So...whats for dinner?

Laurie - the recital was just adorable. I haven't taken the picture off my camera...they didn't allow video taping and we were pretty far back in the auditorium. Then we went back to my daughter's house for steak and salad. I'm spending the night because I'm going with my grandson on a field trip to tour Fenway Park, so I need to go to sleep here in a couple minutes. It was a lovely day and she looked adorable. There is one picture of her on my Facebook page that I shared from earlier today. It was after she had changed out of her costume.
Nighty-night, all!

I got the cabinet bottoms done and did minimal effort port roast, salad and rolls meal...something quick so I could get back to turning myself into a pretzel doing under sink work. In another example of a project growing a bit, I also relocated the water filter stuff under the sink so it now is easier to work on (I so love to work under a $#*#*($# sink) and I reinforced another cabinet's bottom so it will hold the cast iron cookware without warping.
All of the cabinet bottoms have been finished with marine wood finish and right now they are outside "de-stinking". It's 9:00pm and it's 95F/35C degrees, so I'm hoping the heat will help drive off the smell by tomorrow.
Sharon had a pretty good energy filled day. It seems the SEs from the Taxol last Monday are pretty much gone. Tomorrow she has an appointment with an ear nose and throat doctor to get another look at a lump that popped up under her left ear. It went away, then came back....I see another needle in her future... :-(
-
Laurie, I used to make dd taste things too, and we had the agreement that if it was really disgusting, she was allowed to spit it out. What little kid can resist that.
When she decided she didn't like XYZ food, I would tell her that this was completely normal, since she was so small. Then I would tell her about something I didn't like when small, but that I now eat. I would tell her all this with an air of being slightly sorry for her for still being so small and unable to eat so many things. Then I would assure her that it would get better as she grew and matured and that for that reason she should re-try things she didn't like, because one day she would be big enough to like it.
It worked pretty well. She had her phases, some very annoying, but eventually got over most of it.

Yes Debbie....Happy Birthday....we share the same birthday month...both Gemini's! When my birthday falls on a Sunday, it's always on Father's Day.
Laurie: It sounds like you had a special day yesterday. Hope you got all those beautiful flowers planted...you'll have to post a photo of your beautiful yard. I wish I knew how to do that but I'm photo challenged:(
eric: nice work on the cabinets! I would love to do mine over, but it would be too challenging for either of us and would cost too much to hire it done, so we're stuck with what we have.
deb: Hope your SIL gets through his surgery without any hitches. Saying a prayer for him. Stay on top of that infection and don't let it get out of control...if it shows any signs of coming back, get right to the doctor.
Michelle: Glad you enjoyed your DGD's recital...they are so cute at that age! I miss mine so much!
Foggy here this morning...can't see the mountains! Was hoping to play golf...now I'll have to clean house instead...no more excuses!
Happy Monday everyone!

I forgot to mention tahini as an ingredient of the hummus I make. I don't think eating a little hummus with tahini is a major no-no. I agree with the moderation rule. A few years from now eating soy could be a Must Do. Things change with medical rules. That's one reason I decided not to give up my martinis and wine. I told my husband, "If I live to be 90 years old and it's discovered that drinking alcohol ISN'T a risk factor for bc, I'm going to be so PISSED." Balancing risk and enjoyment, I choose to take the risk.
Could we share risk factors? Here are mine. No children. Regular, moderate consumption of alcohol.
Laurie, glad you had such a delightful day with your family.
Michelle, nothing cuter than little girls in dance costumes.
There was a plate of left-over fried eggplant yesterday. (Cooking method: peeled, sliced, dipped in egg and milk mixture, coated with Italian breadcrumbs, browned on each side.) For DH's dinner last night, I made eggplant parmesan by layering the eggplant with a very good bottled tomato sauce from a local restaurant, shredded mozzarella and parm. reg. It was good. I ate only a small spoonful since I had had a big noon meal. For a salad, I sliced crisp cabbage very thin, quartered purple cherry tomatoes, homegrown by my neighbor, and peeled and chopped a delicious cucumber also a gift from my neighbor's garden. Dressing of wine vinegar and mayo. Salad tasted delicious.
We had over 5 inches of rain the last few days. The rain gauge topped out so I don't know much more than 5 in. No place I have to go today!
Hope everyone has a great day.
-
Carole, I like the idea of sharing risk factors. My risk factors:
heavy family incidence of cancer (all female relatives on my Mom's side), Dad had prostate cancer; took Estroven when going through menopause (my oncologist says that's bad, but that eating soy is not); moderate consumption of alcohol regularly; overweight; high stress, high electrical field exposure, shift work when younger; irregular sleep patterns
and who knows what else, as I sincerely doubt they have nailed down everything that contributes to BC....
-
High electrical field exposure? Doing what?
Eric -
Eric you sound like my DH about working under a sink.
Carole - I agree with you about All In Moderation - seems that what was bad for you 10 years ago they find out its not so bad after all.
