    Mornin' Cave Chicks!!!

IT'S CONFESSIONAL/INDISCRETION/GONE VEGAS MONDAY once again……the day guaranteed to make you regret the morning after the night before lol!!

The Canada Day celebrations kept me firmly out of Vegas I'm happy to report. My caveman and I did the B&B thing on Saturday night and we had a splendiferous dinner at one of our fav out of town restaurants. Dessert was a beet mousse concoction that was so delicious that I searched it out online and found a gem of a recipe that I'll try and post here on foodie Friday (NO there won't be crickets involved) The mousse was not only delicious, but so pretty on a plate! My Indulgences…..a deeply wonderful Malbec and a wee bit o'cheese.

My caveman looooooves his cheese, so on his last birthday I bought him a 'foodie cheese of the month subscription'. It's delivered to our door and is paired with neato accompaniments (like spiced olives & such). Great gift for cheese lovers. Well so far it's been awesome, but this time they included a chunk of Brie de Meaux. OH EM GEE…..This cheese ranks as # 5 of 10 on the world's smelliest cheese scale. I love strong even stinky cheese, but this abomination had an odor that competes with the sewers of Rangoon!! AGGGGGGG! It starts out nice, like a brie and then you're punched in the nose with a gaseous smell/taste that could be used to kill rats!! AWFUL!!! We triple wrapped it and stuck it back in the fridge. When we opened the fridge door in the morning it smelled like we were storing Jimmy Hoffa's body in there since 1975!! All this through triple wrapping!! We ended up throwing it out in an outdoor garbage as we didn't want to be charged with the hotel maid's death. Dear lord, I swear I can still smell it. GAK!

Vamp – As to your ER/PR/HER %, call your MO, they must have this from your final path. My % was only briefly mentioned. Seems our American buddies are given so much more info, while we find out the hard way. LE wasn't even mentioned to me by my MO….how wrong is that?? LOL@ apologizing to plants…..I've done the same and often feel sorry for them when it's raining hard. Come fall I want to send sympathy cards to them.

Cowgirl – I'd rather a steak too LOL!! Just make sure there aren't any crickets stuck in your BBQ! I replied to your PM sorry it took so long, the weekend was nuts!

TwoH – Showing us all that visiting Vegas can be kept to a dull roar….and you should be proud of your tortilla caper! Congrats on the lowest weight!!!!…..feels so good eh? I'm with you on the dairy issue, and do love Sisson's primal outlook. He tends to look at both sides nutritionally speaking. Probably why he's my fav guru. There are many responsible brands to choose from and Dairygold is def one of them. Oh the tax scandal, it's sickening to think of who they do get…seniors or peeps with mental health issues. They should be force fed that cheese I had on the weekend!! PS…I roared laughing at your ant offer!!! I'll let you know when I'm ready.

Ingerp – Costco has been a godsend for wild caught/grass fed/hormone free etc…meats & seafood here. Not easy to find these things up here in Canuckland. Sorry(lol). There is a farm I make a trip out to every few months, that raise (responsibly) regular and some weirdo cuts as well. Can't wait to try roasted peacock this fall!

JKL (JFK lol)LOOK AT YOU GO!! DAY 7!! Amazing work girlfriend!!! So glad you're finding the post workout snack helpful. I'm thinking you might be reporting some great news soon. As for my sanity, meh, it's been questioned by those around me for years and they've come to the same conclusion as you…..I have cricket brain lol!

Pixi – Thanks for the well wishes….I raised my glass to you and all Canada Day! How have you been doing?

Sas – So sorry about the computer…utterly sucks!! Most things are not wiped from a computer until it's overwritten. Can you take your computer in for data recovery? My son recovered a lot of info from a blown pc after he mangled it virtually. How you doing my friend? Saw your post in steamroom. Will reply there. Hugs!

