Thank you Linda
I do feel honored that I was nominated and chosen-just scared silly about it!!!!
I plan to wear our agency shirt with a breast cancer survivor ribbon. There has to be something good about the after bc weight gain and I have decided that since Im 10 pounds heavier that will give me more hinney to zing the ball
...
Everyone keeps telling me how much fun this is going to be but my knees are knocking already as someone told me that they do an anouncement of your name, history with the agency and any personal history they know about. Im making a request to the teams PR person to please not go on for more than a moment or two but I do want them to mention that I am a bc survivor and what a struggle it is to overcome. Im not sure how much they will allow for pushs but plan to ask them to give my thanks to bc.org and the ladies here...
-
Jule, you will do great. Start practicing today!!
-
Jule!!! what fun!!! My younger brother has season tickets and my parents have mini season tickets to the local AAA ball team Hickory Crawdads who this year are affiliated with the Texas Rangers. We go frequently to the games and I have seen all types of people that throw out the first pitch. No matter how you throw the ball, you will do great. How much time do you have to get ready for this honor? If I were you, I would find someone to throw practice pitches to even if it is a coworker at lunch, get some practice time in. I don't like baseball particularly on TV but it is so much fun in person, I spend more time people watching than watching the actual game.

Pat-thank you for the smile!!!! I grew up with 4 brothers and no sisters so they were always trying to feed me a line about something or other and Im sure when I tell them about this they are going to start in again....but its ok......Im determined to get that ball the 90 feet and then some so huh!!!
I hadnt thought about the size of the stadium and the fact that they cant really seem me
..I LIKE that idea.
Barb-thanks for the tip about throwing....David and I are going to start tossing the ball this weekend so I can at least make the 90 ft....his hand is all healed and you can barely tell where the mrsa was at all now....thank you for asking
-
You can throw overhand 90 feet? Is it your node arm? Good for you! Post a pic....
Glad to hear David is done with Mr. Sa.
-
YAEH Jule - I hate the spot light too, but I see/feel this as a Good thing for you , for BC, awareness is awesome and sometimes we gotta be in the spotlight I guess. You will throw just fine. Picture the catchers face as "BOOTFACE" aim strong and throw hard for yourself and all of us. LOL. xoxoxoxoxoxo
-
Yes Barb, I can throw a ball farther overhanded than I can underhanded....I think its the fact that I was raised in a man's world growing up. It use to just piss me off when my brothers would say stuff like "you cant cause your a girl" or "only sissies and girls throw like that"...
You've hit the nail on the head with your question...yes, its the arm that I had the sentinal node biopsy so its not as strong as it once was....nervous that the ball will fall short of the catcher.....oh how embarassing that would be
...I really gotta stop thinking things like that!!!!!
I have two weeks to practice like crazy, the game is July 6th in Spokane. David is out in search of the perfect practice ball for me today on his lunch hour....he's such a sweet man...all my brothers said they would come catch for me when David gets tired of it....
-
Go Jules!! That is an honor...but sorry...I would be just like you...scared to death!
My girls love and were very good at softball..but I am scared of a ball or anything small being thrown at me...so thank goodness you aren't on the receiving end..lol. I am sure you will do fine..and just practice some. But I feel like you...I don't like being up in front of people..but they will be far away! Good luck..when is it?
-
Jules..they don't make you stand on the mound!! They will let you go mid way if you want too. I have even seen President Bush stand off the mound..closer to home plate!
-
Cathi- now THAT is a thought.....I will put Bootface on the catcher and that ball will hit him so hard he will fall over!!!!!! Thank you for the image and I will be sure to tell David to get lots of pics of Bootface hittin the dirt.....Whats that saying? something like "This ones for us???" Well, this isnt just for me girls, its for you too!!!
Lisa, The game is July 6th so not too far away...I will be a bundle of nerves by then and likely have a sore arm from practicing...They asked me to be there early so I can work with the catcher so hopefully I will be so busy the nerves will stay away until after.
I didnt know you could move up but will definately keep that in mind....David and my little brother are planning to measure 90 ft in our backyard to help me practice....I would love to be able to SMACK Bootface a whooper at 90 ft for all of us....think he catcher would mind getting knocked over by a girl?
-
Yes Jule, at the local baseball stadium they will let the 'honorary pitchers' throw the ball out in front of the mound. I have seen some go half way between to throw the ball. the Catcher will move appropriately to catch the ball.