Supper last night was a Cajun chicken & Pepper 'thing' which went over pasta. I cooked and froze it a couple of weeks ago. Didnt' feel up to much yesterday. That's why I love having ready made dinners in the freezer for those not so good days.
Well the sun is shining here today - woo hoo.
Peace and hugs to you all and hope everyone is enjoying their days.
-
I worked with mainframe computers from the time I was twenty until I was fortyish, now I manage to avoid the data center most of the time and just spend too much time in front of monitors - and aren't CRT's anymore!!!
But the major exposure I had was in a building that had high tension electrical transmission lines running one floor beneath me. Almost everyone I knew who worked in that building for more than 5 years developed some form of cancer.
-
That caught my eye. I worked for an electric utility company for awhile and worked around some significant electrical fields. My wife worked for the same utility, but 50 miles away...we met along side an Interstate highway....
Under sinks work is a pain. I found a muscle that my gym routine has apparently missed. :-) Sometimes it's faster to take everything apart then to try to do the the contortionist routine.
Eric -
Busy Thread today! Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes and the card too Deb! Its actually tomorrow but i always have the birthday month.
Tomorrow is Seasides and Laceys too, so Happy Birthday to you both hope you have a great day! Sure is a lot of BD's this month.
Yes, DH took me to the casino we got there about 3pm and didn't leave until 1:30 am we never took the time to eat so was starving by the time we left we thought burger kong would be open but it wasn't so we went to Safewway we were the only ones shopping at that time in the morning but a bucket of fried chx, macaroni salad. pizza dough, pizza sauce, pepperoni and i got a single chocolate mousse cake and DH got a single chocolate cake i said wow babe look at all this junk food he said, yeah they will think we have been smoking pot and had the munchies lol! Had fun brought home about $200 and DH brought home around the same not bad for being there all day and night. But with all the iced tea i drank all night i couldnt sleep was up all night so a little sluggish today.
I will check on those patches when Dh sees the neurologist on Wednesday. Sounds like it might be a good idea. Thanks!
My risk factors would be drinking (of course) used to smoke. I always wonder though if perfume had anything to do with it i always sprayed it on my chest area. the reason i thought this was because i had a friend wore opium perfume and i loved it so went out and bought it too, she got breast cancer and so did i later on but for some reason that always stuck in my head probably dumb but who knows?
My dads whole side of the family has either breast, lung, esphogus, stomach and brain cancers most of them have passed my dad is pretty healthy except he did have prostate cancer. But it is all pretty scarey. Me and my daughter both have the same gene called "Variant of uncertain significance" Which means basically, they don't know. Anyone else have this?
-
I only have a second but Debbie- the Opium perfume- my mother wore it forever and she passed from BC. That is so weird. I actually kept her last unopened bottle after she passed, for the smell.
-
That is very bizarre about the Opium perfume... I used to wear it as a teenager (which was many moons ago)... makes ya wonder though eh? Happy birthday to you all xxxxx
I have chicken breasts out of the freezer and that is as far as I have thought about dinner.
-
Same here Tazzy, maybe some leftover Fried Rice from a takeout we had.
My FSIL's procedure was a success, they removed 7 stones from the duct near the small intestines via going down the throat into the stomach and there is a duct that connects to the small intestine so they went in there and got those suckers out. Nick is doing great and my DD is relieved.
-
Happy Birthday girls and many many more!
Wow, I used to wear Opium all the time too! Infact i still have some- maybe we should send off to be tested somewhere. Could the pheromones in it cause bc or something? We could be making history here. lol
Ahhh dinner, I made homemade beef vegetable soup last night so I'm just going to heat that up when my hubby gets home. Not very exciting but it will do the job of filling us up. Sad thing is when we have something healthy like that, we feel we can reward ourselves later with fozen moosetracks yogurt.
-
Good news Deborye - what a relief for you all.
2Fried... I hear you about the rewarding yourself.... We have a tub of Skor ice cream in the freezer - that is definitely on the menu tonight. Frozen moostracks yogurt. I've not heard of that one.
I have some bok choy and leeks that I need to use up... am thinking of doing up a stir fry - then again may be nice to slice and pour over some mixed veggie soup... ??? Am open to any other ideas.
Curiouser & curiouser on the Opium perfume... ?? This may be warrant some more investigation.
-
Dinner tonight was leftover turkey breast and dressing with a sweet potato and beets. No salad tonight because we had a huge kale salad with peppers, mushrooms, carrots and cucumbers for lunch today.
Deb: Glad you fSIL's ordeal is over and that he's doing well!
I've always sprayed perfume on my chest as well...not opium but other brands. My ND said that was a definite No No. He said if you must, spray it on your clothes, but never on your body. Too late for me:(
-
Happy birthday, birthday girls! Hope you all celebrate big!