About the cricket - honest, the stuff was SO good. Holds a candle to the protein level in beef. 2.5 tbsp added to anything (soup/stew/where ever you can slip it in) has 100% of B12 for the day, 1 carb. Would be tasteless in a lot of cooking, or slight nutty flavor in baked goods. It's also an environmentally stellar food production wise. Yeah, I know, forget it Egads, go back to the looney bin :))))

Soooooooooo…….what say you all? Some Vegas? Half Vegas? Full Monty? Enquiring minds wanna' know

    .

Completely and totally fell off the wagon the last 5 days..Ice cream a couple of days, chips and salsa, gin and tonic, rum... and bread.. and I am certainly paying for it.. stomach has been a bit wonky.. nothing serious, just a reminder why I gave up a lot of the stuff in the first place.

and this heat isn't helping.. staying indoors and drinking my water, but still that little heavy chest thing going.. not drastic, just enough to notice.. sigh...

back on the wagon today.. had my good breakfast, packed my good lunch...hopefully will make it to the gym later...

expecting a quiet week at work...many on vacation..

I'm doing well Egads! I'm back doing an exercise program with a higher ratio of intense cardio this month so I have to recalibrate my eating so as not to disappear. Still trying to figure out what's best for me and worst for my hormone positive cancer. Making mostly healthy choices and throwing caution to the wind a couple times a week. That's my way of staying happy in the game.

Looks like I'm next in line for the confessional. Apparently I can't eat smart for even a single week without cheating! I stumbled twice; once I had a huge spoonful of peanut butter (I was making cookies to send my vegan DGD &, well, it's yummy peanut butter) & the other time I had a cup of Greek yogurt with some strawberries & blueberries (seems Chick-Fil-A doesn't have a lot of paleo breakfast options - who knew?). I enjoyed both slips immensely (& have no regrets) but will try to keep future indiscretions to a minimum.

The good news is that I'M DOWN 6 POUNDS!!! I keep getting back on the scale to see my new & improved weight because I haven't lost this much in a week since I was in my 20s (I think Richard Nixon was president!) & I did a week on Atkins so I could rock a bikini in Majorca. Even better than the weight loss, I picture my blood pressure, blood sugar & arthritis improving with every paleo bite! (As a matter of fact, my bp readings last week were the lowest I've had in years!) I'm enough of a convert that last night I turned down homemade chocolate cupcakes with salted caramel frosting at my son's house (& he is an AMAZING baker)!

My only complaint is that I'm spending a lot more time in the kitchen. Seems my old habits included a lot of (processed) shortcuts. Oh, well, it will be worth it. I started my second AI (Aromasin) yesterday so I really want to do all I can to combat any SEs in my future.

How did my "first week on Paleo" sisters do? Cowgal, didn't we start this together? Hope you all had similarly successful results.

Off to the gym now! Have a great day, all!

Well I went to a country concert this weekend. Unfortunately you could not leave and come back and could not bring any food items in. So I cheated with french fries, didn't think the tiny bun-less burger would fill me up. I am still up 2lbs according to my scale.... must be the fries oh and the mill chocolate chips I may have indulged in on Saturday night. I am not upset at myself because it could have been way worse for cheating, just disappointed the scalen isn't moving.

So Mondays are for confessing? Hmmmm. . . still allowing myself quite a few treats but I haven't drunk alkyhol or missed a gym day since my boy left last Wednesday. I think that's good pour moi. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed my blood counts continue to be okay--still eating beef 4-5 times/week, and doing a <granted super sugary, not great source of protein> pre-made protein shake every day (I drink it throughout the day a bit at a time). Back into an egg a day, trying to stretch that to two at least some days. Not sure when I'll get back on a scale. I turn the other way at tx and will probably continue the treats through rads (and my potential end-of-September vacation??). But then, darn it, we're bumping up against my late-October birthday-Thanksgiving-Christmas Feast of Food and Drink. Maybe 2019 is my year. ;-)

Map – Full throttle Vegas, hope you're not beating yourself up for it, and that you enjoyed! Part of this whole thing is peace of mind. The important thing is that you're back on track. Falling off hits my tummy hard on the few occasions I've purposely let it happen, I hear ya there!

