So...whats for dinner?

Debbie, I'm so disappointed that Seaside's explanation doesn't fly since I loved it!!
You have me on the edge of my seat to learn the solved mystery!
Carrie, such an emotional day for sure. Sounds like a lovely memorial.
And hope you get to have a serious meal sometime soon!
Laurie, sending lots of
positive energy to you to get through the next couple of work days. It's great that you have your pool to relax by as spontaneously as you wish!
We had a perfectly beautiful day here at Newfound, and feel very badly for all of those who are suffering with no electricity and extreme heat along some of the Mid Atlantic East Coast states. Hope you are doing okay, Kay, and are not affected by the electrical outages.
Got my best hummingbird feeders hung today, and the hummers are very happy. For dinner we ate pizza and Greek Salad on the porch (my favorite place since it is elevated, feels like a tree house) and watched all the hummingbirds revel in their new meal offerings.
Up early to head to the Cape..... -
Hi everyone! Hope everyone had a good weekend, mine was fantastic! And I spent today shopping with my daughter then we went to see Magic Mike. OK, I have to say, I didn't really care for it. Not because I'm a prude (I read all the 50 Shades books
and I laughed my a$$ off during "Ted")...I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just didn't "do it" for me or my daughter. I think we both thought the story was lame. But we had a great time shopping and got lots of good deals. Then DH made grilled pizza for supper and we enjoyed a most spectacular sunset on the lake.
Carrie - that was a very fitting memorial service for your friend. And I will have to try a Limarita. DH bought the "19th Hole" beverage that is light beer, iced tea and lemon. I tried it - not bad on ice but I'd rather just drink light lemonade, maybe with a little Absolut Citron or Mandarin.
Laurie - for sure, you need to be rid of these sinus infections. I've never tried it, but you might check out a neti pot. Some people swear by them.
Tomorrow I am checking out another assisted living facility for my mom, much closer than her current facility. They say they want to work with us on the rate...I don't think she could afford to pay this place for more than 18 months. She's 82 and may live to 90 if she follows her mom's path.
-
What a gorgeous picture, Michelle! We did a couple of pizza's on the grill as well but didn't have anywhere near that glorious sight to enjoy our dinner by!
Lacey,
Seems like it was a pizza kind of night... lol! Enjoy your trip to the Cape!! As you can tell from my screen name, the ocean is my favorite place on the planet!!
Laurie,
Hoping your days tomorrow and Tuesday go well and the tips are just super!! -
Pizza, schmizza! I had Chinese buffet! LOL
-
Hi everyone! Boy, everyone is busy. Carrie, I am so sorry about your friend. That was a very fitting thing to do to honor her memory though. hugs.
Have a great time at te Cape Lacey. I have always wanted to go there. I hope to some day.
Good luck Deb and Laurie, I hope all goes well for both of you tomorrow.
I agree Eric, great story. You sound a lot like my brother. One time he set all my sister's radio stations to his country music station. Every time she tried pushing another button, it was just the same music playing. Maybe you had to be there, but it was a hoot.
Michelle, I love the sunset picture! Glad you had such a nice weekend.
We had a filet mignon roast fr dinner tonight. DH made it, and it came out perfectly. We had some corn on the cob and a salad with it. and some home made ice cream with caramel sauce and jimmies on it. One of the best meals we've had for quite a while. It really was Delish!
Finished herceptin three weeks ago and got my port out last week. This week I have a preop visit for nipple reconstruction, an appt. with the cardiologist and find out what I do with ythe herceptin heart damage going forward, and an appt. with the LE therapist. It feels like BC will never leave me alone. Two steps forward, one step back. -
Lol. Moon.... My daughter and her friends went to their favorite Chinese Buffet restaurant tonight! So in addition to pizza night must be Chinese was in order as well.... Been awhile since we've had a Chinese dinner.....
Kay,
So glad to hear from you!!! That dinner sounds soooo good and a BIG YAY on your "de-portation"!!!! That has to feel so much more comfortable! I am afraid that all of the never-ending doctor's appointments are just a part of our lives now but, how I wish we all could just take a bit of a break from them!
