So...whats for dinner?

I have a pizza stone from Pampered Chef, bought it many years ago. Amazon.com has some highly reviewed stones that you might like.

carberry... I've used a number of souvlaki recipes from this website. And souvlaki is so good to make on the barbeque!!
http://www.souvlaki-recipes.com/
Last night: miso soup, spicy salmon handroll with seaweed wrap, and a sushi- and sashmimi sampler platter. It was "date night" at a local, Japanese restaurant #solovesushi

I am so impressed with all your bread making and recipes! DD stayed over last night, (we're close) so I bought "Homemade" food for her, Bob Evans mac and cheese, garlic mashed potatoes, and then poached salmon from Whole Foods. Also Skinny Cow Ice Cream bars. She said, I'm going to make myself a little dinner and piled her plate high with all plus avacados and cherry tomatoes, then mixed my mint water with ginger ale. My kind of cook.
My mom never really taught me because I was refused to eat meat I feel like I let my daughter down. I hope she will find someone like Eric who likes to cook!
I will post my recipe for refridgerator pickles since I have so many cukes from the garden, when I find it.

Here is a pic of my grand-dog, Nellie, AKA Smelly, AKA no wee wee on the rug AKA Belly
I'm not going out there until it's time to see Magic Mike, it's too hot! Belly and I are watching trash tv.
I am afraid to go back for LFTs, I hope that being off arimidex will make them OK. They have always been good until recently
Oh, well can't post a bigger pic.

SpecialK, thanks for the directions site! I should be able to manage making that.
So poor DH, calls once the play (that he didn't really enjoy that much....soooo glad I opted out) is over and asks if I'd like him to pick up ice cream....."well sure, thanks!" It took a bit longer than I expected for him to arrive home.....turns out he was stopped by the local police for turning his signal on too late for making a right turn onto our "back route" road home...another reason I am the usual driver! Hope I haven't jinxed myself. He only got a warning, and sweet guy did also make it to the ice cream stand just in the nick of time.
I once had a pizza stone that I discarded because after only a few uses it seemed to absorb the olive oil from the pizza crust and developed a stale olive oil smell. What did
I do wrong? I would love to have one again, but obviously need to know how to take better care of it.
My quick french bread loaves crisp up wonderfully in my black double loaf pan. It's a pain to store, but great to use. I've had it for many many years.
Am getting the urge to make some bread....maybe on the first cool day after we return from the Cape....
....and yes, all we do is seriously relax there....coffee/tea and read in the AM on the porch overlooking the tip of the Cape, then walk from the apt to the shore and read while assuming a beached whale pose for several hours, then watch other people's kids frolicking in the pool for while before getting ready for dinner out or a play in P-town Center or Truro or Wellfleet....so many good restaurants there....usually walk off dinner in the AM (hope my energy kicks in:)... the weather looks conducive to all of the aforementioned....plus golf for DH at a rough course in Truro with most gorgeous views. We love that there is not a bit of maintenance that needs to be done there by us! That spells relaxation. Also we are originally ocean people, so this is our yearly ocean fix....for the past 32 years.
Here at the lake it is overcast today and getting cooler by the minute....not what was in the forecast, but relief from the heat is okay too.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! -
The fried chicken recipe sounds good Michelle i do add franks hot sauce to mine i like the 'kick' to it.
All the bread and pizza talk is making me hungry. I have made some bread and pizza from scratch but found i would rather buy the pizza dough and the bread freshly baked from a bakery.
So remember how excited i was when i passed my test? Well i got a letter in the mail yesterday from DMV saying my license is NOT valid and i need to return it to the DMV no explaination nothing. Im so upset and can not figure out what could be the reason for it. They are closed today so cant call until Monday to find out. So pissed! Back in 1987 i got a DUI while riding my bicycle i had got in a fight with my then husband and decided to go to a bar down the street thinking i will be ok because im on my bike. When i walked out of the bar i saw the cop and thought "Haha" you cant get me but sure enough he red lighted me he said have you been drinking? I grined and said yep still thinking he cant do anything about it, wrong he handcuffed me and took me to jail lol! I paid my fines got my license reinstated. Years later they said i had fines to pay did not have any record of me paying them. All these years later i have got different DL in many states with no problems even i oregon after that. so. 2 years ago they took over $800,00 out of my husbands taxes he was so mad because we werent even together then and they made him responible he even had to pay an extra hundred and something by check to pay everything off. When i went to the DMV last week i had to pay an extra $75.00 for a re-instatement fee which i asked them why and she couldnt give me a good answer i told her since my Dui back in 1987 i have had a license in Oregon with no problem so now this is happening DH is so made and said if they say we owe them more he will get a lawyer. I haven't even had so much as a parking ticket no accidents nothing since way back then. What the hell could it be? Anyways i needed to vent and if anyone knows what the problem could be i could sure use some kind of idea. Plus i didnt think they could go back that far. Hmmmm!