Pixi – Definitely recalibrate for exercise…we don't want you disappearing, we'd miss you!! :) Here's a link you might find interesting re: constant cardio (high levels of cals burned per week)

    https://www.marksdailyapple.com/a-case-against-cardio-part-27/

It's going to make a post of mine soon. Let us know how the cardio upgrade goes!

JKL - #1 – WOOT!!!!! YOU LOST 6 LBS!!!!! WOOT!!!! The initial loss is amazing isn't it? I woke my family up the first week shouting like a mad woman and wanted to frame a pic of the scale numbers. So happy for you! Gawwwwd, I remember Nixon getting on that helicopter and flashing the double peace sign….don't even want to think of how long ago that was. Congrats on your BP….wait until you see the blood work next time…you'll be framing the report lol! #2 Your cheats actually have some great nutritional profiles. The berries are perfect. Dairy is approved in paleo/primal if you don't suffer GI issues and your body deals with it well, peeps should just stick to the organic type as much as poss. Besides, you did the best thing in a restaurant situation. I've been caughtoff guard outside the house and you did exactly what I would have done….choose the best of a bad bunch. Peanut butter, again, great nutrition, and I wish it was a nut and not a legume….thing is you got a whack of good stuff along with the bad. All in all I'd call that a quick Vegas visit with a lil' roulette spin lol. I'm interested in your AL journey….I'm due for the switch up in December.

Vamp- The real doozie about fries is generally the veg oil they fry in, the potato itself is still paleo….kinda carby and sweet potato is better, but still an occasional ok option.Really glad you're not upset about it….again, peace of mind is worth it's weight in gold. You'll see that scale drop as clean eating time goes on. How you been feeling? Breathing etc. Who played the concert??

Ingerp – tx is a fully paid (including comp'd room) trip to Vegas (Vegas is non-paleo/primal eating hereon the thread….what happens there stays there). You do whatever you please, and by all accounts you're doing A LOT better than I did tx. My exercise consisted of raising my fork to my mouth….nom nom! Doesn't help that peeps are shoving ice cream in your face all the time *looks around innocently, whistles a tune*. 2019…good goal setting idea. I'll set that date for my worm meal fiasco. :))))

All - Dark choc......melt and add sweetner of choice.....drizzle on things, make small chocs out of them. Eating full bore tastes somewhat like Satan's backside!

Ingerp and Egads - you too crack me up. I look forward to reading this thread mostly for your banter back and forth.

JKL - Congrats! 6lbs is an amazing number for the first week! You go girl!

The concert was sooooo much fun. We seen a lot of things that really should be left to the imagination - Seen a group of guys and 1 girl mooning for a picture. ROFLOL. On Saturday we seen Emerson Drive, Lanco, Dean Brody and the love of my life Dierks Bently. On Sunday we seen the end of Chase Rice, Tim Hicks and Dustin Lynch. What a fantastic weekend!!! I had so much fun - hopefully to be repeated next year.

Tonight is my first night of Aquafit - can't wait! Breathing has been good, no issues at all... YAY!

I made Keto glazed donuts yesterday from that recipe book I got - they are terrible! Definitely look better than they taste, but I am so cheap I put them in the freezer and just ate one frozen - a tad better.

Ok cave chicks.....this is Vamp's beloved Dierks Bently:

    image

It's glaringly obvious.....the dude is paleo. Oh yeah. Mmmmmmm huh. Bet he eats cricket muffins...and not the keto donuts....i'm going to make him a batch. :)))))))

Edited to add: Vamp, concert sounds awesome! Keto donuts, don't tell me, kinda wet and greasy in the middle? Almond flour only? That's not cheap, baking this way is PRICY, I would have frozen too....crumble into big pieces and top with a few berries and coconut whipped cream.

