So...whats for dinner?

Apple - I have 2 actual teen boys and one that just eats like one. He can down a triple cheeseburger, large fries and drink and I struggle to finish a happy meal! But I am fat, I admit it, but it's not because of what I eat, it's because of no exercise and my danged dead thyroid. But yeah, teenage boys are not good on the pocketbook!
For dinner, I am making a roast in my friend, the Crockpot! I put Lowry's Teryaki sauce all over it, then some Garlic Salt, then for some reason, I decided to pour a can of crushed Pineapple over that. I sure hope it turns out ok!
Have a good one everyone!

Kaara, I am so sorry about your sister Apple, thank you for telling us about your love for your brother. It's funny how sometimes someone in our family will touch ius.
I have a sibling story, being a twin ( she is 6 minutes older) No one has ever been able to get to me like that woman. Not ex-husbands, friends, parents, nobody. When we are getting along we are super close, when we are not, we don't speak. I still remember remnants of our "language" when we were young, and she still calls me by a name that she did when we were about 1-2 years old Here is an example:
When our kids were about 2-3 (born within months, of course) We weren't getting along. She knew that I always hated French and was really bad at it, even though I took it from 4th -12th grade. If you speak to me in French, I will have no idea what you are saying, so for Christmas, she was working in France and sent my toddler a game that had to be put together with instructions, you guessed it in French Can you imagine a 3 hour tantrum as I tried unsuccessfully to put it together? Soooo... I decided to get her back
She is somewhat OCD and hates dirt and insects, so, the perfect gift!!! I sent her son Uncle Earnie's Ant Farm! He was so excited! And the best part was that it came with a card that said the ants would be arriving separately in 4-6 weeks! Let her think about that for awhile. Hehe
We get along now, for the time being ....:) We also have an older brother. Our parents died when we were 6 and 26, so I think that my friends are going through things with their parents that we went through when we were younger. I think that it may be easier when you are young because you are too dumb and naive and have the outlook of youth that you may not have when you are older, so I sympathize with my friends and am sad for their sadness
-
Oh Bedo - thanks for the laugh about exchanging gifts with your twin. Needed that tonight. And some chocolate. Guess I'll have to settle for a couple pieces of Dove candy since I just got home from water aerobics and it's too late to eat much else. How about popcorn & chocolate with a glass of red wine?
-
Bedo, your twin sister story is priceless!
-
I agree Bedo- Love the story!! For the ants to come later- oh my!! The kid must have driven her nuts?!
Chirrazo- I ate it at a friends house and loved it I have never looked for it in a store but now think I should. Thanks for sharing the recipe Tazzy.
As far as teenage boys and their appetite, I am already nervous at how much it will cost to feed my boys and their friends when the time comes. At 2 and 4 years I already go through 2 loaves of bread a week. What will it be 5 by then?
Deb- I hope everything goes ok.
Seaside- I remember being in Jr high and we used to pride ourselves on how much we could eat and how skinny we were. Too bad those days are loooong gone : /
Thanks for the dinner ideas. I actually suggested the chicken/gravy/potato dinner the other night and was met with a wrinkled nose in return. We decided on breakfast for dinner. DS#1 ate his first fried egg ever! I made the kids pancakes by request and fried a couple of eggs and made an english muffin for me. DS#2 stole my food and the first says he wanted some too....he has always hated eggs. He loved them! Not to mention for the last week he has been so polite and helpful, I am thinking when they took out his tonsils they removed his negative attitude too. I only have to ask once for him to do anything lately. DH and I just stare in awe as he does stuff we ask, lol!
On a total side note- Apple-from the way you look in your picture I bet you have the best laugh. You appear petite and very feminine, but I bet it rolls out of you. Random I know, but had to throw it out there
-
that story is priceless Bedo... Oh! to have been a fly on the wall and seen her face.
Deb - good luck for tomorrow. sending hugs and positive vibes your way.
Amy, please do let us know how the crockpot dinner turned out... sure sounded good.
Laurie.. you mention about being in high school and eating whatever you wanted with no worries of putting weight on. I can totally relate to that...but have, what I think is quite a funny tale I'd like to share.
When I was in my 20's.. 5 foot five, size 0 and likely 100lb when wet. 2 years ago I decided I needed to get fit and lose weight (was now approx 175lb). There I was with the personal trainer and he measured me... when he measured my thigh and told me the size.... I looked at him and said "Geesh! 30 odd years ago that was the size of my waist".
