In all the hospitals in central Ohio they put a red bracelet on your arm indicating DO NOT DO BLOOD DRAWS OR BPs ! I just assumed they would do that everywhere.

Momine - that was sensible. The surgeon only took one node from the right side, so far so good for me. Not looking forward to my MRI on the 26th - I delayed making the appt so I could separate it out from my birthday and our anniversary which is on Monday (35 years). 3 years ago I had the fateful mammo on my birthday and found out I had cancer 13 days later, the day before our anniversary, so you can understand why I don't want any results around this time.
Still on a high from that ride this morning - boy do I get a buzz out of it. I actually felt like going for another ride this afternoon.
Markets tomorrow AM, looking forward to getting some fresh fish, fudge and bananas as usual. Might get some new basil plants - they have 3 for $5.

When I had my lump reconstruction, they put a red band around my right wrist saying no IV's or needles.
Repubs have become like mad dogs (no offense to dogs) in their mania to win this election. First, ALL pollsters that have Mittens behind are skewed, that would seemingly mean FAUX news too, since it has had him behind. Then the president is "cooking the books" for political gain. The fact that he could allegedly do this to the career bureaucrats of a governmental agency with an impeccable record for honesty seems beyond their comprehension.
Oh, well, same ole same ole. Have a great Saturday everybody. Going to get a facial and then buy a new pair of shoes! Woohoo, I love shopping!

Kam...love the (noun). As I'm so forgetful...happy-happy to you on Monday SusieQ. Bike rides sound so energizing...your description sounds like the "runner's high". In fact, I think you could have this sensation doing anything....I've done it walking. Not great at descriptions but it is partly being so on tune with what you are doing that it is all there is.....so that you have no other feeling but the joy and freedom of what you are doing. Makes your mind clear of any ability to have a neutral or negative sensation or consideration. You are operating at the point at your highest level.
WR....it is cold here from yesterday's rain and damp. Not sure about any sun today. So, I took my summer rose avatar and put it away. If nothing else I'd like to see it warm a bit which I do think will happen.
I do wish there could be an accounting for those who lie and cheat -- and yes, even on my side. Jack Welch...had to admit that he had no conspiracy evidence. What buffoons we must look like to others...thanks Jack. You held your ground...what a guy !!!!!Truths based on facts and evidence help you look so much better. Of course, it helps us all and ALL should be thrilled about our job situation.....any time things get better....no matter who is President. My joy from this comes just from the fact that it is soooo needed, and from the fact that it could happen with such non-cooperation from the R. side.
Like most I try and remember that it is the TRUTH that sets you free. Lies, tricks, distortions.....all of this can work for awhile, but beware the life span of it. What is waiting on the other end can be a Jack Welch...nearly in coherent in his zeal not to believe. It is hard to believe that is what the Republicans want. There is no conspiracy Jack....but sleep with one eye open if you must.

FABUOUS day here, oh, the colours of western New England - make all the snow worth it, truth, I actually LIKE the snow too...morning sun glittering on pure white snow in the fields around my little cabin, yummy to look forward to, supposed to get a lot this year, didn't even have a chance to take out snowshoes last year...

Sun....the cat is just a picture I like. I do have a number of homeless -- thrown away by society cats here on my property. Also have ended up with 2 dogs I wanted several yrs. ago and four other throw aways. I'm my own mini-humane society and I keep telling Gods that be...no vacancy here. I also go out around town here ( there are some feral cat areas ) and feed them daily. This is not really what I wanted for myself---it tends to take up a fair amt. of time and money....but seems not too many people around here are interested. At least ( not sure how I managed ) all the cats and dogs on my little two acre place are neutered and have had vet checks etc. Go to the vet when needed. Dh is supportive...or else it couldn't happen. I can't do as much as I'd like but they have good food, fresh water, semi-heated area in winter and summer fans and vet care when needed.
More than you wanted to know probably. I too, by the way love a "good" winter. Loved living in southern California....but after 25 yrs. of little seasonal distinctions and being able to eat Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners on a picnic table if you so desired outside, just wore out. I grew up here where there are VERY distinct seasons and I think my seasonal circadian rhythms needed it....I feel more complete and in tune here. Love your poetic description of your cabin and the white snow.......the best for makig snow ice-cream.

