Here's what cheezed me off today

Bluebird: Even squirrels know that Thanksgiving is a time for sharing...
-
Getting ready to hit the road but I wanted to stop in and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels! See you next week and may your only cheeze be on your plate! Hugs!
-
Happy Thanksgiving all! I don't think anything about the holiday will cheeze me off, since we all voted the same way (no arguments...) , and I only have to take devilled eggs and Waldorf Salad to dinner. Easy peasy, that's how I roll. Hope you all have family and/or friends to be with, too!

Got a bit cheezed last night as I started gathering the stuff for the pumpkin pie for making it today. While gathering the spices I needed I found that I was out of ground ginger. Had to make a quick trip to get some more after hubby got home.
-
MOm...I've ruined a few recipes by not checking my ingredients first and I absolutely, positively, get cheezed when I do not have what I need. Of course, it is usually last minute. I recall a placard that said something like...
Failure to plan on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part
In my case it needs to read: Failure to plan on MY part DOES constitute and emergency on MY part.

I'm going with the 'sometimes' story LOL

Just want to remind some of you that there are people on this thread that are dealing with parents with Alzheimer's and dementia and it is more heartbreaking than you can imagine. Please use good judgement before you post. After all, we don't want to hear cancer jokes, although I've had some people think it's ok to tell them around me. I know it wasn't intentional, but sometimes words can hurt.
-
rohanna,
you have a good point. I apologize. My only intention is to bring humor to stressed out patients. As i read posts here, i see certain stressful situations of people and I try to inject humor as a way to make things lighter for them. Some appreciate like magiclight, who i met in another thread, others, I dont know.
I respect your opinion on this and i am deleting my posts. So sorry.

Overall we had a good Thanksgiving but my cheezed off moment came at the end of the day. My family all know my husband just had all the axillary lymph nodes removed from one side for stage 3 melanoma, although they're unaware that the day he has his wound check I'll be having a needle aspiration to biopsy what we all hope is fat necrosis.
As we were all saying goodbye my brother gave me a hug and said, "You must be glad this is all over!" I gave him that look many of us who have been exposed to stupid comments know all too well and said "Huh?" He repeated, "All over!" with a smile. I just mumbled "wouldn't that be nice."
Husband's statistical chances of surviving 5 years hover around the 50-50 mark and I could be facing my second recurrence in 5 years, yet it's "all over! (insert smiley faces, unicorns and rainbows)" Grrrrrrrrr.
-
gmmiph, as I said, I realize it wasn't intentional. Heck, we're all guilty of it once in a while. And humor is welcome here, in fact I enjoyed the plumber one!
Oh, Lulu, I'm praying so hard for you and your husband. Please keep us updated. And as for brothers, mine had to ruin the last 30 minutes of our celebration because he wasn't the center of attention. I refused to attend his pity party (after all he's in good health) and walked away. Someone always has to be a jerk!

It cheezes me that there are so many awful people in the world that have reared their ugly heads. I can't even read an article on the internet without seeing the filth and rotten trolls getting into every crack and crevice. A year ago anyone could read a yahoo article and the comments regarding the news would be happy, sad, interesting, etc. Now it's just centered around the hated of people. Such a bummer.
-
The Sunday Seattle Times had a long article in the magazine section about a woman who has helped others her entire life. She dresses in bright African dresses and looks fabulous. She worked for child welfare, became a social worker in the schools to help poor children get what they needed to succeed. She had her own and foster kids. One of her son's moved to Africa because he felt more comfortable there. She bought land near his and built a school when she found out most kids couldn't afford to go. She works with black prisoners in the state prison - meets with them 1 or 2 x a month to discuss what brought them there and how they can change their lives when they're released. She also works with an organization that helps newly released prisoners in the transition to outside life. It was so uplifting to read about a positive woman who was doing everything she could to help others.

Wren, those are the stories I like to read/hear about. Thank you for sharing. I've chosen not to participate in the hate mongering. As we all know, life is too short.
-
Nice story Wren. It's very hard to not comment on various online stories, but sometimes I type what I have to say and then I delete it :-). I've realized that if I comment back on what is probably some troll anyway, I have just sunk to their level. I really want the old internet back from a year plus ago. Oh well, nothing stays the same.

