Favourite Christmas movie(s) - A Christmas Story, the original Grinch, Meet Me in St. Louis, White Christmas, Griswold's Christmas Vacation - I find Wonderful Life and Scrooge depressing beyond belief - as a matter of fact I find the original Scrooge (circa 195?) terrifying - I don't like ghost stories!
Baking more shortbread today - that'll make it 9 dozen this year - everything else is done and I am actually not cooking here - going to a friend's house tomorrow (friend actually more like a sister - we've been friends since 1949 - you do the math). Merry Christmas to all.

Merry HoHoHo!
Rosemary .. I love the movie Reindeer Games. It's a little gory, but I like action movies.
Sandy .. The cookies sound wonderful. Have a great time tomorrow.
We had cookies for breakfast. Perfect with a nice hot cup of coffee!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day with family and friends,
hugs,
Bren

Waiting patiently for the elves to come make that darn apple pie. Guess they must be busy elsewhere ... sigh ... guess I'll have to go do it myself
I tend to make a mess when I get to messing with flour
The elves (AKA my favorite neighbors) did deliver some cookies and fudge though ... snickerdoodle cookie for breakfast here too. It sounds mean but I don't bake much ... DH is Type 2 diabetic - not badly and well controlled - but still it is best not to have too much temptation around because he cannot resist.
Daughter is in the middle of a 7 hour drive to her Dad's house for Christmas ... in my car. Sigh again. I'm sure she will be fine but I am a worrywart. I am babysitting her cat who needs thyroid pills twice a day and who can't decide whether to love me for the canned cat food I give her or hate me because I keep stuffing pills down her throat. She's one of those talky cats so she hollers at me when she thinks I am not behaving properly. She also hates other cats with a passion so she has to stay in the computer room. Which is upsetting Jake the dog because he usually stays in here with me and has his feelings hurt because the door is shut. It's a zoo here sometimes.
We'll do our Christmas stuff at home tomorrow morning and then probably go make a visit to my brother. Merry Christmas from my house to all of yours!!

It's Christmas!!!
Our son wrote and wants to do a Skype this morning so my Mother can see the baby. That will be nice except I don't have Skype installed on my pc - will have to use SIL's Apple.
The SIL came very close to being kicked out last night. I have never been spoken to with such disrespect. I'll be having a word with our daughter this morning. He came downstairs after we were all going to bed and wanted to watch a movie in the room right outside our bedroom. I said no, as it is too hot to shut our door and it was late. Well, he's going on about me not letting him play with the lego and was down right rude. If he acts like that today, my mother won't be here for very long. Neither will he

Cranky Susie
-
Hugs for cranky Susie. Wabbit your house sounds like my house. I am having so many people over, I had to set the patio table for dinner tonight. Talk about overflow. Well, at least it is 80 degrees and very comfortable.
Saw this cute video and had to share. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBluUZ4NnZg&feature=share

I'm glad there's only the 5 of us. I re-read the email from our son - he wants to Skype this evening not this morning, so that's good, then Steve will get to see Bubby. He's about to go off to golf.
I've got to spend a week cooped up with SIL in a unit!!! It is high up and has a balcony

-
Hi Friends! Merry HoHoHo!
Susie .. so sorry your SIL is making you crazy. He's certainly old enough to have better manners.
Barbara .. sounds like you're going to have lots of fun tonight and tomorrow. Glad the temps are good for outdoor eating!
Rabbit ... Merry Christmas to you and your family. Everyone loves homemade apple pies, but they're so much work .. all that paring and slicing. Poor Tim got burned out on apple pie last year when we had so many apples on the trees.
We're being lazy today ... just watching a little football and having leftover stew for dinner. Of course lots of cookies are being eaten too.
We're going to my sister's tomorrow for Christmas dinner. And I'm not required to bring anything! Just some Christmas cookies. I got off easy this year.
Sending lots of hugs to all,
Bren

Mother has arrived - HELP!!!
-
Susie, I feel your pain.
Merry Christmas and Happy 5th night of Chanukah.