-
Bedo- What a funny story on your twin as always you make me laugh. Sorry you lost your parents so young.
Laurie- I was amazed that your sons never had a fried egg, but glad they enjoyed them. I like fried, DH does not so i have to do 2 different pans.
SpecialK i do my pork tenderloins the same way only i use white wine instead of the vinegar. or use brandy either way its very good.
Minustwo- Thats what i had was popcorn, chocolate chips. minus the wine but that sounds good.
-
Debbie son #1 is fussy-no eggs till today. Son #2 will eat three at a time! (and he is only 2 yrs old)
Tazzy- I think we are kindred spirits! At the age of 21 I weighed about 100 pounds soaking wet and wore a size zero. I met my husband and well....I got a little hefty. I am 5'6'' and maxed out at a size 14 and weighed about 180. I am now a size 10,or 8 if I am lucky, and weigh 150. I still have hopes to see a size 6 again and hit 130. I wouldn't want to be what I was. But also, back then I was a vegetarian and smoked pot. Now I eat meat and like wine :P (hope I didn't offend anyone!)
DS just woke up freaking out and took an hour to calm down and take meds. It is 1 and I am wide awake...
-
Laurie- I thought it was late for you to be up. im usually the only one on here late at night talking to myself lol! Hope your DS is ok. What a funny story on the pot and vegetarian. Hehe! I dont think you offened anyone. Im a laugher so when i tryed pot a long time ago it just made me laugh all the more and got really paranoid on it. LOL! Now wine, margarittas, beer and champagine is my choice of drug
-
ps Carol- love a good dirty martini! As I am sure you know a martini made with olives and olive juice is called a dirty martini. I would order mine extra dirty, On cue Dh would tell the bartender I was a "dirty girl". LOL! It has been years since I ordered one of those. I will have to fix that!
Ok- I am tired and a little punchy sorry!
-
Couldn't agree more Laurie... and if, when I was 20, somehow managed to put on a pound or 2...then I just wouldn't eat for a couple of days... smokes and alcohol only. Now I love my food too much - and wine !!
Hope your DS is finally settled and you can settle too.
-
Debbie I am with you! I am too old for that crap anymore! Give me a nice beverage and I am happy. I told DH he made me fat. For the first 2 years we dated all he ever said was lets go get an ap and a cocktail. I didn't drink or eat meat, so I drank a lot of white russians and mudslides and ate mozzarella sticks and potato skins. Hello- is that the third roll of fat filling in?? Ha!
Luckily he actually liked me for me and never cared that I gained weight, but it's still all his fault. It's my story and I am sticking ot it! All...his .....fault
-
Debbie,Laurie (and anyone else want to join)... see you at the bar for a dirty Martini
-
Thanks Tazzy- he is settled in our bed and sleeping with DH. I am UP as I was the one who had to convince him to take the meds and sing to him until they took effect. I am going to go back to my book and pray we get a nap time tomorrow. Might as well enjoy the quiet.
-
meet you there Tazzy!!
-
You mention meds... not being nosy (well guess I am) hope your DS is OK !
-
no not nosey! He had his tonsils and adenoids removed last Thursday. He's taking Tylenol and Motrin. The next day or so will be the worst of it and it will be down hill from there. Until next Thursday we are on house arrest with no activity.
-
I so enjoy all the stories about the children even though I can't add any of my own since DH and I never were able to have any. Teenagers now........ We bought our first house from parents nearing retirement age who decided to sell the big old family home and move to a smaller apartment. They left behind furniture, pots and pans, china and glassware and even food as well as an 18 year old boy. I quickly discovered that he ate half again as much as the two of us did!
I should mention that the house was the one DH grew up in and the teen was his younger brother.
He was only with us vacations and holidays as he started college that fall. We had him with us through his five years of pharmacy school and then for six months as he completed his internship. He was a good kid and has had a successful career.
-
left you an 18b year old boy??
you are so lucky. really!
-
apple, I know. He is 13 yrs younger than DH, 9 yrs younger than I so he really has been much like a son to us. Especially because FIL never really accepted either of his sons until they were adults and travelled a lot as they grew up. One of my most touching and humbling events was when I accidentally overheard BIL telling his best friend that he would never marry until he found a woman just like me.
