I saw that this morning.  What a stilted delivery, too.  And, besides, there's already a government site devoted to answering questions about the digital changeover - for free.  I'm just waiting for hime to disappear (SP, too).

Hurray for the FLA judge's ruling! I'm doing the happy dance! Will be glad when all these anti-gay "rules" are found unconstitutional. Cool

Funny how Joe the Plumber is now Joe the Electronics Expert!  I actually think it's delicious that he's talking about the conversion info being available in various languages, for all those non-English speaking immigrants out there.  And that the govt. will be giving vouchers to people who can't afford the converter box.  It's so . . . socialistic of him.

I'm happy too for the Florida ruling!  And Keith reported yesterday that a new poll of CA voters indicates that if the election were held today, Prop 8 wouldn't win.  Speaking out does have an effect.  We should never be silent.

Hahaha LAP- at least he's capable of reading from a teleprompter. I was surprised when I heard our activism changed peoples' minds and that they finally realized what the impact of taking away our civil rights would be. They percentage who shifted seemed to have figured out they were snowballed from the right campaign lies.

I was talking with some folks about the next step in getting our equal rights and we think that a lot of the education and pull should come from our straight friends, families, and allies- since they might be able to communicate why gay marriage isn't so scary better than we can. Keith's special message about gay marriage meant a lot more, coming from a heterosexual than it would have from a gay person because he was preaching to his own.

I just wanted to pop in and say that the FL ruling is more of a victory for the children ...  children need loving homes NOT orphanages. I am glad there was a smart judge in FL.

    Signed,

Rocktobermom, I promise I am still Replublican!!

I agree with you RM, but I also don't think that our civil rights should be grantedbecause it's a victory or beneficial for someone else. I'm thrilled that there are waiting children who will now be adopted, but even if there were no waiting kids, this would still be a very important step in granting the rights which are being denied to us, IMHO.

No, not saying that, just that regardless of what a personal belief is ... lots of people don't believe in gays rights ... for me, I grew up in SF, had gays as best friends, even shared a bed with my best friend who was a guy, we laughed it was just like a sleepover from high school, I lived ONE block away from 18th and Castro, the heart of it all, but I digress, I am saying that I am happy for the kids, more than for gays.  Notice I said MORE THAN .. so I am happy for them, happy for people who want to be parents.   For others, disagree though they may, they should really try to see it from the children's vantage point ... I think it would be a tragedy to leave a child in an orphanage when there is a loving home just wanting him/her to be there.

I know what you mean, RM and I agree that those who don't agree with those rights can perhaps think of the children. How old were you when Harvey Milk was killed? Do you remember it? What was it like there?

    HELLO GALS...

Just poppin in to say hello and wish you all a nice Thanksgiving tomorrow.  I've been  busy over at that Robert Reich blogspot talking about how to get this country of the financial mess it's in.  We been debating whether or not we need to throw more money into the auto industry or build a new more energy-efficient train system, a la europe..  It's gotten to be quite a lively discussion.. over 160 posts since Monday and quite civilized.  You can say what you think and nobody goes postal.

Well, we had an interesting turn of events at home last night.  The furnace died.   Called the 24 hour number and someone came out this morning, said we needed a part, and the temperature has been steadily dropping.  It is now 57 degrees upstairs and 55 downstairs.  The temperature is supposed to plunge to below freezing tonite with more snow.   DH and are both wearing several layers of sweaters, hats and scarves.  I sure hope the part comes before tonite...

Please send us positive vibes and WARM wishes!!!

Tomorrow we having dinner at a friends, but our three kitties will have to stay home.  I  hope they will be warm enough.

Amy, I was a junior in high school when Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk were murdered. There was an announcement on our PA system. We went to Catholic high school ...girls only, we were in class and the nun started leading us in prayer.  We were all crying.  The Mayor lived a few blocks away from us and my girlfriend, Chris, was dating Chris, the Mayor's son, a senior, also in Catholic school. She happened to be sitting next to me at the time.  My dad worked right there at City Hall, he was an attorney in the City Attorneys office.  We didn't know who was doing the shooting or how many more victims there would be.

    Hey Gals,

Some friends of ours...new friends who recently moved here from DC have invited us to share their apartment in DC.  He still works in DC while she lives in a house on a lake here...they get together on weekends.  Well, at dinner yesterday, I was telling him how much DH & I would like to emulate their lifestyle...having two homes, getting to go to DC, and we got invited!!! We'll have to sleep in the living room but who cares! I am very excited.

Planes tickets are already pretty scarce to I think we're going to go by car.  We'll do the Grand Tour that we couldn't do this summer when gasoline prices were high, and visit friends and relatives along the way.

That's great Linora! Do you have actual tickets to the inaugartion?  I don't know anyone who was able to score those tickets. Maybe we'll get to see each other in DC,.

Tickets to the Inauguration are very hard to come by, but many people are going without them.  We don't have tickets, but I have put in a request to our Senator, mentioning that we were active in the Obama campaign.  It's probably a pretty futile request, if our Senator has any pull, there might be a slim possibility.

Amy, I will see Milk but not til its out on video ...  movies are too expensive for me right now. Maybe a pay per view .... or when it's on cable. We save money for movies with my Ginger Snap ...she enjoys the movies sooo much, it's her thing! I've finally broken her of the habit of popcorn and candy at the movies so we bring in a candy bar in my purse for her and buy a large soda to share.

I can't remember the last movie I went to see. I think it was notes on a scandal. I was hoping it might be on comcast, they have IFC movies the same day they're released at 6.99. I usually splurge for the popcorn, because I only go every year or two and I like the whole experience.

Linora- I don't think anyone's senator is getting back to her, because I haven't heard anyone who scored the tickets. I think tickets are going to be rather pointless since they're giving out tens of thousands. I'm sure they'll have the it on the jumbotrons.

In NY, Sen Schumer is holding a lottery for tickets. Requests have to be made by midnight tonight and the drawing is on 12/5. I'm not sure if other state lotteries have been held yet which may be why you haven't heard of anyone getting tickets yet, Amy...

I will felicia. This would be an awesome opportunity for your son!

Has anyone heard about the right wing nuts who are claiming Obama's birth certificate is a forgery? Several idiots have filed lawsuit saying that Obama was born in Kenya, not the USA  and they've also run full page ads in newspapers, including one in chicago yesterday. Apparently the numbnuts will stop at nothing to spread lies, feigning patriotism as the reason. Racism is alive and well and living in the crazy people. I'm all for free speech, but that doesn't necessitate that newspapers publishing ads from the worst of society.
