Have any noticed the moderators are deleting all of my posts now? Does anybody truly believe they are deserving of respect? They are probably high school dropouts being paid minimum wage to do their jobs.

I may well go low profile with another ID that they won't know about, but blaest himself will never disappear. I will post regularly under this ID and probably under another stealth ID. Ten to one the moderators are die-hard republicans.

When I was a freshman in college my heartthrob used to take me to the cheap college movies on Fridays because we couldn't afford any other entertainment. I remember one called the "Parisian Slaughterhouse." It was a documentary on a butcher house in France. I spent most of the movie with my head bent over, my hands covering my eyes, his hands holding my head down to prevent me from seeing...but I could hear....it was horrible!! It still haunts me.Maybe we should each have to kill our own meat, that way we'd be a little less wasteful. To me all life is sacred.Linora

I don't worry about the Clinton drama and how it affects the Obama presidency. If Hillary gets and/or accepts the job, Bill Clinton too. The both of them will bring a incredible amount of experience to the administration. I think the Obamas and the Clintons are friends.

Have any of you seen the "commerical" with Sarah McLachlan singing "In The Arms Of The Angel" with the homeless animals. I can't watch that commercial without crying.
-
Thanks Obama ladies for all the well wishes!!! It is really good news!! As I hope we all get at some point. Listen, the turkey thing, we all know that animals are killed in order to feed us that eat meat. However, I don't walk around a slaughter house with a cup of coffee like its a day in the park! This woman is a camera whore and anywhere there's a camera pointed at her, that's where she'll give her attention. I don't believe it either Amy, that she had no clue this was going on behind her. She's at a slaughter house!!! Just a crazy setting. Pardon a turkey, but have a cup of coffee while hundreds of others go into a neck crunching machine. Dosn't make sense. My grandmother also raised chickens, and had to kill them to eat on occasion. But..it wasn't a picnic. Palin is just a huge lie and I am SOOOOO glad our Barack is in and she is out!!!!!!!!
-
The interview in front of the turkeys is so rediculous. Is it for real? Or was it a set up.
-
Shirley, Sarah McLachlan is one of Canada's great talents. I know the song "In the Arms of the Angels" well.
-
Little G, the executive's flight into DC on three private jets finished me off. All I could see was RED...especially when they were asked by a congressman, to raise their hands if they would sell the jet and take a commercial jet home.
NO hands went up, yet, all their hands were held out in front of them, with tin cups. That Congressman was pissed. The executives who flew in should all be fired by their boards: They've run our great companies into the ground, Good Lord what Maroons.
For the past 35+ years car manufacturers have fought every measure to make cars safer and more energy efficient: now the proverbial S*it has hit the fan; the economy just blew them up. I hope this can be resolved... maybe a placement into receivership for them... or something less draconian for the retirees, the workers who need their pensions and health benefits, the workers who made the trucks and cars. I feel very strongly about this. I can't tolerate this situation...not when so many people who will suffer because of the execs ineptitude ,are the working class people who gave their all to these companies and are retired now and having to deal with this mess, when it should not have happened to them, ever.
When I look at Sec Paulson on CSPAN talking about how well he's saved the financial institutions...see Citibank yesterday.. . but let the working stiffs job go under I am furious. He didn't do what was mandated with the TARP and that scared me and the DOW down to <7500.

I can't say I was all that alarmed watching Palin yesterday, while behind her Turkey's were being slaughtered, and slaughtered in a much more sanitary method--my granddaddy slaughtered by hand--than I'd ever seen when I was a youngster.
I grew up on a small 10 acre chicken farm in North Carolina; butchering is how we got our Chickens, Turkeys, Eggs (FREE RANGE):). They were free to us as long as we took good care of them. There's nothing like a Rooster letting you know it's time to get up. arrgh
We grew our own veggies and some fruit; a few Watermelons and Cantaloupe, accompanied by my favorite Pecan and Peach tree in the side yards. I miss that place.
I am so buzzed from my post AC Decadron... Wheee....can't sleep:)
We bought freshly butchered Pork and Beef at the neighbors place down the road, so like I posted earlier, I didn't mind Palin's sanitary butchering of the Turkey's in back, while I watched her yesterday, that is not until she started talking . OMG, she is a walking talking disaster. I think she means well... I Give up. She is hopeless sometimes.
-
I'm not a vegetarian, but could easily become one after the interview with Palin. I found the whole thing very disturbing. I'm not sure how they were being killed in a sanitary way, what I saw was turkey after turkey being put in this machine to cut off their heads. Blood everywhere. I guess ignorance is bliss. Now all I can think of is all those turkeys being served on ThanksGiving.
One time I was at a summer party. They had a pig roast. I felt like the pig was looking at me. I have not been able to eat pork since then. What is so cool about cooking an animal and leaving it's head on while your carving it?
Shirley I have seen those commercials and I just can't watch them. I turn it off immediately, cause it makes me so sad.
Hate the idea of dog fighting too. Of course I turn my head whenever I see road kill. Skunks, possums - it still upsets me.
Sooooo I have decided that this ThanksGiving I will be eating all the other stuff and leave the turkey. Mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, rolls, cranberry sauce, string bean casserole, and all the other wonderful dishes that are served. No turkey or ham for me this year. It was a stupid thing on Palin's part.
Amy: I like the idea of Hillary being Secretary of State. If I am understanding things right, that would put her equal to Biden? My only disappointment is that she won't be involved in the health care issues. So far, I'm feeling that Obama is making some smart moves and surrounding himself with the best of the best.
And to think I was gonna have bacon and eggs for breakfast when my husband wakes up! Hmmm looks like its gonna be banana bread flavored oatmeal instead.

