INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Spookie, glad Kris is OK. Thank goodness he was microchipped, you could have been looking for him for quite a while if they hadn't been able to identify him so quickly. I remember when my co-worker lost her dog, back before microchipping, she had to call around to all the shelters every day until he turned up. He was very lucky, somebody saw him walking down the road and picked him up and turned him into a shelter in the neighboring town. He'd lost his collar somewhere along the way, so no tag.
-
where's everybody??
Spookie, glad you and Chris are ok.
I finished this today. And I have my iron out 24/7. So 2 done. I'll have to redo the first one if I keep to the black and white theme
-
Serious that was really the way cashews grow? Loverly, are you pulling my chain?
Zills, one of the old irons? What are you going to use it for?
I've had over a dozen brain MRI's. Really excited to hear on the news the Gadlinium can cause problems. Always sumpin. Refused it today.
-
Goodness Spookie that's awful, glad he's home. I hadn't turned the page yet
-
Spookie that's something for you to say you want a scotch and soda. Oh chickie, what a scare.
Susan, tramadol is the go to drug for my vet to prescribe. Dini whose got a bum knee gets it almost daily. I've never seen any s.e's
-
Morning Chevy You UP? Hahaha, I'm up before you. I did go to bed at 9 last night and slept till 3;30
-
Smarty the black and white theme is great. I like the contrast of the yellow star and the side piece with space and stars in greys and blacks. Will you do an entire quilt in this? Did you get a replacement tree?
Well I had the Herceptin and they gave me an xgeva shot. Ouch to the shot. I think it has effected my neuropathy cause it's 1:30 am and I have been thrashing around half asleep and then irritated by tingling and feet feelings.. Ambien and pain meds are not touching it. After the infusion I did a little shopping for the kids and standing and walking makes my hips and legs hurt. I am assuming the rads and their effects. Got some great xmas gifts so I am happy about that.
Have to ask some of the nurses here what they think about these lab changes. My PCP did some labs at Quest that were collected on 10/29 at 1:30pm. They were not processed until 10/30 at 1:30 the next day when the results were reported. My AlkalinePhosphotase was 239. (normal 33-130). Then my liver values were AST- 67 (10-35) and ALT 129 (6-29), Albumin was 3.4 (3.6-5.1). The amount of ascites fluid I am pulling off weekly has gone from 4 to 5.5 liters. The color has changed from dark amber to light amber. I am always tired, which I atribute to effects from radiation to (hips, left shoulder and lower right leg) ascites and fluid shifts, bone mets.
So when I went into the onc office she decides to redo all the labs and run tumor markers. It's November 4th and the "old labs" are just from 7 days ago. The labs were run within an hour and Alkaline Phosphotase dropped to 158, AST 21 (from 67) and ALT 30 (from 129), Albumin remained the same at 3.4. So things were back to normal and while that's great, I can't figure it out. Are the Quest Labs so elevated because the tubes sat for a day? Could the spike in Alk Phos be because of bonekill off from the rads I had done 2 weeks ago? The liver labs just zipped back to normal. I have been on cipro for a UTI. Maybe since it was the end of my 3 week cycle, the herceptin was out of my system/liver and dropped the liver labs. It's 2 am and I am puzzled over labs. Wish me luck sleeping on herceptin.. cause I am not!
-
Poor spookie and kris.
yes the xgeva is ouchy initially. I'm not having any noticeable ses except maybe more hot flashes. I have a crazy life so who knows. There is an xgeva thread in stIV.
Labs? Can't help. But glad they went down.
I prefer Barry's tea. Lyons is ok too. Depends on where you grew up.
-
Rosie, When you wrote the other day about the color change, my first thought was change in bilirubin dumping. For me, I've had enough times where labs were drawn right before a new drug and were normal, then either at the end of a new drug or closely after with changes in the ALT and AST, that I'm wary of all new drugs. Don't remember ever having changes in Alkaline Phos.
Gonna look at wiki BBL
-
Hey Hi! WHAT are you guys doing UP?

