Jazzy... Have they linked the bp at all with arimidex/anastrozole?  My bp has gone up, but no one ever says anything or shows concern.  I figure if they're ok with it, I guess I should be, too.   (I'm chicken, avoiding more meds, ??)  I lurk the anastrozole thread sometimes, to try to learn more about foot pain remedies and just suggestions for coping.  And I loved the cartoon.  Perfect.

Camille... the math is something else.  Here, there's some program that as long as the answer is right, they don't care how they got there.  And so many of the students are addicted to calculators.  They can't do basics in their heads.  Heaven help us all if batteries disappear.  And, yes, paperwork is overwhelming.  With literacy, there is no "answer key."  Editing, grading, comments, etc.  take hours, sad to say.  But each child deserves that one-on-one feedback and praise for whatever is right.  :-)

Teka...  Happy blooms?  I keep hoping for rain.  Everything is withering.

Happy Friday, all!  Off to upload lesson plans.  eeg.

    Cami

I am a Type 2 diabetic. Got dx'd around 2000. An A1c is a simple blood test, no fasting or drinking sugary stuff involved. You can buy these tests at any drugstore, no rx needed. They are fairly accurate.

They show how your glucose has been running for the past 3 months as opposed to the daily finger sticks. The magic number for dx is 6.5 or higher. I don't agree with the term "pre" diabetic. It's like being pregnant. Either you are, or you aren't. Either way, the person must accept it, follow docs orders(if doc has a brain) and get control. It can be done with diet, exercise, and meds. Possibly insulin.

It can kill you, it's a very slow painful process. It's nasty. That's enough for now. Any ? PM me.

Hi hermits- TGIF. Been so tired this week and glad to be to friday. Working a half day at the client site, then have a massage tonight. Ahhhh.

Teka- thanks for checking in on our fellow hermits. I have been wondering about Laurie, who I know was struggling with the nerve damage and doing the rad treatments. You are right sometimes folks disappear for awhile. I think of all the women here every day going through things. Hope we hear from our missing hermits soon!

Cami- spookie summed up the A1C pretty nicely for you! I did not know the drugstore had a test for it, good to know! I am going to stop at the lab this weekend to do the blood draw for mine and let you know what I find out.

Skittle- my BP problems have been long standing. I always managed with diet and exercise, but last year, it went really high after some abdominal surgery I had. I had a visiting nurse coming to see me and she talked to my PCP and recommended I get on some meds. I have heard arimidex can mess with all kinds of things from cholesterol to BP so do watch yours.

Oh and here are some suggestions for some SEs including feet I am trying and see some good results. I went to the health store a couple weeks ago and asked what suppliments they have for joints and explained my situation to the gal. She recommended hyaluronic acid suppliments which will help with moisture in the body. She said this acid helps with getting the moisture back into your joints and your skin will benefit too. I have been on the suppliments for almost 2 weeks and am really seeing a difference as of this week. I noticed yesterday walking fairly normally for the first time in months since the foot thing became so bad. Costs around $15 for a month's supply and give it a try.

She also recommended a topical creme called Toprocin and that really helps too. Also about the same price. These two things are really helping me with my stiff joints and sore feet! Now I have to figure out how to deal with the weight gain thing. I have put on 12 pounds since starting the meds in March and do have some water retention. Grapes are great for a natural diuretic.

Hope everyone has a good day.

You really are a long way away from me, Teka - an hour ago at 6am it was 78 degrees when I got here to work. :P   We've had a heat wave going on for over a week now.

On the suppliments - if you're undergoing treatment, make sure to consult  your MO before starting any new suppliments.  I asked mine about taking B12 and alpha lupeic acid for the nerve damage in my feet and she told me to hold off on the alpha lupeic acid because she hasn't seen enough studies to show that it won't reduce the effectiveness of the Herceptin treatments.  She okayed the B12 though and I think it has helped.

