    Michelle, love your new avatar.

All the doggie thunderstorm talk reminds me of sweet little Lacey, our recently departed pooch who was terrified of those storms. Her vibrating body next to my leg would alert me to a storm on its way. I ended up ordering her a little red and metallic "thunder cape" which she wore regularly during storms. Probably placebo effect, but she was remembered for that special attire by most of DS2's buddies when they wrote sweet condolences to us in March. I had totally forgotten about the cape in the last year since she clearly lost her hearing so was non-reactive to storms....a rare benefit of her old age.

Apple, can't help but be curious if you had any Grand Vin de Leoville (Medoc) among those special wines. We used to drink that in the early 70's before it soared in price.... Too expensive for me now!

I agree that you should put these textured memoirs down for all to enjoy. Loved your family photo and was touched by your Jesus story.

Laurie, hooray for the end of today! Sleep tight!! :)

went out to dinner tonite for a steak and fries.  that is what i had.  my daughter had a grilled cheese, and my husband had fish and chips....... man it was delish.. my steak was huge and i ate about 1/2 .. my husband and daughter had the rest.  at a bar which had steak nite on Thursdays.  I had already fixed a corned beef, but we'll have it tomorrow.... corned beef hash.

I certainly do not remember the names of the wines i had.. if it had a name, we drank it.

Last night before we went to our play, we went to the local diner and I had, of all things, liver and onions!  For some reason it sounded good, and it was about as good as it could be for $7.50 diner food.  I haven't eaten this in years and I probably won't ever again.  The play was great..Nunsence was the name.  Go see it if it comes to a theater near you.

Michelle...glad you got you steak done with the threatening rain!

Laurie:  What a day you had...you deserved a couple of glasses of wine to relax!  I remember those days.

Carrie:  I would recommend tums over prilosec any day.  Prilosec is really not all that good for you, and your food doesn't digest properly.  Try adding some probiotics to your daily supplement intake to correct your tummy problems...it worked like a miracle for me.

Cute stories about the dogs...we don't have a pet right now...maybe some day soon.

Tazzy:  Nice to have you on here...enjoy reading your posts!

Kaara... LIVER & ONIONS ????????  Shuddering at the thought.   My DH likes Liver & Onions and as you have likely guessed from my response I do not.   Never have, never will (the onions are OK, just the liver)  [[[[more shuddering]]]]]   Anyway the only time he eats it is if we go out and its on the menu... i refuse to even have it in the house.   thanks for the welcome though Laughing

I haven't had liver and onions since 1974!  When I was growing up my mother would fix it occasionally and I hated it.  I didn't realize it at the time but that was because she really over cooked it, and under cooked the onions.  Shortly before she moved from Eastern Washington to live closer to me she had to have surgery (gallbladder) and I went to take care of her.  The one thing she really wanted me to fix for her was liver and onions.  I'ld never cooked it so checked her tiny library of cookbooks and found a coupe of recipes.  I caramelized the onions and made sure I didn't overcook the liver and it was actually pretty good.  She loved it.  I've never made it again as DH dosen't like liver.

Liver and onions is probably number 1 on my worst food list.

Had a girlfriend over for dinner last night she loves taco's and it is also my favorite. so i prepped early, like shredding cheese, dicing onions, tomatoes, lettuce, avacodo's all i had to do was cook the tortillas; when she got here. After cooking the tortillas we went to fill them and my DH said, where the hamburger honey? OOPPs i forgot the meat i couldnt believe it. he is a meat guy so i had to defrost the meat and cook it and reheat the taco shells. so much for trying to get ahead!

Tonight we are going to the seahag with friends for dinner and listen to our friend Micheal sing then over to the mist to hear Brett sing so should be a fun filled night. I will try not to post after a night on the town we all know how that turns out for me lol!

I have never tried liver and onions, I don't think I ever will!

Debbie- Too funny about forgetting the meat!  I say DO  post tonight when you get back, I like your late night posts :)  Have fun.

