800 calorie diet - sorry, but that is wayyyyyyyyyy too low for anyone. It can't be healthy so please check first with your onc or GP.
Sometimes the lbs don't come off but you can feel a difference in the way your clothes fit. Don't give up. Stop trying to diet and try to live and eat healthy. Don't forget the water - lots of it because it does make a difference, especially warding off those cravings after 7pm (my cutoff will be at 8pm from now on).
We can do this but it's that season right now and so the frustration will definitely get to us. Be good to yourself and just try your best for the next 4 weeks.
Maybe we should just try and do it right but not weigh until January?
-
patoo,
I agree that the 800 calorie thing is way to low. It was actually the Dr.Bernstein diet I went on. worked? Yes. but like I said, after 2 month I was miserable and cranky.
I have uped my workout regime, made it more intense, and have added weights 2x week. We'll see how that works.
I have retired my scale to the closet, underneath my suitcases. I will weigh myself January 1st.
-
Hi, guys! How y'all doing? I havent weighed myself since the one pound weight gain...which is getting annoying because I basically stay stagnant, but will weight on Saturday...hope to be two pounds down!
-
Oh, I know what it is - I gain from reading your name <cake>
Hey, got to use some excuse.
-
Okay, still trying to get motivated. This is just a bad time of year but we can do it - yes we can!
-
Im taking the night off from the gym
. I had a rough night lastnight battling insomnia. I just dont have the drive to hit the gym. I feel guilty because I said I would go, but my eyes are puffy and red and I have a terrible headache.
I think Ill make my veggie burger with a mixed green salad/balsamic vinagrette.
I hope tomorrow is a better day.
-
Hi Ladies, hope it's not too late to join. Need to lose about 30 more pounds and the scale hasn't budged in a while. Have lost 10 since Dr. told me I had to lose this fat because of the estrogen. I have been trying to eat mostly whole foods, cutting back on dairy(not having cheese every day is hard for me), more veggies than usual and portion control. That last one is a biggie cuz I love to eat! I also started working out again. Started walking every night with hubby after feeling better from surgery. As healing progressed started my workout tapes as well. I have lots here from years ago and really like the interval training aerobics/weights best. Going for final reconstruction Dec. 15th so want to lose at least a couple more before that.
Good luck to all!
-
Finally!!! The scale went down!! 5 pounds! I have been avoiding the scale because it just wouldn't move! I have been struggling since I joined this thread (in October) I have counted calories, done weight training, drank water etc.... just like probably all of you - lol. This past week, I decided to not count the calories, but just keep in mind portion size - stop eating when no longer hungry - not when full and just walk briskly instead of weight work - and was almost floored when I stepped on the scale this morning! Sooooooo, I am giving the weights a rest for a while -until I need to tone up and am going to concentrate on aerobic excercise (right now walking for approx 1 hour briskly.) When the weather is not co-operative, I will be doing cardio tapes - I like Richard Simmons "Sweatin to the Oldies" tapes (20th anniversary pack is now on dvd) as it feels more like dancing and the music usually keeps you going. Believe it or not, my mother (76 in January) has decided to join me in the exercise program, so I have to keep in mind not to bite off more than we can chew (so to speak)! Take care everyone!
-
fmakj,
Great news!!!
At least one of us has some...lol.
I was talking with my mother the other day about my weight loss struggles. She herself, as gone through them for as long as I can remember. Sh has always struggled. Her high was 200lbs at 5'3 and her lowest 115 lbs. She actually joined Weight Watchers and lost alot of weight.....but.....it all came back when she went through cancer treatment.
Anyways, she stated that sometimes it takes the body time to realize what is going on. Ex. all of a sudden there is exercise and less food/calories being ingested. that could be the reason why my stupid scale has not gone down.
Now don't get me wrong, Im happy it hasnt gone up but I was hoping for a 3lb loss in 3 weeks. And nothing. BUT....I feel lighter. when I walk my energy is higher, I walk brisker. I just feel lighter. You know what I mean?
Im hoping my mother was right and maybe I have gained some muscle mass which could be a factor too.
<sigh> Off to the gym!!!!!
-
fmakj,
Congrats! I have the Richard Simmons workouts as well and love them. I haven't used those particular ones in a while but will dig them up again. It's always nice to have a variety. I've always been one to gain weight easily so I have quite a collection of these workout tapes. I find that I have to keep moving and watching what I eat or the pounds come right back on.
I try to tell myself not to just look at that darn number on the scale but to notice how my clothes are fitting! It doesn't help when that number changes all day long. Anyone know why your weight changes throughtout the day? And it seems it always goes up for me but by morning, it's lower again.(well, most of the time, haha)
Well, need to go make something healthy to take for dinner tonight for work.