-
Nic- SOS isn't equal to the VP. Biden would still have power over Hillary, although she'd report to Obama. Biden might be in the position of being a go between with Hillary and Obama and delivering his message to her during times when Obama was focusing on other things. Biden has far more foreign experience than Hillary, having served in different chairmenship capacities over his years as senate. Hillary does have the personal relationships that Biden doesn;t have with some leaders from her days as first lady. The SOS position is probably the highest cabinet member, particularly in times of war, although the secretaries in the finance area will be quite prominent in the months to come. I agree that Obama is surrounding himself with the best of the best and showing his confidence by appointing strong personalities. He said during the campaign he wants people who will disagree with him and she's not shy about doing that. I hope my fears are unfounded and that she's the best SOS we've ever had.
summer- Palin was asked by the cameraman if she wanted to move and she said it was fine. I'm sure she'll say it was a set up at some point, like the prank phone call, but I think this is just a case of her being out of touch with what most people find palpable on tv.
g- I laughed when I read your comments because I used the term "attention seeking whore" all the time (not just for Palin). The term can apply to men and women.
-
Hi everyone:
I saw part of the Palin interview and as soon as I saw the turkey upside down with it's head being shoved in that bucket, I had to turn it off. I was very upset by the sight of it. I am still having tukey this week....go figure. I didn't need to see that though. Palin still sounds like she is campaigning. I am really sick of the same speech over and over...."this great mation of ours...blah blah blah..."
I have also seen the Sarah McLachlan video.....can't watch that either.....it's a tear jerker.
Ok, about the auto industry bailout... I have such mixed feelings about it. The people who are ultimately going to be screwed here are the people who do the actual work...not the morons that run the show. That's the only reason. The economy is bad enough, but how many more jobs will be lost if the gov't allows the "big 3" to go under? I wish they could figure out some way to help the workers without letting the greedy sob's at the top get another nickel. Just my two cents.
Not sure how I feel about the Clinton choice for Secretary of State. Too much negotiating going on...about paying off more of her campign debt before she says yes.... I don't know....
Ok, lastly....Joh Edwards is trying to "make a comeback" ...are you kidding me?? I used to like him early on...but he did himself in. People have affairs, I get it...what bugs the crap out of me is that he held himself up as a moral compass with Elizabeth by his side and all the while he is messing around with that loony tune.....he needs to go away quickly. If his wife and children want to forgive him and work through this, that's great and I applaud them that they can look past this to keep their family intact....as far as politics go...he is DONE...no credibility...
Ok, I am done with my rant... hope all is well for everyone (on both threads)
Maureen
-
Oh...Little G....CONGRATS!!!!! I hate waiting for test results....I am so happy that you got good news!!!
-
Maureen- long time no see! I don't like what Edwards cheating but I can see him doing a lot of good in the future for health care and the poor. To me cheating on his wife doesn't mean he can't be an effective public servant. I doubt we'll ever know what was missing in the relationship that caused Edwards to stray, but to me that's private and not for me to judge. Imagine if we knew about either of the Kennedy cheating or any of the other numerous presidents and politicians who cheated.
-
Why would anyone give a man or woman the "excuse" to stray by saying something was missing in the relationship? I don't get it. Egoes get fed and people cheat. People cheat while drinking water from the water fountain. There is no excuse if one takes their marriage vows seriously. I'm going public and saying that it happened to me many, many years ago and it's like someone stuck a knife in your heart. Unless one has been in a realtionship one cannot know the hurt. And the blame game..no. If there's a problem get out and then hook up with the other person. As Dr. Phil says..finish one business before you start another.
Shirley
Still haven't watched the turkey video. Palin doesn't have trouble with killing animals that they eat. I eat them, but I don't kill them. So, I suppose that doesn't make me much different from her.
-
Someone commented that they didn't understand serving an animal with the head on the table.
In some cultures they will put the head of the chicken on the plate of the "head of the household" or the honored guest. The reason for the head of the chicken, duck, etc would be to ensure the animal was killed and prepared properly ie that the head was cut off or at least that it was properly bled. Some cultures will strangle the duck or chicken and leave the blood inside while to others (like Jewish religions and some others) they must let the blood drain. I think with the pig's head and body, you can see that the animal was healthy and large and you are getting the whole pig, not parts of different pigs...
-
Amy..I agree with you on the Edward's deal. It was the same with Clinton. People cheat everyday. In all walks of life. In every building you step in. I want someone who can get the job done. What happens behind their closed doors is not my business. I'm not saying its not sad to the other person, or to the relationship. I'm sure it is. But because someone has an affair outside of their marriage does not mean that person is not capable of doing the job they were hired to do. In my opinion, Clinton did an excellent job. He happened to get a blow job from someone other than Hillary along the way. To me, that did not deter from the job he did. And that was his and Hillary's issues, not ours. It is not for me to judge him or forgive him on that.