Alkaline Phos--Wiki
Diagnostic use[edit]
Normal ALP levels in adults are approximately 20 to 140 IU/L,[16] though levels are significantly higher in children and pregnant women. Blood tests should always be interpreted using the reference range from the laboratory that performed the test. High ALP levels can occur if the bile ducts are obstructed.[17] Also, ALP increases if there is active bone formation occurring, as ALP is a byproduct of osteoblast activity (such as the case in Paget's disease of bone). Levels are also elevated in people with untreated Coeliac disease.[18] Lowered levels of ALP are less common than elevated levels. The source of elevated ALP levels can be deduced by obtaining serum levels of gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT). Concomitant increases of ALP with GGT should raise the suspicion of hepatobiliary disease.[19

I'm so sorry Spookie! I would have had a heart attack hearing that! Just happy that it all worked out okay.
And another MIRACLE!!!!!!!!!
Guess WHAT????
Theresa is "back"!!!! Judy called yesterday afternoon, and said "I have someone who wants to talk to you".... My heart just stopped... I thought it was Steve telling me something happened.........
Theresa, in our squeaky little voice that we always say when we say hello to each other, SAID "hello?" And I YELLED "Damnit Theresa, YOU SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME, OH MAN I CAN'T BELIEVE IT, I WAS SO SCARED THAT I LOST YOU.... And I cried! She said "Oh honey, I'm so sorry, I just didn't know anything for awhile....!!!
Then I got back to normal, and we talked, and laughed, and I get chills just talking about it! So SHE CAME BACK!!!!! It's just a miracle I think.... No, wait, it was all the prayers..... It just wasn't her time! I missed her calling me every night, and us just laughing, and being "together"....
I think it was the combination of Anemia, dehydration, the pain meds, UTI, and God only knows what was going on... All I know is it's over. Maybe she hit her head when she passed out... We are going to see her either after the Dentist today, or tomorrow for sure... It is snowing right now... so don't know how far I want to drive in this crap......
Okay... now Spookie will be up, and running to get her phone to take a picture of her 72 degree weather... !
I am just soooooooo happy! I will tell her stuff like "they saw you running down the hall naked? Do you remember that?" And "Who KNEW you could sing and dance that well?" She will laugh.... We'll stop and get her a cup-cake, or maybe a whole box, for her and her room-mate, and I could put a candle in one, and sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to her when we walk in! Because it IS!
She doesn't remember anything from over a week ago! She sure didn't know who I was, and I was afraid to go back.... I didn't want to scare her.
So THANK YOU GOD!

Went to bed, slept well. Didn't have the Scotch, I can't drink anything. Throat swells shut.
Mags, why would I beat Kris pink and purple? I hope you thought you were funny. I don't beat my dogs.
Chevy, I wish 72. More like 90 today. Glad your friend is much better.
-
Chevy, no better news than Theresa being able to have a phone visit.
-
YAY Chevy Great news
Anyone having internet connection problems. I've been on twice with my cable provider and once with my tech buddies since 4 am. Keep losing connection?
Spookie, knew you wouldn't have the scotch, but you just even saying meant to me you were way stressed out.
-
Chevy: dabs away a few tears on your (and Theresa's) behalf, and I don't (really) know either of you. Wonderful!
-
Chevy..yeah. Have fun
. More time is priceless
-
spooks, I have been meaning to ask you how your pump for arm is doing. I think it's you who has it.
I leave tomorrow morning to go back home. Hubby really misses me when I'm gone. So sweet.
Hi Rosie, hope you are feeling better today
Mammaray, how are you doing? In my prayers always:)
Have a good one yall
-
Spookie, pink and purple is different from black and blue. Think wet noodle. It comes from a story my cousin tells of when her granddaughter was little and used to scold her dolls, telling them she was going to beat them pink and purple. Her mom may have threatened her with it, though she never did, and DGD has grown up awesomely with wonderful kids almost grown too. I would never take a hand to my kiddos. Though Rose is truly a manipulative bitch– I can say that, because it's true!
Chevy, so delighted you have your buddy back! Cupcakes, and lots of them!
Meeting Beatmon for lunch, I hope! -
ok Mags.
Susan, I used it every night for a month, didn't notice but a tiny difference. Could be because it was, is, sooooo hot humid here still. Glad I didn't pay for it. And my PCP is trying to find a diuretic I can tolerate. This last one encourages estrogen production!! No WAY am I doing that one!!