-
I found that I had to quit getting on the scale ... it was driving me crazy! Will weigh in again maybe some time before Christmas day and then will weigh in again after New Years day to see what havoc the holidays caused and to get back on track! Good Luck everyone and I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season! Enjoy (maybe in moderation??!!)!
-
Well I took a big step today. I went to the gym. After chemo I was so fatigued that I had to begin by just gentle walking. My first goal was to walk around the block, then I got up to a mile. Anway my hubby goes to the gym every Saturday and Sunday so today I went with him. I managed an hour of exercise and I even enjoyed it a bit. So tomorrow, I will join the gym for three months and see how it works out. My goal would be to get there 3 times a week.
I think evening snacking gets everyone down. I allow myself a small piece of fruit (a clementine for example). But I like a warm drink so I think that I need to find some herbal teas that I like and that will not keep me up all night.
Anyway I hope everyone has a nice day.
Hugs
Mandy

Took DS (25 yo) into NYC today to see pre-release of Princess and the Frog and so did quite a bit of walking. He uses a cane and in NY has to also hold my hand or he will be run over (by people, not cars!) so I got quite a workout because he leans so heavily on my arm.
Will weigh tomorrow morning (because you do weigh less when you first get up).
-
Patoo, You are always so upbeat! I read alot of posts, but rarely add anything to them. I posted a HELP with my weight about a month ago. I AM GETTING BIGGER! My dear husband said to me over the weekend.. "nice jeans! Where did you pull those out of? High school days?" He thought he was being cute and I know he didn't mean any harm but he is one of those guys that don't THINK first. Anyway, these jeans were a pair that I wear at least once a week. So happens they are getting smaller!
That is why I am on this site today..... to get motivated again and not let my weight get out of hand. I am 41 years old and I NEED to get this before it gets me! Just wanted you to know I enjoy reading these posts, and yours make me smile.!!
-
Welcome Louiebern!!!!
Im glad your motivated. Its good to have all the other woman on board to give us that extra push. This time of year is difficult with the holidays and everything. BUT...you can indulge a little here and there, just take it up a notch or 2 when working out!
BTW....I hate how weight seems to creep up on you!!!!
-
great news, the scale finally budged another 3 lbs this morning! It helps keep the motivation going. Have energy and will walk after dinner and do aerobics in the morning before work. DH home so have to go eat. Good luck louiebern!
-
Ok...KAC.
what are you doing that Im not...lol.
Seriously. Are you on any anti hormone meds? I think my Tamox and Lupron is working against me. Help a sister out!!!!!!!!
-
Thanks Louiebern - I do tell people I don't have a serious bone in my body! Far as I'm concerned it's the only way to go. Life is too short and things are gonna happen so roll with it. Things will happen (BC included) and if I don't have control over it I won't let it have control over me.
Now about that weight. I initially took your DH comments as a compliment, saying you were still able to get into your high school jeans. Of course, then I read the rest of your take on what he said - I still prefer to go with my first reaction. You should have said "oh, thanks honey. Isn't it great that I can still get into them!" then left it at that and rev up your workout to shrink down to fit them.
Don't beat yourself up this time of year. Do your best and keep on pushing. Actually you are still young enough to reach some goals so hang in there. I'll be looking forward to seeing you post that you not only look good in them again but that they are a little too loose.
-
Oh yeah, KAC, share your secret. Actually I'm still down 2 from the holiday. Just so busy running around the past week so have only been eating sporadically, maybe something light for breakfast and then only one other meal, each day.
Good news/Bad news - going to DisneyWorld but that means eating out for 6 days. But, again will probably only eat 2 meals a day and a lot of walking so perhaps...
-
Thanks all!! Lexislove, KAC and patoo!! Lexislove, I have read alot of your posts too! I was diagnosed in January of this year, and I wish I had logged on this site way before I did!! These days I am just dealing with getting back to somewhat of a normal-ness with my life and body. I know all of you have been there. Its great to read all the joy in your words.... gives me something posative to believe in. I don't mean to sound like such a downer.... really I am an upbeat person most of the time. Just lately things have been harder. I have no idea why. Maybe the meds!! Anyway, thanks for the kind words!!!
-
lexislove, I'm on Femara. My feet really bother me since I've been on it and doing aerobics and walking actually help them feel better. Doesn't make sense, does it? Although none of this bc stuff does. I think what actually works best for me is called the interval training aerobics. It's a combo of aerobics and weight training. Plus hubby and I walk almost every night, about 2 miles. I have really cut my portions down(still probably eat more than I should), eat lots more veggies(not too much broccoli cuz it's estrogen based), changed from eating white potatoes to eating sweet potatoes(occassionally) or eat brown rice instead, cut down on cheese. More or less trying to stay away from processed foods. I don't deprive myself, if I have a craving, I have what I want, just try not to eat too much of it.
patoo, I have read some of your other posts and you are great! Love your humor!
