Anybody been to Scotland? We're looking at going to the Oban area with friends next year. I haven't even been to London, so we're getting psyched. Might have to learn to drink Scotch, but not that peat-y, bandaid-y tasting stuff!

Anne - we went to Scotland last year - you have to go everywhere - it's gorgeous. I loved Edinburgh and Glasgow and the highlands and Loch Ness and everything - I'm still raving about it a year later. One place we didn't go was the Oban area though - not enough time. My absolute favourite place was Plockton north of Kyle of Lochalsh - they filmed Hamish MacBeth the English TV series there.

We're off to dinner in a litle while. We haven't decided where to eat. My vote will be for the locally owned, local food serving restaurant. Did I mention the wine we like is local too?

It's raining cats, dogs and brussels sprouts in my section of the country.  So glad to get some water on our drought stressed land but does it have to come all in one storm?  At least the run off will restore the water level of the lakes.

Back home.  Dog food and cat food restocked.  New tree found and planted.  Now waiting for the storm headed our way to get here.  Not complaining ... a drought sure makes you appreciate the rain when it finally comes back.

No brussel sprouts here.  We stopped and ate at a Mexican place on the way home.  Now I'll have one of those Margahritas please bartender.

sort of an interruption, I guess b4 that - I can guess, there must be someone who is SO unhappy with our Joyful celebration of compassion, community and caring, and our generosity in sharing our brussel sprouts?  Bet I was close..ok, like pip, I'll be, ah, sort of, well, nearly approaching, good....(snark, snorkle, GRIN)

Notself - RAIN - congratulations - seriously, I can't imagine the drought the rest of the country is having, we're "dry" and all the crops are feeling it (wild blackberries like cardboard, seriously, can you imagine a berry with no "juice" truly) but seeing the cracked soil, the not growing corn, and wondering what's going to happen to so much of the world's food supply.  Has to be time to stop using whatever grain we have to feed automobiles, and get it to people?  Yes?

Still kinda chuckling that our friendship community seems to be so closely monitored, we must have a lot of good stuff to say...

AnneW - I went to Scotland a couple of years ago as a post chemo reward to me.  Don't know about the area you are visiting but one thing I learned is not to ask for a drink of Scotch. It's all Scotch whiskey there and the bartender seemed a bit surprised that I didn't know that. You have to ask for whiskey and then choose one. There was a great wall of options making that part kind of tricky. Fortunately my Scottish cousin helped me.

Rabbit .. What kind of tree did you plant?  I was thinking about your new tree when I went to town today.  The crepe myrtles are beautiful this time of year.

Anne .. The leaves are turning brown and falling off the trees here too.  Last fall was so spectacular, sure wish we could have another season like that one.

I'd eat some brussel sprouts if someone would come over here and fix them for me.

Lots of developments here....been inundated at work, just came up for air. Working all weekend too on a project that requires a lot oif time. Yikes.

Thanks to our Pastor and Bartender for the recipe- we were busy in your absence - glad you are back!

Glad to see Bren - and ((((Scoot)))) - don't you love that we no longer give a damn and just talk about what is on our minds. Ha, ha!

Brussels sprouts prices are tumbling, given that we are having to give them away so much here. There is an over-supply.

And Obama....he is so like his idol Lincoln. Both are, amongst other things, often brooding. His speech was perhaps less uplifting than Deval Patrick's and less cohesive than Clinton's. But, as he himself says, he is president. That deprives one of oratorical liberty or of a certain abandon. He really is like Lincoln. I also wonder if he has been depressed.

And his daughters are so tall! Malia must be at least 5'9" - and she is only about 14.

Great Friday....glad I'm home, the noise of an impending storm is going on.  I think it's left-overs for me.  Dh working late so I'm a party of one.  I think maybe the last of the Stroganoff  Oops,,,the impending is now pending so much you can't see anything out the window.....I think the lake is going to fall heir to most of this.

Much better day at work today. My new teacher co-worker and I bonded over mutual dislike of previous co-workers we've both had-just not at the same time. Nothing like bonding over a little negativity! Our little tiny, storage room classroom is starting to look more and more like a classroom. A tiny classroom, but a classroom nonetheless. I felt so much better at the end of the day today than I did the other day.

We planted a burning bush tree.  Had never heard of a tree version before but they stay smallish and have some color and that's what we wanted for the fenced in part of the back yard.  I also met a nice kitty at the landscaping place ... she just wandered up and asked for some pets.  So I obliged and got some purrs in return.   

I'm ready for it to cool down.  The heat and humidity has been the pits.

Bren ... I thought we were supposed to throw the brussel sprouts ... not eat them

Athena - I like your description of Obama.  I too feel like he was somewhat depressed on Thursday, but not from a place of self, but from a place of having concern for America.  When he said the difference between now and 4 or 8 years ago is "I am the President now" I felt it was his way to tell us he takes this responsibiity more serious than we can imagine.  What a piece of crap he got handed and we are coming out of it, because of him.  I am forever greatful he is our POTUS.

Had to finish last post quickly and take doggies out for a potty stop.  The earlier storm went around us but we have thunder now again.  Jake dog is scared of thunder so he will be velco dog until it quits.  So I had to go along to protect him from the thunder monsters.

I've noticed that Obama has gone gray the last few years.  Sometimes I wonder why anybody even wants that job ... the stress has to be tremendous.  His girls are really growing up!  I love their family pictures ... obviously lots of love in that family.

I have a brussel sprouts confession that will probably get me evicted from the 'club'.  I still like the frozen ones best ... and I usually just nuke them too.

I need to modify my recipe. I made it the way my boss gave it to me, but it was a bit strong. So here's my version

2 0z Silver Tequila

1 0z Cointreau

1/2 oz free squeezed  lime juice

Shake over ice.