-
Spookie, may I ask what diuretic that is? I'm suppose to be on one but I started having severe muscle cramps in legs and feet.
-
Chevy- that is good news you had a good conversation with Theresa. You were scared there for a bit. I am glad she is doing okay and able to share more on what is going on.
It is cold and snowing in the mountains here. Winter is moving into the west.
-
Drove to get diagnostic tests. Brain needs f/u on demyelinating disease. NO tumors. US of liver, no tumors, just fat.
-
Sas, Yay, no rumors.
Chevy, so glad to hear Theresa is doing better.
-
Good grief Spookie. I hope you had a good stiff adult beverage or alternately some Xanax after that. (Oh I see no double scotch. sorry) I agree that the vet is a keeper for doing that. I kinda wish I had chipped this dog, she is wily and fast and really does not respond to food cues much. I still have all the equipment to do goats including the reader but it is not Home Again chips but livestock AVID chips. If she was a big dog I'd probably risk doing it myself. The 1st goat I had done vet did in the shoulder. Awful nasty looking 16 gauge needle.
BUT so glad Kris is home safe and sound - considering his adventures.
Battening down the hatches. Mags you going to get this nasty weather? Talking maybe a few more tornadoes that they were forecasting yesterday. I just put my weather radio on. Sun is out and heating up quickly. Not a clue what the shelter looks like. Nobody's been down there since spring. Oh since I started this now under tornado watch until 8pm. And yup Mags/Beatmon in it too.
Rosie - I'm with Sassy. I thought color change was bilirubin too unless the volume was down - which I don't think you've had decreased volume at any time. How closely does the last lab draw correlate to the dark ascites fluid? I too thought the change in alk phos might be from the rads "damage" quotes because this damage is good damage. And yes very good for Wiki - same lab or diff lab? So - what does the PCP have to say about it? How does any changes correlate to how you feel? I'm thinking maybe a 3rd test in a couple of weeks - early or midweek early morning so specimen doesn't sit very long. I'm keeping fingers crossed just a flukey test.
CHEVSTER - caps for a reason. YAY for Theresa being back to herself. Miracles of miracles. My best bet is the UTI. I've seen it happen I can't tell you how many times. Like I said on hospice we mostly didn't even test. Family would say pt behavior has changed (usually more combative) and we'd medicate for UTI. You're having winter and I'm having spring. So not fair. AC has been turned off for a couple of weeks. I just flipped it back on, may not come on but it might later.
Sassy - Any chance your post polio has an influence on MRI? Never thought I'd say Yay for fat, but here goes - YAY for fat.
-
Thanks Zills for the Barry's tea suggestion. I know I've seen it somewhere (other than Amazon that is). Maybe Cost Plus World Market?
Smaarty - The quilt is going to be lovely I adore black and white things. Except for dog hair I would have a black/white house. My wardrobe is mostly black/white as it is.
So not good. TVN storm chasers converging on S OK and N Texas.
-
Kath, I was on Lasix and potassium. Then another that starts with T and potassium. That class needs to be taken with potassium. The latest stuff is spironolactone. I did a quick check on it, specifically mentioned estrogen and breast cancer. PCP is checking out the studies, and contacting my bs. Not gonna take it yet.
Are you on cholesterol meds? They are notorious for leg cramps. Try a hand full of almonds daily. They are high in magnesium, which can help the cramps.
-
Yay for no tumor in Sass and for Chevy's Theresa. Love the black and white quilt top. To all those in pain and sadness, I am sorry and said a quick prayer for you. Goats, my hatches are tightened. Getting ready to ride out a stormy night and cold front! Be safe too!
-
Mema- that cold front is moving through here today and sending it your way. Stay warm!
-
Spookie, I was on hydrochlorothizide for years. Feet and legs started cramping so bad that toes would curl and muscles became firm/hard and so sore afterwards. PCP switched me to generic lasix to be taken twice a week so the cramping would stop. Well that didn't work so I just decided not to take anything. Thanks for the tip about the almonds. Maybe I'll try the lasix again. A little gun shy about it. Was on generic Lipitor but went off that because of progressing memory problems. Thankfully that has cleared up. PCP does not like me advocating for myself. Long story on that