Today was the funeral for my friend.  Talk about gut wrenching and sad.  The amount of people there was mind blowing, I saw so many people I have not seen in years.  I don't get out much anymore because of the boys and it was good to so so many people.  Afterward a large group was going to go out and have a few drinks and I declined.  I felt like planting some flowers so I went to my favorite garden/green house place that is close by.  2 out of three of their greenhouses were empty.  I don't know if their business is failing or what but I left with nothing and very disappointed.  My next favorite place to go is about 20 minutes away and I didn't feel like it anymore.  Came home had lunch and flopped on the couch with a book.  You would think with how tired I am I would nap, but no such luck.  Maybe tomorrow I will make the trek with the boys and get our annuals.

Tonight I am thinking steak on the grill and salad will be for dinner with corn on the cob.  DS#1 can have left over shells.  It is the first time in a week it is not raining.

Sorry I grossed everyone out with my liver and onions story!  It definitely wasn't on my diet and I won't be eating it again anytime soon so rest easy! My other choice would have been chicken fried steak, but then I would have had to have the mashed potatoes and gravy...definitely not on my diet...and my BF would have lectured me to no end:(  I'll save that for a trip back to Texas where they make the best ever!

You have a lot on your plate these days Laurie and like the weather has done for you today.. things brighten upCoolSteak, veggies and corn of the cob always sounds like a good dinner to me.

DH is golfing this evening - first day this week its not raining here either - as I am not a cook for one person I think I will do a simple Greek Salad and pita bread.

Debbie that is hilarious with 'no meat' tacos.... chemo brain ???

Debbie - I got a chuckle out of your no meat taco story, too!  Best laid plans...

Laurie - glad you are able to relax a little today after the stress of yesterday and your friend's funeral.  I was able to sit out on the dock and read for a while, until it started to thunder a bit.  It's raining somewhere near us.  We got a few sprinkles but that's about it.  I almost finished the first Fifty Shades of Grey...feel like I should be wrapping the cover in a brown paper bag...LOL!

I used to cook liver and onions once a year for my ex-husband.  I know what the liver does...so I'm definitely not eating it!

I went shopping today and sprung for some real breast prostheses.  I've been making do with the "chicken cutlets" but I decided that I'd like a little more shape, and my recon surgery is off the table.  These new foobs are not too bad, but wow are they pricey.  I'll have to send in the bill to my insurance company - they'll cover most of it.  Anyways, it's nice to see my chest stick out further than my tummy!  It was all very impulsive of me.

We're going out to dinner tonight with my son and his SO.  Hopefully the weather continues to be nice and we can sit out on the patio.

Michelle- Have a great dinner, it is now raining here again too.  At least the weekend looks promising.  And yay for you getting new boobs. today!  I hope they are comfy and you like them.  Sometimes the impulse buy is the best one.  I know what you mean about your belly sticking out farther than your boobs, although I have met you and you are tiny!!  That was one of my fears before my BMX, I had big boobs and it gave me camouflage for my belly.  I did sit ups for the 7 weeks prior to surgery!

Tazzy - your dinner sounds wonderful, love a greek salad,  I like to warm my pita bread in the oven.  enjoy your quiet night.

Kaara- I wasn't grossed out by your post, think back a few pages ago....people eating organs and brains....that was tame!!!  LOL!  It is all good here ;)

Michelle- I have the cushiny foobies because i havnt found a good breast prosthesis that is not big and bulky or heavy. Maybe thats my problem these are not real maybe with a good investment i would be happier with mind. I wonder if after 2 years would ins still cover them? Glad you got out and shopped. im so sorry you are not able to have your recon surgery, (((hugs))))

A few pages back talking about eating brains and organs... ???? My mind has gone into overdrive now.

I am joing to enjoy a nice quiet evening.. maybe even read for a bit - first time all this week.  I may even have a beer to go with it.

I meet up with my surgeon on Wednesday about my surgery..been able to put off thinking about it this past 6 months whilst I've been on chemo.   I will find out if I am a candidate for immediate recon or not.... I have no idea about all this stuff and  buying new foobies etc.

Chinese tonight, stopped at the Mango Grill in Ayer and picked up Port Fried Rice, 2 orders of Egg Roll and Beef Teriaki.  They have good food there.

My left tata's skin aroung the nipple and below feels rubbery, I am getting anoying twingy type pain and it still is a little swollen under the nipple and to the armpit.  I heard that once you get cellulitis there is a good chance it will reoccure.  I HOPE THE HELL NOT!!!