I totally get why you wouldn't want your MRI anywhere near your birthday or anniversary. My diagnosis was on Pearl Harbor Day, if you can believe that! Remind us all when the date gets closer and we'll be in your bag with treats and music.
Speaking of weather, after one of the wettest springs on record here in the Seattle area, we are having a record stretch of dry weather. It's supposed to be 70 today which is warm for Seattle for this time of year. I'm really enjoying it, but the fire danger in the mountains and nearby areas is really scary. I say, let's have a good soaking rain for a couple of days, and then start another dry stretch.

Susie the Biker Babe - sounds great. My thighs ache just thinking of the hills around where I live. Speaking of strange, temperature is dropping from mid 70's t mid 50's this afteroon - dark clouds moving in - just had to dash to get all my laundry off the line - almost time to take down the screens, so the snow doesn't freeze bewteen them & the windows.
Jackie - I can't IMAGINE living without the 4 Seasons - missed the "real" Spring, Fall when I lived near Washington DC - and wht they call "summer" is actually Steam Bath ( without the free towels) - well, no wonder, it was built on a swamp.
I am LOVING the Big Bird comics - speaking of B's - hope Blue's Back is feeling better. Didn't she have a "special" doc appt. on Thursday? News?
So unusual to see such a dark sky as a backdrop to these amazingly bright yellow, red, orange leaves - lots of maple trees around me...

IllinoisLady - hats off to you for caring for the animals and especially the feral kitties. My Emma came from a rescued feral litter. Of the four in her litter, two could be tamed and the other two had to be put back into the colony. I found her at the humane society with her brother and stupid me, I adopted her, but not her brother. I hadn't had a cat since I was a child and had no idea, at 8 months, they could be bonded..until I read the bio in her packet. I went back a couple of weeks later, but he had been adopted. She is the sweetest of cats and my other female just bullies her, though in the 5 years I've had them, Ms. Boo has tempered her meaness and they pretty much hang together. My biggest wish is to outlive my animals and struggle with the other alternative....
Today, and throughout the weekend, I'm dogsitting for a friend who was a major support through my illness. They have a new dog with extreme separation anxiety, so I came to their big beautiful house for the weekend (my cats are well cared for by a neighbor, but I miss them!). Her husband is a retired surgeon and he just loves to build things. They sit on 20+ acres of lovely old growth forest with a stream and waterfall. He's built trails of sawdust bordered by rocks or tree limbs all over the property and the circle round to the forested creek in back..including picnic spots and gremlin faces on trees.
Fall is coming here too....the nights have dipped down into the high 30's and I'm afraid there is no hope for my green tomatos (sometimes we get our first snow in early Sept, so I shouldn't complain). Might get up to 70'ish today. I'm using this quiet time to finish my 2011 taxes, then moving on to sorting through the various medical bills for next years taxes.....then I shall figure out if I can retire, though it is not looking good, despite the pending buyout.
On the political front....I absolutely detest this underinformed perjorative use of the term "Socialist" and "Muslim" against our President. Not that being either is bad in my book, but they are such incorrect labels for Obama. I was a political animal starting around age 10 and I've been on this planet for awhile....we've had Social Security, Medicare, the Veterans Administration around for decades...truely "socialistic" programs and NOTHING like what Obama has suggested, or passed legislatetively comes close to these in ideology. In fact, the ACA is a big boon for private health insurance companies - almost sickenly so. I NEVER in my years since being the age of 10, have seen a POTUS labelled as "Socialist" until Obama. The truth is, the current Rightwing have gone so far to the Right in their perspective, that anything but a fascist state would look like socialism to them. Do they not teach government in high school anymore. We're these the people that goofed off during class (that drove me nuts, btw)?
I don't know if anyone here remembers Senator Packwood and Senator Hatfield from Oregon. Both Republicans. They are my measure of how far that party has gone off the Rightwing deep end. They would both be considered "liberals" by today's standard. Add Senator Brooke from Massachusetts and Senator Kuchel of California....these were the Republicans of the 1960's.....it all went haywire because of the passage of the Civil Rights Act...i.e. racism. Then Reagan's coddling of the Religious Right....I honestly think they follow those two core principles and will take on any nonesense after that, they are so ensconsed in their two issues....enough. Ugh.

Sun - I must mention I don't do hills. We are lucky that the bike track is virtually flat - follows a creek. There is one street near home - a rather deceptive gradual slope - normally I have to get off and walk, but yesterday I powered up it to the end. Got attacked by a magpie again, but it only had one go and didn't get too close luckily.
Going to be 35 Celcius here today, then 10 degrees cooler on Monday. We haven't had any significant rain here for SO long - everything's brown. I just might have to have a swim.