Thanks for the kind words, Egads, but I'm still not eating crickets or worms!

Oh, yum! (Dierks Bently, not the donuts!) Vamp, the concert sounds great. I'm sure it was worth the food cheats! (BTW, I made paleo sweet potato fries & they were great!) Pls think about sharing any good paleo recipes you try; my repertoire is pretty limited since I'm just starting.

Ingerp, I didn't need chemo & am mightily impressed by all of you who go through it with such grace. And if you keep exercising through chemo & rads - you clearly have superpowers!

MAP, hope you feel better soon!

The donut part isn't too bad actually, it's the icing made with that horrible 100% cocoa. I uses coconut flour. I thought they would be a quick fix when I am in a hurry. Are they really that bad to eat? It's only 2 net carbs....

Yeah he's not eating crickets when he shot gun a beer on stage! Lol

I love sweet potatoes, for some reason I thought I couldn't have them. Yes, my naturalpath said it's a no no due to carbs.

Dierks just called, he's only interested in JKL's sweet potato fries :( apparently they pair better with beer *sigh*

Vamp - if you're using artificial sweetener, stevia or even a touch of honey you can add it to the glaze. Save them for a day you're on the low carb end..I can imagine straight cocoa is blech. No they aren’t bad at all...2 net carbs is awesome for treats!Sweet potato is a paleo staple that I eat 1-2 times per week...especially when I have fish, or workout days. 1/2 a sweet potato runs 12 net carbs....full of good stuff too. If you’re still doing 20 net per day, just keep the carbs light on other meals.

JKL - check out the links in my original post (at bottom) those sites have tons of recipes. My caveman is particularly fond of sweet potato fries....they are so good, glad you found them!

Egads - I am doing around 30-40 net carbs a day, 20 is too restricting if a mini cucumber is going to cost me 5 net carbs! lol

I came down with a sore throat yesterday so no aquafit last night. I feel awful, must have picked up something at the concert - still totally worth it. haha

In regards to the sweet potato fries any ways on getting them crispy?

Our air is not working so my oven is staying off till it's fixed or cools down! Avocado egg salad for dinner!

Pixi - LOL, I never in my life would have imagined me in a gym...EVER. My MIL refers to us as 'health nuts'. Said it a few times and it started getting under my skin (she eats terribly)…..sooooo, I called her a 'unhealth nut' one day. She got the point lol. Actually she's wonderful person whom I love dearly...even when she eats like crap :))))))

Vamp - OMG girlfriend, no air! Ugggggg! Sorry about the throat! Probably got it from screaming "Dierk...come home with me, I have your donuts!!" :))))) The sweet potato is hard to get crisp, but I've had luck by deep frying stove top in a 1/2" coconut oil or baking at 450F...not advisable with no air. You'll get a crisp outside, soft inside. LOL Avocado egg salad rocks my world!!!

TWO CENT TUESDAY aka SPEAK YOUR MIND...….

I've noticed a number of recent posts on a few other threads that speak to the issue of denying oneself life's food pleasures. Generally the food pleasures commented on refer to what most of us would consider junk food, specifically coke (not the nasal type) and things like donuts (NOT Vamp's type of donut). These posts disturb me. While I absolutely agree with the need for treats and encourage life's little indulgences, I stop and scratch my head in confusion at the comments. The party line, IMHO, seems to fully endorse junk on an almost regular basis and appear to justify with a group cry of "if I want it, I'll have it" or the ever popular "I've been through enough, I deserve it". They are correct, to a great degree we do deserve…..but daily? (does not apply to those in treatment or hospice...those peeps can do what they want)

I'm no angel, I've had a few diet cokes myself, very rarely. Difference is, I'm not going to post about it and declare it a good choice just because I've been hard done to by cancer. If you post that you had a coke and a donut my response wouldn't encourage you to do it again tomorrow. I sincerely don't judge and understand the choice, live and let live, but I'm not going to pat you on the back either. My aim would be to encourage you to keep to a dull roar. Most disturbing is the fact that these 'treats' they speak of are some of the most chemical/glucose laden type that are deadly for BC (type of sugars), and the feeling of 'way to go!' in their words…..very disturbing. I'd be scared to death of replying with 'gee, why not try a home baked treat instead' , lol, I'd probably be tarred and feathered. Honestly, when I look back at all I've been through, I too feel that I deserve…..but deserve better…..at least on a regular basis.