I hope that you all are getting out of the heat and that you are not in the area with extreme heat and no power!! This has been a very unusually warm winter, spring and, thus far, summer....... -
Kay, good to hear from you! I think your Sunday night dinner definitely eclipses our pizza! Filet mignon roast?! To die for......:)
I hope you do get to the Cape. I am originally a Jersey Shore gal, so when I moved to Boston for grad school, my friends and I could not wait to drive to the Cape. Well, on first look I was underwhelmed.....where are the ferris wheels, the board walks, the gaming wheels, the wild mouse and other roller coasters??!! None of that stuff there...and I soon learned to appreciate the beautiful beaches, sanctuaries, restaurants and generally different character of Cape Cod. Our time share which we've had for over 30 years is on the edge of Provincetown, so we get lots of great food and colorful entertainment, and the beaches are to die for.....our yearly ocean fix! We keep talking about retiring there but have done nothing concrete about it.
Best to you, Kay, as you deal with the myriad of medical appts on your agenda this week I hope all goes well....will be sending positive thoughts for the best of outcomes. (((Hugs))) -
Laurie- Hope you feel better and it does not drag you down while you are working, maybe its alergies? I have heard people that never had alergies before will end up with them. Glad you got a little time to yourselves. Bet those margarittas were good!
Seaside-Your right, im probably worrying about nothing (I hope) I try to remember what my mom use to say "Not everything is as it seems" But gotta admit it has my stomach in knotts.
Carrie- Sounds like a pretty rough day, I am so sorry! I have not heard of those limerittas but will look for them excited to try them now.
Luvmygoats-Sounds like you are having a great time! Take some tylenol before you go to bed. Hehe!
Tazzy- Just what you needed was a nice relaxing camping trip glad you had fun. Oohh i would lovec to go to Africa and not only visit but would love to have my lobster dinner that way yummm!
Lacey-Well, I will try to post tomorrow and let you know I am not in jail I dont want you falling off that seat of yours LOL! Have fun at the cape.
Michelle- Aw man what a bummer the movie was not that good. Darn. Good thing I am waiting until it comes to payperview i would hate to spend the money at the theater, they are so expensive. Beautiful picture fo the lake you should frame that it is stunning. Hope you find a nice place for your mom that is cost effective.
Kay- Sorry you are dealing with this crap i hope you get good news tomorrow will be thinking about you! (((hugs))
Dinner tonight was beef kielbasa with sweet peppers and onions and threw in a few peppadews for good measure. Had baked beans to go along with them. I sauted the red and yellow small sweet peppers with onions and garlic. boiled the keilbasa with water and beer then cut them up and browned them I put them on some great hogie rolls and some jack cheese soooo good. Instant lemon pudding for dessert. Originally I was going to make Michelles dessert with angel food cake but too hot to bake so had it alone with whop cream. Yummy!
-
Debbie - ah, the pre-made angel food cake works perfectly in my recipe. No one will ever know the difference!
Kay - congrats on being finished! We used to have an expression at wor...done, then finished, then complete! You're heading towards complete! And I am wishing nothing for the best of outcomes for your cardiac evaluation.
Lacey - I haven't been to P'town in 30 years, I really need to get myself to the cape this summer. Have a great time!
-
if i were to catch a lobster on the beach it would bite me. sounds fantastic tho.
I had one lobster in my life.. a long time ago.. it was delish. We don't enjoy a HUGE food budget but eat pretty darn well in spite of it.
happy days everyone
-
Kay Congrats on completing the Herceptin! It will come to an end. I am at the point where I see the onc every three months for two years...so glad to be to this point that I actually forget my appts and have to re-schedule. You will get there, too, but I know how hard it is. mmmmm homemade ice cream?
Michelle that is a beautiful picture of the lake. I like the sound of your lemonade drink. I was in the liquor store buying a gift for a friends bday and was amazed at all the flavored alcohols. My daughter laughed at me and said "geez, mom, when was the last time you were in a liquor store?" Chocolat whipped cream vodka?
Chicken ceasar salad for dinner tonight.

Hi everyone! Just back from our trip to WI. Boy was it HOT! They had record temps of 106 and 108 while we were there. Nothing much done outside...even on the 4th and many of the fireworks were cancelled due to dry conditions and concern of fire. I spent a lot of time in the shopping malls, and we ate at a lot of greek diners. My BF played cards with his 97 year old mother who beat him unmercifully! He said it was the best $20 he ever invested to see her so happy! She is sharp as a tack! His sister was dx with small cell lung cancer last year, and she seems to be in remission at the moment. She looked very good...I pray she has some quality time left.
