INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

My sister works not that far from there and called me on her way out to lunch. I went into the bedroom to keep working on my contract on the laptop and then saw the news. I called her right back and said to be careful. Those shooters are still out there. Something going on in Pasadena closer to wear she works now, although they said not related? I called her again to be careful. This one sounds different.
I hope no one here is directly affected by this. Although I suppose we are all affected by this to some degree......
-
chevy. - another mass shooting. So sad. Are kids shouldnt have to be afraid to go to school. I like the seenager. Glad Theresa is doing OK. What is a ham hock? Love white beans and cornbread with a ham bone
Sas. - wow that's so many Dr visits. Sounds expensive. Wish I knew you then to offer support. Were you part of bco sck then ? I still think about our bluebird and wonder how her family is doing. Just happened way too fast
Susan. - gorgeous ocean. Is the pink stuff sand ? Hope you had a good day with your mom and she was clear headed.
I am staying another night at hospital. Still had vomiting last night even with pheneran and zofran via IV. Also mo says wbc count decreasing not increasing so more antibiotics. Dss gonna be so upset. It scares them so much for me to be here. They will be home from school soon and will be calling me. I don't want to tell them. Ugh. Just saying we need another day of IV antibiotics. They don't need to know all the details. I did get to show them the ct scan results last night. So hoping that encourages them.
Hugs all around
Hootie hoo
-
Patty- I am sorry you have to stay longer. Hugs sister, tell your family they are getting you better faster by being there. Sending you love and healing prayers.
-
Peppermint.... they look like this.... But you have to cook any fatty meat, separate, and cook the beans in another pot.... when the beans start to get soft, throw them in with the ham, or hocks, or whatever... with lots of onions and garlic....
Beans won't get soft if you cook them with meat, because of the fat... I like Pinto beans!
When your boys come visit, can you have ice-cream or something with them? Or I'm just thinking of how to make it easier on them, rather than seeing Mommy in the hospital.....
When I had my back surgery, and my Grand-sons came to see me, they sat on the bed with me, and I tried to act like I was in no pain... it made me feel better... but on the inside you are falling apart.... I'm so sorry......
-
Hootie hoo, Patty! Tentative threads of friendship from a comparative stranger, floating in from Michigan.
Tonight, waffels and bacon for dinner. Tomorrow, an opera in Chicago (The Merry Widow), and bringing you all with me.
-
Chevy, I use small white beans with ham hocks. Throw everything into the pot and cook. Always turns out fine. Have never cooked the hocks separate.
Tomorrow we move MIL to new studio, 2 floors up. She took the news well and so far hasn't balked. Tomorrow we'll see how it goes. We're also taking the checkbook away from her. She's not going to like that. She accused her son of writing checks for donations, which we have repeatedly asked her to stop.
So, wish me luck.
-
Patti, Mom used to use navy beans (small white). To serve, we put cornbread in the bottom of a bowl with chopped onions and tomatoes on top. Then put the bean soup over all that. It was really yummy.
-
Now hungry for bean soup. Geez, thanks, guys!
-
At least it's healthy!
-
Depends on how much ham goes into it, I suppose.
How crowded is Ms. Patty's hospital room?
-
queen. Plenty room for more. Come on . please bring something sweet thst is not s liquid.
had a good day. But been vomiting tonight. Told nurse only nausea I DO NOT plan on staying another day. Hopefully she won't walk in on me. I know I know. Stay and get well. But it sucks for everyone in my family. Not vomiting often enough to get dehydrated but of course I am getting iv fluids and IV nausea meds so not positive I can keep oral meds down at home. Boo. Trying to sleep but keep popping up to run to bathroom to vomit. Maybe they won't hear it in there. Shush. Top secret friends.
Laying in s hospital bed for 5 days has my back screaming. On pain pump but cant take that home hoping oral pain meds will stay down at home. I am positive when I get back in my own recliner and bed my back will feel better. I am thinking this vomiting tonight might just be from being in too much pain and not because there is some infection still going on.
Hope everyone is sleeping pain free in s warm house tonight.
Hootie hoo
-
hang in there Patty. If they're giving you anti nausea meds, why aren't they working? Could they be making you sick?
Hope you doing better soon.
-
Patty, have they given you Emend? Also, could the pain meds or one of the recently added drug be the culprit? They need to send a detective (like Ms. Chevy) in to investigate! I can't imagine how your throat feels
-
Patty, I'm sorry you are still stuck in the hospital. Hospital beds are the pits. Can they get you a different mattress or topper for you mattress?
-
Thank you LMG and Ms. CHEVY for the news.
Ms. Sas, sometimes distraction is therapeutic.
Ahhhm, so ham hock is a fancy name for pork knuckle.
-
Lover, that's it. If you buy a ham and it's the shank portion, it's the very end that tapers down that is real boney. I have been known to boil the ham bone with the ham that is just too hard to cut off to make a stock if I'm not making bean/split pea/potato soup at that time. I then work the meat off the bone and put it in the stock, then I freeze it to use later. It works like a charm.
-
Patty, hope you are better so you can get sprung later today. Make sure things have settled for you so you don't end up back in the hospital. Sending ((((HUGS)))).
