    Morning Ladies...

Gosh, Edi, you have MADE MY DAY!!!! You sound just wonderful!!!! Were you volunteering yesterday????? If so, I think you have just found your "escape route" from the "pits"!!!!

I wish we all were neighbours....can just picture the block parties (complete with "ball"games) and Edi's cake with the coffee get togethers!

I'm no hero, ladies....there are so many, many people around here who have lost so much, and are getting through it, and many, many people who have helped so much already. I think any of us would do the same.

Movie....any updates on daughter's surgery insurance snaffu? You're not seriously hiking alone in Glacier are you?? That worries me, but maybe also means you've sorted out the backpack problems???? Man, I'd love to be doing that walk with you today!!!! Can you stuff me in your pockets?

Caitlin....ONE. MORE. DAY. OF. TREATMENT......HOORAY!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!

Dakota.....what can we say....Time for a better life for you!!!!!!!!!!

    Traii....still totting those "bulbs"?????

Had my 3month post surgery appt yesterday. Surgeon (and I) are both happy with things, but still have some swelling to sort out before the next round, so back again in 3 months....works for me, I'm tired of being a patient and need a break from surgery.

Can't mention everyone, but am THINKING of all and sending hugs. ((((((X))))))

    Hi everyone,

Edi, YOU'RE BACK!!!! So glad about that, and wishing you the best. That cake sure is beautiful. These days they are closer to works of art than cake - almost too pretty to cut and eat. Yep, still towing DH every morning. He laughs all the way, and it makes him very happy. I'm not always so happy when I still want to sleep, and have to get up.

Benny, I enjoyed your sayings. The one that hit home for me is the one that says that everybody will die, but that few people actually know how to live. So true for me! Before bc I often was like somebody on autopilot, just going through the motions of everyday life. Nowadays I really see, hear, smell, taste and feel again, and I'm only too aware that there is an end to this life that I enjoy so much.

Caitlin! End of rads, end of treatment - big celebration tomorrow! WOOT WOOT!

Websister, so sorry about the sad news re your cousin. Happy to hear that you are moving on, getting on with life. Enjoy that baby! DD phoned yesterday. She is so nauseous all the time, but does not want to take the pills her GP prescribed for that. DH quickly set her straight on that, and she will now fill the prescription. No need to suffer like that. She can't stomach any greasy food or coffee at the moment - lol.

Nihahi, you are WONDERFUL, and don't you deny it. A heart as big as Alberta, and that is big . . . Glad your PS visit went well. As I said on the DIEP thread, I have no swelling issues whatsoever, but then again I'm just walking, and not doing strenuous exercise. Back is better, knee still has a scab from the fall, and next week I'm working for DH - secretary is taking leave - so serious exercise will wait till the week after. PS will be glad - she told me no gym for 12 weeks, and I'll go back at 11 weeks. Looking forward to my normal routine after sitting around the house for 3 months - LOL.

Movie, happy the tooth got sorted out, and hope DD's surgery issues will be too. Since I got that pedometer on Monday, I have something that chases me to move - lol! I'm up to 10 000 steps per day, and it was not hard to get there - yay! We have a big yard, and running to and fro with the hose watering everything quickly adds up. Will up it way more once I start interval training on the treadmill, but it will take time before I can hike with you and Nihahi - LOL. At the moment you will have to leave me behind as I won't be able to keep up with you two yet. Working on it . . .

Dakota, I am so proud of you! Cannot be easy, but you've made your decision, and you're sticking to it. Our  friend has been separated from his cheating wife for the last 5 years already, so he is past that trauma. Took him a long time to heal. He says that until the day he gets his divorce papers, he will not even look at another woman, because he is still married. A real upstanding guy.

Alive, I'm wondering how you are doing with the chemo?

Peggy, I don't think I have welcomed you here yet. You have found an amazing, caring group of sisters, and you can just chat if you wish, or share what's on your mind.

Those that I'm forgetting, hope you are all doing well!

Websister, so sorry to hear of your cousin. Is she connected to this group? If not maybe she should join us.

Ireith, welcome to the forum! I am definitely getting through this! Not sure where you are in the journey but hope things are going along well for you.

I had my followup appointment today and the doc says my poor old boob looks 'fantastic' (his words). He said the shooting pains, heaviness, tenderness, etc are all normal and will gradually subside over the next 6 months. He also said it would never be the same again and would always have more 'awareness' than before. I am to start my Tamoxifen tomorrow and then have another 3 month appointment. One weird thing was that the oncologist wants me on Tamoxifen for 3 years then another drug after that. This doc today did not know why. Has anyone ever heard of that?