A1C - I need to have one done.  I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year with an A1C of 7.3 (which isn't bad but definitely past the limit).  My regular doctor went on leave last year and I haven't gotten around to making an appointment to see the new one I've been assigned to.  I've taken so much sick time lately that I have been reluctant to go making even more appointments.  That being said, I did go get a new perscription for glasses and got the new ones on Wednesday.  I'm trying bifocals for the first time and they take a little getting used to.  I also have a set of single vision glasses just for computer use and reading and I am using those a lot. Heh

Life is going well.  I just got a call yesterday from my brother saying the sale on my Mom's house closed this week.  That is good news and one less thing for us to worry about (and hopefully one less thing for my Mom to worry about unless she forgets that the house was being sold which is rather often, I'm afraid).   I can't remember if I mentioned it here or not but my brother in law and three of his grandchildren were in a car accident (hit by drunk driver) about a month or so ago and the kids are doing fine (no serious physical injuries) though I think the oldest has been having some worry issues that she's dealing with now.  I saw my brother in law a couple of weeks ago and he's doing okay but the recovery is slow (broken ribs and stuff).

    Jazzy

The A1c is made by Bayer. I did a free one at Walgreens. Bayer said 5.9, lab said 6.1. Accurate enough.

    Thanks Spookie.

Jinkala I'm glad u'r BIL and kids are doing well, but I can imagine having fears of that accident for a young person can be very difficult. I'm happy u'r working--I've already forgot what I read damn. sorry

Hi Jazzy u sound chipper as ever. I love how u find out about all these suppliments. Sounds good.

Well I figure Markat is super busy with her life right now, she just stops in occasionally, but I'm concerned about Laurie--maybe she's just to exhausted, well school started and more activities are going on and I know she's very involved with all of this. I hope that's it. IDK

Jinkala- good to hear from you and yes, good advice about supplements. I am going to talk to my MO about them during my next appointment. I know the doctors always steer me away from vitamins and supplements in general because most of them are never sure about how the drugs work with them.

Glad to hear about the house (I assume your mom may have some sort of memory impairment), and so sorry to hear about your brother and family and that accident. I hope everybody recovers and can get back to their lives. I live in the drunk driving capital of the US, and seen many lives changed forever because someone got behind the wheel that should not have.

Got a massage tonight and after this week, really needing to leave some stress on the table.

How's that for starting off Fall, of course this weather is stilhot and we have our a/c on

. So we probably won't even get a true fall the leaves on the trees are drying up and when it gets cooler they'll just fall off so I bet we won't get pretty colors. Oh well I'll keep my blinds down then,

My girlfriend went to that sleep clinic, she has insomnia (in fact since we've been teenagers) and here is the reason. Her brain won't let her sleep because it thinks she's going to kill it--of course she was laughing but the Dr. there said it was true. WTF Just thought I'd give u something else to think about. LOL

CC- I notice when you aren't hear and glad to hear from you! The harvesting sounds wonderful! Love fresh apples in the fall. Got fresh peaches at the farmers market a couple weeks ago.

Funn you should mention the 5K. I ran into something downtown this morning as I went to meet some friends for breakfast. Called the Color Run and sort of a give back to the community sort of thing. I saw some ladies in pink running for breast cancer there. Wish I could walk or run a 5K but my feet are not in good enough shape right now to even consider that. I hope you are able to go and enjoy being part of one of the runs that supports bc!

Hi CC, Good to hear from you.   I bet your home has wonderful scents in your home.. didn't know you  could freeze peaches. My hubby and I love peaches, I love peach pie, peach smoothies....peaches and cream. (Do I sound like Bubba on Forest Gump?) Peaches, pears, cherry tomatos, beets and lots of watermelon has been a part of my diet this summer. I have never eaten so much fruit and veggieslike I have this summer.

Has anyone ever heard or experienced vision problems after chemo?  Seems like it is mostly my right eye.   I am waiting to hear from Doc at Walmart.  It has been only seven months since my last exam.

Had a nice rain here this afternoon, still cloudy out.....suppose to get up to 90 on tuesday.  My hubbys pumkins are now up to 1000 pounds, and the watermelon is 130lbs.  One of the weigh offs is in two weeks...and then another in October. I help with covering them at night, turning off the water...things like that.  It is his gig and gets so excited with every inch they grow.

Blondie.....I pray you are doing ok, if you only have energy to read the thread, you have at it, sweet friend.  Take Care Hermits.................

Chemo raised hell with my vision.   I waited over a year after chemo for my vision to settle down before getting new eyeglass lenses.   I go to an Ophthalmologist.

No way could I do any walk LOL I'm lucky I can walk aroubd to the bathroom most of the time, but I do my excercise for my back and my side so--that's all I can do.
