Yes, do!

Went to the funeral of the mother of a friend of mine today. I told my husband that when I die I don't want a funeral or anyone preaching over me. I wouldn't mind a group of friends getting together and giggling over some of my more stupid mishaps - but NO ministers or anything even remotely similar. For the reception they had chocolate - in just about every form imaginable, including some really delicious chocolates filled with liquor. Her mom loved chocolate, so that was the way she chose to say good-bye, with a chocolate feast. I thought that was a pretty good choice.

Hello to everyone, and ta-ta for now, as I'm tired and going to put my feet up and read a book.
-
I don't like funerals either - they are a total rip off over here - way way over priced.
Now that I've had a big rest and watched my political tv shows, I just might vacuum upstairs - that will be a shock to the system

-
I don't make fun of anyone for having breast cancer.
-
ETA: Bah. Deleted.
-
Garden: Interesting question. As long as my remains are not fed to the hyenas I've always thought that what people decide to do or not do for me is up to them. I belong to me in life but to my loved ones in death. (If they want to celebrate, that's fine too - lol!)
-
I have to point this out onedownoneup~
You stated "I have read the alternative posts and feel that these women have a right to treat their bc the way they choose." I think the problem with that is that some of the women have not yet been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Isn't that what Athena and Yorkie have been discussing?
-
Popped over to alternative and read some of the posts by the person who does not have bc but continually posts various symptoms and complaints. Frankly, started wondering if her real disease might be Munchausen's.
-
That she says she has undiagnosed cancer and then states that she is curing her undiagnosed cancer through alternative methods is, IMO, improper conduct and misleading to those who do have cancer and are looking for alternative means that work. She previously claimed to have self diagnosed and cured AIDS twice and also has undiagnosed MS. I find that person's conduct dangerous and sad. I think those who support her are well meaning but misguided when it comes to their support of her conduct.
-
I think the best line over there was something about curing an infection by plucking the oysters out of Campbell's Oyster stew with her fingers........
I feel more sorry for the well meaning people who think they are providing this person support, when I have a feeling they are just being played.
I find it interesting that someone who only has 10 posts here finds our "hidden" thread and feels compelled to scold us. How does that happen??

Not all of the alternative ladies are supportive - I did notice one speaking out.
-
Well considering I got up at 4:30, I've had a very productive day. Bike ride, watched tv, vacc'd upstairs, watered the garden and went out to get an extra hose for the pool cleaner. The best of all is roast lamb in the oven - yumm.
Alexandria - it is like something out of a movie. I wish the bloody thing had gone for the 2 guys behind me. I'm off to buy some big strong cable ties tomorrow after work. Most of the serious cyclists over here attach them to their helmets to stop the birds getting too close. I wish there was some sort of little umbrella you could wear on your head