I'm sitting here stewing because there was a saddle stand (worth $50.00) sticking out of a garbage bin right where I parked this afternoon. It looked brand new. I so desperately wanted to grab it but there was a Handi-bus driver sitting there and I just couldn't bring myself to grab something out of someone's garbage! LOL Now I'm sitting here thinking I should have done it. Dilemma!

I stopped in at the TAB bra place but it's just a house and no one appeared to be home so will call her. So I have no update on that unfortunately.

Re: tamoxifen for three years and then something else. I was told similar re: tamoxifen for three years followed by an aromatase inhibitor. There is a little info here that can help with understanding -

Ps I think if I was you I might be going back to see if the saddle stand was still there ;)

Benny, I was also told Tamoxifen for three years, and then Letrozole (Femara)for two more. Seeing that I'm doing so well on Tamoxifen, I'm not very excited to start something new which may cause unpleasant new SE's. Will cross that bridge when I come to it. On August 1 it will be my one-year Tamo anniversary. Time has flown! Websister is right. Go back and see if saddle-stand is still there - you've got nothing to lose!

    Good afternoon ladies,

I'm still here :) Had a bit of a busy week so far, so less time to spend on the wonderweb, which is probably a good thing!

Monday I spent all morning at the dentist, getting my teeth cleaned, and the broken one fixed. I was really nervous, but it went well. I've had bad experiences with a couple of dentists in Calgary, and nearly walked out while I was waiting for the freezing to work. After 8 months of bc sh*t, I nearly had a hissy fit at the dentist!! What???

Anyway, it was all fine in the end, and I have finally found a dentist I'll be happy to go back to!

Tuesday morning, I was fitted with a compression sleeve and glove, then went deep water exercise, visited with a friend in the afternoon, then chorus in the evening.

Wednesday morning, I did the steps on the Douglas Fir Trail again. Much stronger than last week, both up and down! So pleased, I even trotted a part of the way! The afternoon I mostly rested! I have resolved to try those steps at least once a week if I can. That way I get a measure of how strong I feel. I hope to be able to run them properly before I return to work!

This morning I was down at the new South Health Campus having my portacath out! (Huzzah!!)

Have any of you been to the new hospital? It is super dooper swish! ;)

This afternoon I have been mostly sleeping off my sedation from this morning!;) My chest is smarting a little, but on the whole is a lot better than I felt after having the port inserted!

Sounds like everyone is doing ok? Edi, so glad you are feeling better. Must be the volunteering! Nihahi, don't go too crazy! ;)

Benny, you sound better too, and Websister, I'm sorry to hear about your cousin :(

Hugs to everyone I haven't mentioned. I think I'm gonna pop another Tylenol and go for a walk!

    Rose :)

Thank you Websister and Liefie. I am feeling a bit more *normal* now, knowing that this Femara is standard procedure. Websister, glad your cousin has the site link. I hope she joins and we get a chance to welcome her and help.

I am heading out to see if that saddle stand is there. I'm just going to stop, grab it, throw it in the back of the truck and tear off in a cloud of dust!

Just before I head out on my little garbage-grabbing spree, I have to mention I made the most yummy meal tonight... Kik Alicha (Ethiopian Yellow Split Pea Stew)

Here's the recipe if anyone's interested. The stats on yellow split peas are amazing.... fiber is 64%, iron is 20%, protein is 48 grams in this recipe! I added a wee bit of cream to mine so mine wasn't vegan, but it sure doesn't need the cream for flavour.

    Serves 2

    Ingredients:

    3 cups water
    vegetable broth as needed
1 cup dried yellow split peas, rinsed
    1/2 medium onion, chopped
    3 cloves garlic, minced
1 inch chunk of fresh ginger, peeled, and finely chopped
    1/2 teaspoon turmeric
    3/4 – 1 tsp herbamare or salt
    pepper to taste

    Directions:

    1. Place water and the split peas in large pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium; and cook about 30 minutes, just until tender. (Alternatively you can cook them in a pressure cooker, use a digital electric pressure cooker as it has a non stick pan, don’t do this in a metal stovetop pressure cooker as it can burn to the bottom.)

    2. In a frying pan, add some vegetable broth and bring to high heat. Add onion, reduce to medium high and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add more broth as needed Add the garlic, ginger and turmeric; cook another 5 minutes.

    3. Once done, add the mixture to cooked peas; stir in salt and pepper. Simmer until peas are very soft, and almost mushy about 30 minutes more. Taste test; adjust seasonings if needed.

Well I have reached the half way point, 6 down 6 to go. I was a big girl today didn't cry at all.