Have fun with it! Another thing to put on your list of interesting things you've done

Good Evening Sisters xxx
Nancy I hope Emily has a fantastic graduation!!
Jules...wow... how amazing... you will be alright on the night! I wonder who put you forward... why don't you try a stiff drink if you're nervous..and then belt it overarm with some bootface agression... I will wait here to catch it!! lol
Ok I just got in from work , its been v busy..and my eye my eye MY EYE...well its very weepy in the car on the way home...and the drops arent working...so I bought a tiny tube of anti b creamy gel... rushing home to soothe it... I sat in front of the bedroom mirror... and point the tube at my eye ...squeeze gently ...and POW the gel hit my eye that hard I almost went through the window!!! OMG its twice as bad now!
I think I need to go the docs in all reality ...
AE of course I cant wait to see ya!!! I just done that rota and booked the weekedn off!!!!! not long now xxx
-
Sue I seemed to miss the post of you telling what is wrong with your eye.....do you have an eye cold? maybe pink eye?? It sounds to me like you REALLY need to see a doctor about it!!!!
Stout drink would probably knock ME on my hinney as I rarely drink......have you seen those cartoons where the batter hits the ball to the catcher and it was going so fast it punched a hole through the catchers mitt???? Well, thats how hard I want to hit this Bootface ball
-
OMG Sue for some reason I can actually picture you squeezing that gunk into your eye full force, sorry I know its not funny, but picture you rolling over backwards, with your panties up in the air and goooooooo oozing from your eye. Now get yourself to the DR, or when AE & UB get there you may look like a one eyed cyclops and not be able to see them anyway.
XOXOXOXOXOXO

Hey all! Just jumping in. I had my first chemo yesterday. I feel sore all over but all I want to do is eat! What is that all about?
And lucky me I developed lyphodema this weekend. CANCER SUCKS!
I am getting my mohawk this week. I will post pics then.
hugs and kisses to you all.
-
Hi All,
Jule - WOW - how cool is that!! But I would be scared to death as well. Hate being the center of attention. Would love to see some pictures.
Deborah - one down, five to go - you have started the journey on the yellowbrick road. Hang in there!
Sue - I don't want your stinking pink eye
- get to a doctor missy!!! lol.
Nancy - how is your father? We pretty much finalized the plans for the trip. We are flying into Heathrow at 6:30 Friday morning, taking a train to Manchester (a 3 hour ride) to meet up with Sue. She is taking us to a town called Wigan where UB's grandmother lived then back to Bolton where she better take us to her place to meet her boys & SO. Saturday we are going to Liverpool to see everything Beatles ( I'm a Beatle junkie) then on to Manchester for a Lou Reed concert. Sunday morning we will head to London ( Sue - are you coming with us?) where we will stay until Tuesday when we fly home. It will be a very quick trip but soooo worth it.
Ladies - UB is scheduled for a PET scan on Thursday to see if this new drug is working. Please keep your fingers crossed it is. I'll keep you posted.
Hugs,
AE
-
Fingers crossed for UB.
Hi Deb, yes CANCER SUCKS, I say eat what you want to hell with it, I am sure you will have days when Nothing will look, smell or taste good. Sometimes I think the anxious/nervousness over the first treatment of anything Chemo/Rads triggers hunger. Be sure and post your pics. I hate that you have to loose the hair, but if your doing what you PM'd me about can't wait to see them. I'll keep the secret. Hoping you get through these treatments with little SE - we are here for you always - xoxoxoxoxoxo
I want to go for a bike ride outside so bad, the bike doesn't seem to bother me like walking does, but its to dam muggy, so guess its onto the stationary and peddleing to no where again. Onco says as long as the bike doesn't cause increased pain then go for it. Guess I am off to OZ with Toto chewing at my feet.

Hi dear sisters and all the pets, I am still trying to find out what is up with my hip. Will an x-ray (actually 4 of them, different angles) tell me about mets? No way this HMO will pop for a Ct or Pet scan. Oh well.
The only thing I remember about eating is this, (I just heard this, did not do chemo) DO NOT eat anything you like in your real life, sometimes you can never touch it again, unless, of course, this thing is Hershey bars!
AE is going to see SUE!!! OH YOU LUCKY THING, fix her eye, get her to a doc. Gee, I wanna go too!!!
I just read where Steve Jobs (imac) got a new liver, with pancreatic cancer! It sure is nice to have lots of money, I suggested this for my DIL, and they said, "No, she will have to take anti-immune drugs, so a transplant won't work", seems to be working for Steve Jobs. Hummph.
Love you all, Shirlann

Sue-
I have recently started reading this thread. (Hi Everyone!!) I wanted to talk to you about your eye. I had an incident with my eye about 2 years ago. It hurt and made me crazy. I figured it was pink eye and tried various ointments before I finally went to an eye doctor. Turns out is it was "iritis" which is a medical emergency and you can lose your vision. It is serious!!! It has to do with the iris. I don't mean to scare you, but please get it checked.
-
Best if luck UB, will keep you in my prayers.
You too Deb. Take it easy and I say that you should eat whatever you want too. I hope you are feeling OK. I want to see the pics.
Shirlann, I hope your hip feels better.
Cathi, It's still raining, or should I say misting here and 60. I think it's going to break tomorrow, I hope. I have been watching your weather, along with the rest of the country, and it is HOT everywhere except here. I hope you get some relief soon. Are you feeling better?
-
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone here but particularly with those who are going through treatments (Deborah, Cheryl, Nettie and I know there are others but my sieve-brain can't recall at the moment) and those who are worried about mets - Barbe, Shirlann, Cathi, and others) and to all who are facing tests and scans like UB, Lisa and all of you waiting for results.
Much love and hugs to all of you.