What say you all? Agree, disagree, tar and feather me? Feel free to post your own thoughts on a subject Don't hold back…..this is a safe place where freedom of thought is highly encouraged…..just not served with donuts & coke please. :))))

Egads, I go back and forth from "I don't care, I want it" and I want to stay healthy. I'm forever trying to balance healthy. I would like to say, if i have a "treat", its going to be worth it. Humans have been eating dairy for thousands of years, it can't be totally bad..... but lately except for half and half in my daily coffee and the occasional ice cream and cheese, I don't have much of it. Not a milk drinker, miss my yogurt. I try to eat clean, no processed stuff. not always easy.

I can tell you that my attitude towards food prep has changed drastically in the past 2 years since my weight loss before diagnosis. I swear that my weight loss help me find my lump quicker. So, I do eat much healthier than I ever did, but still not 100%. but dare I say, better than average?? I do look at all the crap in the supermarket, all that processed food, frozen foods.. and think bleh...

I also try to get to the gym at least 3-5 times a week. Hopefully that is balancing the bad stuff.

Its all a work in progress.

Map - heh heh....I'm starting to think we were separated at birth. I go thru the grocery store mentally saying "ewwww! oh yuck,! are they nuts, look at the carbs! Blech! I can't pronounce that ingredient!" I wonder what my face shows? Not surprising that people move away :)))

Ok, so I'm hoping I didn't give anyone the impression that drinking a coke once in a while was a cardinal sin. Map's root beer...go for it. It's occasional and gives amazing peace of mind, always a good thing! You're right, it's not always easy, and flip flopping makes us very human, me included. What was disturbing me was the tone of the posts. Another one I didn't mention basically slammed healthy diet/exercise regimes saying 'it won't do any good anyway'. Yes, fit and healthy eating people get cancer, yes genetics play a huge roll, yes it's sometimes a crap shoot, but I'll defend a healthy lifestyle to the death for improving odds....not just for cancer but all the other nasties people suffer. A healthy body has better immune fighting ability, that can't be disputed. I guess I was feeling a defeatist tone in the posts that IMHO justified constant junk......no way,. no how, do I think anyone shouldn't treat themselves. I think our ancestors did whenever a bee hive was found. We haven't changed that much! :)

DONUTS hit the garbage can this am! I thought why on earth am I eating these god awful things, I am not enjoying them. Mistake made, a little cash wasted, time to move forward and not make those again. lol

I totally understand where you are coming from and I get where they are coming from too, but if changing your eating can only help to improve your health and how you feel why wouldn't you want to try it. Our grandparents did not eat as much processed crap that society is eating today. All those take out places can't be good and people have gotten lazy. I have a friend who was told almost a year and a half ago to go LCHF as it would lower the amount of inflammation in her body and possibly lessen the pain she was in. Did she do it? Nope. She uses the excuse of her family to feed and hockey. She's a stay at home mom on disability and I get shes in pain, but she's lazy. Does nothing to help herself, zero exercise and lot's of excuses. The latest excuse was she couldn't start now they were going to the cottage, told her I was going camping and just planned on prepping my meals and snacks for myself.

The air guy is suppose to come between 1 - 5, I need a nap so bad and I bet as soon as I lie down he will come knocking!

Why is it ok to have goats cheese or am I wrong and that's a no no too?