-
Susie-I'll bet I can make you feel a little better about your mother.
My MIL has the beginnings of dementia. Last Christmas Eve, she asked my daughter if my daughter's boyfriend liked oral sex. Yikes!
Mary
-
LOL ... sorry Mary I can't help it! I was about to ask Susie if she wanted to join me on a 'let's gripe about the holidays' thread and got a good laugh instead.
Now must go cook some more ... bah humbug
-
Oh Mary, I am rolling on the floor!
-
Oh Mary.
-
Very funny. She got here at 7:30am. Actually on seeing her she looks so small and old I decided to be nice. She's been ok so far and liked the presents I bought her.
Had to download Skype so our son can call later today - it will be great to see the baby live.
We had ham, cheese and honey mustard croissants for breakfast. I sent SIL up the shop to get orange juice. All of the salad dressings are prepared. Just have to cut the mango and avocados up and arrange on a bed of lettuce. Steve can cut the meat.
SIL has behaved so far but is starting to get bored - maybe he needs sugar. Mum's lying down as she didn't feel well so he puts a record on - he's stupid!!!
Steve still not back from golf - it's 10 past 10. I saved him some croissants. ooops he just drove in
Annie gave me a sonic screw driver set!!! I love it. I'm a big Dr Who fan. I had to move it out of the way as SIL started playing with it.
Happier Susie -
Ok - the shit hit the fan!!! BIG TIME. We're sitting down to Xmas lunch and the phone rang. We had just been speculating when my brother near Seattle would call. So I answered it, thinking it might be him. SIL says don't answer. WTF??? He picked up his plate and left the table in a huff because I answered the phone and it all went down hill from there. Our daughter started mouthing off. Steve had a go at her for the way she spoke to me and it all ended in tears. The phone call was from a friend with whom I had left a message. What the F is wrong with answering your own phone??????????? I was on the call for less than 3 minutes. You girls would have been proud of me - my voice truly boomed and I told him in no uncertain terms that he was the most disprepectful person I had ever had in my house etc etc insolent was one word used also the F word came out a lot. I told him I nearly threw him out the night before. I was truly hoping they would pack up and go home. I don't want to spend another week with them. Our daughter is a drama queen to say the least, so she's balling and I keep sipping my wine
And I wasn't even pissed at this stage. My mother has been very well behaved and she has experienced first hand his attention seeking crap. BTW we talked her into staying the night so she can see Bubby on Skype. The food was excellent pity about the company

Time for an afternoon nap.
Shouting Susie

((((Susie)))) Who needs enemies when you have family...Goodness gracious! I've had Christmases like that, so my thoughts are with you.
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL.
Mine is going wonderfully so far. On a wierd note, I signed up for an outdoor boot camp class on the harbor in Georgetown (my neighborhood) tomorrow, Xmas Day at 8am. Coming up with excuses NOT to go. Seeing family that I like tomorrow for a wonderful (not cooked by us) meal. I just had a great evening tonight with some friends (
). Last night I spent at a hotel with mother and one sister on a "girl's night out". We had a room wth a view of the White House and the Capitol and had a great time (we were at the hotel the Obamas stayed at just before the inauguration). We walked around the Mall, saw a children's Xmas show, the national tree, etc.... Had a superb dinner and a lazy breakfast...Maybe next year I will try some cooking.
Bren, glad to see you in better spirits.
Mary!!!! Oh, the perils of dementia - too LOL.
-
MERRY CHRISTMAS to this fabulous group of fun Ladies.--------kad2kar

Athena - that sounds excellent cool Xmas Eve. I dream of a Christmas where I am waited on and don't have to put up with anyone but myself and don;t have to cook. I must say all had been calm and I only had to prepare one salad, so there was literally no stress going on for me.
I forgot to mention before all the shit happened - SIL went for a bike ride, then got on the phone to his Mother - his sister is in hospital - both his mother and sister are schizophrenic - I do like his Mum however, but have only met his sister once or twice. So when we came to sit down for lunch, he hadn't showered or changed and was going to sit down in what he'd been wearing. I respectfully asked him to change (fair enough?) as Annie had ironed him nice clothes to wear. We waited until he had finished to start lunch, then the phone rang......
Sounds like a scary movie. Anyway, I'm proud I stood up for myself. I've been keeping my mouth shut ever since they arrived. BC gives us balls!!!!!
Didn't have a nap my heart is racing a bit - onc said it was the aromatose inhibitors. Doesn't happen often but is a problem when I try to sleep.
Hope you all have a better day than I have. Strangely I'm not upset I just feel justified in what I said and did.
-
BTW - the idiot did apologise but I haven't forgiven him

