Amy: Welcome......so, Red or white chowder?

Ended up making a Moroccan chicken dish (guess it would be considered a "stew") by blending a couple of recipes that had lots of interesting spices in them. I did casually write down what I was doing, so if anyone is game, I can share. Pretty spicey!

Yes, Laurie, it will be interesting indeed to see if little grandson continues to accept/enjoy the wide range of foods that he is given. I have a feeling that he will not be seeing any Mickie D's as long as his parents are in charge....so he'll probably find ways to access that and other typical fast foods as he gets socialized beyond his family! His dad, my DS1, has always been an adventurous eater even as a pre-schooler (artichokes, mussels, calamari...before they became popular!). DS2 was really a fussy eater when young, but as an adult he is fine with everything...as long as I leave raisins out of my t-giv stuffing! :) I have to say that I am always happy to see him order items at restaurants that he would never have touched in the past.

By the way, our pooch had such a great time during our visit, I may need to rent a toddler to keep her stimulated....and maybe she'll make it way beyond her 15th birthday. So, for now the last vet trip is off the calendar. :) What a difference a week can make!

wow- it seems everyone was busy here!  I just made meatballs with the venison my SIL got last year.  Added a bit of teriaki and turky gravy and served over rice, cause i am still fighting diarrhea.  I think it will stay down.  I would have loved to spice it up a bit and told the kids they better- but for me it was edible!  LOL. Not exactly gourmet!  LOL

    welcome Amy !Laughing

Carrie- You are always doing such nice things for everyone,!I hope your friend will be ok!

Lacy- I would love the morr chx stew recipe, sounds good. Glad your furbaby is doing much better!

Laurie-  I had to laugh at your comment on your trip to costco or did you say sams club? I cant remember.but every time i used to go to both of those places i saved so money on food after tasting all of there samples and then i wouldnt be hungry anymore. Too bad we dont have any of those near us now. We do have a kitchen connection but they only serve pretzels not worth my time to go there LOL!

Michelle- Can you ask the managers at any of the stores to start carrying your taco sauce? My fav is pace picante and if they ever stopped carrying it i would not be a very happy person. I put that on everything besides taco's i put it on my salad in my green beans too.

Moonflower- I have venison in my freezer but dont cook it very often unless my DH asks me too he loves it and i will make myself somthing else do you have some good recipes to share for the venison?

Minustwo- I love the idea of the hangers, i have so much stuff in my closet that i dont wear and cant seem to get rid of, last week i took a lot and put them in one of the spare rooms, i should of just put them in a bag and took them to the goodwill. My moms egg salad was just mayo, a tiny bit of mustard, green onions and lots of pepper and lettuce, so simple but so good!

I bought the tuna loin today, tomorrow i will make Apples moms tuna salad.

Amy  Welcome..so much fun here AND good ideas for dinner!  Definitely interested in the zucchini fries, I baked some sweet potato fries and they just werent the same.

Laurie hope your ear is getting better, they can be so painful....ever wonder how the little babies handle them? My daughter had them constantly and was a miserable child till we had the tubes put in, then she was a new kid.

Debbie, I feel fortunate that I am not working and can help. They were all there for me when I was needing it, so it feels good to be able to do the same.  Plus if your making one meatloaf for yourself you might as well make 2

Lacey  New concept "rent a toddler" ha ha I bet you would lots of takers on that one.

Michelle  Guess you really have to plan ahead if you want mexican....but I understand once you find something you really like nothing else is the same.

I treat the venison just like beef- never had a problem iwth it.  My dad and brothers used to hunt and I never ate venison at home- but after I married a hunter- it was way cheaper to eat the venison.  So now buying ground beef is pretty rare!  LOL.  If your not sure- make sure it is a spicy receipe - like try it in chili first.

For those of you looking for new hot sauces - try Mrs. Renfro's salsa.  Most grocery store here carry it.  You can get red, green, hot, mild, mango, pineapple, ghost pepper salsa, etc.  It's home is Ft. Worth so maybe not available back east, but on top of being really tasty they support cancer research.  www.renfrofoods.com (copy & paste since I can't do links).  See below for cancer research committment.

As a community minded company, in 2007, Renfro Foods launched its Pink Lid Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. Six of its top-selling salsas - Mango Habanero, Green, Black Bean, Raspberry Chipotle, Habanero, and Peach - were all re-fitted with pink lids and new labels. A portion of the sales were given to organizations and institutions involved in cancer research. To date, the company has donated $45,000 to cancer research.

Making chicken cacciatore for dinner. I put chx breast in a crock pot with crushed style tomato sauce, a little tomato paste, a little red and white wine (since i had both opened) mushroom, red bell peppers, and onions and garlic cloves about 5 that i sauted lightly first, a pinch of sugar, italian seasonings, basil, oregano, S&P garlic powder, paprika and pepper flakes, let it cook on low for 5-7 hours. I usually use bone-in chicken but couldnt find any so used skinless, boneless chicken, the smell is smelling so good through out the house. You can use your favorite spegg sauce instead but i like my homemade sauce. This is great over pasta or rice too.

Having salad and honey glazed carrots with it.