I think that nixon's Southern strategy, where he used the issue of race to his advantage, was the start of the downfall of the Republican Party. IMO.

Kam, I've had luck with saving green tomatoes in the past and I'm trying it again this year. I pick the best looking of the green tomatoes - don't want ones that are damaged looking. Then I wipe the tomatoes with a soft cloth or paper towel, wrap them in tissue paper or paper towels and put them in boxes. I don't stack them high in the boxes, just two or at most three layers deep, trying to put tomatoes of similar size/color in boxes together (I just use shoe boxes). Then I check a tomato or two in each box every week and use them as they ripen. I get about 6 - 8 weeks of fresh tasting tomatoes beyond what I would this way.

You can also make green tomato relish which I have done --- mainly a lazy reaction of mine. If willing to have a big jar sit in your fridge ( and fill from it to smaller ) you don't have to actually can your relish.....it will last for over a yr. in the fridge. We can't ( not enough sun ) have a garden anymore here in the woods where we live or I'd just print out my recipe ( no idea exactly where it even is ) but I use to do this every yr. with the tomatoes sort of left over. There are probably tons of recipes on the Internet.

I once was at an anti-Vietnam War Rally in the 60's in San Fran and comedian Dick Gregory threatnened the POTUS at the time (Richard Nixon). Could have sworn he went to jail for 5 years, but I've never been able to verify.
Changing subjects, since I'm away from my house, I can't get to the tomatoes until I go home and I'll be back to work by then (and too tired to do much of anything cooking wise). Hopefully I can figure out how to atleast shoe box them, but the relish does sound like something I'd like!

You can also ripen green tomatoes by putting them in a brown paper bag and putting the bag someplace dark like a closet. My mother convinced me to try that many years ago and by golly it works. They don't taste as good as the sun ripened ones but still 100% better than what you can buy in the stores.
Social Security and Medicare were both fought against by being called socialist. Ditto for the Rural Electrification Project that brought electricity to rural areas and I'm sure there were lots more. The way it is being flung around politically now police, schools, fire departments, road building, public utilities, etc. etc. would fit their definition. All things we would be happy to give up ... not.

Edited to add: Rabbit, the paper bag thing sounds easier, I'll have to try that next year. I boxed mine today only 3 shoe boxes, single layer. If I did any 3 layers before it had to be a bigger box.

don't know what post you're talking about, as I don't read much on BCO except this thread, but it is VERY EASY to contact the Secret Service, or Homeland Security, anything that you believe is threatening. If it's threatening enough for someone I RESPECT ( you!) to report, sadly, it also doesn't surprise me that Moderators at BCO penalized the wrong person.

I would never think of reporting a political post (really anything, given how clueless I apparently am on what is acceptable), but I have to admit it, when I saw that particular post, it absolutely shocked me. Now I feel somewhat ashamed I didn't speak up the moment I saw it. Apparently it doesn't meet the smell test, though. Like I said, I was there in person (circa 1967) when Dick Gregory (comically) threatned the POTUS and I remember their were consequences at the time.

Getting ready to have a big storm move in. The temps are starting to fall already. I've been trying to get up the acorns, but it's a useless task ... and my shoulder is killing me. You can't even tell I swept the driveway and raked those suckers up. It took me two hours and it's already a mess again! From now on, I'm leaving that project to Tim. He can use the blower on them.
I've been having to listen to Tim rant and rave on the telephone. He's very right wing in his politics. In fact, he's extreme. I finally had to tell him to call someone else. I refuse to discuss politics with him.
River ... I agree with you. It's best to stay right here. I took a look at the "mirror" thread and all it did was aggravate me. I just have to remember to log in first ... that way most of the thread is on ignore.
Mary ... I think the picture you're talking about is very inappropriate. I remember someone got their hands spanked for posting an inappropriate picture of Bush.

rr - I don't mind other political opinions at all, I DO object strongly to lies. And personally, just don't want to spend any time communicating with people, even if they do have bc, who do not think ALL children deserve to have adequate food and medical care. That's such a bottom line for me, and helping people when they are in difficulty, well, that's also what I consider the correct thing to do, as well as the most sensible - simply can not go back to the 1920's, or worse.
BTW, if you haven't yet seen Half the Sky - and want to be inspired by WOMEN and what we can do, find out when it will be shown again on your PBS ( YEAH, Big Bird) station.