-
rm- interesting--- I guess if I had grown up in that kind of culture I wouldn't be so skeeved out about it now.
g- My issue with clinton was the lie/coverup because to me the president has to be the example of law abiding citizens. Marion Jones, with a 6 month old, lied under oath about taking steroids, she went to jail. Scooter Libby lied under oath and he got his sentence commuted by Bush. Clinton lied under oath and.... he bacame late night comedians fodder. That doesn't cut it for me. His mistake was in not refusing to answer personal questions. Marriages are complicated and it's way too easy, as you said, to see one person as the victim and the other as the bad one based on what little we know on the outside. What circumstances in the marriage led one to feel s/he couldn't meet needs inside the relationship and had to go else where? What lack of communication allowed the situation to occur? Were one of both of the parties emotionally unavailable? Cheating isn't as simple as me tarzan, you jane, this is always good and this is always bad. Life has more shades of gray than blacks and whites. That's just looking at traditional m/f m/m and f/f relationships. I have a friend who's a psychologist in the bay area and she was educating me about polyamorous relationships. She's a lot more liberal than me on that front and I'm not convinced that even with open communication, open marriages can be healthy, despite what she's said. I have to read up on the psychological dynamics and talk to people in such relationships to make my own decision. She says they key is open communication and talking about the other lovers so there isn't any jealousy etc. I had a different friend who's husband was ok with her having female sexual relationships outside of the marriage, just as long as they weren't guys. She was a psychological mess and in her case that didn't seem healthy because she got the emotional intimacy from the female lover that she didn't get from her husband so she just stopped trying with him and left the marriage at a status quo. Anyway, I digress.

I am sorry that so many of us are having our Thanksgiving dinner ruined by Sarah Palin. I am glad I didn't watch the video.
I am going to eat turkey on Thanksgiving and I am not going to give up meat this week, although I am going to think about it next week. One thing we have been doing is to eat only free range chickens and cage free animals. At least that way, you can think of them as having a short but happy life. And some of them wouldn't have a life if we didn't raise them. Cage free chickens actually taste better!
We have a lot to be thankful about this Thanksgiving, so eat, be merry, drink wine and ENJOY!!!

