Kindergarten, I DID!  You have a problem with that, don't visit this thread.  It shouldn't interest you.  After all, we're all a bunch of leftie commie athiest pinkos.  And please....if God blesses me, and he has, it has absolutely nothing to do with you.  Ever watch Star Trek?  Now beat it!  I have people like you for breakfast on my worst PD day.

Hey, BlueDahlia, I just had to show my friends what you said,"I have people like you for breakfast on my worst day, etc." They told me to tell you that I did an internship in college at Stateville prison in Joliet, Illinois and I heard a lot worse from the women that I worked with and I survived, they were actually much kinder than this board is. So glad that you're going to other threads, kindergarten.  You don't seem happy here at all.  And congrats on your 7-year survivorship!

EDITED:  BTW .. Kathy we all decided that on this thread no one gets deleted.  It was a unanimous decision by all the regular posters that no one would resort to using the 'report this post' function.

    That would explain a lot!

I've never had rapini.  What is it?

Hello enjoyful!!! So good to see you again.

Rapini is a vegetable similar to broccoli.  It is a little bitter.  There are many Italian recipes that call for rapini.  One of the best ways to eat is it to boil rapini until just tender.  Add it to pasta and cooked sausage and mix all together.  Add some parmesan cheese, and presto!  Yum, yum.

Thank you for the rapini info.  The recipe sounds fantastic..I'll have to go on a rapini hunt now!

I've tried rapini several times but I do find it rather bitter and I only prepare it because it's GOOD for me!  Have always served it with garlic and oil but I think I'll try Covertanjou's idea with pasta, sausage and parmesan (or asiago).  With luck the cheese and sausage will overcome the rapini!

edited to add: baby brussels sprouts on the menu tonight!  Also, when buying rapini, look for the thinnest stalks no tiny yellow flowers -- younger = less bitter)

    Broccoli family....

    Here's a good recipe....

It is the stems that are most bitter.  If you trim well, the rapini will be less bitter.  Also, adding some heat like some hot pepper flakes cuts the bitterness.  Blue's recipe is also great.  I prepare rapini like that often.
    Edited for clarity.

Oh!  I think I've had that before.  It has a tendency to lodge itself between your teeth, does it not?

    Hey -

Where's Medigal?  I was at an international foods grocery store today and thought of her when I saw smoked turkey necks.  I thought - nobody but Medigal would eat those!  :-)

I knew there was a reason I didn't eat green and leafy.  Other than the taste, that is.  ;-)

I love rapini, but wish I could convince my daughter of its deliciousness. For yet another variation, throw some anchovies in with the olive oil, garlic and crushed red pepper. If you like anchovies, that is.

Or: toss sautéed rapini, toasted walnuts and really good ricotta together with pasta.

I think that the bitterness is less of an issue if you blanch it for a minute before sautéeing it.

I know, right? I saw picked pigs feet at my grocery yesterday and I thought of her too! (but I did not buy them, just can'd do it).

Smoked turkey necks and Pickled Pigs Feet!!  What a way to be remembered!!  Too bad I didn't tell you about the Kam's dogfood I used to "share" with my doggie cause then you could remember me every time you see dogfood!

I was out doing taxes for myself and family and just got everything all finished and ready for mailing this week!  I am so glad it's done.  Now if you don't hear from me a while it could be because the "tax" auditors decided "they" want some of my delightful personality and I will be with them.  Hopefully not!  That Arimidex has given me brain fog and I can't believe I actually got all those Federal and State taxes done!   I am sooooo brilliant I sometimes make "me" sick!

BTW, Enjoyful, I would eat those turkey necks by the bucket full if I decided to get some.  I love anything with "bones".  Any reallllll skinny people joined us lately?? Yummy!!  You know there are nations where people eat a lot of stuff we hoity toity (well "you" hoity toity" guys) wouldn't eat. I could survive probably anyplace as long as they don't eat rats!

Shirley:  Why aren't you fizzing over Egypt and the revolution?  Did I miss your post and opinions of this new scary problem which could impact us all with the price of gas etc.?

I see we have a new religious member called Kathy.  I haven't been blessed by her yet so I hope she makes sure she dosses herself with some Holy Water before throwing out all those "blessings".   Ok!  I am just kidding with her to see if she is thick skinned enough to cope with the escapees from the "Snake Pit".Wink   Have a nice day ladies and don't forget to get those taxes done.  Your gov needs all that money!

    Medigal !!!!!!!!  Welcome back!!!!!

You set this up, so I can't resist . . . in the downriver suburbs of Detroit, back in the day and maybe among oldtimers still, they used to eat muskrats.  With saurkraut.  And for short, they'd calll the dish "rats 'n' kraut."

You know I'm not squeamish, but I'm just not sure I could handle that.

Medigal -- So great to see you again!  Speaking of turkey necks -- back in the day when I still liked turkey, my favourite parts were the neck and that little bit at the other end, the name of which largely depended on whether you were protestant or catholic LOL!

Lewing, I've been lurking here for a long time but your comment finally drew me in. We still have muskrat dinners here Downriver.

But no, I've never eaten it. DH tells me it's very greasy though.