Boy you ladies are really creative in the kitchen with all of your mini meals in the muffin tins..I'll have to invest in some as that is a great idea. I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th, and that the weather in your area is cooler. It was cooler here when we got back. We encountered several bad accidents on the way home yesterday and it delayed our trip by about two hours. One was a treck through the smokey mountains just outside of Knoxville when the main road to Asheville was completely blocked. My BF called it "witness protection country", but I thought it was a beautiful area with lots of forest and a river running alongside the road. Lots of white water rapids which I would like to experience at some time in the future...with a guide of course;)
Lots of stuff to do today...laundry, food shopping, yard work, etc. My poor little flowers are drooping from no water:(
-
it's much cooler here now.. i won't have to spend too much time watering at all.. just the lilies
(prize winning lilies from my friend/breeder that i just have to save thru the summer. They are planted in the wrong place and if i can make them last till early fall.. i'll be happy. I've lost a few)
-
Lara, Glad your trip up here was fun, even if it was hot. Today is much better, temps in the high 80's. Too bad I couldn't make to Summerfest though, I would have liked to see either Aerosmith or last nite, Neil Diamond. Apple those lillies sound beautiful. Carberry, choc whip vodka sounds good. Congrats on finishing Herceptin. Michelle the pic is beautiful. Everyone, much love

Hi to everyone. We're in Pine Hollow Resort near the small town of Park Rapids, MN. The "resort" is located on one of MN's many lakes. Every little business with rv sites and cabins calls itself a resort. This place is attractive and well-kept but not fancy by any means. During the week we have the whole resort to ourselves. Everybody including the owners goes back to their jobs. We have free use of a canoe and some kayaks. Haven't tried kayaking yet, but we will now that there's nobody to see us! We bicycled part of the Heartland bike trail yesterday and will bike more of it by transporting the bikes to various parking lots along the trail.
Cooking has been very simple. Tonight I plan to make a pan dish with chicken, mushrooms and canned artichokes. Maybe with enough sauce for some pasta of some sort. We played golf this morning and had lunch at an A&W. The diet root beer in a frosted mug was sooooo good. Not a healthy lunch. Hot dogs w/chili and fries.
I'm writing this in the Park Rapids library. Down in the "holler" our Verizon signal is too weak for internet or telephone service. The Dish tv does work.
I've been managing to keep up with most of the posts and sending mental replies I hope you all received them!
-
Carole - good to hear from you! It's nice to have the quiet of the RV park during the week.
Apple - the lilies sound lovely...how about a little picture? And you do eat quite well!
Kaara - welcome back from WI. Isn't it bizarre when it's hotter in the north country than in Florida!!! I need to make that drive through the Smokies, I think we'd love it.
My DH brought home a can of that chocolate vodka whipped cream stuff. I didn't really care for it, but maybe we didn't put it on the right drink or whatever. And now that I think about it, that was last summer when I was on chemo. I didn't like a lot of things
I do like Absolut Mandarin, Citron or Ruby Red with diet sprite and a splash of club soda. It's a great summer drink instead of gin and tonic, which I really don't like.
-
Great news! The idiots at DMV made some error although I was releaved I was kind of ticked I told the guy I had not slept in 3 nights and all he did was laugh! Arghhh! Happy though wasn't sure if I was getting hauled off to jail for a crime I didn't commit LOL!
Michelle- When I went shopping they were out of the premade angel food cake so was going to bake it, I think I will keep that in the cupboard until winter and find the already made ones.
Kaara- Welcome back sounds like you had a great time, cute story about Bf and his mom! '-))
Carol- your trip sounds so much fun wish i could be outdoors camping and enjoying life like that. Safe travels!
DH is leaving for Spokane, Washington in a bit so guess I will go play bingo at the casino tonight and have leftovers.
-
I have not tried the chocolate whipped vodka but know I would love it. I had the whipped vanilla with some OJ and I think it had grand marnier it tasted like a orange creamcycle was so yummy! Maybe your tastebuds are different now Michelle you should give it a try if not you can send it my way lol!
-
the lilies look awful.. they are alive.. they've already bloomed. i just hope to keep the plants alive till fall. It's only July 9th. i water them every day.. every day that is 106.
-
Laurie - I read your original post every time i open this thread. i sure wish i had such an accomodating husband... he and the boys need so much food.
ick
-
Apple - it might be too late this year, but if you love lilies, you really should take a trip to Powell Gardens. They have the most beautiful blooms every year. It's on Hwy 50 East, probably would take you about an hour to get there. You might also enjoy the butterfly conservatory that they have every year in August.
