I'm such an idiot----------------- CONGRATULATIONS PAWPRINT!!!!!!!!
-
Hi Rose- I hope you are feeling better. Is the pain from the rads easing?
Going into the 20s tonight. Blast o winter here today.
-
Spookie, that's it. When I was teaching, the standard joke among the coordinators was "what are we teaching this year". Not everything changes that fast, but it gave me a cautious outlook to always take a look to see if somethings changed before I put my foot in my mouth. My OCD just doesn't do well with my foot in my mouth. Oh yeah, 12 years of nuns and three years of Jesuit ghosts hanging around in my brain doesn't make things easy.
-
MemaSue - I hope that stuff bypasses your house. We only had a few minutes of intense rain, no hail. I see it's still trudging across the northern suburbs.
Pawprint - congratulations on 5 years. Load of malarkey about the no scans. "So without the scans, the liver doctor cannot see me" Whose rule is that? Not to stir the pot, but even without the scans I would sure feel better in spec. hands with a known liver tumor of whatever variety it is. What do they believe it is?
-
Sas, huh? Changes?
-
Storm's here! Pawprint, may I share your story?
-
Y'all stay safe!! Hit the basement or storm cellar.
-
Oh my, Chevy, I had thought Miss Theresa might be better after her UTI cleared up, but wow, what a turnaround. So glad you two can talk again!
I'd heard of spironolactone for female hirsutism, but it was just a few days ago that I read that it was something to avoid if you have estrogen positive breast cancer. It seems like there are a lot of things to watch out for when you are trying to avoid estrogen. I think I have a lot of reading to do over the next couple months to get up to speed on this.
Mags, great photo. I love flan, hope you enjoyed your meal!
Pawprint, congratulations! I'm confused by your insurance companies stance, and not sure it makes much sense.
-
Rosie posie, not on new treatment yet. Prob with new test, can't get neck and noses checked out as often. New testing can be dangerous if overused on neck area. Neck are shows first. Kinda like to see it there before vital organ. I'm kinda like that, you know.
Test a couple weeks ago show stable in all the areas, but these last couple weeks i feel pain in neck nodes again. Haven't told anyone yet. They all worry too much. Now with a baby coming, I might hold back information.
Night night ladies

sleep well all

-
Susan,you'll tell the doctor right?
-
Oh my!! The playground monitor worked overtime today. There is lack of comparative studies and data with Bumex which is also a loop diuretic. I think that makes it tricky to draw conclusions for using Bumex over Lasix. Docs like evidence based recommendations. Bumex might not be on a lot of hospitals' or insurances'formulary. Just my guess.
-
Susan, I am sure you will bring that up to your MO.... I hope.
There is another way to get quinine--eat bitter melon. It's BITTER. I love it, but family gives it a thumb down. It's an acquired taste.
Two varieties..
This is even more bitter than the top one. The leaves can be used for hives or itching. You crush the leaves and apply it directly to the itchy rash. Amazing how people figured that out.
-
Rose, that is very puzzling with the fluctuation in the liver enzymes. Have you heard of RILD? Just hope it was a fluke and that you will continue to feel better.
Ms. CHEVY, have a blast with Ms. Theresa. You have to share with us your visit. The online album is pretty neat. There are so many options you can choose to personalize it.Have not done it myself, but have seen it from a friend and niece.
-
Thanks gals! LilPaws! WHERE have you BEEN? And how is ms. Annie? Or am I getting you confused with someone else? And I don't know anything about liver anythings... just good to see you again...
And yes Cubbie... Some of you DID tell me about the UTI connection, and even though I didn't get it, you knew what you were talking about. I'm going to take her picture today, if she will let me... She was getting her hair done yesterday, so there is no excuse...
Yes Loverly... My Daughter is so enthused about this "album" thing... She works on it HERE, on MY computer, because of the large monitor... Yesterday she flew out of the chair with a leg cramp, and then her trigger-finger is driving her nuts... but she is relentless! I just sit there and crochet, and enjoy her being here....