Just and FYI I still hate my scale as it refuses to move! Still the same and other than this weekend my calories are much lower than they were before. I think I should just blame the Tamoxifen! I guess I can be happy it's not climbing.

Egads I am not paleo but I am a foodie and I love your posts. Laughter is great medicine with no harmful side effects and this thread is a riot! It is also supportive and accepting.

Diet is a bit like religion, an emotional topic that brings out strong opinions. I accept whatever our sisters choose as their path either for treatment or for lifestyle, as long as they know the risks. Some people want to enjoy the short term pleasures while others are more cautious and controlled. I am of the latter persuasion and feel fabulous eating clean (by my hybrid diet definition), feeling light on my feet and buying clothes a size smaller. I like to imagine I am starving cancer cells or putting them into a permanent coma. And daily exercise gives me a rush of endorphins that lifts my mood on this all too scary road.

We are all different but I wish sisters who choose another path wouldn't mock us for our disciplined approach. We are all struggling to find the best way to live our changed lives.

Going to drink my green tea now 😊.

Vamp - I hear ya', and feel your pain. I don't even want to think about the wasted hard earned buck I've tossed in the bin.....one epic failure was bread....I knew I was in trouble when the smell from the oven was distinctly 'omelette-esk'. I've come a long way but every once in a while....FAIL!! Goats milk has less casein, less lactose, and fewer digestive issues will be caused by it. It's also the closest to human breast milk so a good choice. Regular is ok too if you don't have GI issues or a high % of hormonal tumour status. Full fat is best (slightly lower carbs, and sugars are processed much more efficiently re: insulin), no need for you to worry about organic, Canada has a strict ban on added hormones & antibiotics in milk. Choice on dairy is basically a personal one. I have a few friends like yours, excuses excuses, and yes, lazy. I try not to judge, but find it hard when they get sarcastic about my choices. Meh, I try to love em' for them, and not their food. It really is a two way street at the end of the day. I'm blethering aren't I? :))))

DearLife - Hello & welcome! Very glad you get a chuckle out of our little community of cave chicks! Fun is our main course. I'm so hoping you're a vegetarian.....are you??? I'm dying for a vegan or vegetarian to join us.....think of the recipe exchange :))) Actually there hasn't been a recipe I've encountered yet that can't be tweaked to fit. The fact that you're a foodie is an awesome addition too, so I hope you join us and throw any neato/delish ideas our way. Interested in cricket muffins? I haven't had a taker yet! (way to drive the lady right out of the thread Egads!) :))) Your: " We are all different but I wish sisters who choose another path wouldn't mock us for our disciplined approach. We are all struggling to find the best way to live our changed lives." Is spot on, and couldn't agree more, thank you for sharing that. Enjoy the heck out of that green tea (it would be nice with a cricket muffin). Hope to see you post soon!

Hi! I’m another non paleo but a vegan/low carb (no beans, potatoes, rice etc) lurker. So a vegan is here!!! I couldn’t agree more!!!!! I’m so glad you said something Egads. Ive read some of those posts you’re referring to and it was very upsetting to me. I understand that everyone has their own choices to make, but please don’t put others down for theirs. I was really questioning whether I belonged on this forum with comments like that being thrown around.

Since I’m making my lurking known- you guys are awesome for your dedication and humor! You’re too funny Egads! Best to you all.

DearLife- nice to see you here!

Thanks for the welcome Egads. I like to play with my food! am not vegan yet but moving in that direction. Life is too short to eat food that doesn't taste good and I don't have enough good recipes yet for beans but working on it. (Sorry - I think they are a mortal sin for paleos.)

For now, I am eating organic chicken and fish because my DH likes meat and I can't cook entirely different menus. But he is getting on the bean wagon. We have both lost weight going veganese and cutting back on wine and sugar. Those are two vices I think we all agree on. (I do enjoy a little vice now and then however.)

So I am in hybrid mode but love to learn about food and am open to almost anything. Except crickets 🦗.

    Waving to warrior 👋!
