Will certainly have a drink tonight - just an infection thank goodness. I wish I didn't worry about such things but it gets me.

Have been cleaning out old stuff I had for teaching, think its time to move on and have to live every day not in the past.

Oh Aly, so relieved for you. 3jays is right, how strange to 'celebrate' an infection. Harry 4th from beautiful Miami Beach! Will post fireworks pix later.

But if you stop to think about it celebrating just an infection makes perfect sense once you have had or have cancer.....your entire perspective changes.  Congratulations on your infection, Alyson....are they putting you on antibiotics?  3jays tells me I need to always wear garden gloves because I can pick up pseudomonia from getting dirt under my nails, which I always do since my nails are still not completely back to normal and have that space under them especially on my thumbs....BUT it just isn't the same digging into the soil when I have the gloves on.

I am on my 2nd cup of coffee....hazelnut....and wondering when my father is going to get up.  He used to be such an early riser.  Sometimes it makes me sad when I see how he is slowly going downhill....but then again he is 89.  So he tells me last night after we got done discussing my decision to go for SS disability IF I can get it, that he thinks he is probably going to be looking at an assisted living assisted situation in the next 10 years.  Cripe...he will be 99 then!! Optimism has always been one of his strong points.  My mother was sort of the opposite.  But then she was never really happy that my dad brought her here to live....when they first got married they were in San Francisco and she loved it there.  Anyway, I posted this on the women with more sense thread, but I found it to be a rather funny claim to fame.....my hometown is rated #1 for Pepsi consumption in the state...this was in yesterday's Times.  Also as I have said before this area is #1 for unemployment in the state as well as the drug capital, although they are slowly shutting down the pain clinics.....more people die from drug overdoses here than anywhere else in the state.   Believe it or not, it was a wonderful place to grow up in my day...sort of like Pleasantville.

Harley has been outside for about 45 mins staring up into the buckeye tree where he saw a squirrel run up last night.....he has an obsession for squirrels.   You know it is weird, how Harley is always looking up and my other Silky Sydney never would....he would chase a squirrel and if it went up the tree, forget it, it was like magic Poof, the squirrel was gone, vanished into thin air and no amount of coaxing would get him to look up.  I am like that, I look up....I know when I was living in Switzerland I would tell my roommate about a really neat apartment I saw or a sign on some restaurant and she would ask where and I would later show her and she said Oh, I guess I never look up.  I love looking at apts that are on upper floors in the evenings when the lights are on and like imagining how they look inside....but you have to be careful about stepping off curbs or walking into poles.   LOL.

It looks like rain which was not predicted, but I am sure we will go to the band concert, rain or shine, but hopefully will be able to skip the fireworks.

Well, ladies thanks for allowing my mind to wander and ponder a bit.  Hope you all have a wonderful day....4th of July celebration for you in the states and a nice Monday for the rest of you.  I would be willing to bet my husband is celebrating the fact I am here and he is there because he can just do nothing all day long and not have me there giving him something to do or a look of disgust.

Marybe - I just watched Pleasantville for the umteenth time the other night.  I get something new from it each time I watch it.

Sounds like you are having a wonderful morning.  Happy 4th.

It's an A-Ok morning.....I as you know do not like to sit around doing nothing, but I always get a sense of "calm" when I am here.  A lot of times no one knows I am in town, so I am not getting  phone calls, there is nothing I have to do and it's just nice.  Normally I have no problem sleeping here at all and went to bed at about 9:00 last night since I all of a sudden realized I was tired.....but then it was so hot, I didn't sleep very well.  I was out digging up the hosta I want to take back home with me and remembered I had discovered it was right by a big patch of poison ivy last night so stopped my digging and came in and washed off my arms & legs, and am going to finish digging out the hosta after I get some spray to kill the poison ivy and will wear long sleeves and pants when I go back at it.  Then a few mins ago Harley saw a cat back there and was racing around the pond so now I have to hope he wasn't in it....not that he is going to get poison ivy, but I know you can catch it if they get it on their hair.....Harley's is long so I think you call that hair, not fur, right?

