Corned beef, cabbage, parsnips, and carrot cake with Dream Cooler ice cream (who remembers Dreamsicles? our local dairy chain has it by the 1/2 gallon and it's my favorite)
We don't make our own sauerkraut, but being married to a Polish guy, we have made our own pierogies, kluski, and all kinds of Christmas stuff. DH is an awesome cook, having learned at the feet of his Polish grandma and great-grandma. We do tend to prefer the Bavarian style sauerkraut, a little sweet and with anise seed.

STOP!
You're making me hungry and starting to drool.
Today, I stayed home while husband and son after eye doctor appointments got to eat out.
-
No, we've not made our own. But my cousin was married to a meat cutter, so she knows how to buy meat. And though she isn't a really creative cook, but good solid meat and potatoes fare. Her sense of smell is almost non-existent, so seasonings are not always what we'd like, but she has such a sweet spirit that we eat whatever she cooks. We have a unique situation; Cousin's mom and mine were sisters, she's 14 years older than me, and after having her in the household for the last 3 years, I can tell you that neither DH nor I know how we'd get through this chit without her. He adores her, and they have a good time together even when I'm not around. Sending the two of them shopping can have unintended consequences. Last trip to Sam's they brought home a water cooler.
Our deal is, she gets her own room & bath, cable, smart phone, and in return she does all the shopping and most of the cooking, feeds the animals, juices for me and makes sure that I'm doing ok. Each of us thinks it's a blessing and that she is right where she belongs.

Good morning hermits. In my garden last night, a pair of lesser yellow finches. I have seen them in the russian sage before but was able to grab my camera and get a few telefoto shots this time!

Good Morning hermmies.
Oh all this food sounds so good even at this time of day. My mom taught my DD her recipe for pineapple upside down cake and atho I'm a chocolate lover her cake is wonderful
Mags u are blessed with a perfect arrangement for all of u, it's so good for u especially now, when I went thru chemo etc I lived alone--except it didn't bother me at all, my kids were always around and my family and friends would make sure I had what I needed and I did have my own car then so I liked being alone with my Katie Kat. And my one GF owns a restaurant so if I had a taste for something, she's send it over for me. And My BIL took me to every chemo and picked me up after for 2 yrs. He was never lte. LOL And was always there and waited for my surgeries. I never wanted anyone there, but there were always people that came. But he was my Angel and when he'd be in the room they assumed he was my DH and would start something and we'd both yell no we're not married, and he'd leave and we'd laugh, cuz he's come into the recovery room (he wasn't supposed to) and when I woke up he'd always be holding my hand smiling it went well, til the last one and when I finally woke up the look on his face and he said u'r fine now, u'r fine---they couldn't get me to wake up, poor guy was a nervous wreck and u could see it, and then everyone was there. That's why I have to pass on some operations that would make me feel better, no one really wants to do it. Sorry I got carried away.
Jazzy did u make it out last nite? I love u'r energy, it translates good on here.
Hope everyone has a decent day..
-
Cami- no I did not get out that evening as planned. I was tired and felt virally later in the day. I think I have had a touch of something that left me a bit achy, with some D monday nite, and also feeling tired but it seems now to have passed. I have another music event on Thursday evening, and hope to get that if it does not rain. Out on a patio at a vegetarian restaurant I like and have not been to in awhile. We are having a lot of rain right now in the evenings (good for the land, not good for watching music outside!)
I have been a bit hermity this week and actually enjoying it. I am finally slowing down from coming off the contract, my travels, etc. I do have things I am working on here at home, but don't feel quit like socializing a lot. I have music friends who invite me to 2-3 events a week and rarely go to anything ever. Still not as social as I used to be, but that is my new normal. I am picking and choosing when I want to go out.
Gotta get moving to my day. Hope you all have a good one!
-
Hi all. I am reading and thinking of you all and hoping the summer days are treating you kindly. I am off to rest in my recliner as a tad bit of gardening wore me out ... not sure why ... and I have been grumpy today. I did get my short walk in.
-
Sally how nice. but u did work outside and I think it's warm by u so just relax til u feel some enrgy coming back.
-
Jazzy, lovely bird photos.
Sally, yes, just relax in your recliner.
-
Jazzy you have to stop pushing yourself.. Please take it easy, you have to recuperate from being on vacation also...Cammie, I know you are so fortunate to have someone in your life that could help.
Happy Wednesday!!
-
Blondie- don't worry hon, I am slowing down and taking care of myself. I like that you care about my well being! Back at you too and hoping you are feeling okay this week.
There is some pretty spectacular lightening around here this week. This was from last night's storm.
-
*Good Morning Hermits*
Jazzy, prettier than fireworks!
-
Good morning hermits!
Teka- natures fireworks. I drove up to a friend's house last night and saw a storm with rain falling and one side of the cloud there was a big fat rainbow, the other had lightening strikes coming down the other side. Pretty spectacular. Did not get out to take a pic though, as they worn us every day here when you know there is lightening around to stay inside your home or car. It can strike up to many miles away.
Off to the dermatologist shortly and hoping everyone here has a good day!
BTW, how is Lily doing?
-
Hey Hermies! This is me with my new wig, as promised.
Lawsy me! My eyebrows are shaggy!
-
Mags- I REALLY like it. It really fits you. I hope you like it too!
-
i really like that style on you Mags, it makes you look younger
-
Mags, you look very cute with your new "do."
-
Hi hermits- went to the derm today and ended up with two skin biopsies, one on my scalp for an area I have had concerns around for awhile and another area under my left breast. She said she was not worried about anything really bad with either, but if it is something, may be some basal cell carcinoma. I will know in about a week when the results come back and will let you know.
Been working on the house today to pull things off the walls and store them. I feel like I am moving!
Hope everyone here has had a good day. Glad to see our Mags with her cute new wig too!
-
Jazzy, excellent results!
Mags, nicely frames your face and glasses!
-
Jazzy, sorry you had to have biopsies but happy that derm does not think it's anything really bad. Keep us posted. Did I miss something ... why are you taking things off the walls?
-
Sally- I am having the inside of the house painted! So things coming off the walls and surfaces in some of the rooms. They begin next Monday and will be here 4 days. I will send you pics when things are put back together around here! Next comes the hard wood floors.....
-