I met a young lady last time who was getting her consult, I gave her this site and we have been exchanging PM's. Today was her first treatment it felt good to be able to give her a big hug and wish her luck. I gave her my number so she can call if she needs anything this weekend. It feels good to be able to help someone starting on this journey.

Update on DH they have put him on Vertigo pills they seem to be working no episodes this week. DD got her stiches out this week and is healing well, hopfully she will be able to start caoching again soon.

Websister, I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin. I will be saying prayers for her tonight.i

Caitlin, one more, woo hoo, way to go.

Dakota, you go girl, you should not have to sut up with that crap stand your ground and don't give up. Is tomorrow your nip day? I thought it was Friday.

Edi, nice to here you are feeling better I hope it keeps up for you, you are such a ray of sunshine to all of us. Love the pic of that beautiful cake.

Benny, yeah for your poor old boob great to here it is looking good. I have been told I will take Tamoxifen for 10 years, seems like a long time to me, but what do I know.

Peggy, I believe I did not welcome you, so welcome these ladies are such a help. Feel free to vent, ask, and share anything you would like.

Traii, hope all is well and those darn drains are out or getting out real soon.

Maria.....HEY THERE....you are doing just great! fyi....big girls cry too! Just think, after the next one, you will have more behind you, than in front of you....it seems small, but emotionally....it's a huge milestone!

Morwenna...you RUN those stairs on the trail???? wowzer....I'd probably trip myself up and end up in a heap! Congrats on getting that port out....again, another HUGE milestone!!!!

Benny....you just sound better and better! re: the saddle stand....one person's trash is another person's treasure....but make sure it wasn't something contaminated in the flood! Has Charlotte arrived yet??? Recipe sounds great (except for the tumeric....yucko!!!).

Movie....still walking to Portland, or now on the bus home?

Alive....still hoping the cyber challenges get sorted out....we miss you! Hope all is well.

Liefie....sounds like you've mastered that pedometer already! Glad to hear your knee and back are sorting themselves out. Have fun as the office assistant!!!! Hubby owes you something special for that one!

Going to end here, hop over to the Diep thread, then get some stuff done at home. Sorry I couldn't send a shoutout to everyone, doesn't mean I'm not thinking of you.

    Haha Nihahi,

I felt good about not having to stop for a breather every third step!

No, running them is something of a wishlist item for me. I might not do it, but aim for the stars and you may land on the moon! :D

I did just run (sort of) up the steps to the arbour in Arbour Lake, but I had to hang onto my right boob, as the jiggling hurt my stitches! :p

Luckily there was nobody about! Then I walked the rest of the way, but as briskly as I could.

I feel good! Very positive (Tea and drugs!!!) ;)

Caitlin, doing the happy dance for you for tomorrow. Congrats girl, you did it :) Hope you're staying away of all your home brew until celebrations after tomorrows final rad.. lol ....I'll send hubby around for a taste test...he loves his beer ( I'll bring the vodka and redbull!) Wink

Dakota, good luck for tomorrow.... thinking of you and how excited you must be feeling Laughing

Edi, hope you had fun with your friend doing some ' retail therapy' ... I can't wait to go shopping again, it feels like an eternity.... reality = only been 2 weeks...Surprised

Nihahi, such a good neighbour you are.....she is very lucky to have someone thats 'been there done that' to help her along the way.

Benny, we would have been Tamoxifen sisters starting together, but I have to delay tomorrows start date because of surgery and the drain still in..also I've been given antibiotics 'incase' of infection!  Hope you got incontact with that TAB bra lady. Did you end up going back for that saddle stand? I could so see you sitting on your couch....thinking, should I , shouldn't I....and doing the dash down there, picking it up in your cow girl hat and going back home.....LOL

Movie, how's that tooth of yours going? off those Timmy Tammys for a while I'd suggest...LOL (don't worry I'll have one for you ok?) Lol

Websister, hope work hasn't been too hectic. Glad you had a good day with your mom the other day. I too am sorry to hear about your cousin.

Ladies if i've missed anyone sorry. Hope everyone is having a nice sleep / day.

My gosh!!! Celebrations all around today, eh!

Caitlin....WOOHOO..CONGRATS...YOU DID IT!!!! CELEBRATION TIME!...even though you might not feel like it quite yet! Now...focus on the future, hang on to positive thoughts and give yourself HUGE credit for what you have accomplished, but also give yourself the patience and time to completely rebound and recover. It takes time, but it happens!

Traii....Super news! One more to go!!!!!! Hopefully it comes out soon, then there will be NO stopping you! When does work start????

