Mags, I am thinking of you.
dwill, I understand your raw feelings. One of my close friends said she would call me to set up a lunch date. She never called. I sent a "thinking of you card" to her because she was in a tough situation at work. No response. Since I felt I had been the one calling for some time, I did not call her after she said she would call. I am hurt. I hope we both get answers to the "why" friends change in relation to us after our dx.
-
This is so sad, but in my way of thinking true---Not for all, but some people can't handle the idea of cancer, or being around it, not cuz they think they'll catch it but because they just can't handle the feeling it gives them. One of my friends is like that but we've talked about it and so from then on we never talk about it, and I accept that she's just like that not just with me, but she can't deal with it. But we still talk and see each other, no problems====in fact I'm going to her GS's baptism in a couple of weeks. So it's hard to tell why some people shy away--she's the only one and we got this figured out right away,--and we're fine.

I have an appointment to see my hairdresser in the morning for the shave. He and his wife are semi retired, their shop is an addition to their house, he's been cutting me for ten years and is a dear friend now. DH is driving me there and if I'm up to it we may go look for a wig. I told him I wanted him to pick it out since I don't really care and will probably just wear a bandana around the house.
-
Mags u'r DH is so sweet and I bet u'll get a really nice one. Don't forget the Cancer Society has wigs, and I got a great one from them, altho I did usually wear hats, and scarves--it's nice to have one wig that looks nice.
-
Hermits- my time here in CT is wrapping up and we head to RI tomorrow for the family reunion. I will check in again on the other side of the weekend of family and as I head back to NM on Monday.
Wishing everyone here a good weekend with relaxation and something nice for each day.
-
Cami, the cancer clinic where I go has a contract with a shop that has wigs & foobs & stuff and they will file the insurance as I have a rx.
Jazzy, have a great time with the family, and a safe trip home.
-
sorry mags, I do know that some places have places that u can go n get make overs for free along with wigs, if u have a cancer crnter around u call there
Dwiii I know I am a bitch and have no been fun to be around, especially when I was on chemo, I realized n tok myself out of the mix and became a hermit.

Hi Hermies, what a day it has been. Went to my hairdresser this morning and got my shave. Feels really weird, kind of like lightweight velcro to the touch. So I promised pics, here's one of John shaving me.
And at the end, with John and his wife Susan who was all teary eyed.
Then we went to the boutique I told you about and bought a wig and a couple of turbans. When I get the wig to where I like it, I'll post a pic. DH picked it out and he likes it so I don't really care what it looks like because I don't have to see it.

I'll be looking for the pic.
I sometimes forgot and went public with bald head.
-
awesome.....I never wore a wig, always went out with whatever it was...loving your head....
-
Mags, it sounds and looks like John and Susan are good friends. I am happy that you were with friends for this step ... and, of course, your DH. Is your wig the same color as your hair was or did you decide to try a new color?
-
I tried on quite a few, DH ended up liking one that is fairly close to my color, more salt & pepper where mine (as you can see) is pretty much white. And it's short and straight. But he likes it. So it's all good.
Gonna put on my new sleep cap & see if it stays on all night. See y'all tomorrow. Nini.

Sweet Dreams!!
-
Mags u look beautiful and I bet the wig will look great too, especially cuz u'r DH wouldn't have u wear anything that wouldn't look good. I hope this wasn't to difficult for you, I know some who it was. Not me tho, I always hated my frizzy hair so I was glad to see it go and so far it is pretty straight, so it worked out fine for me. But I did have a lot of hats and scarves but only cuz I worked the first 4 months of my chemo, after that I didn't buy any more I had enough and I didn't go out everyday like I had done, so I wouldn't wear anything around my house or in the hospital, it just didn't bother me--but I wouldn't work like that tho.

My wild morning glories are now in full bloom!
My tame morning glories are just starting to bloom!
-
Teka, I love morning glories. Always grew them when I had a spot. I'll see if I can find a picture. Have you grown moonflowers? I grew them too, loved them.
DH will absolutely not shave! I wouldn't let him. He has the lumpiest head you've ever seen. I would never allow him to uncover it!
-
Mags hahahaha
-
I told husband, son, and daughter not to shave!
I wanted all the attention in public!
I don't have good luck with moonflowers!
-
Teka, here you go.
-
Lovely!
I'm waiting for heavenly blue morning glories to bloom!

Hi hermits- just a quick hi before I head out today and begin winging my way back west. Time with family in RI has been good, anniv. party for my cousin and husband was awesome. Got to see so many cousins I have not seen in 20 years, meet spouses, see children grown up or new families I have yet to meet.
Many in the family are staying up here in beach houses for the week and it makes me want to stay (I am on a break from work as you know...) but have my six month follow up coming up later this week. So home we go!
This family of cousins has been touched deeply by cancer with two of the women spouses. The wife of one cousin who is here has come through some really hard years dealing with lymphoma. She has been through rounds of chemo as well as a bone marrow transplant and of course, it has taken a toll on her in many ways. But she is pretty amazing and has such a good attitude. She was telling us last night "I am grateful for everything now." Touche.
Mags- I am glad you had your hair shaved and have some wigs and turbans now. I like that you got proactive to take the way before it all fell out, and to also find some head gear to help you through. You are a trouper!
Hope everyone else here is doing okay. I will have some pics to post when I am home and settled.
-
Jazzy, have a safe trip home! I'll be looking for the pics!
*Hermits*
-
Jazzy, I too look forward to the pictures. Teka, my coffee is full of sunshine too.
-
-
Teka my coffe tastes great this morning.
Jazzy be safe and tell us when u'r home--U'r trip sounded wonderful and we're all glad u shared, now for the pics.
Hope everyone has a good Monday.
-
Aw, chemo took away my taste for coffee but fortunately I still love tea.
(Don't you hate it when this happens? You start a post then go somewhere else to find a pic and when you come back you have to log in again? That's why if I have to leave the page mid-post I copy my post first.)
-
I only put milk in hot tea!
I put nothing in ice tea!
-
Mags I never log out so very seldom do I log in I just use tabs for pics and everything else. I don't know if that is right but that's what I do.
-
I don't have the problem so much on my laptop but I'm usually posting from my iPad and it's very fussy. I'm sure part of the reason I have to log in from time to time is that I log in from different devices. I do keep a tab open for the forum because I'm here so much, but when I go to a different tab or to my photo app, there's no telling what I'll find when I come back, so I've just gotten in the habit of copying my post so I don't lose it. I always keep a tab open for Facebook because that's the other place I "live". My little iPad mini sure gets a workout!
