is cause Neesie is coming to AZ to meet with her son this week and she would like to meetup with us. That is why I am coordinating this so early. I hope that Monday is okay with everyone. We just need a time. Got an email from Karen she is great in offering her home. Thank you so much Karen. Please PM me and let me know what day of the week is best for you. I know for me, I cannot meet on Wednesday night I have bible group, I cannot meet on Friday night cause it is our couples group. I am open to Tuesday, Thursday, and possible Saturday morning. We have one car and my husband runs the bookstore at the church. Sunday I go to church and it is my family day. I also would like to know if you would like to meet once a month or every other week. What sounds good to everyone. I really need to get some feedback so we can make all of this possible.
Thank you Karen for offering your home. Thank you for putting a message up to let the girls know.
Teena, we are just happy to have your presence we are fine if you are not able to offer your home. We are just wanting to gather together.
Please answer your questions in your pm box and send me the information so I can have it available on Monday for you ladies. or as Karens puts it Sisters. I like that!
Blessings; Elizabeth

Okay ladies I have 4 confirmations for Monday at 6pm. These will be this Monday Nov. 3rd This will be held at Karen's home in Chandler. If we can get the information forms filled out I can see who in the same vacinity to carpool with one another. I am looking forward to us getting together. This is a wonderful idea. I must give credit to ImShelle though she has not been online since June. So I pray that she is doing okay.
Blessings Elizabeth

Hi everyone,
I'm sorry I won't be able to join you on Monday - I've volunteered to make some last minute election calls that evening.
But don't forget me! I'm there the next time...

Hi All,
I'm in the Phoenix Area!! Got the dreaded news in Sept, and had surgery and was lucky enough to have the MammoSite Radiation at this Great Place in Chandler with the Doctor who really co-founded it. I finished it and just found out my Oncotype Score and will be seeing the Medical Onco. tom. on election day YUK! My surgeon and my radiation onco. both really think I need Chemo. because of the size of the tumor the location which was 2.8. I know I am lucky because was found early. Intersting thing is No cancer in my family what so ever but who knows.
Glad to have found this site!

Hi PinkLady welcome to the Phx BCO Meetup. I am glad you found this thread. I do wish you the best in starting up with chemo. I started rads and chemo last thursday. I get to do them together. My SE's are already started to kick in. This to shall pass.
Ladies I would love for us to come up with a date and time for future meetups. I know they need to be after 6pm cause many of you work. I will send out an email to everyone inregards to making this event take place. It will be a lot of fun getting to know you all. I did get an opportunity to meet with Melody. It was a pleasure Melody. I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Hi Elizabeth,
Can I ask you which Chemo you are doing and if any Side Effects???
I hope you are doing okay especially Both at the same time.
Thank You,
Jerri
-
Hi Jerri;
You can ask me anything. I am currently doing Taxol, & Carboplatin. So far I have not had to many SE's. So far I am experiencing mild stomach ache, neopathy (tingling of feet), and tired, occassionally dizzy. Now this round of chemo is so much milder for me than what I was on before. I have had Taxotere & Cisplatin, the SE's I had was nausea, vomiting, stomach ache, weak, tired, dizzy, neopathy, acid reflux, muscle pain, metal taste, sensitive to smells, loss of appetite, diahhera, low WBC's & hair loss (everything). This one got me the worse of all chemo treatment. I wanted it to end so badly. Next round of chemo I had Adriamycin (red devil) & Cytoxan the SE's I had was nausea, stomach ache, neopathy, tired, dizzy, shortness of breath, constipation, & low RBC's. Remember though that everyone is so different, some people get through chemo with little or no SE's. Each new cocktail for me got better. I am so glad cause the first set of 4 I thought it was over. Honestly during this time I have gotten lots of medications to help me out with the SE's. Some I listened to the ladies here on BCO. Who have been very helpful to me. It is a experience and God had held my hand every step of the way. I hope that this answers your questions. I am getting red from the rads, and the most that is starting to be more present is the fatigue. Have a blessed day!

Hi Elizabeth,
Sorry I haven't written but have been sick. My area where my lymph nodes were removed have gotten swollen again so had to see the Surgeon and have the area drained again. It really drains me. I was sleeping more and no energy. A bit better today and on antibiotics.
Monday I go for a Bone Scan and then go for a CT Scan Friday at the Doctors then see probably have the port placed in soon. Good thing I see my Surgeon so often. Spoke with him about that because when I saw my Medical Onco. he stated I will need that before Chemo.
Again I am a Nurse but ALL of this is Foreign to me.
Anyway Again sorry about the delay and I did resopnd to the PM.
Hope All is Well with You!
Jerri

Hi Jerri;
So sorry to hear that you have been sick. That is never any fun. So many test. Been there and done that and probably will still have to do more before this is over with. Good to know that you are on a antibiotics. I am glad that you responded. It is nice to get all this information. I sent you an evite too asking you if you would like to meet us at The Old Spaghetti Factory on the 1st of Dec. I am really looking forward to it. I am feeling alright. Tired a lot but that is expected with rads and chemo at the same time. SE's are not as bad as my other cocktails had been. What kind of nurse are you? Where do you work at? Are you going to be working while receiving treatment?
Hi Teena;
I am looking forward to getting together. It has been fun putting this together. I really enjoy doing these kind of things. It is going to be fun. Take care and see you in Dec.

Hi Sisters,
I am looking forward to meeting you all Dec. 1st. I did get together with Elizabeth and her Mom and had a great time talking with them. I hadn't realized that 4 hours had passed. That is what happens when you meet new people and enjoy the time you spend with them. Elizabeth, it was a pleasure for me also to meet up with you and your Mom. Thanks for all your planning efforts.

I wanted to chime in... I live on the far west valley and start my chemo next Friday hopefully. I would love to meet you all but I don't want to make any committments right now since I had severe hyperemisis (vomiting/nausea) with both my pregnancies and am really afraid it will happen with the Chemo. Amira
-
Hi Amira;
So glad that you chimed in. We would love for you to join us as well. I understand that you are uncertain what your treatment SE's are going to be. We would still love to extend the invitation. If you can make then that would be great. I will send you a PM's with information to fill out. I will also send you an evite. You can respond by the 26th of Nov. This is when I will be making the reservations for our group. My thoughts go out to you!
Did they give you medication for your hyperemisis? Did any of that help? Emend is really good stuff for that. I hope that your onc recommends it for you. Let's us know how you are doing? It will be great to meet you sometime. We all are looking forward to our gathering.
In God's Grace; Elizabeth
