I had 27 nodes removed, but I knew I had one positive going in to surgery - turns out there were three.

Sloan said: " Poodles - Oh, what an emotional time all the way around. I can understand, too, that if this was your first time seeing an in-ground burial that this would be throw you for a loop. The SIL was so caught up in emotions and grief. Is your husband's family Italian?

LOL, my husband's family is Greek. If you have seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", you have met my in-laws. All the men are named George going back 4 generations, at least. All my kids have the name, as well, including my daughter (middle name Georgette, which she hates.) If she had been blonde and blue-eyed, Georgette would have been her first name, but she is dark and Mediterranean looking, so she has a Greek name. My youngest son is blond and blue-eyed, which is pretty common in Crete, where the elders are from.

Happy Hammer, congrats on finishing up radiation. One more hurdle completed. Is this the end of your BC treatment (other than hormone suppression, that is.)

MLP3-I am on day 14 from my lumpectomy. I wore a snap shirt to the hospital. I had a wire placed in that was not too uncomfortable. I thought of the uncomfort as DIE lump! I then had the shot for the radiation that was like a a mild bee sting or when you rub against stinging nettle for 3 seconds. I did get sick after the operation but a lady across from me did not at all. I took T3s for about two days, kept a ice bag close and moved my arm around as per doctors advice. Last night I played tennis for 90mins and was not sore once during the game. Now I just have to wait for my results

Just so y'all know, Tylenol #3 (T3) contains codeine (if you didn't already know that.) Codeine is well-known to cause nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. I've been a nurse for 39 years and I've seen it more times than I can count. IMO, Percocet or Lortab is much less pukey.

I was told going in there are 4 part on the body that make us sick during a operation and the breast area is one of them. I also was give 2 shots of morphine and two t3 in recovery. As the nurse asked me if I was in pain. I answered a bit uncomfortable. I think I just had a ton of drugs in my system. I would only get sick as they would have me walk around. At the end of the night they just said told me this is as good as you are going to be. My blood pressure was also low 90/40. But knowing it was all the drugs was the reason I knew it would be a matter of time. 3 days later my husband was gone for a week and I was back in full on Mommy mode. I would say the worst part was that when you pull the help cord in the bathroom and the nurses come in they don't close the door because the bathroom is so small. They are just like mychildren. 😄

So I just found something interesting. My pathology report online reads different than what prints out. That's precious. Yikes!! Funny it left out a very important comment.

Marijen, Well, isn't that just peachy-keen? Which one seems to be the most complete? It's rather scary. And maddening.

Happy Hammer ! Yay! Perfect picture for a good ending.

Lovestofly and HH - LTFly is doing something right because you're kicking all our butts on Fitbit! Way to go! And HappyHammer, home Zumba sounds like afun idea because it's raining here! I read about a woman whose family danced after dinner while cleaning up. What a fun thing to grow up doing.

Britheal- 27? Wow! The doc said they would look at which ones lit up on with the dye (it would either be 1 or 2 sentinel nodes. They took 2.

Molly - Aw, sorry your son was sick. I know you've been pooped, too. You doing okay? Want to go to Irvine on Thurs and meet April with me? We're just going to exhale, you know? Just thinkin' about you.

April -See you in a few days!

Anyone else want to meet in the Irvine, Costa Mesa, LA, Newport Beach area? We're thinking Thursday!

Peggy, the last report from last margin cleaning got the wrong breast, I asked them to correct that and they did. The online report says "invasive primary is still occult" but my print out version doesn't show that. Is this another CYA moment? I'm guessing the doctors only read the online report.

I just sent a request to my Onc for a 3D mammogram now instead of a regular one in two months. I mean why look for changes after radiation instead of before? And since they can't find the IDC why not look for it with a 3D mammo? It's had 10 months since dx to spread who knows where. Am I wrong? I bet my MO doesn't even know I had three surgeries....

I do not like this guessing game.

Reading all of this reminded me- Did your BS inject the dye the day of or the day before my surgery is Thursday, but I don't have an appt tomorrow. I think I remember her telling me the injection would be the day before. Aargh, will need to call, but they'll be closed for lunch right now

1Step, my dye injection (done by my BS!) was just before surgery (maybe 30 minutes or an hour). Some have it the day before. I would guess that perhaps the type of dye used dictates when it is done but I really don't know for sure. All my "icky" stuff was done the day of my surgery - all right there at the cancer center.

    HUGS!

MLP3, I had two sentinal nodes which were positive so my BS ended up taking level l/ll nodes for a total of 9.

MLP3, that “nuclear scan” performed before surgery (usually the same morning or a day before) is done after the radioactive tracer (they don’t always use blue dye) has been injected and had some time to reach the sentinel nodes. That’s all they scan. It’s not diagnostic, but a navigational aid.

I had only two sentinel nodes glow in the dark, but unfortunately there were another two unlit “hangers-on” which tagged along with the sentinels during removal. To be on the safe side, all four were biopsied, and all were negative for cancer cells. Sometimes it’s possible to dissect out only the sentinels, but since lymph nodes grow in clusters like grapes, there are often some “hitchhikers” along for the ride.

I think you only get the blue dye if you are having a SNB. I had the radioactive isotope before surgery. BS that lights up all the nodes. BS put the die was put right on the tumor during surgery. She said they watch where the die goes and the first nodes it hits are the sentinel nodes.. which ended up to be 5 in my case, plus 2 "tag alongs" Thankfully, none of them had cancer in them. I forgot about the blue pee and almost died when I peed at home that night. LOL.