I have a question for anyone. I was on estrogen for 8 years and major side effect listed was weight gain.(which I did, hubby even told onc that I really gained after I was on it) Now I'm on Femara which takes away estrogen, and side effect listed is weight gain. So, does estrogen make you gain weight or does the lack of it make you gain? Very confused, I thought great, I'll be off this estrogen and will be able to lose weight. Guess again, huh.
I'm trying to stay ahead of the weight gain issues so I HAVE to keep working out and watching what I eat. This time of year will be a challenge, you know, with all the cookies and candy floating around. Cookies, especially cut out cookies with icing, are my fav. I need to quit talking about them or I'll have to go get some!
Good luck ladies, have to go work out before I go to work!
-
-
lexislove,
I guess we just need to keep working at it 24/7! Eventually, you would think our bodies would get the hint and just get rid of the excess weight already. I really do think the weights help just remember you may not lose weight at first cuz muscle weighs more but you'll see a difference in clothing. Unfortunatley being on the meds we are on, we have to work extra. I don't know if this actually helps, but sometimes when I skip salad for a couple of days and eat something like a chicken wrap instead, I seem to lose. My thinking is give the gut a rest with all that lettuce and eat some other types of fiber. Who knows, right? The only thing we can do is support eachother and go with it!
Off to get another fill on Femara and go for pre-op testing. Having my exchange next week! Guess I won't be doing aerobics/ weights for a bit. Walking will have to do at first. Take care!
-
KAC, Good plan!! Lets support eachother!! I think I will take your advice about skipping the salads sometimes. It will probably make me crave them more too! I love salad and don't want to get tired of them.
Good luck on your upcoming exchange!!!!! I had mine in September and it's like night and day from the expanders!!
-
louiebern,
had a slip today, ate a hot fudge cookie sundae for dessert. It was an awful day, lots of stress. Will have to be good for the rest of the week. I'm very tired now and need to go to bed. Have a great night.
-
KAC, That "slip" was not so bad!! Unless you had like 4 of them! lol I read some of your posts and I see you had a rough day! Geez I hope it gets better for you. Dealing with those things are never easy and it makes you mad more than anything.
I am going to get my butt up and moving today! Hubby just commented that I have been a bit of a slacker. He is totally right! There is no reason to have let everything go for so long. Life goes on and I can't always use the excuse "I don't feel like it". (This last paragraph was more for me to vent rather than tell you what my husband says.)
I hope the weekend brings you a somewhat of a break from your trials.
~Mona

This whole week was a slip for me! Ice cream, pizza, chinese food and Wendys. I was at my kids' school the whole week helping with a Christmas shoppe, so I was NOT cooking. Boy what a difference...I am bloated and definitely feel like I gained 5 pounds. But I'm not weighing myself this week because I dont want to get discouraged and give up.
Starting over!
-
Mona,
Definitely had a better day today. Let DH deal with issues today. Work was hectic and I had to stay til 9, so that put dinner out til I got home at 9:45. I really didn't feel like eating anything too much, so I had a few triscuits. Hopefully they will give my belly enough to last through the night. I have to work out tomorrow morning before work, my feet were killing me today. Hard to believe jumping around the room makes the feet feel better.
Don't be so hard on yourself, just do what you can do and try your best. I know, it's easier said than done but if you're like me, you will feel better after your workout and that will make you want to do it more.
Cake, I don't blame you for getting off track. My kids are all in college now but I remember the days! Definitely don't get on that scale, you'll most likely want to throw it out if you do. Just get back in the groove again and know we're here to support you.
time to go to bed ladies, I have to get up early and be back at work in the morning. I'm so glad I only have 2 more days left until sometime in Jan. Take care.
-
KAC, GREAT! It's good to let your DH take some things off your plate. I'm sure he's glad to do it! Sometimes we have to give them those little hints of help, but once they get it, it works out well for all!
Tonight we are finishing up our shopping, fighting crowds but the best part it going out to dinner after! I have already set my mind to not over eat! I stepped on the scale today and guess what.... it wasn't as bad as I thought!!! So I'm going to take this opportunity to stay on the right track!
Have a good weekend!! Keep up the good work!!
~Mona
-
Mona,
I'm glad the scale treated you good! Did you finish your shopping? I have to go today since surgery is tomorrow. Went kyaking yesterday with DH since weather was perfect and we won't be able to go for a while. I sure hope I heal quickly so I can continue my workout routine. Walking will have to do to begin again. I'll just have to really watch what I eat. It's going to be tough with all the goodies this time of year.
Congrats Jo on the weight loss. I have noticed that since I've started eating healthier and lost some weight that my acid reflux is almost gone. I hope the more I lose (still have lots to go), that I will eventually have no reflux. Keep up what you're doing.
Have to go ladies, need to get things done before tomorrow. Take care!