I thought the turkey video was a hoot. SNL could not do better no matter how they tried.
I am not a vegetarian and I know perfectly well that the meat I eat has not had a happy life nor a graceful exit. I've always rather liked game meats for that reason. People can vilify hunters but if I were given the choice I'd rather live free for a while and scrounge about for food than be confined in a feed lot and be stuffed with hormone laden reprocessed protein. -
Amy..I agree with alot of the things you said. But I feel as though he should not have had to answer questions on sexual relations. And..not for nothing..but now he's in front of a camera having to answer something that should have nothing to do with us. Should he have lied, no. But the question should never have been posed. And I guess that's why I feel like I do. The US public is not his judge and jury where his sex life, or anyone else's is concerned. As long as it is between two consenting adults, and that it was. We can probably go on with many different scenarios and I also know people who have open relationships. This is all a very tricky balancing act based on how your mental attitude about it is, at any given time. The mind is a very complex thing. I don't think it functions the exact same from one day to the next. I just don't think his relations should have had anything to do with anything, unless they could have proved he was somehow compromising US intelligence or some other issues that have to do with the rest of us. If not, it is what it is.
Linora...I'm going to take my bird out of the freezer today. I am having a usual TG. It was just the absurdity of this woman. At least have some idea of what the hell you're doing! But, I agree...lets all eat, drink and be merry for a week!! It will all be here when we're done!
-
But the question should never have been posed
There ya go...to me THAT is the way we should all feel. I don't think the president of an airline would be asked this? The president of my company where I work? Nope. Frankly, I like the "don't ask, don't tell" policy for everyone's sexual choices. Your bedroom business is none of mine.
I just plain don't like Edwards, he's too slick .. slimy in my book. Was his affair bad? Yes. But if he was a good leader, I'd vote for him.
I will say it again: if Bill Clinton was allowed to be Pres again, I'd vote for him. I don't really care that he lied about that. My life, my pocketbook, my country, my state, my neighbors, we were all doing fantastic.
-
Did anyone see the latest on Joe the Plumber? He got a book dealer for something like a quarter of a million dollars. Boy his little question and being in the right place at the right time made his day!
-
I wonder who the idiots are that offered him this book deal, and who is the target audience? What can this guy possibly have to offer that is so compelling it warrants to be put into a published book? Put that in the "to hard to stomach" file along with the Palin video. Can you really imagine this crap is what was running to lead our country? Incredible. Do us all a favor "Joe" don't kill innocent trees to make paper for your book! Just use a roll of toilet paper. ..that's what that book will be worth in the long run.
Roctobermom..I was happy during Clinton years too!
-
g- I think if Clinton hadn't answered reporters in the first place, saying the infamous "I did not have sexual relations with that woman"- things would have never gotten so far as to go to the grand jury. He shouldn't have had to answer those questions unless Monica was claiming sexual harassment which was never the case.
g- The idiots who offered Joe the plumber the book deal are probably among the idiots who will be willing to spend $25 bucks to read about, you betcha, Sarah Palin.. People bought the evil Ann Coulter's books- but at least Coulter, who may be morally reprehensible, has a brain. That guy is pathetic. Imagine a Palin/Joe the Plumber ticket in 2012--- I'm sure he has in those private moments in the bathroom.

Yes, I'm sure he has and does!!

Obama to Take On Torture?
By Michael Isikoff | NEWSWEEK Published Nov 22, 2008
From the magazine issue dated Dec 1, 2008....one idea that has currency among some top Obama advisers is setting up a 9/11-style commission that would investigate counterterrorism policies and make public as many details as possible. "At a minimum, the American people have to be able to see and judge what happened," said one senior adviser, who asked not to be identified talking about policy matters. The commission would be empowered to order the U.S. intelligence agencies to open their files for review and question senior officials who approved "waterboarding" and other controversial practices......

Oh Geez, if Clinton ran again (and if Obama were out of the picture) he'd win by a landslide!!!
Just think, if you were going to a cocktail party, who would you most like to talk to...Bill Clinton, Dick Cheney, Obama, or George McCain? I'd pick Bill, although Obama would be pretty cool too now that I think about it.
I think Congress had no business prying into BC's (not Breast Cancer, Bill Clinton) private life. Those questions about his sexual life were completely out of line. I felt so sorry for Bill...he could not in public admit to all these intimate details of his life without wrecking his family. Even Ann Landers advised people to lie about cheating. No one in the world has to or wants to talk about their private sex lives!! The Republicans were just getting back at the Democrats for Nixon's impeachment. We all know that JFK had lots of affairs...we all ignored that and turned our heads the other way because he was a great president. What would have happened in the Bay of Pigs if we had decided to focus, instead, on one of his many affairs?
Well...I know this is not a particularly popular opinion, but I have never liked Hillary because I feel she was nearly as responsible for her husband's infidelity as he was. I think she married him out of political ambition and she was cold...but that is just my personal gut feeling ...

At a cocktail party ... I'd like to talk to Bill Clinton, find out what he thought would help America get back on track, but I don't think I'd ever be friends with either Clinton ... I do think they are liars. Obama? Hmm... I think I would start talking about MLK and slaves and how proud people are of him and start crying (just because I didn't vote for him doesn't mean I don't see and think this is a huge moment in history) ... so no, I'd avoid embarrassing myself. Sorry, I think he is a liar too so I would not want to be friends in real life with him. Again, just because they lie doesn't mean that they will automatically be a bad president. Cheney, I'd probably throw a drink in his face for getting us in so much trouble and for the wars. Obviously I would NEVER want to be friends with the money grubbing Cheney. McCain? I'd like to see how he is going to finish his term as a Senator and what's next. The McCains sound like nice people and Cindy has done some good work in poor nations, I'd like to be friends with her.