Oh speaking of hair, I got an email this morning from that place that gives you really nice head wraps for free (they are made like a few you let me borrow AmyJo) and they sent me one in the Cheetah pattern....you put down four that you like and then they send you what is available.  I have been into animal prints ever since they made a comeback and can't recall when that was....10 years ago?....I think they are here to say judging from what you see in the stores.  I am honestly not wearing anything on my head, depending on where I am....to me it looks bad and my pink scalp sticks out like a sore thumb, but others tell me it is not all that noticeable so it depends on where I am.  Around friends, I don't wear anything and when I go places where I don't know anyone, I don't wear anything....now tonight, well I will have to think about that one since I am always running into people where whom I have not seen for years and don't want them to think I have just really gone downhill.  Can't help it, vanity is just part of being a woman and I won't deny it.

Who is the dad in Pleasantville....is it William Macey?   If so have you seen him in that Showtime series?....Wow, what a transformation!

Marybe - Yes, it is William Macey.  I did see him in the Showtime series.  I didn't watch it.  My son said it was very gritty and I just wasn't up for that at the time.  I like gritty.  Love Sons of Anarchy.  Maybe I'll have to give it a try if it comes back for another season.

Zanfal for poison ivy.  Wash with it now or if you start to break out.  It is expensive but well worth it.  We get a lot of it when we are clearing the invasive plants and we always keep it on hand.

Maybe it's Zanfel.  Too lazy to go look Wink

Alyson, so glad it was only an infection, so it is a good thing you got it checked out so you can get it cleared up.

Marybe - I love to read you rambles.  You always manage to ramble to a happy place.  Do watch where you are going though as falling off curbs or walking into poles does hurt. ;-) and you might break something!

BarbA - I bet it is really harry there in Miami Beach with a gazillion people there for the holiday.  You and Marty be careful and have a safe time.  Hope you get to see 3jays tomorrow.

I have my monthly Aredia treatment tomorrow afternoon, so I will be out of commission for a few days after that.  I am supposed to see the NP (Nurse Practitioner) which I don't like to see and she does not really look at my chart and is apt to try and prescribe something I am allergic to for pain medication.  I have to get mine refilled and she always tries to change it and put me on something else.  GRRRRRRRR Why change what is working for now?  I may do what I did last month and insist on seeing My Onco.  We'll see what kind of mood I am in tomorrow when I get there.

I honestly cannot recall the name of that show William Macey is in...Scandalous maybe, I know it begins with an S .  Tim got Showtime and HBO and I totally got hooked on some of the shows...cannot wait for Boardwalk Empire to come back....that is another guy I like Steve Beshime (don't know how to spell it) Both of those guys were in Fargo, one of my all-time favorite movies and also I loved the actress, Francis McDormand is it?  They are all not your typical glitzy movie star types, a bit offbeat....I like them. The shows I am watching now are True Blood, Treme' and The Big C. A few people were shocked that I would want to watch a show like The Big C, but good grief I have cancer and am dealing with it, it's not like a word that I run off in a hysterical fit at the mention of.  Before the finales I was watching Nurse Jackie and King of Thrones....my niece got me to watch Game of Thrones...I need to watch Sons of Anarchy....that's another one she likes.

Amy, I was doing it today, rambling along walking Harley, thinking about who used to live in one house and then another as we were growing up and one of my dad's neighbors called out to me, don't trip there and I about jumped out of my skin.

So far no signs of poison ivy although when I came in I itching and know it was all in my head.  I probably told you how I am very susceptible to the power of suggestion.  Unlike Isabella, I bet I would be an easy subject to hypnotize.....say You are getting sleepy and my head would start bobbling and the next thing zzzzzzz.  I got the hosta out... my dad kept saying try another one and I said No, I want this one....he doesn't know there are different varieties of hostas.  We went to Applebee's for lunch and then to Lowes and I bought some blackeyed susan, and a cone flower for  his back yard.  And I got paint and primer.....won't do it today, but at least I finally got a color....even if i don't like it I will get used to it and it will be done, Finally.

My father is still talking about fireworks, saying how he is going to take a little drive in a few mins to see where the best place would be to set up our chairs....you wait and see, I will end up going out of guilt.  He should not be driving, but tell him that.  At lunch he says when our waitress comes, I will have a dry martini straight up and I said and that is precisely why you would never be able to take that little pill that might help your memory (I am thinking he may have early alzheimers, but will he have it checked out...Nooo. ) so he says with a perfectly straight face, I take enough pills.  Oh this man, drives me crazy, but I also find that he makes me laugh.