Kind of funny though when i had to go to court on this i told the judge, Your honor i was not drinking and driving he said, I dont care if you were on a horse we would call it a huai or if you were on a bike we call it a buai of course everyone in the court room laughed i was so imbarrassed. Needless to say i have never rode a bike or horse or car drunk again! LOL!
-
Oh forgot to say Laurie where are you? Havnt heard from you in awhile hope you are ok, maybe camping?
-
Hey Deb, it wasn't very long ago you passed. Perhaps this letter precedes your passing the test? Kinda crossed in the mail? Just thinking.
-
Hey, I just found out we are going out for supper. My DH won a gift certificate at work, so we can go to a more expensive one or go to the one in town and I can get shrimp or crab. I want crab! It so expensive it may use the whole fifty bucks, LOL but hey, you gotta eat! LOL. My taste buds are at pretty much the normal range so I will enjoy it.
-
Hey Moonflower - Enjoy the crab. And GCs are the bestest!! Too hot to cook here. My backporch said 102 a while ago but showers popping up. Might make a pizza. Have the prepackaged MaMa Mia's crust. That's as close to homemade as I get and enough time for the oven on though I must admit for a regular electric oven (8 years old) this one is pretty well insulated.
Do most local pizza places sell dough? Have a Mr. Jim's, Pizza Pro and a local shop. On another note, does anyone still use a bread machine? I have one I used to use often. Motor very ragged last time I used it. I have made kneaded bread but not in years. Really kinda short to do it effectively; can't get the arm strength down on it and that was b4 BC. Bought a really nice bread board last year and it's just collecting dust on the counter with other junk piled on top. I guess I need to haunt some junk, Goodwill shops for one. Need to try the ritzy side of Ft. Worth see who has cleaned out during the summer.
Oh, well, back to paperwork. Never ending.
-
Hey, Debbie, I agree with Moonflwr, it's probably an invalid letter. Don't let it upset your weekend
Enjoy your crab, Moonflwr, it's not often we get it!!
-
Thank-you both Bedo and moonflwr- But They didnt even know i was in Oregon because i had a ky license that was still good untill the 11th of this month. So puzzled though!! For crimeaney sakes wish dmv would get there S..t together!
-
Chrissy (DD) has been kneading the sourdough. She uses a 1 foot tall step stool to get up high enough to lock her elbows and use her abs & upper body weight instead of her arms.
The driver license...here they check for problems even before they issue a license.
Eric -
Just finished a late breakfast so will call it brunch! bacon, hashbrowns cheese omelet with hollandaise sauce. Someone mentioned the hollandaise sauce the other day and been wanting since them. Made from scratch and was delicious!
Bedo- Your GD Nellie/Smelly is cute lol!
-
Eric- They did here too when i passed my written exam i had to pay a 75.00 re-instatement fee thats whats strange about it.
-
Eric.. this is for you.. Carl's friends.
this starter was really interesting.. i just kind of make my own now. it was delish and particularly delicious if you let the bread work for 2 or 3 days. it was pretty delicious, chewy and flavorful just with a local flour. .. and in Kansas there are a lot of those.
it's really interesting to click on the phots and read about the different methods 'customers' have used. pick a loaf, any loaf.
-
INTERESTING on the sour dough. Bedo your smelly belly Nelly is cute.
I did have my crab, and I also had a small filet. Yum. I also got the baked French onion soup. I always have a hard time choosing between the baked onion soup, and the hot Bacon salad. The only bad thing is we had no room for desert! LOL. My DH also had to finish the filet. I only ate a half roll and half baked potato, so except for the melted butter and lemon, it wasn't too bad for me. -
Lacey - I'm looking forward to your recipe 'french bread recipe I got from the Boston Globe years ago.'
Muffin tin cooking - how long do you cook the meatloaves? at 350 degrees? Like the idea of scalloped potatoes in muffin tins. Is that 20 min at 350 degrees also? I always do "stuffin muffins" with sage or cornbread stuffing.
Tazzy - didn't your location used to say Kelowna? My first grandmother-in-law lived on Lake Okanagan in Oroville, Wa. Gorgeous country. And by coincidence, my dad used to take my brothers & my son (no girls allowed) fishing every year & I'm pretty sure it was Kelowna. I'll have to email my son & see if he remembers.
I can't keep up while working every day, so hi to everyone else. And I second - where's Laurie? Maybe back at her friend's lake house.