-
Smaarty, fingers crossed for a smooth transition for MIL. She doesn't have to walk stairs, does she?
Susan, that cake looks yummy, also like you possibly knitted it. Do you know the gender of grand Baby? Maybe you said, and I missed it.
Rose, also good to see YA ..... Wishing for a restful, sound sleep.
It warmed up here today, hit 30 degrees. When the temps are frigid, 30 degrees seems like a heat wave. It is supposed to get to the low 40s over the weekend.
Loveroflife, excellent photos, here & on Pattys thread.
PattyPeppermint, anxious for you to get home, settled in, hanging with those caring sons of yours. I hope tomorrow is the day. Sorry they have to "report" you.
Zills, Mags, Cubbie & all....a goodnight...
-
hootie hoo pattie and rose. It's tough when you don't feel good and have youngins. I second treats together in hospital and limiting info. Maybe a game? Hope you get some relief. I hate hate hate puking. It's a spectator sport in my house.
It's bad when you are prowling around and there is cake! In the middle of the night. Why oh why didn't I take something at bedtime? Because I hate pills and the pain wasn't much. Still not much but increasing and I'm aware. Must eat when taking pills right?
No sas. Not too personal. Mainly fatigue. I let the kids put their ornaments on. Drove me batty that they were playing with them and dropping them. I didn't want to squash their enthusiasm with my grumpiness so just left it with theirs. Still need to put candy canes on. It's a kid tree.
I hear little miss up. You can always tell when she's sick. Since having her tonsils out, she sleeps good and doesn't snore. Back to both with respiratory junk and a rash. Fun times.
I'll check the tea shop link out. Can you tell a difference with the afternoon teas? Are they not as strong? Wish I could go with you.
Take advantage of hubby's offer. Prime is a wonderful thing! I don't have a kindle either but have the app on the ipad. But prefer a real book.
Might have to make some ham and navy bean soup or somebody said kale, sausage and bean? Tired of turkey! Been eating odds/ends from freezer and leftovers. Need to do a big shop but going to my sisters for the weekend to see Transiberian orchestra.
Will have to try tomatoes in my soup. It's definitely soup and crockpot weather. 20s tonight.
-
Ms. Peppermint: just checking in to let you know you've got ME thinking about not only those ghastly hospital beds but solid sweets. Are we thinking dessert-y things or brunch-y things? But either way: my lips are zipped about your forays. We admit nothing.
-
Aw geez Peppermint! THAT is the worst.... throwing up... THAT and being dizzy, and falling over... When I would throw up, I have to make sure my upper plate was out.... otherwise I would probably lose it.... So SEE? Not only was I sick, I looked like mush-mouth-murphy.
So beans get soft being crocked? I know SOME people use "play" beans.... which means canned..... Okay..... I'll try them crocked, instead of the 2 pots on the stove. But probably all night, right? This has to be researched.
Can you beLIEVE that it was a stupid HUSBAND AND WIFE that went entirely NUTS and shot up San Bernardino? Damn good thing they are dead....People like that deserve to be!...... NOT like the ones they went after. What a bunch of sicko's!
What would it be like in a world without ANY guns? And no wars, or people so hell-bent on destroying everyone that disagreed with them? I know that is a dream-world, but you just get so sick of all these senseless killings!
Okay.... going to meet my Daughter at Red Robin today.... That is our favorite place.... then make a Costco run.
Smarty! Hope all goes well with your MIL.. Is she in AL?
When my Dad was hospitalized, I had his neighbor take his valuables out of his night-stand, and his check-book out of his pants pocket when he left!
His "nurse" had been taking his stuff, when she would take care of him! I worked with SF Nursing Care, and got her fired, but it was a little late.... she even had her Mother come in to help her take things one day.... Dad heard them in his bedroom, and he called me here in Denver. I told him to send them home, that I would call the agency, and have his neighbor go over there....
The gal called me, and begged me NOT to file charges.... but she lost her job anyway.... Can't trust everybody....
-
-
Patty I hope you feel well enough to get to go home today. Makes my cough seem inconsequential. Warm wishes....
-
Patty- sending hugs and love your way. Here is wishing you are home very soon and resting comfortably in the recliner.
-
Chevy, I do my bean soup on the stovetop using ham stock from my freezer because hubby isn't ready for the soup right after having the ham.
Patty, hope you are sprung today.
Hope every one has a good day.
-
GOOD morning lovely ladies.
-
Ms. Smaarty, hope all goes well today with MIL.
Susan, how was shopping with mom
-
Politically incorrect.................it was terrorism............
-
Chevy, you asked what a world without guns would be? Just look back to before there were any. Nations walked in and conquered other nations with knives, and swords, and spears, and bows and arrows. Greece had an empire that extended across the Middle East, and Rome conquered Britain. It's not a gun problem, it's a human nature problem. The solution with guns is not fewer but more. You couldn't get rid of guns any easier than you can put toothpaste back in a tube. So give everyone a gun, and teach them to use it. If there had been one person with a gun in that room yesterday, how many would have died?
Off my soapbox. Internet was down last night and all morning so I'm just now catching up. -
Mags with you.................
