*Good Morning Hermits*
August 1st has arrived just in time for the weekend.
Anyone, big plans?
-
Teka- I am hoping to get to the last of the outdoor jazz concerts at the museum this weekend with a friend. These concerts are one of my favorite things to do in the summer here, and got to a bunch of them between June to July, and they only have a few weekends left. Brazilian jazz on top for tomorrow night, pending the weather.
We get soaking rains every night right now which is good for the landscape, but not good for sitting under the stars for the music!
-
Cami- hi girlfriend, hoping too the skin thingies are nothing either!
-
Jazzy, tomorrow night, a clear sky!
California could use some rain from New Mexico.
-
Hi Hermmies.
Well it's sunny so far today, I really didn't look for the week-end yet.
I have a baptism on Sunday, but it an Italian one so it will be at an ornate hall with loads of people and a big dinner and dancing--they treat it like wedding. So I already know it'll knock me out-but it's all worth it, The baby is one of my BFF GS so I won't leave til everyone is ready. hha which like a wedding is late so that's this weekend, /but I get to see my friends Leslie's MIL works at Macy's which around here is considered a good store, but she finds deals plu her discount so I got 3 oufits different sizes for 20.00 so at least it looks nice, cuz it's hard for me to afford extras and baby clothes are so expensive anyway and I don't like to give money first it has to be much more than that and 2nd this is the first boy and I like clothes for babies.Plus they don't need the money. Just weddings I give money.
-
Cami- I grew up in a big italian area in southern CT and no one knows how to have a party like the italians (weddings, baptisms, etc.) Sounds like a great time and you have some new outfits for next to nada! Fun to get dressed up, go out and celebrate these important events. Babies are important!
After a less productive few days, back at it with some things on the professional front and with the house. I am "chasing the money" today with my last client trying to get paid for my final invoice for June consulting services. Now overdue, and I need to get that money in to do a few things like pay some taxes, deposit to my retirement, etc. They were really bad at paying on time on several occasions during this last contract and now that I am gone, I have less leverage. But the people I work with are trying to help and hopefully can get the lazy finance folks to cut me a check. They told me so far "everything was approved a long time ago" and they told me they were going to close out the cost center and pay people right away after June. They lied. I will hopefully get this resolved in the next few weeks, otherwise I will get my attorney involved. This is the not fun part of self employment!
-
Of course Macy's is a good store, it so saddens me that I had to quit there, lol..
-
Jazzy that just sucks to have to chase the money that is owed to you. What a PITA for you to have to do that. I hope it resolves very soon for you.
Blondie I don't remember u ever mentioning u worked for Macy's, I don't know where any are located, but I do know the Macy's Parade was always a big deal. And when they have sales and then an employee discount u can buy lots for so little.
-
Hi hermits- got out to take advantage of "tax free weekend" here in NM and got some things at Kohls today, plus a juicer! Most everything tax free except the juicer (I guess they don't see it as a school supply....)
Oh and it sounds like they were getting whatever final approvals on that invoice done and hopefully should see a check next week. Fingers crossed, I have some people there trying to help me with this. Good to have friends on the "inside" of this situation.
I grew up with Macy's on the east coast (we used to go to the one in New Haven when I was a kid) but the ones out here in NM are junky and I don't shop at them here. East coast ones are much better.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
-
Watched the Grand Budapest Hotel. All star cast, interesting and often comical film!
Good night hermits!
-
-
Jazzy to funny.
-
-
I'll do my best.
-
Our downtown flooded with all the rain last night. I fortunately live on higher ground and am fine.
Although I have seen the streets downtown get a lot of water on them during monsoon season, never seen this kind of flooding happen since I moved here 18 years ago.
-
Jazzy OMG that's flooded.
-
That should result in a lot of clean-up!
-
Hermits- yes, it is all over the news today. It is overcast and more rain coming. Supposed to be going to outdoor music tonight but not sure it is going to happen. We will decide in awhile.
My city lies in a big basin and the downtown area is below the river level, so it does have a tendency to accumulate water during high run off periods (very rare here). I hope the folks downtown have flood insurance.
Rented a really good movie called The Book Thief. It was a classic read when I was younger, and the movie is very good with excellent acting. It is out on DVD (2013 movie) and if you get NetFlix, you should be able to get it there.
-
Jazzy,
Was the outdoor jazz concert a go?
-
Teka- yes it was! Just getting home from a great night of outdoor Brazilian music. Two different groups, second one was as close as you would hear on the streets of Rio de Janiero. My friend that went with me enjoyed it and we ran into people we both know from my former client site (she still works there, some of these folks had worked there previously like I did for the last project). It was a cool crisp night and made me think of fall.
I hope everyone else here had a good day!
-
