The following red-bellied woodpecker photo was taken from on-line.
Today, was the 1st time I ever saw a red-bellied woodpecker. I just happened to look out at the suet feeders in the front yard. No time for a camera, but enjoyed the lovely shade of red.

Beautiful bird.

Teka, I don't know if I have seen one of those either. I just looked up a map of NY trying to get a sense of where everything is to the NYC. I bet you have some beautiful winter scenes all the time.
Lisa, can't wait to see one of these little guys around here. That is a great shot!
-
Lisa.. So beautiful.!!
-
Here a few shots taken through the patio door. I don't usually see Junco's in the feeder but since we have so much snow on the ground I guess this is why. -
tons of juncos around here. They are more on the regular seed feeder than the thistle... funny they aren't around at all in the summer.
-
Nope -- they head to Canada. My dh throws seed on the deck so we can see more of them. One year he rescued one that was head first in a snow bank and couldn't get out. Never figured out how that happened.
Need to try to get some pics of our myriad woodpeckers.
-
I guess that is why they call them snowbirds. We have lots around here too but they are usually feeding on the ground. I haven't seen much action lately and when I saw all my birds fly away recently I saw a hawk following after.
-
today in my back yard
-
I need to take a picture. I'm getting nuthatches, finches, chickodees, juncos and a big northern flicker today.
-
We've had a mature bald eagle flying around the yard the past couple of days. We're not real close to the river so don't know what he's eating, however it's not the first time we've had them in the neighborhood (I live in a rural area.) The songbirds don't seem to pay him much attention. Guess they know that coots are his favorite lol!

today

Beautiful Lisa. What is that first little bird?
-
I'll be having a bilateral mastectomy instead of birding in the Caribbean, so I'll join you here instead. I need to stake out the tree an see if I get another sighting, but I'm reasonably certain I saw an acorn woodpecker yesterday.
-
well you have found a nice spot to see birds and a little encouragement too. I had a single mastectomy 14 years ago now. And here we are ❤Sending hugs to you.
-
ksusan,
Welcome!
Hope you're able to get a photo!
-
Thanks. So let me ask all of you: What's the best (most beautiful, most moving, most unusual...) bird you've seen?
-
I'm still looking for the lovely red-bellied woodpecker to return to the suet feeders! ;o)
-
I saw a very pretty red-breasted sapsucker today. I'm pretty sure that's about looking for birds, not about being preoccupied with breasts
-
I sort of like little nondescript birds. Once in a while we have a flock of bush tits and they're so cute. One year they had a nest in our small dogwood tree. When the leaves fell it looked like a dirty white sock was stuck in the branches. It was their nest.
A friend of mine had a hummingbird build a nest, lay eggs and raise her chicks in a nearby tree. They were able to train a camera on the nest and take videos of her work, which were then posted on facebook.
-
Welcome Ksusan. Praying that your upcoming surgery will go well and that you will have a speedy recovery. Sorry you had to meet up this way but it is nice to share common interests along the journey. I am fascinated with swans, herons and egrets. I love all birds and enjoy taking pics of them. The goldfinch and black capped chickadee are my favorite backyard birds.
-
Just got back from 5 days in Orlando, and was able to see lots of pretty Fla birds. The one stand out was a spoon bill... this image is from online, not mine, but this is just what he looked like and was doing.. exciting to see.
-
I love the secretary bird..
-
I have never seen or heard of the spoon bill or the secretary. Both very interesting looking birds.
-
Loving the photos :-)
-
TThis bird never looks real to me
-
-
He certainly likes to pose for the camera!
-
Here's that red-breasted sapsucker.