Everyone send vibes for rain for us, my water tank is empty and they charge us for water here.
-
Dangers of posting from an Iphone - I posted my cousin's (imo, not something I would do) treatment of her BC - I thought I'd get some opinions here. At first glance of that thread, I felt the 'person of interest' might have some more pressing issues than BC, if you know what I mean. I don't want to say anything explicit about her, as that would be presumptous, but in my mind, a true dialog would not be possible.
-
Alexandria - good luck with next interview.
We were so fortunate, to be between the lines of two horrendous thunderbomers - mostly got very heavy, much needed rain, but still worried about friend in the DC area.
Mary - I think some people who get "offended" when someone posts on an Alternative, or Complementary thread must search out the "offenders" membership page, and then go to the threads she most often posts on, to express, ah, opinions? Seems not to be making the distinction that this is a Friendship Thread of women with breast cancer, who have been supporting each other for, lets see, it's now up to 907 pages. And yes, as it's been going on so delightfully long, have gotten to know each other, RESPECT some very deeply held mutual values, and also have a depth of experience dealing with breast cancer, various types of treatment, and are generous enough to share that experience with others.
Having been banned for being "unkind" I've learned not to try to share my own breast cancer experience outside of this thread, don't feel a responsibility as some more generous women still do, to communicate on threads where so often the communication is denigrated, or not welcome.
SO, if anyone wants to know how I've managed ( happily) to enter my 6th year on Arimidex, with good bones, no joint pain, and more energy, losing 20 pounds - don't bother looking on those other threads.... still so sorry to see such good women ( here) getting their paws hit on other threads.
Don't like, don't read as the Moderators have said, or BRUSSEL SPROUTS to someone who has been posting since the long ago time of, let's see - less than a month??? And it's not even friday...
Happy US Open Tennis today...
-
Alexandria, that dx plus extreme hypochondria have been suggested. Also, her behavior seems to have escalated as almost the entire focus of the thread is now either supporting or questioning her bizarre statements. Supporters say there's no harm done by allowing her to babble nonsense. I disagree. There are many vulnerable bc sufferers who might actually believe that self-cure is the way to go, because so-and-so said it worked for her. After all none of us really want to go through surgery, chemo, radiation, hormonals etc. Some might grasp onto any chance to avoid these things.
-
I think there is evidence of mental illnessthere. I do believe she needs help but not for bc. I think it is not unkind to suggest that she may need help for a mental rather than physical disease.
-
I think it's TIME to just let it go. If the women who post on a thread regularly even if it is in the Alternative or Complementary Forum, want to take it away from the subject of bc and turn it into a "friendship" thread, maybe it's just time to move the thread to another Forum and even "rename" it, or have the OP change the post. Seriously, why is anyone spending time posting on it anymore. I don't see any value, if you want to be on the site, at least scan the newer mor active posts & see if you can help? Or not, but please, let it go. Nobody is gonna change anything there, think that's obvious by now.
-
Telling someone that you think that they may be mentally ill is potentially upsetting and embarrassing for the person you are informing. To do so in a public forum rather than privately seems imprudent at best. To do so in a way that one person after another swoops in and joins the chorus in that public setting informing (accusing?) that person that you believe she is mentally ill or that she is lying probably rises to the level of bullying.
I don't believe that any of those who have taken to diagnosing this woman based on her posts has claimed sufficient medical training to do so, and I don't believe that any trained and licensed medical professional would attempt such an undertaking. Let the woman live in peace.
If she does have an attention seeking disorder, no matter how generous the original intentions were, at this point, your posts to her are feeding it, and not helping her. If she does have breast cancer, or even if she really believes that she does, the things that have been said to her in that public forum are just plain mean.
People who are trained to work with children are taught early in the process that it is best to point out things that need to be changed in a private setting if at all possible. The privacy allows the child to learn from their mistakes rather than focusing on damage control from public humiliation. Perhaps it is time to apply the same principle here.

More brussel sprouts to eat while our TEACHERS are reading some interesting information, thinking of CLC, and all the other brave women who are "trying" and it must be trying, to teach the next generations, what we used to call Science:

This is a few days old, but did anyone see this:
Paul Ryan Acknowledges Requesting Federal Money From Program Funded By Obamacare
Earlier this week, the Nation uncovered the fact that Paul Ryan - who has voted with his party to repeal President Obama's health care law over 30 times - requested Obamacare funds for his Wisconsin district in 2010. However, after the news broke that Ryan sought to fund a new community health center with federal money provided through health care reform, his campaign was quick to retort that grant program has nothing to do with supporting Obamacare because it was created under former President George W. Bush.
Bush did support federal grant programs for community health centers during his presidency. But the specific grant requested by Ryan is funded through Obamacare, which provides $11 billion to expand community health centers. When Ryan requested the funds in 2010, they represented money that Obama approved - under a law that Ryan has referred to as "Washington's reckless spending spree."

Lol, Athena. It's always about the hypocrisy, or, the right's philosophy of 'do what I say, not what I do.'
-
Same old story. MY stuff is good stuff ... YOUR stuff is unnecessary reckless spending

Hope all our east coasters got through the storms OK and hopefully with power still on.
Not sure of what we are doing today. Need to go out and about later but we are babysitting the neighbors dog this weekend so depends on what time they get home to pick him up. Maybe I can work another dinner 'out' instead of cooking out of the deal?
Hope everybody is having a nice Sunday! Weather here is much cooler with blue skies, white fluffy clouds and lots of sunshine ... perfect.

Speaking of Buttercup ... I saw a lost dog ad for a Great Dane named Buttercup last week. Just made me chuckle for such a huge dog. Hope they found him.

This one's a nurse, I believe, and I hope she is doing well.

In my experience, having lived through umpteen federal, provincial and municipal elections, the candidates have been required to be very specific about their policies.
For example: If you run on cutting taxes AND reducing the deficit, exactly how do you propose to do that? Oh, through eliminating tax loopholes. Okay, which ones, specifically? After all, I need to know if any of those tax "loopholes" are ones which make a significance difference to my net income.
We up here in the GWN tend to demand specifics from our politicians. Call us skeptics -- we don't believe everything we hear. Must be a northern thing!!!
p.s. I love Great Danes! Wish they could enjoy a much longer life than they do.

Saw that on FB! Love it! Seems to apply lots these days.

Hi, Blue, that's a good one. But why do they have to share it with us?
Good morning all...smiling reading Nate Silver today!!!!!!