My main focus lately has been the terrible wildfires that are ravaging the east end of my state. This is my husband's neck of the woods and he still has family and friends there. The devastation has been heartbreaking and we've just learned that the missing couple from Memphis have been found deceased. Now we are looking into ways to help those that have been affected. Please keep them in your prayers after the worst fire disaster in over 100 years. The drought is still on and the possibility of more fires is expected. We need rain and lots of it!
-
Rohanna, I can't even imagine what it would be like to come home to ashes and foundation with the home and contents completely gone. DH grew up in Oak Ridge, so he's mourning the Smokies burning. It must have been complete chaos. They aren't even sure who is missing.
-
Wren, congrats for marrying an Oak Ridge boy! We are getting reports from my DH's family that the fires are out after some badly needed rain. Now the searches begin. Seems the main problem was the tornado-like winds that fanned the flames and sparks before evacuations could begin. Death toll is up to 12 as of this morning. The missing Memphis couple didn't make it, but their 3 sons are recovering in the hospital.
-
So I actually started to read a book today. First time in years (hate to admit). My son talked about this book called Ishmael and I figured it would be a good distraction from the internet news. It is very philosophical so I am sure we will have things to talk about when I finish. Ever since our cozy thread was ambushed, I've been posting on another thread where political discussion is welcome. I will still check in here since this was always my favorite place, but I'll keep topics on other cheeze =:-).

Has anyone tried this Keranique stuff to regrow hair? They have it at Ulta for a pretty good price but I don't want to buy it if it doesn't work. My hair never fully grew back. And forget about eyebrows and eyelashes. Well, at least I don't have to shave my legs!
-
Rohanna, Keranique has 2% minoxidil, packaged for women. The bald men normally use 5%. Minoxidil does help grow hair, but only in the spot you use it and as long as you keep using it.
Years ago, I had a boyfriend who suffered from alopecia areata. He never used Minoxidil because it doesn't last. I dragged him to a top university specialist, trying to get something that would help. We never found anything, unfortunately. He hated being bald. I cared not one bit. People are inside, not outside.
I lost my hair twice for cancer. No hair is much easier. Now I have to worry about how to make it not look like a mess. So I guess, my hair cheezes me...
-
Have never had to use this product.
-
Hernie, I understand there are some scary side effects to minoxidil so I'll pass. I'm keeping the hair I have short. I did find some conditioning mousse at Sally's Beauty Supply that makes your hair seem thicker. It's from Ion. It's a good conditioner too. Saw it on Project Runway and thought what the heck, I'll try it. Also found some Hask Argan oil shampoo and conditioner on sale at Ulta and tried it. I'm really loving it. I'm at the point now that some days I just pull on a hat and go!
-
my derma said once you start using it you must forever. I didn't want to do that. About a year later, in a fit of desperation I bought some. Said to keep away from kids and pets. Hmmmmm
I'm in Florida between the heat and hot flashes, I sweat a lot. Was afraid my dogs would lick me and ingest it. Nope. No sick doggies here, took it back.
Spookie has enough hair for both of us. I joke I'll get her cut down have a wig made so we match.
-
Spookie is absolutely gorgeous! How old is she? If you guys had matching wigs, you'd be the bomb!
I have some good news to share for a change. We've been trying to get my mom qualified for a scooter chair for 2 years but they wanted her to have 2 years of physical therapy first. WTH? My mom isn't mobile and is 87 years old. 2 YEARS? The other day I was cruising a resale/swap site and a lady was giving a scooter chair away. I contacted her immediately and she gave my mom the chair. She's loving it! She's already taken a few little trips around the property and goes all over the house. It's a Christmas prayer answered! The sweet lady who donated the chair lost her daughter to cancer 3 years ago and lost both her parents recently. When she saw how happy Mom was with the chair, I don't know which of us cried harder. Sometimes people are wonderful! I intend to pay this forward. In the meantime, watch your toes! Granny is mobile!