Shirlann, my onco wants me to have x-ray and MRI for my hip, leg and back pain. From what I have been reading on the web, just like mammo, US and MRI, a PET SCAN, an MRI, an x-ray can show diffrent things, and there are 2 diffrent types of bone lesions and they show up diffrently on each test, of coarse this is new to me also, so who knows, from what I have been able to understand, and from my Onco the MRI is the most conclusive though?????? Praying for you
XOXOXOXOXOXOXO -Cathi
-
Cathi, here, they won`t do an MRI if the x-ray doesn`t show anything. Stupid, eh? So I think a lot of us get under-treated until it`s too late and there is a lot of damage. Stupid health system, but it`s cheap and you know what they say; you get what you pay for!
Why is it our HIPS that are so bad?
Hope you are feeling better after having a quiet weekend.
-
Well Barbe I guess the hips hurt so much from what I am trying to understand is because bone mets likes the spine and or the leg, and pressure in either of those areas causes the hip to hurt. When I stand I fell way better than if I walk or sit, also mets to the spine can cause spinal cord compression, which effects the hips. But like anything else with CA, it all varies. Some people have no symptoms (pain) for years, others right away, some on both sides of their body some not, I guess thats why sometimes it takes so long for a DR to take it serious. I don't mean to scare/upset anyone, but I have read many many articles lately and even asked my onco about these stats and he agreed, 30% of woman DX with invasive BC that is node negative will go on to develop bone mets, and bone mets from BC is more often spread through the blood stream rather than lymphatic system, my question to Onco - then why the hell aren't all woman who are DX with invasive BC treated more aggressively right from the start, the typical answer, the advancements in surveillance make it easier to catch and manage early - WTF , its all a big crap shoot and science experiment.
-
As far as yor insurance programs in ON Barbe, hell theres nothing perfect anywhere I guess, here in the States we pay thousands of $$$$ every year so we can have insurance - then we have to wait for some idiot sitting in a cubicle with a headset on to say "yes" or "no" regarding our health/tests, someone who most likely has no medical background at all, just a # cruncher as Ed says.
-
Well, just to shock you guys all more, we don`t even get PET scans here! You have to be a celebrity or an athlete on a team or something to get priority...my surgeon said I'd NEVER get one. Go figure.
-
Morning All,
Sending hugs to all in need - (((((((((((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))).
Cathi & Shirlann - let's chant - NO METS, NO METS - and I don't mean the baseball team.
I have heard that PET scans give allot of false positives because they pick up EVERYTHING that is going on inside your body - scar tissues, etc. Who knows what to believe....................
Barb - that is exactly why I am against our Presidents new health care program - I like the fact that we can get a scan.
Baywatcher - good to see you again - how is life in Key West? By any chance are you a Parrothead?
Gotta get back to work.
-
Lot's to catch up on since yesterday!
Shirlanne..good to see you!! So, sorry dear about your pain...no bone mets..no way!!
Barbe...I have a fellow Canadian here..actually she is from Scotland but moved to Canada and lived there for awhile..she told me..the healthcare is horrible!! She said..we American's complain..she said..move to Canada..you really won't be taken care of properly. That's all so sad.
Jane...good to see you...warm hugs to you!!
Sue..get that eye checked ASAP!!! You have company coming..you want to feel your best!!
UB...hugs to you too...your PET will come back perfect...just know it!!
Val..do you and UB leave this Friday? How wonderful..your trip sounds so awesome...quick..but fitting in soooooo much...lot's and lot's of pics..ok?! We want to see you with our dear Dorothy!! Cool that you are seeing Lou Reed...he actually flies in and out of my airport frequently. I think he and his wife have a home somewhere near here.
Linda..you need some sunshine and warmth in the MA area. I know how bad the Boston weather is..because our flights to and from Boston are delayed due to weather almost everyday for the past week or more!! Sunshine coming your way from OHIO...lol
Deb...good to see you! Well...one down girlfriend.... Your hunger could be triggered by the type of chemo. Are you taking any type of steroids with the chemo? I had to take a steroid with Taxotere..and it made me HUNGRY!! I wanted and did...eat allot. When I was on A/C...I was not hungry that much. I was worried about eating my fav's during tx...because everyone told me not too. But I craved watermellon...and ate a ton of it. But I still love it now..and eat it every week. I think it all depends. Eat and drink what your body wants you too. Protein is very important during chemo!
well girls..back to work. It's almost 9:30am here..and I am done today at 1pm. Not returning till Monday morning. I have vacation time...for the party. Don't forget to come!!
xoxo
Lisa