I burst out laughing at your likely very accurate description of benny....should I, shouldn't I, hmmm....We must hear what your decision was Benny!!!!

    Dakota....thinking of you!!!

Maria....at the tipping point....you must feel like this is your "new normal", but it isn't .....so happy for you to have made it to this point. Hope daughter's shoulder heals well, and this is the LAST of her surgeries. Good to hear hubby feels better too. Vertigo is awful!!

Morwenna.....you just keep those positive "feeling good" thoughts!!!! It's wonderful to hear how you are now, as compared to a month or so ago!!!!

Movie....ignore Traii....I'm sure timtams are a recommended food group!

Love to all, have wonderful days today!!!!!

    Good Morning Nihahi !

Work starts when I want work to start again!! which means, after I take my son on that promised holiday to Queensland to do all the adventurous things he wants to see and explore. Smile  I'm looking at vacation end of August so will start back to work September. I think I've had enough time off..!!! I can't wait to start again for the 'normality' of life again.!!  I just have to wait until next weds my Breast Care Nurse said before I book a holiday incase of any probs when my last drain comes out ( I don't know wouldn't it be ok to fly or are they scared my implants will explode on the plane) !!!

I must admit, my boss has been nice. Hasn't hassled me of when I'm going back, the girl I work with is in constant contact as a 'friend' not a 'collegue'. They even sent me a big bunch of flowers and chocolates when they knew i was back home from surgery. They are a very sweet company that have been overly good to me. They think the office is too quiet without me though...they want 'life' back in the office.....I try telling them 'who me, talkative, get outta here'! LOL.

Hope you've had that wake up coffee and ready to start your Friday. Its just on midnight here, Saturday now. I think I will go to bed shortly. We are going out for dinner to my cousins house tomorrow which will be nice. I'm giving my parents the 'night off' from grandparents duty...( shh, they will be so angry if they saw that what I wrote) they do not class what they are doing as a 'duty' they absolutely love it and my DS is quite content there....he didn't want to come home with us tonight.....because DH is home on weekend I told DS to come home to sleep and he said no thank you...I like it here. I said 'yeh, well you can get away with it for now, but when mummys all better you are back home because I miss you toooooooooooo much' DS replied, ' yes mummy, I miss you too, but I like staying here' hmmm maybe because he gets his own way!!!!

    Enjoy your day......talk tomorrow ladies.

Nihahi, don't worry about the granny thing - I never even saw it. That DIEP thread is such a busy, talkative bunch, and I'm sure it's forgotten by now. Does not matter anyway. Re working for DH next week - I had a crash course on the work computer on Wednesday afternoon. Things have changed considerably since I worked there last because the old secretary retired in December, and there is a new, much younger and very computer savvy one now. I am quite apprehensive about going to work on Monday. When I get nervous, I get an upset stomach on the spot . . . if I can get through chemo I can get through this - repeat to self over and over - LOL. DH is taking next Thursday and Friday off, so fortunately it is a short week - phew!!!

Traii, glad you're minus one drain now. The other one will come out soon. Your little boy is just so adorable, and I'm really looking forward to that grandchild now. I can just imagine how your co-workers must miss you - you're like a positive ray of sunshine with a laugh a minute. Implants exploding - LOLOLOL!!!

Maria, I admire you! 12 chemos? I had only 4, and that was enough. But hey, you're halfway there, and it's all downhill from here. Happy to hear your family's health is better too.

Movie, how did your walk go yesterday? Did they stop you in Portland, or are you nearing the border of California?

Benny, did you get the saddle stand?

Going to visit friends on one of the nearby islands for the weekend. There is a quaint farmer's market on Saturday mornings - wonder if they will have baby stuff there? LOL.

Just a quick note to say I am now the proud (?) owner of a dumpster saddle stand! I drove down there and it was still there. I parked right beside it, jumped out, threw it in the back of the truck, then took off on two wheels around a corner! You'd think I'd robbed a bank haha! It is missing a bolt (which I'm going to replace at Rona today) and was a bit dusty, but other than that it was fine. These things are worth $50.00 in the store and we can always use them out at the farm. I'm never setting foot in that neighbourhood again haha!

Yay on the drain removal Traii! I soooooo hated mine. Like I've said before it was like an annoying pet rock attached to me. And cleaning it..... blech! One down, one to go, then you're free! Your description of my dumpster-diving dilemma was right on the money! DS sounds so completely adorable. <3

I think I'm going to buy a pedometer, I am inspired! Is there a better brand, or a brand to stay away from?