More news on Rebekah & Nick. They are flying in Sunday, he will be admitted in the Lahey Clinic Sunday night, his procedure will be Monday morning and will be out that afternoon. They are staying at the Boston Marriot in Burlington until Thursday to make sure everything is OK.

Debbie - your insurance should cover prostheses.  I think mine gets me new ones every two years.  You should have no problem at all.  My new ones are silicone but they weigh about 1/2 pound each.  Remember, real ones have weight, too Wink  The brand I bought is Amoena Natura Light.  I was surprised at how much better I liked these.  I had tried some micro-bead foobs and didn't like those, either.  I would have bought another set of chicken cutlets if they had a bigger size.  But the biggest is about the equivalent of a small B (which is what I already had), so I had to get the real deal to go up a size.  I put them on in the store and didn't want to take them off, so I guess it was a good purchase!

luv - weirdly, my insurance did not cover the actual forms (prosthetics) but would cover a mastectomy bra.  I had immediate placement of TEs - so I was recon from the start, but you can see my list of surgeries and the removal of the left TE.  It was out 7 months during chemo so I needed to put something there for balance.  My insurance denied coverage for the prosthetic saying I was a recon patient - crazy, right?  They won't pay for a prosthetic as a stop-gap once you have been designated recon, unless you have the recon permanently removed.  I tried the cutlets but one popped out on the kitchen floor so I was a little nervous about going out in public with them, lol!  I also used the fluff and cotton forms that came with my BMX camisole - I liked those because they are weightless ad I could pin them in so they couldn't escape.  I finally went to the gift closet in the ACS Hope Lodge and they gave me a brand new prosthetic (the $200 kind!) for free!  I about cried with gratitude!

SpecialK, well, I guess I could see their point about the form from an "auto-response" perspective.  But I suspect a call to the nurse navigator explaining the removal of the TE would have gotten a better answer.  In any case, I'm glad the ACS took good care of you.  I could/should have bought these last November when both my TEs were removed.  But I thought I was dealing with a temporary situation and couldn't see spending the money on true forms if I was having recon in a few months.  But yesterday, I decided to just get over it, and get some real forms.  I was worried about the comfort/weight but I wore these all day and I was fine.  I'm sure my dresses will look better, too.

Deb - I am sure you're looking forward to seeing Rebekah and Nick, even if it's just for a couple days.  Hopefully, everything will go well with his surgery.

Nay on the liver and onions....I remember once when I was little my mom made us have liver for dinner and I tried to give mine to the dog under the table and he wouldnt even eat it.  My mom found it when cleaning up and I got in a lot of trouble...I think she made me eat another sm piece.

My son treated me to lunch at the local diner yesterday, kind of an old fashioned place that you can drive up in your car and be served or sit at the counter outdoors, they have the best homemade rootbeer, had a fish sandwich to go with it.

Laurie, So glad you at least got some moments to relax a little and read. That must have been an emotional day. Funny story on your sons response..they will probably grow up to appreciate good cooking.

Michelle  Congrats on the new foobs.  I read Shades of Gray  but on my kindle, ha ha so no one knew what I was reading.  I need to download the 2nd one, but have been too busy to read.

Raining here today UGHHH  gotta find something fun to do with son and girlfriend since boating is out.  I know they really had their hearts set on jetskiing today.

debbie:  LOL on the DH golfing stories....my BF does the same...rain, hail, sleet or snow...the golf game goes on!  I only play paradise golf...every condition must be perfect or I'm outta there!

Michelle:  good for you on the new foobs.  I would do the same...screw the cost...it's about looking and feeling your best!  I read the first Fifty Shades book and am about half way into the second.  Frankly I don't see what all the fuss is about.  I don't think the writing is all that good...to me it's just a smut novel.  Two words I will forever eliminate from my vocabulary I'm so tired of seeing them in print...."oh my"....and "come".  Ladies, if you've read the book you know what I mean;)

I made asian lettuce wraps for dinner last night and we watched a Netflix movie "One Day" about a young couple who spent years trying to maintain a friendship rather than falling in love and making a life together.  It was a riveting movie and sends a good message about going after what you want in life.  Be prepared to cry.