I am a little pooped out after chaperoning my grandson's 3rd grade field trip to Fenway Park. Lots of time on the bus and lots of stairs in the ballpark!
DH brought home mac 'n cheese from a place near my DD's house after bringing her back from physical therapy. Mine had chicken, goat cheese, kalamata olives, artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes. It was pretty good.
I have a Rad Onco appt tomorrow at 4, then we are meeting friends for dinner at La Morra... finally! On Wednesday I see the MO, then on Thursday I'll start Xeloda. That will probably take care of my appetite for a few months...lol.
Deb - glad to hear your FSIL is doing well, I am sure everyone is relieved.
Interesting about the perfume - I never used Opium, I've used Estee Lauder's Beautiful for about 25 years. Never really sprayed it on my chest but I've used the shower gel and the perfumed cream forever, too. My kids call it "the smell of mom."
-
Michelle, people I know on xeloda seem to do pretty well but I know every one is different. Watch out for hand/foot symdrome, basically, red painful palms and soles of feet. But that can partially be prevented by not putting alot of pressue on them and not everyone gets it. Basically, no squeezing tools like trimming bushes, standing for hours. It helps to keep feet up, and if you notice redness, call your doc and use bag balm and ice packs. The Xeloda "leaks out" when soles and palms are subject to pressure, so they get red and peel, and sometimes get numb, so I'm hoping that won't happen! Also, ask your MD about taking antinausea meds, eating a little, taking Xeloda, eating a little and see if he wants you to do this, because it might help. I think you'll do great.
I'm having fresh pineapple and frozen blueberries for dinner. The frozen blueberries, ran a little when they thawed and made it very pretty!
PS a Happy Belated Birthday Debbie! And I'm sorry for those I forgot, I didn't have time to read the whole post!
-
Thanks, Bedo! There's a good discussion about Xeloda in the stage IV forum, and your advice sounds right on target. I'll be hoping to escape the H/F problem and sometimes dosage can be adjusted if it's bad. I'll be sure to get an RX for anti-nausea meds, although I still have a few left from last summer's chemo. I never finished the one RX I had. Hopefully, I won't need much with this.
-
Good luck for tomorrow Michelle... and enjoy your dinner with friends.
Did you ever find a good recipe for your mustard/pepper you brought back from France?
-
Thanks, Tazzy. So far the only thing I've done with the mustard is use it on a roast beef sandwich. That was pretty darn good!
-
Michelle: Good luck tomorrow with your app'ts. Sending you prayers and positive energy!
-
Tazzy, I meant to tell you that I use store bought dressings for my Mason Jar Salads. I would have no idea how to make a good salad dressing, so good for you! I am one of the worst cooks here, really.
-
Bedo, it is only since I have been off work that I looked at doing my own salad dressings. So far have only done a Greek dressing, but it was so easy it got me thinking about doing my own. Am sure when I am back at work, store ones will once again fill my fridge
-
Deborye. Glad SIL's procedure is done and all is well.
Michelle...good luck from Sharon and I.
Sharon's ENT (for evaluation of a lump under her left ear) appointment didn't happen. We nad the card, they forgot to put the appt in the computer.
We had a what is best described as a mildly hot relish on tortillas for dinner and now we're up at the public pool. I worked from home, so I have an evening to enjoy with everyone....
Eric -
I have worn Opium for years too, how weird is that? Have some now... Will not spray it on me, just clothes. Or maybe not at all...
Deb - glad the surgery went well!
-
Just catching up on the thread....Momine, what a clever and understanding mom!
-
Nothing like those school bus rides, eh Michelle! Nice day to tour Fenway, tho.
Good luck at DF and hope La Morra is tasty. I almost suggested that spot to DH and DS2 since they are taking me out for birthday dinner tomorrow, but I will be getting home late enough from work, that we will go to a favorite spot in town. I'll love hearing what you ate.
Called DH tonight as I was leaving work to see if he wanted me to
pick up dinner on the way......instead, music to my ears, he said, I'm making it....just waiting for you to get home so I can start the grill. Result....teriyaki chcken breasts and garlic/lemon/pepper grilled asparagus with asian slaw (my contribution). Nice healthy dinner followed by catch-up on MadMen.
Deb, so happy SIL to be had a successful procedure! -
Happy Birthday Lacey!
Happy Birthday Seaside! Hope you both have a great day,. from one twin to another!!!
Michelle- Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope the Xeloda is gentle on you. Have a great time at dinner tomorrow. or i guess it would be tonight since it is after midnight now.
Wow, It makes me wonder about the Opium now, or maybe any perfume but opium is pretty strong. I wonder if Komen or any of the other BC foundations have checked this out. I agree specialk maybe just spray it on clothes.
Deb- Glad the surgery went well. How is your infection?
2friedeggs, i like your name its cute.
Eric- I guess i missed the post on your wifes lump under her ear. I had one also about 3 yrs ago had surgery to remove it and it was b9 hope your wifes is too.