-
Thanks. I've bookmarked the page. I haven't decided if I'll send of for starter or not. I've never given it much thought, but I'm guessing that my kitchen is "loaded with 'things' from my starter"..and the two starters would eventually merge...then again, that may be exactly why I do that.
I do like the pictures and am wandering through the recipe pages...getting ideas...
This brings to mind a Mickey story and one that has me laughing out loud...even og it is being told in a "what's for dinner" post. (Mickey was my nickname for Denice..not sure how I came up with the nickname..but she loved it...)
Anyway, she was a biology major and was on her way to med school with a goal to become a pediatrician. I was always very proud of my clean kitchen. The rest of the house was typical college guy clean (in other words nothing obvious that was particularily deadly)...but the kitchen was absolutely spotless. I'm still that way today.
So, Mickey walks in with a little kit of swabs for collecting samples of bacteria from surfaces. Because of previous results, the school forbade the students from using the dorm kitchens for this lab experiment. She knew that I kept my kitchen clean and was curious how clean it really was.
Well, when the results came back...she laughed and I was a bit "distressed". It seems from a bacteria point of view, my kitchen sink was worse than my toilet's seat.
Apparently this was typical and was why the teacher would tell each semester's class that if space aliens came here and examined our houses, they would conclude the toilet was the dishwasher.
As an aside, I did get the kitchen cleaned up a lot "more better" by switching from using a dish rag to paper towels. Now the sink was at least slightly better than the toilet seat.
Next time a Sharon story..I just found out we're leaving for the water park to cool down a bit...it's like 108F and it's 7:15 right now.And finally...the two loaves of sourdough that I did today. I got one slice, Sharon got one slice..the dogs didn't get any...and when we got back from the store there was only one loaf...and a very full daughter.

Minus, I'll write myself a note to post that recipe for the french bread after I get home from the Cape, in a week. I think you'll enjoy it.
Finally, I got some fleurs planted in my deck boxes and pots, and the color is really uplifting!
Went to a local popular restaurant with DH and DS2, where DS2 noticed a new lobster sign while driving to our house (apparently lobsters are in great supply this year). They both scarfed down twin lobsters and I had sea scallops (prepared without all of their usual drenching butter and bread crumbs) which were wonderful. The veggie of the day was butternut squash, my favorite...so I was in heaven. It was the first time I have seen anyone eat boiled lobster with butternut squash....there were no complaints! -
Debbie,
If I had to guess I'm going to say it's the KY licence that they want. Typically, in NY anyway, when they issue you a NY license they collect your out of state license (or snip off part of it) since it is illegal (I think) to have valid licences from two different states simultaneously. Could that be it? -
Seaside- Thinks for trying to help i wish that was what it is but unfortunately its not I gave it to them when I was there they put a hole in it and give it back to you. ;-((( So the saga continues until tomorrow when I can call and find out. How have you been I havnt seen you here in awhile? Staying cool I hope!
Last night i made some red pepper soup that turned out pretty good but kind of cheated what I did was bought Safeways signature tomotoe bisque soup (freshly homemade) and then bought some roasted red peppers and pureed them up with some cream and added some oregono and old bay seasoning mixed with the tomoatoe soup almost as good as the one I had the at deli last week. Then made a roasted cheese sandwich with peppers and red onions on a hogie roll. Since DH is golfing the rest was breakfast this morning.
-
In Arizona, they take the old license before issuing a new one. If you ask (I guess if you like the picture???) they'll punch a hole through the license number and give it back.
It's not dinner..but..another sourdough theme... Whole wheat buttermilk sourdough pancakes.... Chrissy loves them....especially with some "sent from upstate New York" Maple Syrup. I made a batch this morning for everyone.
The Sharon story.
Our old Jeep... It's a 1950 Willys CJ3A. It has seat belts, but they are the manually adjusted kind....buckle up, cinch them up and then drive...nothing automatic about it.... Sharon loves to drive the Jeep when the weather is nice....imagine a convertable with no doors. Anyway, like I said she loves driving the Jeep..except she was getting annoyed "with the seat belts". I'd drive the Jeep, then we would switch off and she'd drive it awhile...Her annoyance was coming from her noticing that after I had been driving, she would have to LOOSEN the seat belts before she could buckle them. It was the better part of a year before she caught me sneakily cinching up the belts as I was unbuckling them.
The other story, one that she likes a bit better. This Jeep has a button on the floor that operates the starter. To start the engine, you turn the ignition key to run and then push the starter button. If you don't turn the key to "run", the engine cranks over, but it won't run. She has the Jeep at work and is wanting to go get something to eat at lunch....crank, crank, crank, crank.... *$&*$)# old Jeeps. Get out, raise the hood, look at engine, realize the key wasn't "on"....wiggle some stuff around under the hood, lower the hood, get back in, turn the key...crank...run..... A big smile to her co-workers looking out the office window at her and off she goes to lunch. She never did tell them....