-
Susie ... I think my Christmas wish for you is going to be that your idiot SIL will get mad enough to leave and give you some peace. And maybe attend charm school and learn some manners before he comes back. Good for you for speaking up.
Hubby went to church this morning so I have time to drink coffee and wake up some before we do the presents thing. I'm weird I guess ... but I always put off opening them as long as I can because the packages look so pretty.
Merry Christmas everybody!
-
Suzie - maybe with a schizophrenic mother and sister, SIL has missed some teaching on how to behave and needs some gentle guidance. He might not be so much deliberately badly behaved as unaware of what he ought and ought not to do. Some experiences that have been in my life cause me to make that suggestion. I hope he learns quickly!
-
Oh Susie
Family. We will have 20 of them here in a few hours. My DH said he wants to be medicated. He never says anything like that! We will have a wonderful exhausting time.
May your SIL learn manners.
I hope everyone has a great day.
-
Oral sex, huh? Isn't that *just* talking about it? LOLJust got back from Toronto, having spent Christmas Eve and this morning with DH' s late brother's family. He was a "presence" and there were some tears, but also much laughter. I played piano, sister-in-law on violin and everyone else singing and we went through EVERY Christmas carol and song that were ever written (and that we knew)! Oh, except that one about grandma being run over by a train or something.......Now I'm resting before cooking a duck for our quiet Christmas dinner. Oh yes, got lots of really neat prezzies, so it's been quite a day!Tomorrow I'll wish you all Happy Boxing Day (an old British tradition to which we loyalists still cling).xoxo, Linda
-
Lassie - his mother became involved with Jehovas Witnesses - he did not have a normal upbringing that's for sure. I can't get how our daughter married him!!
One thing was good - we did Skype with Mark and saw Alexander eating his breakfast. We had to telephone him as my camera didn't seem to pick up our voices. Mum was thrilled to see him in person. She stayed the night - nice of us:) Funny, she was the best behaved of all of us.
Didn't sleep well - heart still a bit racy and I feel nauseous - thanks Aromasin. I'll be ok when I eat.
WhiteRabbit - thanks. I did ask my daughter to speak to him yesterday morning - obviously it had no impact.
Linda - it's Boxing Day here - we do continue the English tradition too. Big sales on in all of the shops. So, shops are open but it is officially a public holiday. We have another public holiday tomorrow because Xmas Day was on a weekend.
Got to get ready to go away tomorrow - I don't want to go, but we've already paid an exhorbitant amount for the unit and maybe SIL will drown or something
The beaches have been closed due to rough seas but he likes surfing, so I reckon he'll go in anyway. -
Too tired to "talk" but had 2 fabulous days. Wanted to share some pics.

-
We wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Channukah, and special times as we near the end of the year.
Warmest wishes,
Your Mods
-
And warmest wishes to you, our Mods, for seeing us through another year! Now, go home and enjoy a lovely holiday with your families!
-
And Happy Holidays to the mods and everyone else. the kids are leaving. We had a wonserful time. The mpms all remembered the fake Cabbage Patch Kids I made for the baby girls from their childhoods. The other gifts were a hit. I got lots of chocolate-my kids know me well.Lots of other good gifts and time with family.
The only bad thing was that my son started to get upset about seating arrangements. He thought he would have to sit with the kids which was not the csae and my other son got mad and locked himself in the bedroom when dinner was starting. I went up told him we were starting to eat left it at that\ and he was back 5 minutes later. At least the only drama was him leaving.

I had a wonderful Christmas day - a nice dinner with my mother, one sister, one brother in-law and two nieces. Absolutely amazing six-course meal. I am installing one of my presents at the moment (a new printer).
These were nice festivities. I love it when plans go well and everyone is happy (except for my oldest sister, whom I did not see - and did not miss seeing either). The only hitch was that I was NOT able to drag my lazy self out of bed for the 8 am boot camp outdoor class. Maybe next Sunday!
Blue and Linda, glad you had a nice time too.
Thanks mods - Merry Xmas/Happy holidays to you too!
My keyboard doesn't like BCO.
It works well for other programs. Oh well.... -
Thank you Mods.
I ate so much I think I will explode. My future in-laws are GEMS!