Okay, must give Benny his breakfast, change Paddy's bath water and head out to see the giant plush toy. There isn't a cloud in the sky today!!! Be back later..... have a WONDERFUL day everyone!

Benny, good for you! Wish I could have been a fly on the wall for your dumpster diving experience - lol! Pedometer sounds good - you will get to 10 000 steps on no time doing chores on the farm.

I'm cooking quinoa for a salad that I want to take with. Better stop idling on these boards before I burn it - lol. Have a good weekend everybody!

Dakota - thinking of you and looking forward to hearing from you on the postop side. Fipples are way in the future for me at the moment, one step at a time :)

Maria - way to go - halfway!

Caitlin - doing the happy dance for you. Heal well

Liefie - can't wait to hear back after your farmer's market - they must have some baby items, I will be keeping a lookout for that set at Homesense in green or yellow for you

Nihahi - I must have been pretty tired the other night when I said tomorrow instead of next week

Morwenna - so good to hear you are doing so well. Enjoy this break before rads and rest up

Traii - great news that you are down one drain, looking forward to your post when the other one goes, no stopping you then. Love the DS stories, he reminds me of my grandson - his most recent comment to his Mom was that next time they went to grandma's he wants to stay forever - then added - maybe even for three weeks

Edi - hope the retail therapy went well for you, what is it like there with the Royal baby due imminently?

Benny - you make me laugh. First considering harboring a chicken illegally and now making off with people's cast-offs in a cloud of dust. What is next?

My newest granddaughter is going on a trip to meet her cousins this weekend and we get to babysit the dog who is needing some TLC and reassurance. When I was over there the other day he wanted me to hold his front paw while he rested beside me :)

I am sorry to hear about your day and the news you heard. It is like you are in a bad dream. We did not sleep well the first few nights however it gets easier as time moves forward. The most difficult part is hearing the news and the next few weeks of tests will be tough but you will see it will pass. A new perspective at life will unfold and the silver lining will be seen each day. Just take it one day at a time...cry...hit a pillow when angry and remember to breath. I also found my faith in God became renewed and the peace from Him helped me out the most! MY prayers are wi th you.

Good Morning ( here ) to you all. Laughing
Still feeling GREAT !! Retail again today yay. then visit to a dear friend. Gonna be the hottest day yet today. We are having trouble coping here. Forest fires have started in some areas.
Was volunteering yesterday afternoon, it was a scream. The girls there are all nuts. Thought I would share this one with you, met sweet volunteer called Sid, he was chatting away and he has the big C in lungs, bones and heaven knows where else. Was told he would be dead 42 years ago but still here !! He is 81 looks about 60 and is pure joy to work with.
He went on to have a family and hold down a very demanding job until he retired after DX.
Shedman in hospital Frown his stent has moved !! they are sorting him out next Tuesday but he is now resting and on liquid diet, bit of a relief really as he thought his tumour was causing the blockage.

Websister, Royal Baby fever here is at its height !! Supposedly this week end, rumour is she is a couple of weeks over. Our Queen was asked when baby coming, she said it had better be soon as she is going on her holidays to her place in the country. lol.
My GD's don't want to go home either when they visit, nice to know they feel safe and happy with you, ( spoilt rotten as well )

Traii, lovely one drain gone !! DS is as cute as a button you will be begging Mum and Dad to have him in the not to distant future for months at a time lol.
Exploding boobs, you are as mad as a bag of frogs ha ha. That holiday will be magical.
Bet they do miss you like mad in work, just enjoy the rest.

Dakota, thinking of you, hope you aren't too sore.x

Benny !!!!! You are an inspiration Laughing Bet there is a police helicopter up there looking for mad cowgirl with saddle stand.
Any news on the chicken ? Will send you a cake with a file in it when they catch you x

Liefie, You must start a baba box, it is every Nana's duty. I filled small boxes with anything cute or unusual I saw throughout the pregnancy's. DD's loved them.

Caitlin, congratulations now REST and enjoy the fact you don't have to rush off to appointments every day.

Morwenna, make me ashamed, going to get myself out walking today when sun goes down.I am just a lazy bxxxh lol.

Maria. once half way has happened the rest fly by honestly. I had the same amount as you and they whizzed by once half way reached. Hope se's not too bad.

Nihahi, was in supermarket yesterday chuckling in the pasta aisle got DH spaghetti with MEATBALLS in just for a change in tribute to you Kiss.

Posh wedding next weekend in Yorkshire. Really excited, only problem is quite a long journey there but going day before to avoid stress.
Going to try on my outfit later, bought it weeks ago but put weight on since so fingers crossed.