in this mornings paper
-
Meanwhile in NM, 25 degrees this morning!
-
I see Bumex used frequently at my hospital. Not as much as Lasix, but often. Lasix is still the first line diuretic. It's been around longer and I'm sure it's cheaper than Bumex.
And I remember when the doctors prescriber quinine for leg cramps. 325mg. And there was a lower strength one with Vitamin E that you could buy over the counter. Q-vel? I think was the name. Can't get that anymore. I had people tell me that it helped, despite what the studies "prove".
Never tried bitter melon. Looks interesting.
Chevy: so happy to see that your friend Theresa is back to her old self!! YAY!!!
-
http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/2007/01/22/fda-bans-quinin-1/ Here's an article on the banning of quinine. I remember when that happened,, had forgotten the year. 2007,,, wow,, it's been a while.
-
Jazzy: Don't even think about sending that back.
-
Hi, Glennie and Loverly. thanks for the info.
Loverly, just checking in before bedtime
Anyone ever hear of a fried brain/skull/ scalp? Something very weird happened after the MRI. My head hurts. Eyes tearing strange. Seeing PCP.
Jazzy yikes 25*, always thought of NM as dessert country. Guess I never paid attention. Fireplace?
-
Morning ladies!
So happy for you and Theresa, Chevy!!
Have a good day ladies
-
sas, that's weird after MRI. Did you have contrast? Good you are seeing PCP
-
Aww Sassy. Hope it gets better.
Glad you all dodged the storms.
Great lunch pix. I love Mexican food but not flan.
No bitter melons around here to try. MO recommended tonic water for my cramps last year. Ugh.
I'm so sorry paws about ins. I'm confused too. Do you have liver mets?
Chevy. Have a great time. Yes UTIs are sneaky. Can't talk nurse or hair. Just Irish tea:)
Smarty. Love the black and white. Very unusual for Christmas. Very elegant. Can't wait to see finished product.
-
DH had f/u with PCP on labs. All good, some improved! EXCEPT his psa is up. He had 35 rads for prostate about 8 years ago. PCP says not to worry, he has a shot for that, will be every 6 months. Only SE is hot flashes. DH was less than thrilled, I'm like, welcome to my world.
Asked him what it is, of course he doesn't know. This sounds like a chemo. Any guesses
-
Tonic water goes good in Mojitos, like it better than club soda there. But I can't even remember the last one I had.
Sassy - deserts are bone dry. Heat up fast, cool off fast. Besides I think Jazzy being in Albuquerque is high elevation. Turns out the "roof" ripped off was the decorative facade. Not that it didn't crumple cars underneath, it was no lightweight stuff. Miracle no one was walking out to car during it - employer there said it was a time many got off work. Passed within 1/4 mile of Ft Worth National Weather Service office. We only ended up with a few heavy spits of rain, lost power once. No hail. I've heard talk on weather board of freeze next weekend. Guess I need to get patio plants corralled. Today is cool, sunny lovely fall day. Goats are all laying out in the sun.
Chevster - no you are right about Pawprint. She has Annie Mae and Snuggs. That's why she's Pawprint lol.
Spookie - Don't know much about prostate cancer. Know anti-androgen therapy is common. Same idea as anti-estrogen. Maybe worth a repeat test before beginning treatment. Just a thought. Prayers with him and with you too. PCP? Does DH have a specialist, urologist maybe?
-
Well our heat is ON! Our high will be 55 and we are not quite getting frost at night. The sun is shining brilliantly through our liquid amber tree with it's star shaped yellow leaves. The skies are pristine blue. So as I am laying here being a bum drinking coffee and enjoying the colors out the window, I notice a pair of downy Woodpeckers marching along the the trunk! It was fun to see them as a pair. They aren't very big but striking birds; red head and black and white bodies make quite a sight. Cool thing to wake up to. Supposed to rain the weekend, so I will enjoy this sunny day. Hope you are all warm where it's cold and cooling off in the ocean where it's hot. Be well.
-
Aw Rosie, now you've got me missing my downies! Our last house was on an acre of trees, mostly blackjack oaks which are susceptible to carpenter ants when they get ready to die. So the woodpeckers were everywhere. Funny story, when we first bought the house, it had a flat roof with a cedar mansard siding and the woodpeckers loved it! We eventually replaced it with a pitched roof. I loved the place, but my knees couldn't take the stairs – it was a tri level, so always up and down. But I miss the wild acre. Do I have a pic? Let's see.
No pic of the original siding but I found one of after we remodeled. We had it sided with a concrete siding that looked like wood but would never need painting. Loved it.
-
great to hear mamma ray, grab those beautiful moments when we can:)
Sas.....not yet...sometimes you need to hold on to the thought it's all good. I will tell him next treatment. I don't hold back from him long enough to jeopardize myself. Just long enough to breathe once in awhile