Marybe - I love Boardwalk Empire, the Big C, Treme and Weeds.  I think you would like the Sons of Anarchy.  Like Steve Buscemi (I looked it up - cheated)'s character there is a moral code that runs through their very alternative lifestyle.

I always heard that the inability to smell strawberries is an early indicator of alzheimers.  Take him shopping and see what happens.  I beeline it to the produce section everytime I feel I am slipping and leave the store satisfied - if delusional.

Marybe, my Dad has been on Aricept for Alzheimers for a number of years.  He has an occasional toddy or beer....doesn't seem to be too bothersome.

Quiet 4th here.  Did a little gardening.  Everything needs to be divided.  Broke down and put in two flowering bushes in the back flowerbed as it is becoming more than I can deal with while I am still working.  The bee balm there is amazing and the red throat-ed hummingbird spends a lot of time there.

DS came home from his week in Boston with high fever, flu-like symptoms and a huge bull's eye rash on his side.  Lyme disease it is.  DIL and grandson went to Demolition Derby and fireworks alone.

Amyjo - No album.  His new stuff is today's music.  I think it could ruin his voice as there is a lot of strain on his vocal cords with the music he does now.  I would love to hear him do some more of this gendre.  It is his first love I think.

Morning gals. Fireworks were unbelievable. We watched from the pool deck on the roof. We could see at least six different cities' displays plus tons of amateurs. too many high rises to see South Beach's but we could see Miami's great.

Heading back in a couple hours. Too bad. Work sucks. Wish I could retire.

Barb,  Glad you had a nice time.  I did also and just finished writing about it on the Sense thread.  What I was dreading turned into fun....I ran into some good old friends (they were at the fondue party I had here at my Dad's early in the year) and the husband has a office downtown so we went there to watch the fireworks and I got to yap away with Jeanne and catch up on things.  When I went with the other Tim, we used to do things with this couple all the time and he is one of the funniest guys I have even met....he and Tim should have had a comedy routine, they just were hilarious together.  And Jeanne, well she is just the nicest person ever and everyone wonders how she puts up with Bob because I am sure there is time when the jokes get old.  But we had a great time...Daddy had his firework fix for the year plus a glass of Merlot since Bob has a full stocked bar at his office.  They have 4 kids and I remember making a Superman cape for the oldest boy back when he was racing all over the house using a towel as a cape and now he's got children of his own. Amazing how time flies when you are having fun. I am going to have coffee with my friend Kris this morning (she is the one who was looking for a place in Fla, Barb) and then lunch with my friend Donna and maybe Jeanne will join us since she said just the other day she and Bob were wondering whatever happened to Donna.  I went without a scarf and don't know if anyone thought anything, but no one said a word. There was a drop in temp so last night we could open windows and it was nice and cool so I was able to sleep....Harley was dead to the world because I am sure he was pacing around worrying the entire time we were gone.

In listening to my father talk last night about who used to live where on the street we were on (Bob's office turned out to be in an old house that my Dad's uncle Albert lived in) and the football coaches at OSU before and after Woody Hayes, I am thinking there is nothing wrong with my Dads memory at all....maybe I am just too critical....maybe it's all part of being 89. Everyone else seems to think he is sharp as a tack.

Brigadoon....what do you do for Lyme disease?

Marybe, I too like to look up when walking around cities. Of course, sometimes it forces you to "dance" with someone, but you meet the nicest people doing so.

I confess it can be a little embarrassing when you walk into a light post, but there's always the chance a handsome stranger will assist in case of injury.

Maya, looking up is not so bad. It is the people texting that kill me when they walk into me and inanimate objects. Cracks me up.

Back now from Miami Beach. It was much fun and great food. We really eat well when we go there, as our friends love great food. They are coming here next time so I have two great places already scouted for us to go to. Here is a cool fireworks pic looking north. You can see about six cities' displays looking that way and you can see 4 in this pic.

Marybe - high end antibiotics.  Killing my son's stomach and he is in the first of two weeks straight on the road.  I, of course, had to be the mother and remind him that sleep was important.  Every so often I just can't help myself!!

Barb, I am jealous of all the fireworks you were able to see!  We didn't see any this year - too hot to go down to the bay and watch the local ones so we just watched TV version. I've been lucky to see many many shows over the years so I'll be okay skipping this year's ... I'll catch up again next year!
