Hi all -- Kitchenwitch, how are you feeling? Really, back to work 12 days after mx? Yikes!!!
My mastectomy is Dec. 1. I hope by Christmas week I'll be mobile, but I wonder if I'll be afraid of Christmas crowds? I had a lumpectomy Nov. 5. I really wanted to go out and watch the NYC Marathon Nov. 7, but I was too afraid of getting bumped and jostled! I don't know how long that feeling lasts with a bigger surgery (mx)!
sweatyspice, so sorry about your friend.
Best wishes to her.

Citykitty, I'm feeling really not bad. The more I sit around the worse I feel. Went to Target yesterday and shopped my head off for a couple of hours, which was pretty exhausting, so I came home and fell asleep for a while. I don't thinking going to work and sitting at a computer is going to be beyond me at this point.
I can see where you'd feel a little anxious two days post-lumpectomy. Next year come to my building's lobby - you will have a front row seat!
-
Oooh, Kitchenwitch, where do you work?! Sounds like a hot ticket. Near Rock Ctr?
Well, I'm amazed at how good recovery from mx can be. In some ways I could go to work now, 9 days after my uni mx with TE. But in other ways, I am glad for the time off to recover, both physically and mentally. (Ha -- I just realized that the last time I posted here, I didn't even know I would definitely need mx -- it all happened pretty fast.)
Flash, hope you're recovering well with your nose.
So is there any more thought to a December get-together? Even if there are only a few of us, it would be nice.
Is there a group on Facebook? Where should I look?
-
citty kitty....walking was fine...cabs were AWFUL....I seriously walked to ever single follow up appointment...even though I did a weird little shuffle.
It took me a month to go on the subway.
One we got out of the city the car was fine...but the bumpy roads in the city were ouchy.
A pillow is a big big help.
-
Citykitty, how are you feeling?? I work way downtown but I live on 5th Ave. uptown - so every year on Marathon Sunday my building has a party and people watch the runners.
The weirdest thing happened to me last night. I met some cousins for dinner and there were a bunch of other people there (friends of my younger cousin who is in college) including her stepsister. Most everyone left, and it was just me, my cousin and the stepsister, who was very friendly and sweet, and about 30. My cousin says, Can I tell her about your mx, because I really want to know how you're feeling, and I said (reluctantly), Sure. And the stepsister (just 30!) says, Oh, I had a mastectomy too. Hers was bilateral prophylactic because she is BRCA positive. Isn't that bizarre? Naturally we had a very bond-y mx convo. How strange the world is sometimes.

Popping in to say that my job has now been extended thru Jan 10, so I'll be working 60 hour weeks till then (with a few days off for the holidays, b/c work will be closed). Rarely get a chance to check the thread these days.

sweaty, I figure I've had my break- I'm still here. That's good enough for me. Can't complain. the back is finally feeling good (hopefully it's still fusing.) The cpap machine is working and I really feel sooooo much better and the nose isn't even that black and blue or swollen. Drugs are keeping the pain down and I'll get used to being a mouth breather for a short time.
anyone want to get together?
-
Hi cookiegal & Kitchenwitch -- I feel great! I was up and around the next day. Five days later I walked a mile to meet some friends. I've gone out for several 2+-mile walks since then (and if the weather would warm up it'd be easier to increase my mileage!). Riding in a car has been easier than it was with my two lumpectomies. Riding the subway, not a problem. Not allowed to drive yet, and enjoying the time off work -- I'm finding the break as important mentally as it is physically. Now I'm stressing over the next steps -- post-op with the PS and first appt with the onco.
Kitchenwitch, I had a similar thing happen...met a total stranger at a party who it turns out has been through similar bc stuff and had stories to tell. I'm always a bit leery of mentioning my condition to new people for fear of shocking them, because in the past I would have been one of those people who didn't know what to say. But it's amazing the people you meet who DO sort of get it!
So how is everyone else doing?
-
Hi Ladies,
I am a newbie here and would love to meet up with you all in the future. Any plans in the future?
-
Hello my New York friends, just when I leave the boards for awhile you plan a get-together! I am glad to see everyone is doing okay. I am in Omaha for the Holidays and Santa brought me a new baby for Christmas...my DD delivered Samuel Joseph on December 9th. I have been just having too much fun in my new role as Grandma.
I will be coming back in a couple of weeks so if plans arise again I would love to see all of you again.
Happy New Year,
Linda (formerly OmahaGirl) now OG because the other is too long LOL
-
so, looking outside as the snow falls. I guess suggesting a get together soon isn't going to h appen. Is anyone doing anything at the end of January?? maybe on the weekend ???? There's a great little thai restaurant on 34th near 3rd if anyone is interested.

Hi flash,
I am interested. The end of January sounds good to me.
-
Oh wow....I am Australian and just had a holiday in NYC with DH. We absolutely loved it...I can't tell you how much!!
We did everything...Broadway shows, ate at Sardis, saw the Harlem Gospel Choir, you name it...we did it....and Macys....lol...DH couldn't get me out of there.
I would love to see NY in the snow but as far as getting around the weather last month was just perfect for us.
Have fun girls!
EDITED TO SAY: I have just seen on the news how much snow you are having in NYC at the moment...hope everyone is ok
jezza -
End of January could be good for me, depending on the date -- I'm probably out of town that last weekend, Jan 29-30.
jezza, glad you had such a great time! I love NY so much I moved here from Texas, but I dream of visiting Australia one day! (And yes, this snowstorm has been pretty crazy!)
-
Happy New Year ladies!!

Okay, we're already in January and I'm slow on the organizing. So here goes: How about first weekend in February, on the Saturday, at the Lemongrass Grill on 34th? 4 PM? There's a parking garage almost directly across the street and I know the buses and subway are pretty easy since it's right by the Langone NYU cancer center.
-
I'm in. Anyone else?
-
Sounds good to me! Both days are fine with me, but Saturday is a better day for me, it's not a school night!
Looking forward to seeing everybody! It's been way too long!
-
I would very much like to join and very excited about meeting you all.
Katia
-
So time sounds good on the saturday? kitchen, tweety, katia?
-
Sounds good Flash but could you tell me the cross street for 34th?
-
Hi Flash,
It sounds good to me, too. Thank you for organizing it.
Katia
-
Flash, ditto for me. And thanks!
-
Lemongrasss grill is same side, further west of the Langone cancer center. cancer center is 34th between 3rd and lexington. Little tiny parking garage across the street has really nice guys parking that are really honest.
-
What? You wanna meet up the street from the damned Cancer Center???? Oy.
Well, at least we all know where THAT is. : )
Will try to make it, can't promise at this point - life is still way too crazy.
-
Saturday, Feb 5th sounds good for me Speed, are we still meeting at 4:00?
I'm an Eastern Cupcake here, and not that familar with NYC, just wanted to check if it's walking distance from Penn Station/Madison Square Garden.
-
Can be walked from penn station but easier with cab. Also easy for car, 34 th street exit off the FDR.
-
Hey Sweaty, of course near the cancer center. I have the menu from Lemongrass practically memorized because they would deliver to the infusion center. I made sure my nurses ate verrrrrry well. Funny, I always got the room with the view for treatment, can't imagine why.
-
Thanks Flash! See you on the 5th! Hopefully we're not going to be getting any snow! I'm sick of it already.
-
Tweety - It's about 6 long blocks from Penn Sta.