I think I'll go into Asheville today and shop at the big mall.  Our shopping mall here in Hendersonville is so pitiful that I can actually get depressed when I go in there:(  I need a day off from planting flowers and herbs!  My results look good though.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Oops:  Hit submit before I got to the last page...good luck Tazzy on your app't, and deb..I pray that your problem does not recurr.

Laurie...two year old's are so honest...my little DGD uses that phrase too when she doesn't like something...."noooo good!"  She kept saying this about her water in her sippy cup one day until I finally tasted it and UGH! there was something in the tip that had soured and it tasted just awful...poor little thing would not drink from that cup again!  It had to be thrown out.

Carberry, funny memory about the dog refusing liver.

I never tasted liver since we never had to try palate challenging food growing up. My father was a very fussy eater and severely allergic to fish ( we could only cook Mrs, Paul's fishsticks if he went on a long business trip) and my mother only cooked what he liked, so we rarely had to try anything out of their mainstream of beef, pork or chicken, potatoes, peas, green beans and pasta. I used to love going out to dinner and ordering fish. I had a wonderful world of food to discover once living on my own, so we have a very different kitchen than my mom's. I also discovered during her visits here that my mother had her own fussy palate, but never realized that since in your mother's house she cook's what she eats! DH will eat anything.....I bet he'd even try liver, but I can't quite force myself to make it....even when my OB suggested it 35 years ago after I experienced major blood loss during the complicated delivery of DS1. The doc would not transfuse me since HIV tainted blood was showing up in bloodbanks then and he wouldn't take the risk.....said I could rest, eat liver and other red meat and replenish my blood cells on my own. I eventually did, but what a terrible way to start mothering a non-sleeping firstborn. I was like a weak zombie. A friend of mine had a similar need and her doc did transfuse her. She kept telling me she felt like a million dollars....I so envied her....and she did not get tainted blood. A crap shoot then, I guess.....but liver never entered the picture.

Laurie, I love that your two year old already has a discerning palate! I'm sure that DS1 will be the same once his throat can manage more textures and eat your good food again. Hope your weekend includes some relax time for you.....what a week!

I plan to do very little this weekend. After travelling to my college reunion in the midwest last weekend, (two days of travelling for two days of reunioning since there is no direct way to get to South Bend from here) and working ten hour days all this week, I am totally done in. One day this week when I tried to do an errand after work, I fell asleep at a red light. That was scary! So I will do no more travelling with this fatigue issue.....and probably need to stop the crazy work schedule. But this weekend......., rest, watch Celtics/Heat, catch up on MadMen, and no cooking tonight, since DH will be off DJ'ing a party for a friend of a friend. Maybe I should be eating liver for my mitochondria!!! ;)

Sorry for such a long post......

I pulled out some pork to thaw.  At least that's what it says on the bag.....lots of frost :-)  In the mean time, I've got to take my 94 year old mom to an eye exam and work on the kitchen cabinet under the sink and declutter...and get some sourdough going.

I saw my best buddy yesterday.  It's been so long that I was almost nervous....

Lacey it sounds like you need a nice relaxing day!  I hope you get it:)  Technology is an amazing thing, Imagine how far we have come that they wouldn't give you a transfusion back then?

Eric-Hope you had fun with your friend.  I have a couple of friends that I might go a couple of years without seeing and we pick up like it was yesterday.  I love to throw pork in the crock pot with a can of diced tomatoes and some salt and pepper and make pulled pork out of it.  I just remove and shred it when done and add BBQ sauce.  I bet it would be great on that sourdough you are going to start...mmmmm.

We just got back from the greenhouse and got lots of good stuff.  I wish I had an unlimited budget!!  I let the boys pick a lot of what we got so it isn't going to be "balanced" but ohwell, they are happy and I am sure it will still look good.  I am hoping the boys will nap and then we can do some planting and go for a swim.  Fingers crossed!!

Both the dog I grew up with and the dog I have now absolutely love liver.  The dog I grew up with was quiet when he ate it.  The little yellow labrador retereiver I have now is very noisy when she eats liver.

I'm very glad I grew up with the silent liver eater. :-)

    Off to the eye exam...