-
wow a lot of action for this time of night!
Tazzy and laurie yep, count me in im there for that dirty martini lol!
Chabba- At first i thought it was just some kid that the people who you bought the house from just left there kid haha!
Laurie, I have gone through the yoyo weight gain/loss so many times too. I also blame it on my Dh because everytime i want to diet he gets all kinds of goodies at the store. ARggh! I did a diet last year that we both lost a lot of weight on it really works but somehow we got back to eating all junk food again i think right around the holidays started doing it. It is called a protein fast diet i actually felt really healthy during it. I have got to start it again. Should i sing you a lala bye so you can sleep? LOL!
-
Chabba- Awe, how sweet for your DH to say that. from our phone conversation i can tell you are very special.
-
Chabba- Great story! Thanks for sharing.
I am more than tired this morning. DS #1 woke up twice more in pain last night. One of the times he woke up DS#2. I think I might have gotten 2 hours of sleep? Now I need to try to find some energy to deal with the day and still accomplish something. I was supposed to meet a friend for lunch who wanted to see the boys. I think I am going to cancel in light of everyone being over tired and who knows how DS#1 will feel by the time 12 rolls around...
-
Laurie - so sorry you all had such a tough night. Oh how I remember those times - with four kids, I had many of those! I hope your DS is on the mend today and you all get to take a little nap this afternoon.
Chabba - very sweet story!
Joining you gals for a drink...dirty martini is not my thing but I'll take a bowl of really good cured olives!
-
Goodness. I slept through a martini party last night! DH makes his very dirty. I take mine "clean" but with Michelle's bowl of olives.
Try to enjoy the day, Laurie. Forget about accomplishing anything.
-
Wow you guys sure were busy last night!
Laurie you may have to nap with the kids today.
I would have been joining you guys in a drink last night...really as it was hump night.....but I passed and stayed home, my tummy is so upset in the evening lately, gotta figure this out, not sure if its meds or something the chemo did to my insides...eating tums like they are candy...wish they came in chocolate flavor.
Funny on the weight stories. I remember my grandma yelling at my mom telling her to feed me as i was too skinny...oh if she could only see me now! When I got pregnant with my first kid, I weight 118# and I am 5'10''. Food was never a priority with me...boy has that changed.
Chabba great story...glad you clarified where that teenage boy came from.
-
Chabba..."One of my most touching and humbling events was when I accidentally overheard BIL telling his best friend that he would never marry until he found a woman just like me." that is the sweetest thing ever. Don't you wish you had a recording. Every time my sons leave me (or the house) they say 'I love you mama.." every time. I guess i am used to it because i recently started noticing it. My daughter says the same thing.. I wonder where they got that habit..? my husband doesn't say it.
-
Here you go, Carrie! You can order these from Amazon!!! All kidding aside, I hope your tummy problems go away. Have you tried taking Prilosec or Pepcid? I took them all through chemo and for two months afterwards.
-
so... how are you doing? luvRVing?
I am a former gymnast and diver and then started cycling in my twenties. I was sooooooooooo skinny... like 105 pounds. People were always giving me trouble... then i had kids and settled into a comfortable weight of 140ish.
i felt comfortable at both weights.. now I'm kind of in the middle.. I have really never cared, or dieted. I like plump women generally.. i think they are supposed to be kind of comforting and squishy. nothing worse than a skinny hollywood diva type.
-
LOL, Apple - "skinny hollywood diva type"!!! And thanks for asking about me, I am recovering from my cold and enjoying the next few days of good appetite and no side effects before I begin Xeloda, probably next Thursday. I see the MO on Wednesday and the first delivery of drugs is coming on Tuesday.
Hey, Le Louvre is loaded with us "renaissance-type" gals! I'm 5'2" and just weighed myself - 128. I started breast cancer at about 140, two years ago. I was 122 when I finished rads in January and purposely gained a few pounds to give the breast surgeon some fat for the DIEP surgery that I will now not be having
At least I didn't gain any weight in Paris, even though I ate whatever I wanted. I think I walked it all off! I'm guessing Xeloda may help me get back down to 120 or so, I hear it's a lovely appetite suppressant! As long as it nukes those mets...
I kinda like being a squishy grandma!!!
