Haven't checked the thread in a few days - Flash....I guess that's good news? Never thought I'd say having vertebral rods and fusion and, well, I don't even really understand what you're having, never thought it would be good news. Oh, a topsy turvy world we live in!
Good luck!! I'll still be in rads, so if you want a visitor at 9am ish, let me know.
I should be generally available in July.
Mostly I'm just focusing on getting through rads, having a hard time imagining this being finished and me not being in pain or exhausted or some such. But hope is alive!
-
big hugs sweaty. you're getting there, it's almost done. We'll have to figure out getting together.
Who'd have thought back surgery was good news......
-
Just stumbled on this: http://www.adelphi.edu/communityservices/creativecups/
It's a fundraiser for Adelphi Univ.'s Statewide BC Hotline & Support Program (Adelphi is on Long Island) called "Creative Cups" - take a 36C bra and embellish it, then send it in and they have a gala with silent auction, etc. There's a $25/bra entry fee, but multiple women can work on the same bra (just has to be entered under one name). And they won't display the bra at the gala if they deem it not to be in "good taste."
I don't know how I feel about this (esp the good taste and entry fee parts of it) but thought I'd throw the idea out there. It could make for a fun day of arts & crafts.
(Ladies of the Loop, feel free to publicize further if you are so inclined.)
Edited for annoying typos.
-
I think it's a great idea. I'm cool with it on taste....to me not all bc fundraisers have to be a walk or cocktail party. I'm not super crafty tho.

hi everyone,
just stopping in to say hi. haven't logged on in quite some time. i had my first mammo after treatment a few weeks ago and it was clean. my intense happiness was shortlived, as the next day, i had some suspicious findings at the gyno. so far, nothing to worry about, but what a scare. i'm back in again in june for another look. may all just be side effects of tamoxifen. fun.
flash, good luck with your surgery. your positive attitude is inspirational.
sweaty, did you start rads yet? i'm sure it was discouraging to have your start date pushed back, but that then radiating you in the wrong place. hang in there.
and i hope everyone else is healthy, happy and enjoying the sunshine.
xoxo

DEB!!!! Miss you, man! I'm just midway thru rads, have done 13 of 25. 8:30am at NYU, loads of fun. I bring a different CD every morning to try and keep myself and the techs amused.
Happy to hear about the clean mammo, UGH about the gyno, and hope you are doing well otherwise. Hope to see you/speak to you soon.

Hello all,
I am not creative at all but if anyone wants to enter a bra in the contest, I will gladly pay the $25 fee. Adelphi's breast cancer support services are the best. When I was looking for a support group, and they didn't have any starting at that time, they offered me free counselling with a social worker. They have support groups in the evenings, which may places don't. I found their services much more accessible than the ones offered by American Cancer Society. Just my .02.
Anyhow, if anyone wants to enter, I think it's a great idea & will pay the $25. PM me if interested.

can we stipulate the bra cannot be "pink?"
-
I think the rules say that it has to start out as a white underwire 36C. And as a native New Yorker, I'd never do pink - I have traditions to uphold. I'll sign the stip.
-
I read the rules on their website....wow...those are a lot of very specific rules! I still think it's a great idea.
-
No pink! Red is always a good bra color
The bra has to be postmarked by August 2. They want entries to pre-register. The exhibition of the bras is in March 2011 and only the first 200 entries get in the exhibit.
I can go ahead and register if someone here is willing to make a bra. Anyone?
-
I'll make a bra, but I don't want to do it alone. I think it should be a more collaborative arts & crafts project.
A friend of mine has gotten into mosaic...I wonder if you could glue tile fragments to the fabric...would they stay on?? I'll have to ask her. A red tile/mirrorball bra anyone?
-
I have absolutely no artsy crafty talent.....do you need a cheering section?
God Bless!
-
Oh I like a red mirrorball/tile bra! I'm sure you could glue it on. We'd have to get a really supportive cement type bra, lol.
-
I'll probably be having a pizza night with my friend who's into mosaic tonight, I'll ask her if she thinks it will work. I'll post with her either tonite or tom'w.
-
OK,. spoke with my friend this am. She thinks it can definitely be done and she wanted to do it, I had to remind her that I wanted to work on it too! So, is there anyone else who actually wants to play arts & crafts? I don't want to leave anyone out!

Flash, good luck on the back surgery Monday!

-
Does anyone have a Manhattan onc that they love? I know someone who's currently looking for a 2nd opinion. I think she's Stage I but am not certain about that.
Sending love to Flash.....
-
Flash,
Hope all went well with your surgery.
Hugs,
Francine
-
Hoping to hear all went well, Flash!
Sweaty...I like my onc fine...Dr. George Raptis of Mt. Sinai!
Crusader...great pic!
God Bless!
-
Just wanted to say that I spoke to Flash very briefly today. The surgery was a success and she is doing well in her recovery. YAY!
-
Bra update - I don't think it's going to happen with my friend and myself. We're having "creative differences."
She wants to do a pattern, like flowers or birds or puppies or something. I'm not interested in that. I just wanted to throw some mirrorball stuff on, in a more nonrealistic, let's have fun and however it turns out is fine, kind of way. She's not interested in that.
So I don't think this is gonna happen, at least not with myself & friend. Oh well.
-
Dr Maura Dickler at Memorial, not only a great doctor but a super nice person
-
That's OK sweaty...no sweat. lol. The last thing you need is stress from something like this.
-
I need a little help. A former paralegal of mine needs a referral to a breast surgeon on Long Island New York, preferably Nassau County. Anyone?
-
I went to Dr. Mansoor Beg as my breast surgeon and Dr. Ron Israeli as my plastic/reconstructive surgeon. I recommend them both highly. There is also Karen Kostroff, breast surgeon on LI. She has an excellent reputation.