She thinks its funny now, but at the time, I don't think she would have had to work to hard to be annoyed at me.....
-
Lacey- I can eat lobster with just about anything ha! Dh had been running a special at the casino for crabs but it is higher than lobster right now so replaced that special with the lobster since its cheaper right now. Not a bad swap!
-
Eric- Cute and funny story! I have plenty of those embarrassing moments that i wished not to let others know the "goof" I made lol!
-
Hi everyone! As usual everyone sounds like they have been busy! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and camping trips, trips to lakes etc. The weather has been hot but nice.
I have just been busy keeping up with the house and the kids. I went to the Dr this week for a sinus infection that has been dragging me down. Who gets a sinus infection in the middle of summer? I requested a referral to an ear nose and throat person as this is my 5th sinus infection since last October which seems a bit ridiculous.
So tomorrow I do waitressing again and on Tuesday, the back to back days should be interesting and exhausting. Hopefully it doesn't prove to be too much for me. But the money is much needed so I have high hopes.
Dinners have been simple lately. Grilled chicken wraps, patty melts etc. Last night we had my brother and girlfriend over with another couple and we sat pool side and played games and had Chinese food because no one felt like cooking. It was a lot of fun and we laughed and laughed....the margaritas helped I think;) The boys had a sleep over at my in laws. They went over for 5 and we picked them up before 9 this morning, but at least it was a little break.
Boys just got up from a much needed nap, they were super cranky! So we will go for a swim and hang outside for the afternoon. Now to once again figure out whats for dinner?
-
Hi everyone. Busy here too....Eric I like your stories.
Today we spread the ashes of our dear friend that lost his life to cancer, out on the lake. We had four boats, and 6 jet skis filled with family and friends. Did a memorial reading, music, lighting of candles and the release of balloons, very sad day. He was the one who would always diagnose and fix everyones jetski we called him "the jetski gynecologist" My brother-in-law engraved a piston from a jetski and dropped it to the bottom of the lake.
My girlfriend made an observation that i agreed on is that we have not a had a decent meal in weeks....just munching on apps and finger food, really need to sit down and have a planned dinner.
Has anyone tried the "limearitas" made by bud light in the small can? MMMM poor over ice, so refreshing on a hot day
-
Carrie - My DH loves the Lime-A-Ritas. I'm having a lemonade margarita out of the jug. Pretty good but it has been oh so long since I had anything alcoholic. Going to my head. DH made BBQ chicken on the grill and I warmed up some frozen vegies. He had enough briquets to cook 3 chickens and we only had 3 thighs/3 legs. LOL. Wish I could spring for a gas grill. Don't know if I have the courage to fire it up though. Edited to add that I am so sorry about your friend's passing.
-
Aww Crap Debbie!
I was hoping that was a fairly easy explanation.... Give a call tomorrow and hopefully it is just a big old mistake.... I have had things happen before (why is it always on a Friday?) and I get myself all worked up over the weekend so by the time I call on Monday I am 'loaded for bear' only to find out it was nothing.... OK.. What am I supposed to do with all this pent up adrenaline now? LOL. I hope this too is nothing!
I have been around and reading daily but not posting as much! There is so much being shared here that I can't seem to keep up...lol But, I do read and think about you all every day.
Eric,
Love your stories! Especially the seatbelt cinching one! hehehehe!
(((((( Carberry )))))
What a sad occasion but, what a beautiful memorial for your friend!! -
Hi everyone - back from a great weekend camping with good friends and good weather (finally). All the aches I have now are worth it. I love how food always tastes so much better when camping.
MinusTwo - yes my location used to say Kelowna. Westbank (where I live) is about 20 minutes outside Kelowna so I just felt at the time I should correct it. It sure is beautiful. So many fishing lakes around - see if you can find out.
Deb - hope you sort out the driving licence fiasco. Don't you find that anything to do with Government is normally the right hand not knowing what the left is doing?
Good luck tomorrow and Tuesday Laurie with the waitressing. Sending you vibes for
large tips.To others I have missed hello - love all the bread recipes too. Oh! and I agree on the lobster - good with anything. DH & I were visiting South Africa and visited a place called Mossel Bay. At a night time bbq (or Braai as they call them) on the beach one of the 'servers' asked everyone there if would like lobster - for those who said yes, all the 'servers' walked towards the water's edge and plucked the lobsters out of the sea and cooked them there and then. There was no limit on the amount we could have as the beach was awash with them. Quite an amazing sight.
Tonight's dinner is a mish mash of left over camping food (unfortunately no lobster) consisting of cheeses, deli meats, crackers, veggies and dip - DH at golf.