-
Apple- lol. I have a great husband! Tonight we had chicken quesadillas that he made. I was giving the boys a bath and he said what are we going to have? I told him my thoughts, I had nothing out after working etc and he said ok- I'll do it. God I love him.
Carol and Kay so good to hear from you!
My brain is a big pile of ooze right now so I am sorry I am not responding more but wanted to check in. Today went great, I am averaging close to 30 bucks an hour, but man do I feel old! I used to so this 6 days a week, 12-14 hours and be ok. Now, not so much! One more day and then off for the week. My MIL comes in for three days as of Wednesday....
Have a great night ladies:) And Eric!!
-
Laurie - that's really good money! I had no idea! Your DH is a good hubby and daddy!
-
I am so far behind I'll never catch up. Sounds like you have all been very busy one way or another and coming up with some great food ideas - and for that matter drink ideas
Debbie - glad all turned out OK at the DMV - dumb arses.
Apple: sorry about the lillies.
I am going to definitely try that fried chicken recipe - yum. And Michelle, you always post the most amazing pictures.
Laurie - way to go on the hourly money - that must make the hard work worth it.
We are in the middle of a thunderstorm here. Still very warm and tomorrow should be around 90 with no rain. Dinner tonight is salmon and steamed veggies with ice cream to follow.
Enjoy your evenings everyone.
-
Laurie: Please note Michelle's post about the NetiPot. I use the Neil Med sinus Rinse and it's great. Anytime I think I'm getting I cold I double up on Vit C and clear my sinuses with this saline solution. Haven't had a bad cold or sinus problems in 3 years - knock on wood. That said, hope the doc got you fixed up.
Debbie: Hooray about your driver's license. What a wasted worry weekend.
Derm doc today froze 25 pre-cancerous places. Have to go back in 30 days for several she's watching to biopsy if this 2nd freezing doesn't work. And of course those are on my face. Yuck.
Dinner was one of the last "real" tomatoes for Houston (100+ degree heat killed them all last week) along with some corn on the cob & wild rice.
-
Debbie, that's a relief (if annoying) about the driver license.
It was 106F degrees at 8pm, so we went swimming.
Apple. Nice.... thank you for sharing that (the art show pictures in the stage 4 forum).
Dinner tonight was, by request, the same marinated chicken that I posted awhile back. I got home at a decent hour from work by leaving early and I saved up stuff I can do from home...so it's off to work for me.
Everyone...stay cool and relax.
Eric -
Morning everyone!
Laurie: I admire it that you are working to bring in a few extra dollars...it is hard work...I know from hearing my DGD's talk about their jobs, then you come home to a full house!
Debbie: Glad that driver's license issue got worked out...how scary!
Michelle: Beautiful photo...I have those plants around my back patio in Florida...they bloom year round. I hope they didn't die in the hot sun this summer, but we are getting lots of rain down there so maybe not. Yes, the smokies are beautiful...it's a trip not to be missed!
eric: I actually thought I was back in Az this past week, it was so hot and dry in WI! The pool is the best place to be, and I love it in AZ because when you get out, it feels like air conditioning. I love those little misters they put around to keep people cool. All that does in Fl is make you wet and sticky!
We had lentil soup for dinner last night, along with a green salad. Trying to shed the greek diner pounds...lol! Also went to my BF's favorite custard stand while in WI....Leon's...it's been a favorite since he was in high school. I have to admit the butter pecan ice cream with pecans and hot fudge sauce was divine! Yes...I ate it all and didn't feel one ounce of guilt...hehe!
-
my weird tomato
-
Debbie LOL Someone here would bail you out:) Yes on the dreamsickle, very good, but a little too sweet for me, can only drink one...and what fun is only one? I like the raspberry flavored vodka with some fruit juice or lemonade...very refreshing.
Michelle love that photo. It is so dry here, that all my plants are drooping. We are on a well so I limit the watering to the vege plants only and the rest have to fend for themselves, but I hate it when the yard looks so bad. the grass is dead and I have not had to mow in two weeks.
Today I take my sister to my breast surgeon for her initial appt. She was having a bad day yesterday, trying to keep busy to keep her mind off everything. We all remember being there...
Last night was grilled chicken salad, I had strawberries on mine with balsalmic dsg. tonight will use the leftover chicken in maybe an alfredo sauce and use up leftover salad as a side. I have a ton of blueberries as they are plentiful now....anyone with desert ideas? (that I could make ha ha)
-
Apple LOL! If you gave it some eyes on each side it would look like an old man.