Moroccan Pigeon Pie at my daughter's...most interesting dish she made with chicken thigh meat:

    http://www.theworldwidegourmet.com/recipes/pastilla-moroccan-pigeon-pie/

She's getting pretty adventurous considering the kiddies won't touch anything they don't recognize as pizza, chicken fingers, mac and cheese or chinese food!

We're keeping the kids up way past their bedtime, feeding them popcorn and jelly beans, watching Puss 'n Boots and Lady and the Tramp, and they may get a donut before they go to bed...LOL!!!

In other words, we're doing our grandparent duty!!!

Wow! I didn't know that Deb!  That's great! I know you will do something special!

It's hard to keep up, with my job taking up all my time!  I just pick and choose who I can spend time with on the weekends now.

I had mussels tonight with my friend Robin at an Indian restaurant.  It's sad.  We are addicted. and meet there once a week

This weekend it's my 24 year old friend and maybe (or not) her 9 month baby.  We will see a movie and hang out.   And then Hiking or something outdoors with my friend of 20 years on Sunday in South County

I am Quaker, but have started going to church with my daughter and BF at the Unitarian Church on Sundays

Have a fire going and Pandora.

Will be thinking of all of you.

    Tomorrow study, study, study.

    Best, ladies.  xo

Vickie - wow, great grandbabies!  I hope I live long enough to see one.  At best, I'll be an old, old lady...lol.  My oldest grandchild is 8.

Debbie, I'll post that Moroccan chicken recipe tomorrow. ...need some shut-eye since I seem to have been hit by a massive head cold out of the blue. Drat!!

Debbie you crack me up!!   I meant my daughter and *her* BF.  I had a romantic evening with my 2 cats lol

    Lacey rest rest rest!

Minus 2 I will try that today as I study today, thanks!

Joyce that sounds hysterical about your car!  I am so jealous about singer island.  My brother has a house in Port St Lucie, but he rents it out.  It's supposed to be very beautiful there.  Have fun with Michelle!

Deb  Congrats on the five years!! That is a milestone I cant wait to reach....1 year for me.

Joy  You are making me so jealous of being outside with warm weather.  It cant get here fast enough for me, although not complaining about our mild winter.  I have been able to get out and walk frequently, but could use some warm sun.

Had a fish fry last night, I dont usually go that route but couldnt resist....whats a few more minutes on the eliptical anyway?

Lacey  rest and get better and drink, drink, drink (water) to flush it away.

Joyce - have a fun day, and take some pictures!  And congrats on the one year anniversary!  Big hugs and love to you and DH for your 44th wedding anniversary - that's a big deal these days!

Deb - maybe we should plan a trip to Pickity Place in late March or early April (when Joyce is in town) so we can properly celebrate your 5-year cancerversary.  I'll bet you're up for that Kiss

Lazy morning around here - we didn't get home until almost 1 a.m., well past our bedtime...lol.  DH is just stirring.

Ok reporting back on the zucchini fries.  They weren't like french fries but they were absolutely DELICIOUS. No recipe needed. Just use smaller sized zucchini (I used three) - quarter them lengthwise, then cut in half. Don't make too thin.  Beat an egg with a little water.  Dip zucchini in egg and then in cornmeal mixed with some seasonings. (I used paprika, pepper, garlic powder). I put the cornmeal in a big ziplock bag and threw in the zucchinis about 5 fries at a time and shook to cover. Fast and easy.

Spread them all on a baking sheet not touching each other. Drizzle with olive oil. Bake at 400+ (I think my oven was around 425) for maybe 1/2 hour. I turned them halfway through.

They were soft but crunchy with the cornmeal coating. My husband put some hot sauce on his, but he puts hot sauce on EVERYTHING.  I think they would have been nice to have a sauce to dip in, but they were delicious without. They were gone in NO TIME and I went out and bought more zucchini to make them again tonight.

Next time I'll tell you about the new way I found to make cauliflower. YUM!

welcome Amy!  I do fried zuccini sticks in the summer and make a dipping sauce for them.  I use about 2 tablespoons of mayo and add probably about the same amount of hiney and mix together.  I never measure this dip, I just know how it looks- sorry!  But it will end up kind of a golden color and have the consistency of a dip/dressing.  We love it!

I've missed so much in the past couple of days and I only have a minute....

Deb- yha on five years!  I agree with Michelle, we can go to pickety place and celebrate the end of March/April when Joyce is around?!

Lacey- I hope you feel better soon and I am so glad your dog is feeling good and has found his spare tank of spunk.  Gets lots of rest.

Michelle- glad you had fin last night and was having a lazy morning with DH today.

I can't remember who wrote it but I laughed so hard when someone reminded Lacey to drink a lot and then specified water, lol!

I am doing better, glands are still swollen and I basically just have a wicked cold at this point.  Because I am an idiot we are all heading to a friends house for a sleep over tonight.  But, they have a spare bedroom DH and I will get and the boys will all sleep in their younger sons room with him.  So I should still be able to get a good nights sleep and head to bed when I am tired.  The Dr called me last night at 8- my heart just about exploded thinking to call me at night was bad news.  But it wasn't- my blood levels came back normal.  So I had a glass of wine:P

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

    ummmm---Amy it was honey-----not hiney.

Man my typos are always nuts!  I poop in the oven, put bat wings in my food and now I am suggesting some hiney in the dip!
